Passage 1
(24-25学年高二上·河南商丘·期末)
Using an app to learn a language is convenient because you can follow lessons and check your progress anywhere, even if there’s just a few minutes. Below is a list of my favorite ways to learn languages from my phone.
Google Translate
Most of apps teach you a language through exercises and progressive steps, while Google’s simply tells you how to write and speak anything you run through it. Still, I think it’s a great choice for beginners. I like to learn languages with Google Translate for two main reasons: its long list of supported languages, and the several language learning methods.
Memrise
Memrise isn’t as easy to use for quick translations as Google Translate, but it is easy to work with, supports offline courses, and lets you learn a number of languages. You can start off simple or skip all the way through to more advanced lessons. I find Memrise to be unique in how it teaches new words and phrases. They combine words into sentences alongside words that sound similar in your language, which makes it easier to remember.
Busuu
Busuu’s app is user-friendly. You get to pick where you’d like to begin in the course. The words and phrases you’ll learn are especially helpful for beginners who might find themselves around people speaking a foreign language and need to learn words in real situations quickly. However, Busuu doesn’t support as many languages as some of these other apps, and you do need a user account to get in.
Rosetta Stone
Rosetta Stone is designed specifically for helping travelers learn basic words and phrases. There’s also a phrasebook with basic words and words related to restaurants, hotels, and getting around—all very useful for someone traveling. If you want, you can buy additional phrasebooks covering topics like shopping, colors, emergencies, and so on.
1. Which apps are suitable for beginners according to the author?
A. Memrise and Busuu. B. Rosetta Stone and Memrise.
C. Busuu and Google Translate. D. Google Translate and Rosetta Stone.
2. What is special about Memrise?
A. It is designed for travelers.
B. It has real-time translation.
C. It supports a large number of languages.
D. It has unusual methods of teaching vocabulary.
3. In which part of a magazine may this text appear?
A. Technology. B. History. C. Travelling. D. Business.
【答案】1. C 2. D 3. A
【解析】
【导语】本文是一篇说明文。文章主要介绍了几种在手机上学习语言的应用程序。

【2题详解】
细节理解题。根据“Memrise (忆术家)”部分的“I find Memrise to be unique in how it teaches new words and phrases. They combine words into sentences alongside words that sound similar in your language, which makes it easier to remember(我发现忆术家在教授新词和短语方面是独一无二的。它们将单词与在你的语言中听起来相似的单词组合成句子,这样更容易记住)”可知,它在教词汇方面有独特的方法,故选D项。
【3题详解】
推理判断题。根据第一段“Using an app to learn a language is convenient because you can follow lessons and check your progress anywhere, even if there’s just a few minutes. Below is a list of my favorite ways to learn languages from my phone(使用应用程序学习语言很方便,因为你可以在任何地方学习课程并检查你的进度,即使只有几分钟的时间。下面是我最喜欢的从手机学习语言的方法列表)”以及下文“Google Translate(谷歌翻译)”、“Busuu(博树)”、“Memrise(忆术家)”以及“Rosetta Stone(如师通)”可知本文介绍几种在手机上学习语言的应用程序,可推理出本文最后可能出现在杂志的技术专栏,故选A项。

Behind the Scenes of the Mosquito Fire
In a 10-episode series, a sixth-grade class at the Georgetown School of Innovation in Georgetown, Calif., shares stories from the damaging Mosquito Fire in 202. This group of eight students asks two firefighters from the Georgetown Fire Department what it’s like to fight fires and protect loved ones in their hometown.

Passage 2
(24-25学年高二上·河南南阳·期末)
Best-selling books handpicked by educationists and trusted by critics have returned.
The Wonderful Wisdom of Ants
Philip Bunting
Think you know ants? Think again. Good humor and surpassing facts are the name of the game here. Though seemingly simple, the more of this book you read, the more you come to realize how little you may actually know about these tiny workers. This book is full of true fun that’ll generate a newfound respect for our hardworking neighbors. Give it to kids who know next to nothing about ants-it may just convert them.
— Betsy Bird, collection development manager, Evanston Public Library
My Thoughts Have Wings
Maggie Smith, illustrated by Leanne Hatch
It can be easy to forget that little kids have big thoughts, strong emotions and unbound imaginations spinning through their brains. And that constant activity doesn't always stop when it's time for bed. Poet Maggie Smith understands this and weaves a beautiful .comforting tale designed to ease and settle busy, anxious minds. She encourages children to build a “cozy nest” for their happy thoughts, while letting their worries fly away. A lovely conversation starter for kids and caregivers.
— Tayla Burney, director, Network Programming and Production

Passage 1
(24-25学年高二上·河南洛阳·期末)
There’s nothing more magical than spending a summer evening watching a bit of theatre. There are plenty of outdoor theatres to choose from, and we’ve put together a list of the best ones.
Regent’s Park Open Air Theatre, London
No matter the weather, when Regent’s Park starts its theatre season, summer has truly begun. Surrounded by thick whistling trees and singing birds, you may as well be a thousand miles from the surrounding city.
This year sees a typically varied programme with Twelfth Night opening, Fiddler on the Roof closing and plenty in between.
Thorington Theatre, Suffolk
A new and beautiful addition to the outdoor theatre world, opening in 201, Thorington is hidden in the Suffolk woodlands. This year’s programme includes family favourites such as Teddy Bear’s Picnic and The Little Mermaid, Shakespeare’s The Tempest as well as A Midsummer Night’s Dream, and a little Sondheim with Sunday in the Park with George. You can also now order a picnic from local supper club Husk to meet you an hour before your show.
Minack Theatre, Cornwall
Built into a cliff (悬崖) face in Porthcurno, you hardly need an excuse to visit this theatre.
This year sees touring productions of Little Shop of Horrors, The Massive Tragedy of Madame Bovary and the usual knowledge of Shakespeare amongst other things. If you want a show particularly fitting for this unique surrounding, check out The Pirates of Penzance playing in September.
Roman Theatre Open Air Festival St Alban’s
Situated in the country’s oldest theatre still actually producing theatre — an old Roman theatre, hence the name — this year the festival offers a mix of straight classics, modern retellings and brand-new scripts (剧本). I’m a person interested in any production of Sondheim’s Into the Woods, and as the name suggests, there’s no better place to see it than an outdoor theatre.
1. What do the four theaters have in common?
A. They are newly built. B. They are built outdoors.
C. They show Shakespeare’s plays. D. They intend to open in summer.
2. Which theater is the most suitable for the Browns and their children?
A. Regent’s Park Open Air Theatre, London. B. Thorington Theatre, Suffolk.

A. Technology. B. History. C. Travelling. D. Business.

It is a one more long-standing tradition. Chrysanthemums have long been associated with the idea of longevity (长寿) and health in Chinese culture. The bright yellow and white colours of the flower are believed to bring positive energy to people.

Every year, national parks are crowded with visitors. Here are the top four named by The National Park Service.
Glacier National Park
In 1910, Glacier was established as the country’s 10th national park. Take advantage of the park’s expansive hiking trails(路线), and be sure to hit traveler favorites like the Trail of the Cedars and Iceberg Lake Trail. What’s more, Glacier National Park hosts plenty of free activities like guided hikes and appealing events ideal for visitors of all ages.
Grand Canyon National Park
First protected in 1893 as a forest reserve, the Grand Canyon became an official US national park in 1919. The park offers endless hiking opportunities with trails of various lengths, as well as the chance to raft(漂流)the Colorado River. And if you’re looking for a different point, consider a helicopter tour to learn more about the park and see it in all its glory from above.
Yellowstone National Park
The world famous site became the first national park in the U. S. on March 1,1872, when President Grant signed the Yellowstone National Park Protection Act into law. Here, hikers can get lost in the beauty of the lakes, mountains, valleys and, of course, its unmatched hot springs. To avoid the crowds that often trouble Yellowstone, plan to visit in April, May, September or October.
Yosemite National Park
First protected in 1864, Yosemite National Park stands out for its impressive waterfalls. The best time to see waterfalls is during spring, when most of the snowmelt occurs. Here are four student podcasts (播客) that offer a glimpse into the minds of students and what they say about news concerning climate in their communities — and what they hope to do about it.

Though seemingly simple, the more of this book you read, the more you come to realize how little you may actually know about these tiny workers. This book is full of true fun that’ll generate a newfound respect for our hardworking neighbors. Give it to kids who know next to nothing about ants-it may just convert them.
