She takes care of me and my young sister. Every day when she gets home from work, she makes dinner for us. One day, I decided to help my mom. She’s always taking care of us, so I thought, “It’s about time I do something for her too. I’m nine years old.” I decided to cook dinner for her. I don’t know a lot about cooking. But it doesn’t look that difficult. Noodles are easy to cook. All you do is to boil water, add the noodles and continue boiling. This was how I saw my mom doing it. I was really excited. “Today, when Mom comes home, dinner will be cooked. We will sit down and eat some delicious noodles,” I said to myself. After school, I ran home quickly and started cooking. I boiled the water on the stove (炉子) and then added the noodles. I was very careful. I cooked the noodles for a long time. It can’t hurt, right? Just before Mom got home, I turned off the stove. The noodles were not like the kind my mom usually makes. They were very mushy. They were more like a soup. Mom was surprised when she came home. She put the noodles in bowls and sat with me and ate her noodles. “Mmm! These are the best noodles in the world, my son,” she said. I knew the noodles were terrible. But that’s not important. Mom knew that I was trying to help out. 26. Who usually cooks in the boy’s family? A. The boy. B. The boy’s sister. C. The boy’s mom. 27. What did the boy think of cooking noodles at first? A. Easy. B. Exciting. C. Interesting. 28. Which is the correct meaning for the underlined word “mushy”? A. 糊状的 B. 苦涩的 C. 酥脆的 29. Why did the boy’s mom think the noodles were the best in the world? A. Because the noodles tasted different from hers. B. Because she knew her son was trying to help out. C. Because the family enjoyed the noodles together. 30. What is the best title for the passage? A. Noodles for Mom B. How to Make Noodles C. Mom Is the Best in the World C What would life be like if AI (artificial intelligence) solved all your problems? You wouldn’t have to work anymore. You could get anything you wanted by just moving a finger. You could feel pleasure whenever you wanted. Death would become almost a choice—you could turn into a digital form (数字化的形式) and keep going for a million years. All that sounds terrible to me. It’s true that humans don’t like problems. But if we had no problems to solve, what would be the point of living? How long would we be happy sitting on top of our big mountains of candy? For me, a long weekend would be enough. A million years of perfect happiness would feel like a terrible dream. Professor Nick Bostrom from a famous university believes that even if AI could do everything perfectly, people might still “work” at “jobs” in “offices”. “But these jobs would really be more like hobbies.” That wouldn’t be a problem, you might say, as people could stay busy doing other things. They could go shopping, do some gardening or take care of their children. But one reason people get satisfied with such activities is that they pride themselves on being good at them. They know how to find the right beds, grow roses or dry a child’s tears. However, AI will probably do these all better than you. In a world like that, you might feel like you’re doing more harm than good to your child if you try parenting on your own. But life in that “ perfect ” world might still be bearable (可忍受的), says Bostrom. For example, we could ask our computers to give us interesting tasks. In Greg Egan’s sci-fi novel Permutation City, a man forces himself to develop new hobbies every now and then to keep from being bored. He finds joy in making table legs and ends up making 162,329 of them. Bostrom suggests we not rush to make a decision. We might end up liking the future. “The question here is not how interesting a future is to look at, but how good it is to live in,” he says. 31. How does the writer feel about a life where AI could solve all problems? A. Life would be terrible. B. People would find real joy. C. There would be no more jobs. 32. What does Bostrom say about “future jobs” if AI could do everything? A. People might fight against AI for jobs. B. People might give up creating new tasks. C. People might still do some work as hobbies. 33. When might people feel helpless in a world with smart AI? A. When they find AI cannot finish their tasks. B. When they compare their abilities with AI’s. C. When they work together with AI in offices. 34. Why does the passage mention a man making 162,329 table legs? A. To suggest that AI would force humans into boring work. B. To give an example of how AI helps humans work faster. C. To show humans can still have fun in a problem-free world. 35 What question does the writer want us to think about most? A. Can life remain meaningful if AI solves all problems? B. Is it a good idea to stay alive for millions of years? C. Do we need to stop making AI smarter now? 第二节(共5小题,每小题2分,满分10分) 根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有一项为多余选项。 Typhoons (台风) are powerful storms with strong winds and heavy rain. They often hit Hainan in summer and autumn, and bring dangers like floods and broken trees. ____36____ Before a typhoon arrives, prepare carefully. After the typhoon passes, stay cautious (警惕的). ____39____ Check around carefully for dangers such as broken glass. When helping clean up, wear gloves and ask adults for help to stay safe. Typhoons can be dangerous but being well prepared saves lives! ____40____ Remember, making the right decision can help to keep you safe. A. When the typhoon comes, act wisely. B. But it is lively! Both Chinese and foreigners can understand and enjoy it. It is an example of Chinglish. So, what is Chinglish? It is a mix of Chinese and English. Now, it is quite popular outside China. It all started when a foreign girl put a sad photo online. It seemed that her boyfriend had made her cry. Some nice Chinese people created some funny Chinglish, such as “You swan, he frog” to cheer her up. The expression (表达) comes from a famous old Chinese story. It’s about a beautiful swan and an ugly toad (癞蛤蟆). Many foreigners found it cool. They shared it a lot online and made funny pictures with it. Some of them got interested in the Chinese stories behind Chinglish. “It’s great that more Chinese culture is being shared with the rest of the world,” said Cody, a young man from New Zealand. “It helps a lot to understand Chinese culture better.” More and more people are finding the fun in Chinglish. This is great! But for young English learners like us, it’s still important to use proper English, especially in tests and at formal events (正式场合). Standard English helps people understand each other more clearly. Different situations call for different ways. Chinglish serves as a fun bridge connecting two cultures, but we must know when to cross the bridge and when to stay in the “main road” of standard English. After all, being able to use Chinglish properly and also communicate well in standard English makes you a true language user! Task Ⅰ: 41. Finish the chart according to the article. A. Easy. 35. What question does the writer want us to think about most? A. Can life remain meaningful if AI solves all problems? B. Is it a good idea to stay alive for millions of years? C. Do we need to stop making AI smarter now? 【答案】31. A 32. C 33. B 34. C 35. Since your English name is Lily, I suggest using “李乐” (Lǐ Lè) as your Chinese name. “李” is a common last name, and “乐” means “happy” or “joyful.” The pronunciation is simple and cheerful, just like your personality.
