Passage 1
(24-25九年级上·山东威海·期末)I was sitting in a Beijing cafe drinking a coffee with my friend. We were at a table looking out a window into a hutong. Many people were walking past us, but one Chinese couple stopped and stared. I smiled and waved back. Then, to my surprise, they took a photo of us! The lady even came up to the window and posed in front of us for another photo. It was very funny and we were all laughing.
A few weeks later, I was visiting the beautiful coastal city of Xiapu with two friends. People stared at us and wanted to say hello everywhere we went. It was like we were famous people!
So why were we getting so much attention? I think it’s because even though there are many foreigners, like me, living in China today, they are still kind of “rare (罕见的)”. This is especially true in smaller cities, where there are fewer foreigners. This is probably why we were so popular in Xiapu, but didn’t get as much attention in Beijing.
But China is not the only place this happens. I have traveled to India, Brazil, Peru and even the United States and been treated differently, too.
Brazilians and US people always want to talk with you, but Indians are by far the most curious (有好奇心的). When I visited, children and adults were always staring and taking pictures. The best way to deal with it is just to smile, laugh and enjoy it!
1.What did the writer do when the couple first stared at him in Beijing?

2.What happened when the writer visited Xiapu?
A.He became famous.
B.He said sorry to everyone.
C.He caught the attention of many people.
3.Why did the writer think they were more popular in Xiapu than Beijing?

A.talking with him B.staring at him C.laughing at him

Passage 1
(24-25九年级上·河南郑州·期末)Last summer at a bookstore, my son Henry was attracted by the cover of the first novel from Peter Brown’s middle-grade trilogies (三部曲). He then finished it in just two days. “Dad, why did The Wild Robot have to be so sad?” He asked me with tears in his eyes. What book was so attractive and made a boy so sad? I wanted to read it.
The story happened on a distant island, where a robot named Roz learns to survive (存活) and communicate with the island’s creatures (生物), and becomes a part of the community. For my son, it was the first book he found by himself, the first to influence him with the mix of sad and happy things.
When I finished the book, I knew why Henry loved it. In our discussion, he said how Brown’s pictures and words made the story seem real. When talking about its final scenes, where Roz leaves to repair her injured body, Henry cried again. His reading in the past was mostly about happy endings, but this book let him know about the beauty of complex (复杂的) feelings. I tried to tell him how sadness could improve the meaning of happiness, but couldn’t make him fully believe.
After our discussion, Henry bought The Wild Robot Escapes and fell in love with it. He read the first two books over and over again. So you can imagine how excited he was when we finally got a copy of The Wild Robot Protects.
There is something special about Roz: her physical slowness and confusion (迷惑) about life showed through her eyes and downturned mouth. Roz’s story shows the difficulties of surviving in a strange place, much like a child’s growth journey.
Readers love Roz. They learn from her. Even better, they grow when they are reading about her. Roz gave Henry the power to overcome the sad parts of the first book, getting him ready to appreciate that. It made him understand that sometimes, sadness is not a bad thing to feel. It helped readers get more.

(24-25九年级上·浙江金华·期末)I began learning to play the violin when I was nine, and the next year I began studying under Natalie Ghent, who was my teacher until I left high school.
Once, Mrs Ghent held a concert for her students. I played near the end of it. After I played a while, I forgot the music. No matter what I tried, I couldn’t think of it. So I had to stop and looked at the pianist’s music. When the whole concert was over, I cried hiding in my overcoat.
Mrs Ghent came to comfort me. Then she told us about a coming concert, and she hoped I would go there with her. I remember that the concert was on my birthday in March. It was great, as Mischa Elman was going to perform at Carnegie Hall. My teacher decided to buy the best ticket as my birthday present.
Carnegie Hall is quite beautiful with all the lights on. I had never been in such a concert hall before, and was amazed by the size as well. I don’t remember what Elman played. I only remember that his playing was beautiful. I have seen films of him in recent years, and have been moved by his performance, but I don’t remember the music he played that night. What I remember most is Mrs Ghent whispering (耳语) to me from time to time that he had forgotten something or played a wrong note, or made some other kind of mistakes.
When I teach my students to play the violin now, I often tell those who are afraid of making mistakes that if they aren’t going to make a mistake, they will never play beautiful music.

A.Because the concert was such a big success.
B.Because she felt sad and sorry about her performance.
C.Because she found she didn’t have a gift for music.

2.What did Mrs Ghent take the writer to that coming concert for?
A.To celebrate her birthday with classmates.
B.To show how she cared about her.
C.To give her another chance to perform there.
D.To teach her an important lesson in similar situations.
3.What did the writer most probably learn at Carnegie Hall that day?
A.There are no really great performers. B.Even the best players make mistakes.
C.Mischa Elman is not a good performer. D.That performance surprises everyone.
4.Which word can we best describe Mrs Ghent?
A.Serious. B.Strict. C.Careless. D.Kind-hearted.

The traveler carried only a backpack. “I also have a lot of passion with me,” she said. On August 29, 2024, she finally set foot on China’s soil.

After that she’ll visit Suzhou, the city described as the “Venice of the East” by Marco Polo. She plans to end her trip in Beijing to mark the 750th anniversary of Marco Polo’s arrival to China.

Passage 2(24-25九年级上·重庆·期末)
One day, when I was standing in the cool shade (阴凉处) of a big tree and my master was carefully cleaning my feet, a boy came by with a big stick. He stopped and began to talk to my master. “That’s a fine horse,”said the boy. “But can he run fast?”
“Of course, he can,” said my master. “He is young, strong, and full of energy. But I don’t push him hard without a reason.”
The boy laughed. “What’s the point of a strong horse if you don’t make him run fast? You’re wasting him!”
My master looked up with a serious expression. “It is never a waste to treat an animal well.” he said. A horse like this will serve you loyally (忠诚地) if you treat him kindly. Overwork or bad treatment will break his spirit and destroy him. A good horse needs trust and care to stay strong.”

2.What happened when the writer visited Xiapu?
A.He became famous.
B.He said sorry to everyone.
C.He caught the attention of many people.
3.Why did the writer think they were more popular in Xiapu than Beijing?

B.Because people in Xiapu are more friendly.
C.Because many foreigners work in coastal cities like Xiapu.
4.When the writer traveled to the US, people there enjoyed ______.
A.talking with him B.staring at him C.laughing at him
5.What’s the best title of this passage?
A.Traveling in China B.A Foreigner’s Experience in China C.A Foreign Traveler’s Feelings

(24-25九年级上·安徽芜湖·期末)“Hey,” said the boy, whose name I couldn’t remember, sitting next to me. “Don’t worry. Take your time.” And so I did, but I still couldn’t correctly pronounce my Chinese name that was given by the teacher. I was so nervous on my first day of learning Chinese!
I took Chinese classes during my summer vacation. Every morning, I walked for 25 minutes to the class while having a Chinese pancake on the way. Both men were smiling. “That’s you and me, outside the Embassy (大使馆),” said Carl. “You can show it to your sons. You’re a famous man, Harald!”
Harald laughed and said, “I’m just a police officer. It’s my job to take care of you.”
“But your children think that you’re a famous man. Here, take it, and show it to them.”
“OK. Thanks.” Harald smiled, and put the newspaper in his coat pocket.
“I’ll have a cup of coffee, too.” He called the air hostess, but she did not come. Harald looked surprised.
“What’s the matter?” Carl asked.
“The air hostess…” Harald said.
Carl looked up and saw the young air hostess. She was sitting at the front of the plane with two young men. They looked nervous. Suddenly, one of the young men picked up a bag and walked into the pilot’s cabin (驾驶舱)! The other man and their hostess followed him.
For one or two minutes nothing happened. It became very quiet on the plane.

Passage 1
(24-25九年级上·广东广州·期末)In the bright moonlight, Jack was walking home. Suddenly, he found a hawk (鹰) lying beside a box. Very curiously, he began to check it.
The hawk seemed to be in pain. One of its wings looked broken, touching the ground. Its eyes looked scared. So Jack took off his T-shirt and packed it carefully round the hawk. Then he carried it home.
“I can’t take him into the house,” he thought. “My mum doesn’t like animals in the house!”
Thinking for a while, Jack decided to hide the hawk in the garden shed. He secretly put the hawk down on the floor with his T-shirt. Looking at the hawk, he said, “It’s your home now. Call you Falco, OK?”
In the early morning, Jack took some bread to feed Falco and went back to his room secretly. After breakfast, Jack went to the garden shed, holding a small bowl of water.
In the shed, he found Falco sitting quietly in a corner and the bread was still on the floor. Falco’s eyes were open, but not bright now. Jack put the water in front of Falco. At first, Falco ignored it, then he began to drink. Jack sat quietly, looking at him, imagining Falco flying in the endless blue sky. But now he was trapped on the earth. “How can I help you return to the sky, Falco?”
When Jack left the shed, his brother Jim was waiting for him outside. Jack had to tell his brother the truth. Then the brothers discussed how to feed Falco excitedly. They decided to get help from their friend Holly because she knew a lot about animals and nature. Later, the brothers went to Holly. Holly advised them to feed some meat to Falco.
Over the next few days, Falco got much better. He always ate the food Jack and Jim brought and enjoyed the worms Jack dug up in the park. His feathers looked good, but he couldn’t fly.
One morning, Holly checked Falco and said, “Falco is well enough to fly again!” Then they happily opened the door. Falco beat his wings and tried to fly in small circles, then in large ones. Suddenly, he made a loud cry and flew away. Jack felt a bit sad, but he knew they were right.

The boy shook his shoulders and walked away, looking a bit confused (迷惑). But I felt proud and happy. My master knew how to manage me. He taught me to carry myself with confidence and to follow orders without fear. I loved to run freely in the fields, feeling the wind rush past my ears and the grass under my hooves (蹄). But I also knew I could trust my master not to hurt me.
Later that day, another horse told me about his old owner, who often hit him and made him pull heavy things up high hills. “My legs are weaker now because of it,” he said sadly. “I wish I had a master like yours. He seems to really care for you.”
Hearing his story made me feel even more thankful for the kindness I had experienced. I realized then that not all horses were as lucky as I was, and I promised myself to work my best for my kind master.
