You can see animals and birds you only see on TV or in zoos. The trip starts in South Africa and finishes in Western Australia. You travel on a Russian ship, Kapitan Khlebnikov, and the holiday lasts for just under a month. ★Go on Safari This holiday is a trip to see wild animals with a difference. You travel by helicopter (直升飞机) over parts of Kenya, listening to music as you fly, and then you sleep under the African stars in a comfortable bed. There’s another trip in a hot-air balloon, which gives you a second chance to see wild animals. The best moment is the Elephant Watch in Samburu, where your experienced guide can tell you all about these amazing animals. ★Live like Robinson Crusoe If you dream of life on a quiet island, then this is the holiday for you. The island of Quilalea is off the coast of Mozambique and you can only see turtles (海龟) and a few tourists there. You may live like Robinson Crusoe: watch the turtles, go fishing, or travel in a boat to another island to have a picnic. ★Fly High This is probably the most expensive holiday in the world. You can go on a flight into space and travel around the Earth in a spaceship — if you have the money! The only problem with this holiday is the six-day training course before you take the trip. You travel above the Earth for between 30 and 90 minutes and you get a beautiful view of our green and blue planet. 1. What can you see in Go on Safari holiday? A. Outer space. B. Wild animals. C. Sea turtles. D. Russian ships. 2. If you prefer a holiday on a quiet island, which would be the best choice? A. See a Penguin. B. Go on Safari. C. Live like Robinson Crusoe. D. Fly High. 3. What is the purpose of the text? A. To explain dreams. B. To share geography knowledge. C. To introduce different animals. D. To attract tourists. B Math had never been something I was good at since middle school. Classes became harder in high school, and I was even further from a math teacher’s dream student. So at the start of my freshman year, I had an aversion to math. It wasn’t that I didn’t want to do well, but simply that I didn’t think I was able to do well. “I can’t” became my state of mind in all things related (有关的) to math. However, I was soon to learn that “I can’t” was not a choice in Mr. A’s class. Mr. A always greeted (迎接) us with open arms as he said, “Welcome! Smile! It’s a great day to be alive!” It was clear that Mr. A had a true passion (热情) not only for math but for teaching. If Mr. A ever experienced bad days in life, he never showed it. Mr. A greeted us with that same smile every day. He encouraged each student, from the top achiever to the “I can’t” student. I found myself looking forward to math class, although I still hated the subject itself. Being in Mr. A’s presence made me feel good, as if I had the chance to succeed. As the year progressed, I spent increasingly more time on my homework, and I met with Mr. A weekly. My classmates began to do the same, and it became “cool” to have lunch and talk with Mr. A. We didn’t know it at the time, but he was changing our attitudes (态度). Though my story is not one of overnight success and I didn’t become a straight-A math student, my hard work did begin to pay off and my grades slowly began to climb. There were hard times, of course. Difficult math questions sometimes succeeded in bringing me down, but Mr. A kept reminding (提醒) me, “Kate, smile! It’s a great day to be alive!” 4. What does the underlined word “aversion” in paragraph 1 probably mean? A. Interest. B. Responsibility. C. Dislike. D. Misunderstanding. 5. What first made the author look forward to math class? A. Mr. A’s attitude. B. Her interest in math. C. Her friends’ encouragement. D. The top achievers in her class. 6. How did the author feel about her talk over lunch with Mr. A? A. It was straight. B. It was awkward. C. It was challenging. D. It was impressive. 7. How did the author change in math? A. She made slow progress. B. She fell in love with math. C. She became a straight-A math student. D. She became comfortable with difficult math questions. C For many years, scientists and animal lovers have worked to make the world safer for endangered species. Now, there is something that needs protection from these protected animals — a famous French cheese called Roquefort, known as the “King of Cheeses”. Roquefort is made from sheep's milk in the southern part of the French mountains. Farmers have been making Roquefort for thousands of years and they follow many rules when making it, to be sure that it is done in the traditional way. One of the rules is that they must let their sheep live freely in the mountains. However, following these rules has become very dangerous. Wolves have moved into the area, and they have killed 62 sheep. The wolves are an endangered species, and have not been seen in the French mountains since the 1920s. No one is allowed to kill the wolves, but the farmers are now saying it is impossible for their sheep to live in the same mountains as the wolves. Farmers have dogs to protect the sheep and have also built electric fences, but they say they will not have enough money to continue making Roquefort once they have spent it all on keeping their sheep safe. Many people have said that wolves that attack sheep should be killed, since they have become a threat to the farmers' jobs. Others think that anyone who wants the wolves killed is trying to make them become extinct. Maybe it would not be a problem if Roquefort became extinct instead, and the wolves were able to live in the mountains. But then the farmers would not have jobs. Will the people of Southern France be able to find a way that protects both the wolves and the King of Cheeses? Let's wait and see. 8. What can we learn about Roquefort? A. It is produced in many places in France. B. It has been made in modern ways. C. It has a long history. D. It is easy to make. 9. What problem do the sheep face? A. They have been endangered since the 1920s. B They are in danger of being attacked. C They are too expensive to feed. D. They are killed by people. 10. What may happen if farmers fight with the wolves? A. They can't afford to make the cheese. B. They have no time to make the cheese. C. They have no idea how to sell the cheese. D. They can't produce the cheese with high quality. 11. What do people think of the wolves? A. They agree with killing the wolves. B. They support leaving the wolves as they are. C. They are divided on the ways of protecting the wolves. D. They hold different ideas about how to deal with the wolves. D Richard is a very successful businessman. It is common for him to work hard with a non-stop. He wasn’t aware that he might wear himself out or die an early death until he overslept one morning, which was a sort of alarm. And then what happened? He had a week’s leave during which time he read novels, listened to music and walked with his wife on a beach, which has enabled Richard to return to work again. In our modern life, we have lost the rhythm (节奏) between action and rest. Amazingly, within this world there is a universal but silly saying: “I am so busy.” We say this to one another as if our tireless efforts were a talent by nature and an ability to successfully deal with stress. The busier we are, the more important we seem to ourselves and, we imagine, to others. To be unavailable to our friends and family, and to be unable to find time to relax — this has become the model of a successful life. Because we do not rest, we lose our way. We miss the guide telling us where to go, the food providing us with strength, the quiet giving us wisdom. How have we allowed this to happen? I believe it is this: we have forgotten the Sabbath, the day of the week — for followers of some religions — for rest and praying. It is a day when we are not supposed to work, a time when we devote ourselves to enjoying and celebrating what is beautiful. It is a good time to bless our children and loved ones, give thanks, share meals, walk and sleep. It is a time for us to take a rest, to put our work aside. Rest is a spiritual and biological need; however, in our strong ambition to be successful and care for our many responsibilities, we may feel terribly guilty when we take time to rest. The Sabbath gives us permission (许可) to stop work. In fact, “Remember the Sabbath” is more than simply permission to rest; it is a rule to follow. 12. What’s the function of the paragraph 1? A. To tell us that Richard lives an unhealthy life. B. To bring up the topic of the passage. C. To give us a brief introduction of Richard. D. To tell Richard is a successful businessman. 13. According to Paragraph 3, a successful person is one who is believed to ________. A. be able to work without stress B. be more talented than other people C. be more important than anyone else D. be busy working without time to rest 14. Which of the following is a possible activity for the Sabbath according to the passage? A. Taking a short business trip. B. Finishing an urgent work report. C. Having a meal with family members. D. Planning the next week’s work schedule. 15. What is the main idea of this passage? A. We should balance work with rest. B. The Sabbath gives us permission to rest. C It is silly for anyone to say “I am busy.” D. We should be available to our family and friends. For many high school students, it seems that there is never enough time. 根据上文“Math had never been something I was good at since middle school. Classes became harder in high school, and I was even further from a math teacher’s dream student.(从中学起我就不擅长数学。高中的时候,上课变得越来越难了,我离数学老师的梦想学生更远了。)”可知,从中学到高中,作者越来越学不会数学。画线词所在句中的“So”表明上下文为因果关系,作者学不好数学,所以“不喜欢”数学。划线词aversion与dislike意思相近,意为“不喜欢,厌恶”。故选C。 【5题详解】 推理判断题。根据第三段中的“It was clear that Mr. A had a true passion(热情) not only for math but for teaching.(很明显,A老师不仅对数学有着真正的热情,而且对教学也有着真诚的热情。)”和“Mr. A greeted us with that same smile every day. He encouraged each student, from the top achiever to the ‘I can’t’ student.(他鼓励每一个学生,从最优秀的学生到‘我不能’的学生。)” 故选A。 根据第四段中的“My classmates began to do the same, and it became ‘cool’ to have lunch and talk with Mr. A.(我的同学们也开始这样做,和A老师一起吃午饭和聊天变得很‘酷’。)” 根据最后一段中的“Though my story is not one of overnight success and I didn’t become a straight-A math student, my hard work did begin to pay off and my grades slowly began to climb.(虽然我的故事不是一鸣惊人的那种故事,我也没有成为一名数学全优的学生,但我的努力确实开始有了回报,我的成绩也开始慢慢攀升。)” A。 C For many years, scientists and animal lovers have worked to make the world safer for endangered species. Now, there is something that needs protection from these protected animals — a famous French cheese called Roquefort, known as the “King of Cheeses”. Roquefort is made from sheep's milk in the southern part of the French mountains. Farmers have been making Roquefort for thousands of years, and they follow many rules when making it, to be sure that it is done in the traditional way. B. They are in danger of being attacked. C. They are too expensive to feed. C 9. B 10. A 11. 由第二段中的“Farmers have been making Roquefort for thousands of years, and they follow many rules when making it, to be sure that it is done in the traditional way.”(农民们已经做了几千年的Roquefort,他们在制作的时候遵循许多规则,以确保它是以传统的方式进行的。) 由第二段中的“One of the rules is that they must let their sheep live freely in the mountains.”(其中一条规定是,他们必须让他们的羊在山里自由地生活。)和第三段中的“However, following these rules has become very dangerous. Wolves have moved into the area, and they have killed 62 sheep.”(然而,遵循这些规则已经变得非常危险。 由第三段中的“Farmers have dogs to protect the sheep and have also built electric fences, but they say they will not have enough money to continue making Roquefort once they have spent it all on keeping their sheep safe.”(农民们养了狗来保护羊,还建了电围栏,但他们说,一旦他们把所有的钱都花在保护羊的安全上,他们就没有足够的钱继续生产Roquefort。) 故选A项。 由第三段中的“Many people have said that wolves that attack sheep should be killed, since they have become a threat to the farmers' jobs.”(许多人说,攻击绵羊的狼应该被杀死,因为它们已经成为农民工作的威胁。)和第四段中的“Will the people of Southern France be able to find a way that protects both the wolves and the King of Cheeses?”(法国南部的人民能找到一种既能保护狼又能保护奶酪之王的方法吗?) D Richard is a very successful businessman. C. It is silly for anyone to say “I am busy.” D. We should be available to our family and friends. B 13. D 14. C 15.
