At the age of seventy-two, she had been well prepared for her death, but I was not. Of both French and Indian background, she had a gentle, soft touch. All her life, Mom was there for me; although now a grown woman, I still needed my senior parent for advice and comfort. We were the best of friends, and over the years, we shared, laughed and cried together. I often found myself wearing her red sweater, which had been Mom’s favourite, and it was faded and worn from years of use. To cope with my grief, I would imagine my mom wearing the red sweater and reaching out to comfort me. Her warm hands, worn and shrivelled (干枯) from age and work, had cared for a large family, and brought life to plants and flowers. Mom lost both her cultures when she married my father, a white man, and moved from her island to live on his. When she arrived in isolated and rural Cardigan at the age of eighteen, she began to learn English. Sadly, her knowledge of both French and her native Chinook began to fade away. One of my favourite memories are the native powwws (帕瓦仪式) we attended on Panmure Island. First Nations people from all over North America travelled there to participate in the powwows. It was an opportunity for Mom to mingle with the First Nations people, wear her native shirt, dance in the sacred circle and socialize. She loved going to those powwows and I remember her proudly telling an elder once, “I’m Indian, too.” Although she had moved into the white man’s world when she married, she never lost her Chinook heritage of strong native spirituality, deep respect for the land, and love for the outdoors-all of which she passed on to me and my eight brothers and sisters. Now, her image travels with me when I feel grief and pain. She always wears the red sweater and for an instant, our hands join. Death has not separated us. 19. Why did I keep Mom’s red sweater? A. It was a gift from my mom as my best friend. B. It held many memories and offered me comfort. C. It was Mom’s favourite despite its overuse. D. It witnessed my growth from a girl to a woman. 20. Why did Mom love to attend the native powwow? A. She felt isolated and wanted to make friends there. B. She lost her culture after she married my father. C. She was eager to be identified with her ancient roots. D. She was passionate about outdoor activities. 21. Which of the following best describes Mom? A. Quiet and considerate. B. Strict and determined. C. Talkative and humorous. D. Hardworking and caring. 22. Which of the following can be a suitable title for the text? A. Silenced Cultural Identity B. A Valuable Heritage C. The Red Sweater D. Journey to the Roots 【答案】19. B 20. C 21. D 22. 第三段第二句“To cope with my grief, I would imagine my mom wearing the red sweater and reaching out to comfort me.( 为了处理我的悲伤,我会想象妈妈穿着红色毛衣,伸出手来安慰我。)” 根据第五段前五句“One of my favourite memories are the native powwws (帕瓦仪式) we attended on Panmure Island. First Nations people from all over North America travelled there to participate in the powwows. It was an opportunity for Mom to mingle with the First Nations people, wear her native shirt, dance in the sacred circle and socialize. She loved going to those powwows and I remember her proudly telling an elder once, “I’m Indian, too.” 根据第三段最后一句“Her warm hands, worn and shrivelled (干枯) from age and work, had cared for a large family, and brought life to plants and flowers. (她温暖的双手因年龄和工作而磨损和枯萎,照顾了一个大家庭,给植物和花朵带来了生命。)”可知,母亲很是勤劳,总是在关心关爱家庭和自然。故选D项。 【22题详解】 主旨大意题。根据最后一段“Now, her image travels with me when I feel grief and pain. She always wears the red sweater and for an instant, our hands join. Death has not separated us. C The concept of “China chic”, or guochao, has become popular in recent years. According to relevant data, the search volume for the keyword “Guochao” increased by 392.66% year-on-year from January to July 2022. The Baidu 2021 Guochao Pride Search Big Data Report revealed that interest in guochao has skyrocketed over the past 10 years. Domestic products are now in fashion, and domestic consumption has increasingly become an important choice for the new generation of consumers. China chic integrates unique cultural elements with the latest trends across various industries. It not only meets younger consumers’ desire for personality and fashion but also helps revive traditional culture. The rise of China chic is a result of China’s rapid economic development and is driven by certain cultural motivations. Additionally, the continuous improvement of Chinese people’s consumption power is an important factor behind the rise of China chic. Most importantly, cultural confidence is the driving force behind the rise of China chic. Five thousand years of Chinese civilization have left behind a rich cultural heritage. In many ways, guochao is the perfect representative of the new wave of Chinese cultural pride. Originating in the fashion industry, this trend reflects Chinese consumers’ renewed interest in their cultural heritage. The guochao trend is strongest among young adults who have grown up in an increasingly powerful China and thus possess a strong sense of national pride. China’s national strength is growing, and its soft power is also on the rise. Even so, we still have a long way to go in promoting China chic. But as it has become a part of people’s lives, there is no doubt that even more diverse China chic products will emerge in the future to showcase Chinese charm. 23. What does the underlined word “skyrocketed” in the first paragraph mean? A. Risen sharply. B. Dropped obviously. C. Remained stable. D. Changed slightly. 24. Which best describes “China chic”? A. It aims mainly to promote Chinese exports. B. It mixes traditional culture with current trends. C. It attracts mostly middle-aged and older consumers. D. It draws major inspiration from Western fashion styles. 25. What is identified as the primary driver behind the rise of China chic? A. The expansion of China’s economy. B. The growth in people’s purchasing power. C. A renewed sense of cultural identity. D. The influence of social media on the youth. 26. What does the author imply about the future of China chic? A. It will soon lead global fashion. B. It will need more policy support. C. It will remain a small market. D. It will continue to develop and diversify. A 24. B 25. C 26. 根据第一段中“According to relevant data, the search volume for the keyword “Guochao” increased by 392.66% year-on-year from January to July 2022. (根据相关数据显示,2022年1月至7月,“国潮”关键词的搜索量同比增长了392.66%)”可知,国潮关键词搜索量同比大幅增长,由此可推测划线词与选项A含义相近,意为“急剧上升”。故选A。 根据第二段中“China chic integrates unique cultural elements with the latest trends across various industries. (“国潮”将独特的文化元素与各行业的最新潮流相融合)”可知,国潮将独特文化元素与最新潮流融合。故选B。 【25题详解】 细节理解题。根据第三段中“Most importantly, cultural confidence is the driving force behind the rise of China chic. (最重要的是,文化自信是国潮兴起的核心驱动力)”可知,国潮兴起的核心驱动力是文化自信,即“重新焕发的文化认同感”。故选C。 【26题详解】 推理判断题。根据最后一段中“But as it has become a part of people’s lives, there is no doubt that even more diverse China chic products will emerge in the future to showcase Chinese charm. (但随着它已逐渐融入人们的日常生活,毫无疑问,未来将涌现出更多样化的国潮产品,向世界展现独特的中国魅力)”可知,作者认为未来会出现更多元的国潮产品,即国潮将“继续发展并多元化”。故选D。 D From an airplane, cars moving slowly down the highway look like ants. But unlike cars, actual ants somehow manage to avoid stop-and-go traffic. Researchers are now studying these insects’ cooperative strategies to learn how to program self-driving cars that don’t jam up. The previous research by Katsuhiro Nishinari, a mathematical physicist at the University of Tokyo, had shown that foraging (觅食的) ants can maintain their flow even when it’s very crowded. So what’s their secret? In a recent study, researchers recorded Ochetellus ants on foraging paths and used traffic-engineering models to analyze their movement. They found that the ants don’t jam because they travel in groups of three to twenty that move at nearly constant rates while keeping good distances between one another — and they don’t speed up to pass others. Human drivers at rush hour are hardly likely to follow such rules. “We’re maximizing the interest of individuals, which is why at a given point you start to have a traffic jam,” says study co-author Nicola Pugno, who studies solid mechanics at the University of Trento in Italy. However, self-driving cars could have more cooperative programming if they one day become widespread. In one vision of this future, autonomous vehicles would share information with nearby cars to enhance traffic flow by prioritizing (优先考虑) constant speeds and time intervals or by not passing others on the road. This vehicle network would be similar to ants on a path, which use scent to coordinate behavior while interacting with one another. However, today’s drivers can learn at least one thing from ants to avoid causing a traffic jam: don’t tailgate. By leaving room between their car and the one ahead of them, drivers can prevent small slowdowns from turning into big traffic jams. Maintaining a steady speed rather than frequent speed-up and braking (刹车) can also help reduce the likelihood of traffic jams, making the journey smoother and safer for everyone on the road. 27. Why do ants never get caught in traffic jams? A. They are small and travel slowly. B. They have a special sense of direction. C. They always move in a similar foraging path. D. They keep a steady speed and a suitable distance. 28. How might self-driving cars reduce traffic jams? A. By adjusting routes in real time. B. By moving along the dedicated lanes. C. By sharing data with surrounding vehicles. D. By monitoring road conditions with sensors. 29. What does the underlined word “tailgate” in the last paragraph probably mean? A. Brake suddenly. B. Follow closely. C. Drive quickly. D. Turn sharply. 30. Which can be a suitable title for the text? A. Reasons for Modern Traffic Jams B. Methods to Manage Traffic Flow C. Ant-Inspired Solutions for Smoother Traffic D. Interaction-Based Traffic Systems on City Roads 【答案】27. D 28. C 29. B 30. 根据第二段中“They found that the ants don’t jam because they travel in groups of three to twenty that move at nearly constant rates while keeping good distances between one another — and they don’t speed up to pass others. (研究发现,蚂蚁之所以不会发生堵塞,是因为它们通常以3到20只为一组进行移动,这些蚂蚁群体保持着近乎恒定的行进速度,彼此间保持适当间距,而且从不加速超过其他蚂蚁)”可知,蚂蚁永远不会陷入交通堵塞是因为它们保持近乎恒定的速度和良好的间距。故选D项。 【28题详解】 细节理解题。根据第三段中“In one vision of this future, autonomous vehicles would share information with nearby cars to enhance traffic flow by prioritizing (优先考虑) constant speeds and time intervals or by not passing others on the road. (在未来的一种设想中,自动驾驶汽车将与附近的汽车共享信息,通过优先考虑恒定的速度和时间间隔,或者不超过路上的其他人,来提高交通流量)”可知,自动驾驶汽车可通过与附近车辆共享信息来减少交通堵塞。故选C项。 【29题详解】 词句猜测题。根据画线词的下文“By leaving room between their car and the one ahead of them, drivers can prevent small slowdowns from turning into big traffic jams. (通过在他们的车和前面的车之间留出空间,司机可以防止小的减速变成大的交通堵塞)”并结合划线词句可知,避免堵塞的方法是在车与前车之间留出空间,因此画线词应指“跟车过近”。故选B项。 【30题详解】 主旨大意题。通读全文,尤其是第一段中“But unlike cars, actual ants somehow manage to avoid stop-and-go traffic. Researchers are now studying these insects’ cooperative strategies to learn how to program self-driving cars that don’t jam up. Knowing exactly how to comfort your friend and what to say isn’t always easy, and you might be feeling a little tongue-tied. Let them know that your support is continuous and that you are there for them whenever they need someone to lean on.(给他们发一条贴心的短信,一起策划一些活动,或者只是问问他们的近况如何。 可知,此处指出对于朋友的支持要是持续不断的,C项“Comforting someone should not be a one-time act but an ongoing process.(安慰他人不应只是一次性的行为,而应是一个持续的过程。)” 四、完形填空(共15小题;每小题1分,满分15分) My husband’s career has led to our family relocating many times. Journey to the Roots C The concept of “China chic”, or guochao, has become popular in recent years. D From an airplane, cars moving slowly down the highway look like ants.
