There were only a few elderly people living in the building. And they were carried out to safety, so no one was hurt. The Geller House was built in 1718 and was used as a hotel for over 150 years. George Washington stayed here in 1782. The Geller family owned the building until the 1930s. Then they sold it to the Mills family. Five years ago, it was made into a building for the old. All the electric wires in the building were checked and most of them were changed then. Several fire departments were called to the scene. When we asked Fire Chief Andrew Barnes how the fire started, he answered that a burning cigarette most likely caused it.

During the lively Paris Olympics, while the spotlight shone on the athletes, a group of unsung heroes worked tirelessly behind the scenes — the Olympic volunteers. This year, out of 300,000 applicants, around 45,000 were chosen as volunteers, with 20 percent coming from nearly 150 countries. These volunteers wore bright green uniforms (制服) to be easily noticed in the purple venues (场馆). They offered help to viewers and media alike, making them an important part of the Olympic experience.
On my first day as a reporter, I met a technical problem with my media system account. Thankfully, Chinese volunteer Guo came to help me out. “I hope to improve my language, communication skills, and problem- solving methods through this event,” said 24-year-old Guo from Wuhan, Central China’s Hubei Province, who was studying wireless communication at the Paris Institute of Digital Technology. As a former professional swimmer, Guo saw this as her chance to take part in the Olympics, though in a different role. Another Chinese volunteer, Yang, faced challenges in managing her job and volunteer duties. Despite giving up her holidays, she felt great pride in contributing to the event.
One of my most memorable experiences was meeting with a French volunteer. When I needed help to find the visitor center, a young man on a scooter (小型摩托车) appeared, like a sort of “Monkey King riding a cloud”, and offered to take me there. After helping me, he expressed his admiration for the Beijing Olympics and his desire to visit China again.
Volunteers like them were seen everywhere — from bus stops to competition venues — offering directions and helping with a smile. When large crowds left the venues after the events, causing overcrowding, some volunteers sat on high chairs with loudspeakers, providing directions to go outside in both English and French with a smile. These amazing volunteers, truly show the Olympic spirit, making the event and Paris shine even brighter.
24. Why might the volunteers wear bright green uniforms?
A. To stand out in the crowd. B. To show love for athletes.
C. To fit in with the venues. D. To stand for their countries.
25. What do we know about Guo?
A. She found it hard to balance her job and volunteer work.
B She both swam and volunteered in the Paris Olympics.
C. She wanted to improve herself through volunteer work.
D. She wasn’t as patient and helpful as the French volunteer.
26. What is the author’s purpose in writing the text?
A. To doubt the organization of the Paris Olympics,
B. To praise the service of Paris Olympic volunteers.
C. To show the meaning of hosting Olympic Games.
D. To provide a detailed schedule of Olympic events.
27. How is the text mainly developed?
A. By listing the benefits of volunteer work.
B. By discussing historical Olympic events.
C. By comparing different views on Olympics.
D. By sharing personal stories and experiences.
【答案】24. A 25. C 26. B 27. D

We all have friends who make us frown when they walk in. We know that within five minutes they will have us completely depressed, and we feel that there is nothing we can do about it. Their lives are desperate, sad, tragic, bored or whatever, and if you have a sympathetic ear, you listen and they are likely to keep coming back to tell you more. Do you know why? It makes them feel better. But you just want to jump out the nearest window, and they leave whistling and smelling the roses.
If you are surrounded by people like this, it may be impossible to get them out of your life because they’re your biggest customer, a relative or your business partner. But whatever else you do, you really do need to draw a line in the sand. If more of the people you mix with are negative than positive, you have a problem, which will only get worse over time and keep you trapped in the cycle of feeling overwhelmed.
I made a very conscious decision a number of years ago about the type of people I would have in my life. I want to be surrounded by energetic, enthusiastic and positive people who are getting on with their lives. I don’t care what they do for a living, how much money they have or who they know. All I care about is their zest for life. These people inspire and motivate me to be the best person I can be; they are supportive of any decision or change that will help me to achieve this goal. If I fail, they are the first people to support me and say at least I gave it a go.
If I listened to the negative people, I wouldn’t do anything, because life is clearly so messed up that there is nothing I can possibly do that would make it any better. There is no malicious intention in these people, and it’s just a reflection of where they are in life at the time. And that is sad, but we all need to decide if we want to be equally sad. I made the decision not to and that was that.
I suggest keeping such people at arm’s length. Some of them won’t like you for it. Be prepared for some bad results, but try it because the pay-off is big. And developing a proper way will make it easier.
28. What is the function of the first paragraph?
A To explain the reason. B. To introduce the topic.
C. To criticize the behavior. D. To analyze the phenomenon.
29. Which of the following does the author agree with?
A. The identity of a person matters when we choose who to mix with.
B. We must stay away from a negative person even if he is our customer.
C. Being negative is a reflection of the state of life negative people are in.
D. The more negative people we stay with the less overwhelmed we will be.
30. What does the underlined word “zest” in Paragraph 3 mean?
A. Doubt. B. Control. C. Expectation. D. Enthusiasm.
31. What is the author likely to talk about in the following paragraph?
A. How to define the pay-off. B. How to ignore the bad results.
C. How to say no to a friend you dislike. D. How to keep a distance from negative people.
【答案】28. B 29. B 30. D 31. D

【31题详解】
推理判断题。根据最后一段“I suggest keeping such people at arm’s length. Some of them won’t like you for it. Be prepared for some bad results, but try it because the pay-off is big. And developing a proper way will make it easier.(我建议与这样的人保持距离。有些人会因此不喜欢你。要为一些不好的结果做好准备,但要尝试,因为回报是巨大的。制定一个合适的方法会让它更容易)”可推知,作者很可能在接下来的段落中谈到如何与消极的人保持距离。故选D。
Some police departments in the United States are experimenting with AI tools to help them produce reports. Police officers who have tried the AI chatbots (聊天机器人) praise the technology as a time-saver. Yet some government lawyers, legal experts, and others have expressed concerns about the AI-produced reports.
Axon, known for its body cameras, has developed a chatbot that uses the same technology as ChatGPT. This AI tool, named Draft One, is being tested by officers like Matt Gilmore from Oklahoma City. He describes the AI chatbot as a “game changer” for police work. In the past, after completing a search, the officer would spend another 30 to 45 minutes writing up a report. “This meaningless work takes me ages!” Matt said. But this time he used AI and the process only took eight seconds. And he described the report as better and more exact than one he could have written himself.
However, Axon's CEO, Rick Smith, also noted legal and ethical (道德的) concerns about the tool. Government lawyers advise the police to be careful with the tool. They want to ensure that police officers are responsible for writing their reports. Prosecutors (检察官) never want to get an officer on the stand who says, “Well, the AI wrote that, I didn't.”
Chatbots that use AI technology are not mistake-free. Sometimes these chatbots can produce false information, which worries Andrew Ferguson, a law professor at American University. “I am concerned that the technology would cause police officers to be sort of less careful with their writing,” he said. A police report is important in determining whether a suspect is guilty or not. However, human-created police reports also have problems, and it is not yet known which kind of report writer, human or AI, is more dependable.
32. What is the main purpose of the article?
A. To explain how AI chatbots work for the police.
B. To encourage the use of AI in police departments.
C. To discuss the advantages and concerns of AI tool in police.
D. To stress the legal and ethical problems of using AI in police reports.
33. According to the passage, what is one advantage of using AI to write police reports?
A. It helps officers to complete a search. B. It avoids the risk of false information.
C. It ensures that reports are always right. D. It frees officers from boring daily tasks.
34. What can we infer about AI technology from Paragraph 4?
A It may make police officers lose their jobs.
B. It may make officers less serious about their reporting.
C. It might make the police more careful with their writing.
D. It can produce reports more reliable than human-written ones.
35. What is the best title for this passage?
A. The Future of AI Chatbots B. AI Chatbots Used in Police Reports
C. The Rise of AI Chatbots D. Police Reports Produced by AI Chatbots

。C选项“制定一个每周计划,每天都来更新它”与空后句子陈述的内容“You can write down test dates, homework, and other important information to remind yourself.(你可以写下考试日期、家庭作业以及其他重要的信息来提醒自己)”完全符合,且符合本段主题。故选C。

【39题详解】
本段需要主题句。由段落中的“Get plenty of rest”、“ Try to eat a healthy diet”及“ taking care of yourself”等表达不难推知,本段要表达的就是重视身体健康、照顾好自己身体,A选项“对你的身体好一点”完全符合本段主题,适合作为主题句。故选A。

Kenneth was born and raised in California. The sun, the beaches, and the friends he’d known since kindergarten were all part of his world. But at the age of 16, everything changed. His parents got new jobs in Ohio, and the family had to move there. It was a difficult decision, as it meant leaving behind everything Kenneth knew and loved.
Along with the move came a new school for Kenneth. He felt upset every time he thought about saying goodbye to his school. He was scared of the change, like the new city, the new school, and the new people he would meet. He didn’t know if he could fit in or if he would be lonely there.
After a long journey across the country, the family arrived and finally settled in Ohio. When it was time to go to his new school, Kenneth’s mind was filled with worries. What if the students were unfriendly and even cold? What if he didn’t make any friends?
The next morning, Kenneth’s parents drove him to school. His heart was beating in his chest as they pulled up to the big brick building. He hugged his mom and dad, took a deep breath, and stepped out of the car. With each step towards the school gate, his anxiety grew. He felt like he was walking into a whole new world.
Kenneth was greeted by a school secretary, who was very friendly. Seeing that Kenneth was nervous and shy, she decided to show Kenneth around the school yard first. Kenneth was led to the modern computer lab, the science lab, and the huge gym with a basketball court where Kenneth imagined trying out for the school team. As they walked around, Kenneth gradually felt the school seemed nice, starting to feel a little better.
Finally, they got to the teaching building and headed for Kenneth’s new classroom, and Kenneth’s heart started racing again. The school secretary led him to the door and gave Kennet h an encouraging smile.
注意:1.续写词数应为150个左右;
2.请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。

As the day went on, Kenneth found that what he had worried was unnecessary.
_________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
【答案】Kenneth took a deep breath and entered the classroom. He noticed that all eyes were on him as he walked in. It was quiet for a moment and he felt his face got hot. Trying to calm himself down, he knew he was supposed to introduce himself. Though his voice was shaky, Kenneth managed to tell them a little about himself. After the introduction, the class clapped and cheered warmly and they seemed happy to have him there, which was quite a surprise and comfort for Kenneth. He became a little less nervous, and he started to feel like maybe he could make friends here.
As the day went on, Kenneth found that what he had worried was unnecessary. The classes were interesting, and the teachers were helpful. During the breaks, he was surrounded by the enthusiastic classmates and they chatted about their interests and had fun together. After school, some of the students invited him to play basketball in the school gym. The day ended up with surprise. Kenneth realized that change wasn’t always bad. It was scary at first, but it had led him to new experiences and friendships. He learned that he was stronger than he thought and that he could adapt to new situations.

B. She both swam and volunteered in the Paris Olympics.
A. To explain the reason.
D. The more negative people we stay with, the less overwhelmed we will be.
33. According to the passage what is one advantage of using AI to write police reports?
A. It helps officers to complete a search. B. It avoids the risk of false information.
C. It ensures that reports are always right. D. It frees officers from boring daily tasks.
34. What can we infer about AI technology from Paragraph 4?
A. It may make police officers lose their jobs.
