Is it OK for parents to lie to a child? For example, Linda’s 10-year-old son plays football. He’s not very skilled at it, but he loves it. Yesterday he didn’t play well. When he finished the game, he asked her mother, “Did I play well?” Linda said, “Yes! You’re a great football player!” Her words sparked (触发) a discussion about lying to children.
Amy thinks Linda did a right thing. Sometimes we have to tell while lies that are not harmful. It is necessary to tell while lies in daily life. Linda just wanted to make her son feel good.
But Jason doesn’t think parents should lie to our children. Linda lied to make her son feel better, but she missed a good chance of teaching him a life lesson. People should work hard for what they want. Maybe next time she can say, “No, you didn’t play well today. Great football players practice a lot. Let’s go and practice more.” The truth will make him strong and a good football player.
In my opinion, parents should be honest to their children, but they don’t have to tell the whole truth. Next time when our child asks, “Did I play well?” We can say, “What do you think? Did you give your best?” Then our child can tell us what he thinks. That way, everything we say is true, and we avoid the truth that hurts him.

B. Linda shouldn’t answer his son’s question next time.
C. Linda should tell another white lie to her son next time.
D. Linda should encourage (鼓励) her son to practise more next time.
12. Which opinion would the writer most probably agree with?
A. Parents have to tell the whole truth.
B. Telling lies to children is completely wrong.
C. Parents should always make children feel good.
D. Parents should be honest to their children, but try not to hurt them.
