Her little brother Tom, who was cleaning the windows, said happily, “But we can decorate the living room after cleaning! Let’s put up balloons to make it more beautiful!”
Their dad nodded, “Good idea! And then we’ll make dumplings together.”

Men and women often do things in different ways. Scientists are curious to know the reasons. Through some research on the human brain, they’ve discovered some interesting facts.
Generally, women’s brains make them notice and remember details (细节) more easily. They are more likely to think back to the smell in a room, the sound of a song, or the little things they see during the day. For example, a woman might easily remember what her friend wore last week. However, men’s brains are more focused on the task at hand. A man will pay more attention to a single (单一的) job until it’s fully finished. He might work on fixing a car without being influenced by other things.
These different thinking patterns also influence how they view their lives. Women usually see all sides of their lives as connected. If they have a bad day at work, it might influence their mood (情绪) at home. However, men usually see each part of their lives, like work, hobbies, and family, as separate (独立的) pieces.
In a team, men and women contribute (贡献) differently. Women are more likely to share ideas and build good relationships among team members. Men, on the other hand, prefer to arrange tasks and make everyone work effectively (有效地).
Although men and women have their differences, both ways of thinking are important. They help us solve different problems and answer all kinds of questions in life.
53.What does the underlined word “curious” mean in Paragraph 1?
A.Interested. B.Happy. C.Surprised.
54.What do men usually do in group tasks?
A.Share their ideas.
B.Hand out tasks and ensure good work.
C.Finish tasks in the least time.
55.What can we infer from the passage?
A.Men’s way of thinking is better than women’s.
B.Women’s way of thinking suits family problems.
C.We need both men’s and women’s ways of thinking to live better.
56.What’s the writer’s purpose (目的) of writing the text?
A.To show men and women are totally different.
B.To show the thinking differences between men and women.
C.To encourage men and women to learn from each other.
【答案】53.A 54.B 55.C 56.B

In 2004, when my daughter Becky was ten, she and my husband, Joe, were united because they wanted a dog, Misty. And they promised to walk her every day.
But from the second day, neither thought to walk the dog again. I was slow to accept that I would be the one to feed and clean her. As she looked up at the three new humans in her life, she calculated, “The middle-aged woman is the stupidest one.”
Quickly, she and I developed something special. She’d look at me with those sad brown eyes of hers, and then wait, trusting I would understand her, which I almost always did.
Even so, part of me continued to hate the walking duty Joe and Becky had promised to carry out. It nearly drove me mad. “Not fair!” I’d loudly remind everyone I knew.
On January 1, 2007, Joe’s doctor said an unthinkable word—leukemia (白血病). With that, I spent eight to ten hours a day with him in the hospital, doing anything and everything I could to ease his discomfort. Every part of my life changed; no part of my old life remained.
Save one—Misty still needed walking. At the beginning, when my friends wanted to help walk her, I refused because I knew they were busy.
As months went by, I began to realize that I actually wanted to walk Misty. The walk in the morning before I headed to the hospital was a quiet, peaceful time to clear my head.
After Joe died in 2009. The truth is, after these years, I’ve come to enjoy my walks with Misty. She reminded me that no matter how hard the present or unpredictable the future, there’s almost always some joy in my life.
57.What can we learn from Paragraphs 3 and 4?
A.The writer always shouted at Misty while walking her.
B.The writer loved Misty, but she didn’t want to walk her.
C.The writer always hoped that Misty could understand her.
D.The writer didn’t want to walk Misty because it cost time.
58.When did the writer’s life start to become different?
A.When Joe fell ill in 2007. B.When Joe died in 2009.
C.When Misty tried to please the writer. D.When the writer began to walk Misty.
59.Why did the writer continue to walk Misty while Joe was in hospital?
A.Because she wanted to do some exercise.
B.Because the walk brought her great peace.
C.Because her friends didn’t want to help her.
D.Because she didn’t want Misty to live with others.
60.What does the writer want to tell the readers in the passage?
A.One should learn to enjoy hard times.
B.A disaster can change everything in life.
C.People will change when they are in difficulty.
D.Moments of joy suggest that there is still hope ahead.

It is healthy to live around trees. Trees work as doctors and they keep us healthy.
Many scientists are studying how trees clean the air. For people in large cities, trees can be very important for their health. These days, cities are planting trees not just in parks. They are also planting trees along streets in order to help clean the air.
Some scientists also believe trees help more than just the air. Trees keep our bodies healthy as well. People in hospitals seem to feel better when they can see trees from their rooms. People with trees near their homes usually take more exercise.
Scientists have studied the healthy effects of trees on our minds. One effect of trees seems to be that they make people feel relaxed. Scientists did some research on city people in an area with few trees. After trees were planted on the street, people walked slower when going home. They said the area was much nicer.
Of course, another good effect is that doctor trees work for free!

“Are you OK, Marilla?”

Lily’s mom sat down beside her and gave her a hug. “Let’s make this home holiday just as special! How about starting by cleaning together? After that, we can cook together,” her mom said.
As they worked, Lily cleaned the floor and said, “This isn’t as fun as traveling. It is so boring.”

Her mom laughed, “Just pinch (捏) the dumpling like this. Practice makes perfect.”

D

“But I want to! Nothing is worse than giving up our home. ”
“But your dreams …”
“My dreams are the same: to be a good teacher and to help you stay healthy. Nobody loves Green Gables as we do. We must keep it. “
Most people, not knowing about Marilla’s eyes, thought Anne was foolish. Mrs Lynde, their neighbour, did not. She often found Anne and Marilla sitting outside their home. They liked sitting there at dusk, when the smell of flowers filled the air.
