Sports socializing is emerging as a popular trend, allowing busy professionals to connect on a personal level while embracing a healthier and more balanced lifestyle.
Among these sports, cycling is growing as a popular choice. Rooted in the motto of “chill, cycling, coffee”, cycling clubs have rapidly grown into an energetic community.
Zha’s passion for cycling started in June 2022 when he purchased his first road bike and took an unforgettable night ride through Shanghai’s Lujiazui financial area with another cyclist. Inspired by the growing attraction of urban night rides and a sense of belonging to a group, b15cCLUB was born. The club started out with 20 to 30 riders exploring Shanghai’s streets. Since then, it has evolved into a network of over 1,000 members aged 25 to 40 in Shanghai, Hangzhou, Zhejiang province, Xiamen, Fujian province, and even extending to Sydney, Australia.
Whether it’s midweek photo-ride sessions or themed group rides at Halloween and Christmas, the club has created a haven (港湾) for cyclists to bond over shared experiences. Wednesday Photo Cycling has become its signature event. Starting at 5:30 am, Zha leads a two-hour cycling session during which participants exercise together, snap scenic photos and develop friendships. “It’s this balance of fitness and fun that keeps everyone engaged as we aim to blend fitness with meaningful interactions,” Zha said.
According to lifestyle platform Xiaohongshu’s 2023 Outdoor Lifestyle Trend Report, cycling-related content saw remarkable growth between January and October 2023. The number of posts about such content increased by nearly 400 percent to exceed 1.8 million during that period. The topic of cycling gamered nearly 1.3 billion views on the platform.
“Cycling has opened up a new social circle for me, introducing people I might never have met otherwise. It isn’t just exercise — it’s a journey where teamwork and cooperation make every mile worthwhile,” Zha said.
8. What led to the birth of b15cCLUB?

AI kitchens, once a concept of science fiction, are now a reality across the globe. These advanced kitchens use robots to perform a variety of tasks such as flipping hamburgers, frying chicken, creating pizzas, preparing salads, and baking bread. The mixture of artificial intelligence in these kitchens allows for the invention of recipes based on the molecular compatibility (分子兼容性) of ingredients.
The benefits of AI-driven kitchens extend beyond mere convenience. AI kitchens enable chefs to be more creative, as well as removing repetitive, boring tasks such as washing the dishes or standing for hours. Not having to cook means being able to spend more time with family or focus on more urgent tasks. For personalized eating, AI can provide countless special diets on demand.
However, there are also risks to human well-being. Cooking can be relaxing and provides opportunities for many things: gratitude, communication, adventure, independence, confidence and more, all of which may be lost if no one needs to cook. Family relationships could be affected if parents and children are no longer working together in the kitchen — a suitable space to chat, in contrast to what can feel like an interrogation (盘问) at the dining table. Moreover, the food service industry faces challenges as many workers may struggle to acquire new skills for different jobs, despite the hope that technology will create more jobs than it eliminates (消除).
In conclusion, the rise of AI kitchens shows both opportunities and challenges. While they increase the efficiency and creativity in the culinary world (烹饪界), they also raise questions about society and family. The balance between developing technological advancements and preserving the human elements of cooking can’t be ignored.
12 How do AI kitchens enhance the creativity of chefs?
A. By providing more ingredients. B. By inventing special recipes.
C. By reducing cooking time. D. By offering cooking classes.
13. What is a negative impact of AI kitchens on family relationships?
A. Increased cooking time. B. More time spent together.
C. Loss of cooking as an interactive activity. D. Improved communication.
14. What is a challenge faced by the food service industry?
A. Increased job opportunities. B. More diverse menu options.
C. Lower food prices. D. Workers’ struggling to acquire new skills.
15. What is the author’s attitude toward AI kitchens?
A. Doubtful. B. Positive. C. Indifferent. D. Objective.

The journey my daughter Cathy has had with her swimming is as long as it is beautiful. It’s a story of how a little girl with a big dream overcame challenges and found her strength in the water.
Cathy suffered some terrible illness in her early childhood. The days were filled with doctor visits, treatments, and prayers for her recovery. After years of regular treatment, she finally became healthy.
Two years ago, while Cathy was watching the Olympics, a dream came into her sweet little head — to be a swimmer. Last summer, she wanted to join our local swim team. She threw herself into practice with an intensity (强度) that surprised us all. She practiced hard, every day, in our backyard pool, perfecting her movement and building her strength. And after months of hard work, she finally made the team.
The team practice, however, was a tough start. She coughed and choked (窒息) and could hardly survive her first few weeks. Hearing her coughing painfully one night, I decided to pull her from it all. But Cathy woke me up early next morning, wearing her swimsuit ready to go! I told her she shouldn’t swim after a whole night’s coughing, but she refused to give up and stuck to going.
注意:
(1)续写词数应为150个左右;

According to a report from World Weather Attribution and Climate Centra, in 2024, people worldwide experienced an average of 41 additional days of dangerous heat due to human-related climate change. This year marked a series of unexpected climate records, with 2024 likely being the hottest year ever recorded. The extreme heat contributed to numerous fatal weather events globally, affecting millions of lives and livelihoods. The report indicates that climate change has worsened much of the world’s damaging weather throughout 2024.
The impact of the heat was felt across various regions, with Northern California and Death Valley experiencing high temperatures, while Mexico and Central America faced intense heat waves. Vulnerable (弱势的) populations, such as children in West Africa, were particularly at risk. In southern Europe, soaring temperatures led to the closure of many tourist attractions, and in South and Southeast Asia, schools were shut down due to the heat.
Besides, ocean heatwaves hit the South China Sea, the Mediterranean and New Zealand, causing a lot of deaths of sea life; in New Zealand, where water temperatures rose more than four degrees above normal. Warming water is even changing the ocean flows, slowing the systems that move water from one part of the ocean to the other, a process that has the possibility to further speed up changes in the climate.
This week, plans to build the world’s most powerful AI supercomputer used to predict climate change are announced by NVIDIA. Named Earth-2, the system will create a digital twin of the Earth and will be the world’s most powerful AI supercomputer for the research of climate change.

12. How do AI kitchens enhance the creativity of chefs?
A. By providing more ingredients. B. By inventing special recipes.
C. By reducing cooking time. D. By offering cooking classes.
13. What is a negative impact of AI kitchens on family relationships?
A. Increased cooking time. B. More time spent together.
C. Loss of cooking as an interactive activity. D. Improved communication.
14. What is a challenge faced by the food service industry?
A. Increased job opportunities. B. More diverse menu options.
C. Lower food prices. D. Workers’ struggling to acquire new skills.
15. What is the author’s attitude toward AI kitchens?
A. Doubtful. B. Positive. C. Indifferent. D. Objective.
B 13. C 14. D 15. D

“share sth. with sb.” 故填with。
“have a hard time (in) doing sth.”
“make an effort”或“make efforts”都表示“努力”,这里“great”以辅音音素开头,所以用“make a great effort”,表示“付出很大努力”。故填a。
根据“As soon as I arrived”可知,事情发生在过去,所以此处用一般过去时,“realize”的过去式是“realized”。
咖啡”,用“疑问词 + 不定式”结构,“how to do sth.” 故填how。
故填that / which。
根据“than the speakers in the tape”可知,此处要用比较级,“fast”的比较级是“faster”,表示“更快”。
故填is。

注意:
(1)续写词数应为150个左右;

____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
From that day on, Cathy kept swimming and didn’t miss a single practice. Despite the discomfort from coughing, she dove into the pool with resolute determination every day. Each stroke was a struggle, but also a step forward. Her coach was moved by her perseverance and gave her more personalized guidance. Slowly, her breathing became more stable, and her swimming form improved. Her teammates, inspired by her, also offered help and support. With their combined efforts, Cathy grew stronger both physically and mentally, and her love for swimming only deepened.
Then came the final awards ceremony at the end of the year. Cathy waited nervously in the crowd, her eyes filled with a mix of hope and anxiety. When the announcer declared her name for the “Most Determined Swimmer” award, she was stunned. The audience erupted into thunderous applause. As she walked onto the stage, tears of joy streamed down her face. Holding the award, she looked at us, beaming with pride. This award was not just a recognition of her skills, but a testament to her indomitable spirit that had carried her through all the challenges.
