①Since the birth of AI robots, many people have been hoping these smart machines would help us with boring chores. Robots on show at the 2024 World Robot Conference showed that tech companies want to make this happen.
②“People are looking for smarter and more humanized robots,” said Meng Yuan, the boss of DEEP Robotics, who joined in the conference. “We don’t want to spend much time giving orders or controlling them. They can do this by themselves.” Meng said.
③Take the company’s robot dog X30, for example. The robot dog can understand its environment and move around without hitting things. The X30 uses built-in cameras and laser radars (激光雷达) to collect information. It then processes (处理) this information, breaking it down into smaller tasks. After deciding on the skills involved in the mission, the robot chooses skills from its skill set to perform these tasks. Developers at DEEP Robotics explained that the robot’s autonomous behaviors (自主行为) and improvement come about through real-life learning and training, not just from remembering “the rules”.
④The X30 has recently become a household name at Zhejiang University, where it is busy helping students carry their heavy bags across the university. Robot dogs like this one are becoming real helpers in our daily lives.
⑤Atribot S1, another humanoid robot, showed its humanization during the conference through its amazing “hands”. Many were shocked to see it skillfully perform Chinese calligraphy (书法) and dulcimer (扬琴). Atribot S1 also learned how to clean the bottom of a teapot with a cloth.
⑥“The fast growth of generative (生成的) AI, such as ChatGPT, will give humanoid robots a real ‘soul’, improving their decision-making abilities,” Ren C. Luo, a professor from Taiwan, said.
⑦However, as Luo pointed out, “the percentage of real application (应用) of generative AI on robots is now less than 5 percent. There is still a lot of room for improvement.”
32. What is the advantage of the smarter robots according to Meng Yuan?
A. Smaller size. B. Less human control.
C. Lower cost. D. More real applications.
33. In what order does the robot dog X30 work?
a. The robot chooses skills from its skill set. b. The robot processes the information.
c. The robot collects information. d. The robot performs the task.
A. abcd B. cbad C. acdb D. cdba
34. What can be inferred about the X30 robot from the passage?
A. It will completely replace human jobs in a short time.
B. It learns through real-life learning and training as well as the rules.
C. It can perform all difficult tasks without human control.
D. It will come up with a better way to carry the bags after doing this more times.

Forum (论坛): Technology and Daily Life
Host: Hello, everyone! Technology has changed our life a lot. Today, Tom, Anna and Jack will talk about how tech helps them in daily life—and how to use it wisely.
Tom (13, Beijing) — E-reader
I got an E-reader last year. It’s small and light, so I can carry it easily. It holds hundreds of books, so I never run out of stories. I get new books online instead of buying paper ones. The screen is kind to eyes, even for long reads. But it needs charging (充电). Once it died mid-story—I learned to charge it on time, so it never stops when I need it.
Jack (13, Hangzhou) — Online Study Apps
I use study apps daily. They have video lessons and practice exercises. Have problems with math? I can turn to them for help. They check homework fast, too. But I set a timer (计时器) now. If I use them too long, I will forget to rest, which will be bad for my eyes. Controlling time lets them help me learn better.
Anna (14, Chengdu) — Smart Watch
My mom bought me a smart watch. It tells time, counts steps, and pushes me to walk more. It reminds me to drink water when I’m busy. Last week, I fell when running, and it messaged Mom quickly. But it needs my phone nearby. I keep them close but don’t check it too often—so it helps, not distracts (分心).
Host: Thanks for sharing. Tech is useful, but it can’t replace (代替) everything. We need to control it properly. That way, it serves us best.

Cheering, dancing and singing, local people and tourists get together around the fire during the Torch Festival (彝族火把节) in Xichang city, Sichuan every year. It is a must-do event for people there. The festival was listed as national intangible cultural heritage(国家非物质文化遗产) in 2011.
There are different stories about how the festival started. They show the admiration (欣赏) of fire from the Yi People. Fire is important since people can use it to make light, keep warm and cook food. One Yi saying also goes, “Everything you eat must be cooked over a fire.” In farming, fire is used to light plants to later fertilize (使肥沃) the land.
The Yi people used to celebrate the festival as a way to drive away all the bad things and ask for a good harvest (丰收). Today it has become a social event. During the festival, people come together to light torches and join in different activities such as bonfire (簧火) building, horse racing, wrestling and bullfighting. Although there are many changes in the society, the Yi people share their joy and thanks for their good life through the festival.
Some other groups also celebrate the torch festival. Take the Naxi for example. They even form different groups to pick flowers and bamboo branches (竹枝) to dress up their torches, For the Oroqen people (鄂伦春族) in Inner Mongolia, it is also a very important festival.
The festival allows tourists to “travel through time” and experience the age-old hunting culture. It is a kind of cultural expression, which shows how closely nature and humans are connected.

⑦However as Luo pointed out, “the percentage of real application (应用) of generative AI on robots is now less than 5 percent.
35. Which of the following shows the structure of this passage?
A. B.
