There will be many vendors (商贩) offering handmade arts and crafts, instruments, beer and wines, and delicious food.

As a high school freshman, my early high school life could be described as “struggling to get As and Bs”. When I first entered Carnegie Vanguard High School, everyone told me how difficult the studies would be and what academic challenges I would face, and later, it turned out they were absolutely right.
There’s a certain weight in your heart when you open up your grade book to see that you got a 30 on a test. The truth is that grades do not matter or define (给……下定义) you all that much. Try not to let your grades influence your feelings too much. While getting a good standard as a student is crucial, your academic record does not show whether or not you will succeed in the future. Do your best to get good grades, but a few bad ones aren’t the end of the world.
Some people say that the most important way to succeed is to manage your time well, and the easiest way to do that is to write down what you need to do. Carnegie High School gives each student a complete calendar with a planner. At the start of my freshman year, I used it every day and wrote down every assignment. However, I soon got tired of this and thought I could remember everything with just my memory — that was a big mistake. Within a few days, I found I couldn’t remember all the assignments. It was then that I realized: writing things down by hand makes it much easier to plan your tasks.
Human Geography is probably one of the most challenging courses for me. What makes it hard is not the teacher or the course content, but the 20 pages of reading we have to finish every day. So here’s a piece of advice I want to share: keep reading Reading is one of the most important ways we learn. Reading long articles may feel tiring and boring, but it will definitely benefit you in the end.
4. What did people tell the writer before he entered Carnegie Vanguard High School?
A. The school was very easy for freshmen.
B. The teachers were not friendly.
C. He would get good grades easily.
D. The studies there would be difficult.
5. What does the underlined word “crucial” in Paragraph 2 probably mean?
A. Puzzling. B. Important. C. Simple. D. Difficult.
6. What can we infer (推断) about the writer from Paragraphs 3 and 4?
A. The writer still uses his memory to remember homework now.
B. The writer thinks reading doesn’t help with learning Human Geography.
C. The writer has a better way to manage his homework.
D. The writer wants to stop taking the Human Geography class.
7. What is the main idea of the passage?
A. The writer’s experiences as a freshman and the useful tips he gained.
B. The writer’s advice on how to get good grades in high school.
C. The writer’s hard time in Carnegie Vanguard High School.
D. The difficulties of learning Human Geography in high school.
D 5. B 6. C 7. A
根据文章第一段“When I first entered Carnegie Vanguard High School, everyone told me how difficult the studies would be and what academic challenges I would face , and later, it turned out they were absolutely right.(当我第一次进入卡内基文先锋高中时,每个人都告诉我学习会有多难,我会面临什么样的学术挑战, 后来,事实证明他们完全正确。)可推知,人们告诉作者在该校的学习会很困难。故选D。
【5题详解】
词句猜测题。根据文章第2段划线词所在句“While getting a good standard as a student is crucial, your academic record does not show whether or not you will succeed in the future.(虽然在学生阶段取得良好的成绩是crucial,但你的学业成绩并不能表明你未来是否会取得成功。)”
根据文章第三段的“Some people say that the most important way to succeed is to manage your time well, and the easiest way to do that is to write down what you need to do.(有人认为,要想取得成功,最重要的方法就是合理安排时间,而要做到这一点,最简单的方法就是把需要做的事情列出来。)”和文章第四段的“So here’s a piece of advice I want to share: keep reading Reading is one of the most important ways we learn.(所以这里我想分享一条建议:坚持阅读。
故选A。
C
In 2025 factory tours are a new popular trend for young Chinese travelers. They started as educational trips but now have become a surprising tourism trend in China.
On weekends, young people visit different factories, like car factories, coffee farms and soda filling lines They go there for fun, to take photos for social media and to try hands-on (亲身参与的) activities. Companies notice this trend too, so they offer fun activities and themed (主题式) tours to attract young visitors.
For example, when Xiaomi’s Beijing car factory opened tours in January, over 4,600 people wanted to join, but only 20 could sign up (报名). Another company called Unitree sells tour tickets. Even though some tickets were resold for 3,000 yuan, many people still wanted to buy them.
Now many young Chinese choose to visit factories over malls or theme parks on weekends. They share their tour stories online, which encourages more peers to try this activity. Families take their kids to factories to see how things are made — it helps kids link their textbook knowledge to real life. Young office workers feel nostalgic (怀旧的), as factories remind them of their parents’ hard work. It also lets them take a rest from screens.
For young Chinese, factories are more than workplaces. They stand for the country’s strength and new ideas. Visiting them helps people learn, enjoy culture and feel proud of China.
8. What do companies do to attract young visitors to factory tours?
A. They give free tickets to all young people.
B. They offer fun activities and themed tours.
C. They let visitors work in the factories.
D. They sell factory products at low prices.
9. What can we infer from the example of Xiaomi’s Beijing car factory?
A. Few young people are interested in car factory tours.
B. Xiaomi’s car factory only opens tours in January.
C. The demand for factory tours is very high.
D. Xiaomi’s car factory is not in Beijing.
10. Why do families take their kids to factories?
A. To let kids take photos for social media.
B. To help kids connect textbook knowledge with real life.
C. To make kids feel nostalgic about the past.
D. To let kids buy cheap factory products.
11. What is the main idea of the passage?
A. How young Chinese travelers spend their weekends.
B. What young people do in different factories.
C. How companies make money from factory tours.
D. Why factory tours are popular among young Chinese.
B 9. C 10. B 11. D

根据文章第三段的理解“For example, when Xiaomi’s Beijing car factory opened tours in January, over 4,600 people wanted to join, but only 20 could sign up (报名).(例如,小米北京汽车工厂在1月份开放参观活动时,有超过4600人想要参加,但最终只有20人能够报名。)”
根据文章第四段的“Families take their kids to factories to see how things are made— it helps kids link their textbook knowledge to real life.(家长带孩子参观工厂是为了让孩子将课本知识与现实生活联系起来。)”
通读全文,特别是第一段内容“In 2025, factory tours are a new popular trend for young Chinese travelers. They started as educational trips but now have become a surprising tourism trend in China.( 2025年,工厂参观成为了年轻中国游客的新热门旅游方式。起初这种活动是作为教育之旅开展的,但如今已在中国成为一种令人惊讶的旅游潮流。)”可推断,全文通过年轻人参与工厂游览的现象(第一段)、企业举措(第二段)、火爆案例(第三段)及社会意义(第四-五段),重点说明工厂游览在年轻群体中流行的原因。故选D。

David Tyney, a winemaker from Marlborough, New Zealand, first visited Ningxia in 2012 to take part in a winemaking competition. At the time, he knew little about this remote region (遥远的区域) in northwest China, and he never thought this trip would start a strong friendship between two faraway wine regions.
The competition aimed to help local professionals (专业人士) in Ningxia improve their skills and introduce international grape varieties (品种). Since his parents lived in Beijing, Tyney had long been drawn to Chinese culture. The competition gave him a chance to explore Ningxia’s young but promising wine industry. Over the next two years, he returned several times to guide key steps in winemaking — fermentation (发酵), oak aging (橡木桶陈酿), and bottling. His skills and devotion soon made his wines become popular.
During this time, Tyney met Kiki Chen, a university student studying regional (地区的) development. He hired her as an assistant. Her strong command of English enabled Tyney to communicate effectively with the local farmers. But a problem soon appeared: Tyney wanted to wait longer before picking the grapes so they could become sweeter and tastier, but farmers wanted to pick early to sell heavier grapes and earn more money. The disagreement ended only when Tyney’s wine won an international award, proving that his method worked effectively.
In 2013, Tyney invited Kiki Chen to visit Marlborough. While there, she saw that both areas were good for growing grapes — dry weather, lots of sun, and good soil. She also learned that their wine industries began at about the same time and were growing in a similar way. They contacted local officials (官员) and met Neil Henry, who pointed out a key advantage: the growing seasons were opposite. While Marlborough harvests in March and April, Ningxia harvests in September and October — making it possible for winemakers to work all year round.
What began as a simple winemaking exchange has grown into something much bigger. As the wine industries in both regions developed side by side, cooperation slowly spread to education, tourism, and cultural exchange. This growing friendship shows that strong international ties often begin with the actions of just one passionate individual.
12. What can we infer about the 2012 winemaking competition?
A. It was Ningxia’s first winemaking competition.
B. It only introduced foreign grapes to Ningxia.
C. It helped Tyney know more about Ningxia’s wine industry.
D. It aimed to attract foreign winemakers to settle in Ningxia.
13. Why did Tyney and local farmers have a problem?
A. Tyney’s wine was not popular locally first.
B. Farmers refused Tyney’s harvest time suggestion.
C. Tyney refused to hire local farmers for winemaking.
D. Farmers thought Tyney’s methods raised costs.
14. What advantage of the opposite growing seasons did Neil Henry point out?
A. They allowed farmers to grow different grapes.
B. They enabled winemakers to work throughout the year.
C. They reduced grape transportation costs.
D. They gave grapes more time to grow.
15. What is the passage’s primary purpose?
A. To show one’s efforts can help international cooperation.
B. To explain high-quality wine’s technical process.
C. To compare two wine regions’ climate and soil.
D. To encourage winemakers to work in Ningxia.
【答案】12 C 13. B 14. B 15. A

根据文章第三段“But a problem soon appeared: Tyney wanted to wait longer before picking the grapes so they could become sweeter and tastier, but farmers wanted to pick early to sell heavier grapes and earn more money.(但很快出现了一个问题:Tyney希望推迟采摘葡萄的时间,以便让葡萄变得更甜、更美味,但农民们则希望早点采摘,以便能收获更多重量的葡萄并赚取更多钱。)”
根据文章第四段的“They contacted local officials (官员) and met Neil Henry, who pointed out a key advantage: the growing seasons were opposite. While Marlborough harvests in March and April, Ningxia harvests in September and October — making it possible for winemakers to work all year round.(他们与当地官员取得了联系,并见到了Neil Henry。他指出了一个关键优势:两地的种植季节正好相反。马尔堡在3月和4月进行采摘,而宁夏则在9月和10月进行采摘——这使得酿酒商全年都有工作可做。)”可知,Neil Henry指出两地的葡萄生长季节相反,使酿酒师可以全年工作,这是一个优势。故选B。
【15题详解】
推理判断题。根据文章最后一段“This growing friendship shows that strong international ties often begin with the actions of just one passionate individual.(这种日益深厚友谊表明,强大的国际关系往往是由一位充满激情的个人的行动所开启的。)” 故选A。

Before starting your study, having a clear goal in mind is extremely important. ____17____. Goals that are clear and easy to reach can make you much more motivated. For example, instead of just saying “I want to do well in math”, you could set a goal like “I will improve my math test score by 15 points in the next exam”.
____18____.
Don’t try to finish a lot of study materials all at once. It’s better to break them into smaller, easy-to-finish tasks. Smaller goals are much easier to reach, and each time you finish one, it will increase your motivation (动机). For instance, if you have a history chapter to study, break it down into sections and study one section each day.
Understand the “why”
It’s important to understand why you are learning something. This can help you stay focused even when facing difficulties. If you know that learning a foreign language will give you more job opportunities in the future, you will be more likely to stick to your study plan.
Find your motivation
Everyone has different things that motivate them. Decide what really makes you want to study hard. Maybe it’s the desire to get into a good university, or to make your parents proud. ____19____.
Create a study plan
A well-organized study plan can make your study more efficient. ____20____. Include specific study times for each subject and also set aside some time for review and relaxation. For example, you could study math from 7-9 pm, take a 15-minute break, and then study English from 9:15-10:45 pm.

From that day on, they became good friends and always stayed with each other.
A month later, their school had the first English speech contest Sarah and Emma decided to join it as a team. They talked about their plan happily and made a promise (许诺): after school, they would meet in the library to start getting ready. Sarah looked forward to (期待) it very much.
After school, Sarah put her books into her bag quickly and ran to the library. She arrived on time, found a quiet corner and took out her notebook. But minutes went by (流逝), and Emma still didn’t come. Sarah waited for half an hour, but there was still no sign of Emma. She tried to send Emma a message, but got no reply. She knew that Emma was a responsible student and would never break her promise on purpose.

In 2025, factory tours are a new popular trend for young Chinese travelers. They started as educational trips but now have become a surprising tourism trend in China.
On weekends, young people visit different factories, like car factories, coffee farms and soda filling lines They go there for fun, to take photos for social media and to try hands-on (亲身参与) activities.
C To make kids feel nostalgic about the past.
D. To let kids buy cheap factory products.

Eight Tips for Learning a New Skill Effectively
How can high school students study more effectively? ____16____.
Set clear goals
