The first time I went to Germany with my boyfriend, I was very young and hadn’t been to many places. As soon as we arrived, I had this incredible revelation.“I know all about this area. The food, the language. I know all about the Schwarzwald, the Black Forest,”I said to his German family.“How do you know about this?” they asked, in disbelief.
That was the first time it dawned on me how much I knew about the rest of the world, and how prepared I was for it, just from growing up in New York City — that I had been everywhere before I’d ever actually gone anywhere.
I grew up in the Chelsea Projects, 288 10th Avenue at 26th Street. A lot of kids there were first generation Americans with immigrant parents who were still speaking Yiddish or Chinese or Portuguese, or just name a language, and they were speaking it. You ate every imaginable food from the rest of the world there. You were exposed to all different kinds of traditions.
It wasn’t just that. The whole city was a classroom. All over town, you learned stuff you didn’t even know you were learning. You didn’t have to be rich to learn it, either. My mom was a teacher — a great Head Start teacher — and she made sure I partook of everything New York had to offer people who didn’t have any money, because she knew it was the greatest education in the world.
We went to all the museums, which were free back then. We’d ride the bus to Lincoln Center, before it was Lincoln Center, and watch dancers dancing there. Or we’d take the train to Coney Island. Those trips are among my fondest memories.
New York City played a big part in making me who I am. It’s where I learned that I could pursue whatever I loved, but that I couldn’t be a slacker The city is everything you’ve heard it is. It’s crazy, it’s horrible, it’s magnificent, it’s beautiful. It’s a real live wire, hard to leave.
4. What contributed to the author’s knowledge of Germany?
A. Her childhood experience. B. Her boyfriend’s descriptions.
C. Her past travel adventures. D. Her previous school education.
5. What can we learn about the author’s neighborhood?
A. It was a tourist hotspot for traditions.
B. It was famous for its many restaurants.
C. Kids there were born outside of America.
D. Parents there spoke their mother tongues.
6. What did New York provide?
A. Diverse learning opportunities. B. Quality education programs.
C. Financial support for parents. D. Welfare benefits for the poor.
7. From which book is the text most likely taken?
A. Into Unknown Skies. B. Never Can Say Goodbye.
C. Mom is Always by My Side. D. Falling for the Hometown Girl.
A 5. D 6. A 7. B

根据第三段中“I grew up in the Chelsea Projects, 288 10th Avenue at 26th Street. A lot of kids there were first generation Americans with immigrant parents who were still speaking Yiddish or Chinese or Portuguese, or just name a language, and they were speaking it.(我从小在切尔西项目区长大的,地址是第十大道288号,位于26街。那里的很多孩子都是第一代美国人,他们的父母是移民,仍然说着意第绪语、中文或葡萄牙语,或者随便说一种语言,他们就在说这种语言)”可知,作者所在社区的父母们仍然说着他们的母语。故选D项。
【6题详解】
细节理解题。根据第四段中“The whole city was a classroom. All over town, you learned stuff you didn’t even know you were learning. You didn’t have to be rich to learn it, either.(整座城市都是课堂。在街巷阡陌间,你不知不觉汲取着知识——而这些学问,从来都与财富无关)”和第五段“We went to all the museums, which were free back then. 【7题详解】
推理判断题。通读全文,结合最后一段“New York City played a big part in making me who I am. It’s where I learned that I could pursue whatever I loved, but that I couldn’t be a slacker (偷懒的人). The city is everything you’ve heard it is. It’s crazy, it’s horrible, it’s magnificent, it’s beautiful. It’s a real live wire, hard to leave.(纽约这座城市塑造了如今的我。在这里我领悟到:可以追逐所爱,但绝不能苟且懈怠。这座城市集合了所有你听闻的特质——既疯狂又糟糕,既壮丽又美好。她是根永不停歇的带电导线,令人难以割舍)”可知,文章主要讲述了作者在纽约的成长经历对她认知世界和塑造自我的影响,表达了她对纽约的深厚感情和难以割舍的情怀,所以本文最有可能选自《Never Can Say Goodbye》一书。故选B项。
C
In an oasis of green space sandwiched among Manhattan skyscrapers, one oddball stood out among the parkgoers Monday morning. It was a robot mower (割草机) named “Belawncé”. Looking like an oversize Roomba with heavy-duty wheels, it pilots itself with the help of an artificial intelligence camera system that resembles a pair of human eyes. After two to four hours of mowing, the robot navigates to a charging station.
For the past few months, the electric robot mower has taken over grass-clipping duties on the main lawn of Bryant Park, a small but heavily used public park. Toshi Yano, director of the park, said in an interview that the robot mower has proved effective, safe and more environmentally friendly than gas-powered, human-operated mowers.
Belawncé is a glimpse at the promise and the problems of using robots for tasks such as yard work. Bryant Park previously tried a couple of other robot mowers that were finicky. The prior robots would get stuck in certain parts of the park. To connect to satellites for navigation, at times the park needed one receiver on-site and another on a nearby office tower. Starting this spring, Bryant Park picked a model made by a company called Sunseeker. It has required less human intervention over time.
Unlike its pop star namesake, Belawncé and its fellow robot mowers aren’t beloved by all. Nanci Fioravanti, landscape manager for Green-Wood, a popular green space in Brooklyn that uses two robot mowers, has had to reassure staff worried about job losses from automation. Fioravanti also said that the robot mowers aren’t suited to steep areas of Green-Wood or where tree cover makes them lose signal.
Park officials made sure Belawncé navigated around or stopped for humans and wildlife. “Either the birds or the AI or some combination of both are doing what they’re supposed to do and avoiding one another,” Yano said.
8. What is a key feature of Belawncé?
A. It is gas-powered. B. It looks human-like.
C. It is uniquely shaped. D. It operates autonomously.
9. What does the underlined word “finicky” in paragraph 3 probably mean?
A. Efficient. B. Demanding. C. Independent. D. Conventional.
10. What aspect concerning robot mowers was mentioned in paragraph 4?
A. Their adaptability. B. Their limitations.
C. Their environmental value. D. Their maintenance costs.
11. What is the author’s purpose in writing the text?
A. To promote the use of robot mowers.
B. To call for a review of robot mowers.
C. To report on the adoption of a robot mower.
D. To present the development of a robot mower.
D 9. B 10. B 11. C
根据第一段中“Looking like an oversize Roomba with heavy-duty wheels, it pilots itself with the help of an artificial intelligence camera system that resembles a pair of human eyes. After two to four hours of mowing, the robot navigates to a charging station. (它看起来像一个带有重型轮子的超大Roomba,在类似人眼的人工智能摄像系统的帮助下自行驾驶。割草两到四个小时后,机器人会自动导航到充电站。)”可知,Belawncé可以自行驾驶,即自主操作。故选D项。
【9题详解】
词句猜测题。根据划线词所在句子和后文“Bryant Park previously tried a couple of other robot mowers that were finicky. The prior robots would get stuck in certain parts of the park. To connect to satellites for navigation, at times the park needed one receiver on-site and another on a nearby office tower. (布莱恩特公园之前尝试过其他几个机器人割草机,但它们都很finicky。先前的机器人会卡在公园的某些地方。为了连接卫星进行导航,有时公园需要现场有一个接收器,附近的办公楼上有另一个接收器)”可知,之前的机器人割草机存在诸多问题,需要复杂的设置和操作,由此可推知,划线词finicky意为“要求苛刻的”,与B项“Demanding”意思相近。故选B项。
【10题详解】
细节理解题。根据第四段中“Fioravanti also said that the robot mowers aren’t suited to steep areas of Green-Wood or where tree cover makes them lose signal. (Fioravanti还表示,机器人割草机不适合Green-Wood的陡峭区域,也不适合树木覆盖导致信号丢失的地方。)”可知,本段提及了机器人割草机的局限性。故选B项。
【11题详解】
推理判断题。通读全文,结合第一段中“In an oasis of green space sandwiched among Manhattan skyscrapers, one oddball stood out among the parkgoers Monday morning. It was a robot mower (割草机) named “Belawncé”. (周一早上,在曼哈顿摩天大楼之间的绿色空间中,一个古怪的东西在公园游客中脱颖而出。那是一台名为“Belawncé”的机器人割草机。)”可知,文章主要报道了布莱恩特公园引入的一款名为“Belawncé”的机器人割草机,介绍了其特点、使用情况、优缺点以及人们对它的看法。由此可推知,作者写这篇文章的目的是报道一款机器人割草机的采用情况。故选C项。
D
For some readers, a dictionary opens up a world. Dictionaries contain multiple pleasures, such as settling word-game wars by turning actual pages. For the rest, a dictionary is either outdated or strictly online. In 2012, Encyclopaedia Britannica stopped printing new editions, going digital-only.
In his book, Unabridged: The Thrill of (and Threat to) the Modern Dictionary, American journalist Stefan Fatsis writes of the shift brought about by our decade-old dependence on search engines: “Definitions, good and bad, were a click away, and most people didn’t care or couldn’t tell which was which: expert research, scraped data, zombie (僵尸) websites, whatever popped up in a search.”
When I was a child, I loved dictionaries, and so did every sensible parent in Calcutta. If your child was literate, one of the 20 volumes of the Oxford English Dictionary or an illustratedCollins was the surest way to keep them happily occupied, setting them off on hunts for lost or forgotten words.
Fatsis sees dictionary-making as “a human endeavor (努力) stretching back to the third millennium BCE”. From the Akkadians to Sanskrit scholars what dictionary makers hoped to do went far beyond the already tricky task of writing definitions: their job was to explain and track “the endless shifts in language”.
Change is inevitable, though Fatsis also asks what we lose in the name of convenience. He writes, “the job of the dictionary was firmly established… By the time I finished this book, it wasn’t clear how much longer flesh-bone-and-blood lexicographers would be needed to document the march of the English language. Between traditional search engines and AI-enhanced search through LLMs (large language models), the way we look up words, and find meaning in language itself, has changed.”
We can’t claim that humanity still needs physical dictionaries. Like encyclopedias and atlases, the best of them have long moved online. Indeed, the starting points of most search engines were the encyclopedias and dictionaries compiled (编纂) by experts. But I plan to hold on to my beloved, dog-eared physical dictionaries — such priceless time capsules, one of the last paradises of freedom from the endless scroll of digital content.
12. What has reduced people’s reliance on physical dictionaries?
A. The decline of the print media.
B. The convenience of online lookup.
C. People’s indifference to accuracy.
D. Publishers’ insistence on going digital.
13. What can we infer about the future of real-life lexicographers?
A. Their workload will double.
B. They will remain in demand.
C. Their existence is threatened.
D. They need to upgrade their skills.
14. Why does the author stick to physical dictionaries?
A. They boost long-term memory.
B. They last longer than digital files.
C. They offer an escape from screens.
D. They give more authoritative definitions.
15. What can be a suitable title for the text?
A. A Word in Favor of Dictionaries
B. My Love for Looking up Words
C. A Best-seller on the Theme of Change
D. Human Endeavors in Dictionary-making
B 13. C 14. C 15. A
根据第二段“In his book, Unabridged: The Thrill of (and Threat to) the Modern Dictionary, American journalist Stefan Fatsis writes of the shift brought about by our decade-old dependence on search engines: “Definitions, good and bad, were a click away, and most people didn’t care or couldn’t tell which was which: expert research, scraped data, zombie (僵尸) websites, whatever popped up in a search.”(美国记者斯蒂芬·法特西斯在其著作《未删节本:现代词典的诱惑与威胁》中,记述了人类对搜索引擎长达十年的依赖所带来的变革:“无论是精良的释义还是粗劣的诠释,皆可一键获取。绝大多数人对此毫不在意,抑或无力辨别——专业研究、抓取数据、僵尸网站,凡是搜索所得皆照单全收。”)”可知,网络搜索的便捷性使人们只需点击一下就能获取定义,从而减少了对纸质词典的依赖。故选B项。
【13题详解】
推理判断题。根据第五段中“By the time I finished this book, it wasn’t clear how much longer flesh-bone-and-blood lexicographers would be needed to document the march of the English language.(等我写完这本书时,已无法确定,人们还需要有血有肉的词典编纂者多久,来记录英语语言的发展进程)”可知,作者不确定现实中的词典编纂者还能被需要多久,由此可推知,现实生活中的词典编纂者的生存受到了威胁。
根据最后一段中“But I plan to hold on to my beloved, dog-eared physical dictionaries — such priceless time capsules, one of the last paradises of freedom from the endless scroll of digital content.(但我仍打算保留我那本心爱的、书页卷角的纸质词典——它就像无比珍贵的时光胶囊,也是摆脱无休无止滚动的数字内容后,仅存的自由天堂之一)”可知,作者坚持使用纸质词典是因为它们提供了从屏幕中解脱出来的机会,是摆脱无休无止滚动的数字内容的天堂。
通读全文,尤其是最后一段“We can’t claim that humanity still needs physical dictionaries. Like encyclopedias and atlases, the best of them have long moved online. Indeed, the starting points of most search engines were the encyclopedias and dictionaries compiled (编纂) by experts. But I plan to hold on to my beloved, dog-eared physical dictionaries — such priceless time capsules, one of the last paradises of freedom from the endless scroll of digital content.(我们无法断言人类仍需要实体词典。 故选A项。

上文“Adding your kid to your credit card can be a shortcut to helping them establish their own credit history, which is hugely important for their financial future.(将孩子添加到你的信用卡中可以是帮助他们建立自己信用记录的捷径,这对他们的财务未来非常重要)”指出将孩子添加到信用卡有好处,G选项“But it’s natural to have mixed feelings about handing over a credit card in your name.(但将署有自己名字的信用卡交由他人,会产生复杂的矛盾心理,这实属人之常情)”与上文构成转折关系,说明虽然有好处,但人们对此也会有复杂的感受,进而引出下文的问题“So, should you do it?(那么,你应该这么做吗?)”。故选G项。
下文“From there, you will want to weigh the pros and cons and consider the specifics of your situation to decide what the right call is.(从那里,你将想要权衡利弊并考虑你情况的具体细节来决定正确的做法是什么)”提到要权衡利弊并考虑具体情况来做决定,F选项“The first step in making this decision is getting clear on authorized-user basics.(做出这个决定的第一步是弄清楚授权用户的基本情况)”说明在做决定之前要先了解授权用户的基本情况,与下文的“From there”相呼应,上下文衔接紧密。故选F项。
根据下文“You can add your child to your credit card account by making them an authorized user. This arrangement can help establish their credit history.(你可以通过让孩子成为授权用户将他们添加到你的信用卡账户中。这种安排可以帮助建立他们的信用记录)”可知,此段主要讲将孩子添加为授权用户的好处,E选项“How can adding your kid as an authorized user help them?(将你的孩子添加为授权用户如何帮助他们?)”

Siya was excited to set off for her long-awaited holiday in Himachal. After working at a stretch for months, she couldn’t wait to escape to the peaceful mountains. Her parents would be joining her too. The weather, the mountains and the peace, everything would be theirs for a whole month!
She reached a day earlier to settle into the guest house before her parents arrived. As she sat by the window, sipping her coffee and watching the mountains, the caretaker of the guest house arrived, worried. “Ma’am, there’s been heavy snowfall in all parts of the state. So, the flights to Himachal have been canceled. It’s going to be difficult for anyone to get through for the next few days,” he said.
Siya’s heart sank. She quickly grabbed her phone to call her mother when a message arrived: “Dear kiddo, our flight got cancelled because of the snow. We’re stuck here for five more days. Stay safe, and we’ll be there as soon as we can.”
“Well, what now?” Siya muttered to herself, feeling disappointed. “I was looking forward to seeing them. What will I do alone for so long?!”
The next day, Siya spent her time at the guest house all by herself. The snow continued to fall heavily and the roads remained blocked. It was peaceful yet lonely. She spent her time reading books and watching snowflakes but felt downhearted about how her holiday had begun.
Then, on the second day, as she was lying on the couch of the living room, she heard a soft sound, like a tiny cry. She froze for a moment, wondering if her mind was playing tricks on her. She stood up and followed the sound to the porch (门廊).

As her parents stepped inside, Siya spotted an adult cat in the doorway.
____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
To her surprise, there was a wet, shaking baby cat on the porch. Its fur was matted with snow, and its small body trembled violently from the cold. Siya’s heart softened instantly — all her disappointment faded away. She rushed back inside to grab a warm towel, gently wrapped the kitten up, and placed it near the fireplace. She then fetched a bowl of warm milk, which the little cat drank eagerly. For the next few days, Siya no longer felt lonely. She named the kitten “Snowy” and spent her time feeding it, playing with it, and watching it curl up in her lap. The snow outside still blocked the roads, but her days were now filled with tiny, warm joys.
As her parents stepped inside, Siya spotted an adult cat in the doorway. It stood there cautiously, its eyes fixed on Snowy in Siya’s arms. Suddenly, Snowy let out a soft meow and jumped down, running straight to the adult cat. The two rubbed against each other gently — Siya realized it must be Snowy’s mother. Her parents laughed as they watched the sweet scene. “We were worried you’d be bored,” her mother said, hugging her. Siya smiled and shook her head. “Snowy kept me company,” she said, looking at the two cats. Though the holiday started with a twist, it turned out to be more wonderful than she’d imagined — full of unexpected warmth and love.

A It is gas-powered. B. It looks human-like.
C. It is uniquely shaped. D. It operates autonomously.

A. Their adaptability. B. Their limitations.
C. Their environmental value. D. Their maintenance costs.
11. What is the author’s purpose in writing the text?
A. To promote the use of robot mowers.
B. To call for a review of robot mowers.
C. To report on the adoption of a robot mower.
D. To present the development of a robot mower.
