We stayed at a hotel on the beach. We slept late every morning and then had breakfast outdoors near the pool. When the weather was not too hot, we went sightseeing in the morning. When I was 12 years old I already knew that my teen years were going to be the worst years of my life. I was a total outsider, bullied (欺凌) at school. I felt completely alone in my small town.
But by starting to do volunteer work when I was 14, I turned my problem into a passion for helping others. The opportunity to practice kindness made me feel like my life had a greater purpose. The more positive energy I shared, the more kindness and appreciation I received. I realized that my purpose in life would be to reach out to people, specifically teenagers, and help them feel less alone.
Books were my true friends back then. I was so thankful that the authors wrote those books. The kindness they offered me with their books saved my life. One of my biggest dreams was to become an author so I could write books that would help other teenagers the way those books helped me.
After surviving terrible experiences at school and at home, I made a choice to take the optimistic, positive road in the next steps of my journey. My dream career, one I thought was only possible for the authors I loved, is what I am doing now. I have been a full-time author of teen novels since 2007 and am grateful for this amazing opportunity to reach out to readers every single day.
Kindness saved me when I needed help the most. Even small acts of kindness can change someone’s life. You never know what someone else is going through. But by practicing daily kindness, you become an architect of positive change.

A. He was inspired by his teacher. B. He could pass positive energy to readers.
C. He wanted to share his school experiences. D. He found he had a talent for writing.
27. What does the author suggest readers do in the last paragraph?
A. Say “no” to bullies bravely. B. Make positive changes in their lives.
C. Treat others with kindness in daily life. D. Learn to care more about others’ feelings.

Sports play a key role in the physical and mental development of children. Although it’s great to see a child succeed in one sport, it’s important to keep their activities in balance. Participation in multiple (多种的) sports makes children get the knowledge about many movement skills. In addition to this, here are some other good reasons why kids should be encouraged to play several sorts of sports.
Repetitive movements can overstress growing bodies, which later on can lead to injuries. With multi-sports, each sport works the body a little differently. This will lead to fewer overuse injuries. Also, kids who overspecialize in one sport may end up losing interest and finally give up. Specializing in a sport raises expectations and may put too much pressure on young kids. Having different experiences will keep children interested, and even make them enjoy sports without any pressure.
Multi-sports also allow kids to experience different roles. Being a goalkeeper in a football team is very different from being a point guard in basketball. Playing baseball develops better hand-eye coordination (协调). Soccer develops better footwork. Volleyball develops jumping and hand-eye coordination. Martial arts develop strength and flexibility. Swimming develops full-body coordination and strength. Participation in multiple sports broadens a child’s developmental, social, and situational experience. It opens up opportunities to become a better competitor and promising athlete.
Many famous athletes like Stephen Curry achieved their standing today by playing multiple sports. Curry played basketball but he also played baseball, football, soccer, and so on. What worked for Curry, experts say, could work for most of us.
Besides developing a wide range of sports skills, more importantly, multi-sports provide opportunities for children to discover their liking. With the help of the right coaches, sports become fun, inspiring kids’ interest. So if you can’t decide whether your child should focus on one sport or try some different sports, I hope you can make a better decision now.
32. What will happen to kids if they do one sport repeatedly?
A. They can stay more focused.
B. They can spare more time to study.
C. They can be skilled at the sport early.
D. They can be more likely to get injured.
33. What can we infer about multi-sports from Paragraph 3?
A. They inspire kids’ sporting spirit.
B. They help kids develop their special talents.
C. They have much higher requirements for kids.
D. They help improve kids’ all-round development.
34. What does the author want to express in the last paragraph?
A. Multi-sports help kids find their favorite sports.
B. Sports skills make kids more popular at school.
C. Parents should lower their expectations for kids.
D. Children should turn their interests into professions.
35. What is the text mainly about?
A. How sports benefit kids.
B. What sports kids should try.
C. Why kids should try multi-sports.
D. Why multi-sports are popular today.
D 33. D 34. A 35. C

Soccer develops better footwork... Volleyball develops... Martial arts develop... Swimming develops... Participation in multiple sports broadens a child’s developmental, social, and situational experience. (打棒球能培养更好的手眼协调能力……足球能提升步法技巧……排球能发展……武术能增强……游泳能锻炼……参与多项运动可以拓宽孩子的发展、社交和情境体验)”可以推断出,多项运动有助于孩子全方位的全面发展。故选D。
【34题详解】
推理判断题。根据最后一段中“more importantly, multi-sports provide opportunities for children to discover their liking. (更重要的是,多项运动为孩子们提供了发现自身喜好的机会)”可知,作者在最后一段想表达的是,参与多项运动能帮助孩子们找到他们最喜欢的运动。故选A。
通读全文,尤其是第一段结尾的“here are some other good reasons why kids should be encouraged to play several sorts of sports. (以下是一些其他应该鼓励孩子参与多种体育运动的好理由)”以及后续段落分别从避免运动损伤、保持兴趣、全面发展、发现喜好等方面展开论述,可知本文主要是关于为什么孩子们应该尝试多项运动。故选C。

由上文“It is a big problem that affects lots of kids.(它是一个影响众多孩子的严重问题。)”和下文“Being bullied can make kids feel really bad, and the stress of dealing with it can make them feel sick.(遭受霸凌会让孩子感觉非常糟糕,而应对霸凌所产生的压力还可能让他们身体不适。)” E项“Three-quarters of all kids say they have been bullied or teased.(四分之三的孩子表示他们曾遭受过霸凌或取笑。)”
由下文“Some bullies are looking for attention. They might think bullying is a way to be popular or to get what they want. Most bullies are trying to make themselves feel more important. When they pick on someone else, it can make them feel big and powerful. Some bullies come from families where everyone is angry and shouting all the time.(有些霸凌者是为了博取关注。他们可能觉得,霸凌是让自己受欢迎或得到想要之物的方式。大多数霸凌者都在试图让自己显得更重要:欺负别人时,他们会产生一种自身强大、手握权力的感觉。还有些霸凌者来自这样的家庭 —— 家里人总是怒气冲冲,争吵不断。)”可知,本段围绕“霸凌者为何实施霸凌”展开,空格处需作为主题句点明核心。A项“Why do bullies act that way?(霸凌者为何会有这样的行为?)” 故选A项。
由下文“As much as you can, avoid the bully. You can’t go into hiding or skip class, of course. But if you can take a different route and avoid the mean kid, do so.(尽量避开霸凌者。当然,你不能躲起来或逃课,但如果能换条路避开那个坏孩子,就这么做。)”可知,空格处需概括“避开霸凌者”的核心建议。F项“Don’t give the bully a chance.(别给霸凌者可乘之机。)”符合语境,“Don’t give the bully a chance”呼应下文“avoid the bully”和“take a different route”,作为防霸凌的首要建议,引出具体做法,逻辑清晰。故选F项。
由下文“Make a plan to walk with a friend or two on the way to school, recess, lunch, or wherever you think you might meet the bully.(计划好和一两个朋友一起走路上学、课间休息、吃午饭,或在任何你觉得可能遇到霸凌者的地方。)” D项“Two is better than one if you’re trying to avoid being bullied.(如果想避免被霸凌,两个人总比一个人好。)”符合语境,“Two is better than one”直接点明“结伴”的优势,呼应下文“walk with a friend or two”,衔接紧密。故选D项。

When I was 12 years old, I already knew that my teen years were going to be the worst years of my life.

For travelers wondering if there is a cross-Canada train, you’re in luck. Not only does VIA Rail have a passenger train that travels between Toronto and Vancouver, you can take a connecting train to Montreal before heading to Halifax, making for a complete rail trip across Canada.
A train trip across Canada shows you the wide land and varieties of this vast nation. Watch through a huge picture window as the scene moves from lakes to grasslands, from high mountains to thick rain-forests, before finally arriving at the Pacific Ocean. Sleep in your private comfortable cabin, take in the views from the dome cars (穹顶车厢), and enjoy delicious meals created from regional specialties. There’s no other trip quite like it.
Long before air travel was commonplace, or a network of freeways made road trips possible, Canadians went on tour by train. Crossing the country’s vast land by rail is just as magical now as it was a century ago — perhaps even more so, in this hurry-up world. The pace of getting from A to B offers enough time to relax, meet new friends, taste specific flavor food and wine, and appreciate the vastness of this wide land.
There are many choices for a trans-Canada rail trip. Journey from Toronto to Vancouver on an impressive 13-day adventure or begin in Toronto and arrive on the West Coast in less than a week. No matter what trip you choose, you’ll have a unique chance to discover Canada’s natural beauty and attractive culture.
The local travel experts at Canadian Train Vacations specialize in train travel across Canada. By creating personalized journeys based on conversations with you, we can help you realize your perfect trip.
A They can stay more focused.
B What sports kids should try.
C. Why kids should try multi-sports.
D. Why multi-sports are popular today.
