The park itself covers an area of around 2,850 square kilometers, making it the sixth largest park of its kind in the country. I recently visited Tarangire to see what it was like. Upon entering the park, one of the first sightings found was a huge group of elephants. Our guide told us that Tarangire was probably the best place in Tanzania to find large groups of elephants, and that their population in the park was around 2,500. We continued to watch the elephants as they stood under trees and scratched themselves against the trees to hit the spot of an itch. To the right of the elephant group, we noticed a big tree! Our guide informed us that this was a baobab tree and that they could live for hundreds of years. Compared with this tree, the elephant just looked like dwarfs (much smaller plants or animals)! We were informed that Tarangire was one of the best national parks in Africa to see so many baobab trees. As we continued our drive through the park, we finally reached a watering hole. Our guide warned us that there were lions all around us. It took us all a while to find them, but there they were! Most of them were resting in the shade under bushes, but there was one that was drinking from the watering hole directly in front of us. We then noticed just to our right, there were a couple of fresh zebra bodies—it seemed as if the lions which were resting had killed them! We were unlucky not to have seen the kill, as our guide had mentioned that the zebra bodies were fresh and the kill had happened within the last hour. Our final big sighting was one that none of us were expecting to see, even our guide! We stopped at a place where there were quite many cars, with a sleeping leopard (豹) there! We took photos and watched its surprising body before returning to our hotel as it was getting late. So, I hope you enjoyed my description of Tarangire, and add this amazing park to your very own Tanzania travel route. 1.Which statement is correct about the park? As a son or daughter, you may also want to make your parents proud. Here are certain suggestions you can follow. Talk to Them as Often as You Can All parents want their children to trust them enough and talk to them when they are happy and when they are feeling down. Therefore, don’t be afraid to call your parents when you feel the weight of the world on your shoulders, just as the same way you would call them when you are happy. Share your achievements, both big and small. Your parents are your biggest cheerleaders (支持者). Have Patience with Them One of the best things you can do for your parents is to be patient with them, which makes them feel loved and appreciated (重视的). As they grow older, you need to understand that they become slower or may do things differently from the way they used to. Therefore be patient with them. Be Helpful If you live at home, you can be a good son or daughter by helping around with housework. Start by making sure that your parents don’t have to clean for you. Keep your room tidy and help to keep other areas of the home clean. Help with washing, making dinner and even setting up the table. Helping around makes sure they have time to rest and do other things. It feels good when they know they have someone who can keep things together at home. 1.What can people talk to their parents about according to Paragraph 2? A.Something happy or sad they’re facing. B.Everything their friends have. C.Only their big achievements. D.Only about something happy. 2.Which behavior (行为) shows the second suggestion? A.Jack often made video calls to his parents. A.experts B.parents C.teachers D.children Mum and Dad are two of the most important people in your life. They’re likely to influence you more than anyone else you will meet. So if your mum loves to read, you might grow up carrying a book wherever you go just as she does. Here are four ways you can stay close and get along well with your parents. Spend time together. It might be easy to be in the same place as your mum or dad. But how much time do you spend just enjoying each other’s company? Instead of playing a computer game or watching TV, you can ask your mum and dad to play with you. You may go outside together, try a board game, or read a book loudly together. Share your feelings and ask for help. Many kids say they’d like their parents to help them when they’re in trouble. But your mum or dad might not know that you’re having a problem. Tell them when you’re sad or having trouble. If you don’t usually do this, it can be strange at first. Try it and you’ll feel better. Be kind. Little things might mean a lot to your mum or dad. You can make your parents happy by giving them a card or telling a joke to them. It’s also lovely when a kid offers to clean up his or her room without being asked. Show your care. It’s important to show that you care about your parents. Kids and parents show their love by respecting each other, kissing and being helpful, polite and kind. 1.What does the writer mean in the last sentence of Paragraph 1? A.Parents tell their kids to bring a book wherever they go. B.Mother teaches their kids to read books. C.Parents have a great influence on their kids. You can ask the guards about the paintings on the walls as they tell you something about his family and life. And don’t worry about the guards as they are really nice and helpful. Next, you can go downstairs to the ground floor. Here you can see his rich collection of paintings. For example, there is a series (系列) of interesting paintings about 18th century life in London. And many of them find that their pain keeps coming back. ________ But scientists believe that doing one simple thing could help: walking. Scientists invited 700 people to take part in a study. Most were women and all of them had recently experienced back pain. The people were put into two groups. One group took part in a walking program and had six meetings with a doctor. People in this group were asked to walk half an hour five days a week, while those in the other group didn’t do anything. The scientists followed up the two groups for three years. The scientists’ findings are surprising. People in the walking group had an average (平均) of 208 days before their back pain recurred, while those in the other group felt the pain again after an average of 112 days. What’s more, people in the walking group also made far fewer visits to the doctor. Why is walking helpful to lower back pain? Scientists are not yet certain of the reasons. But they think it’s probably because walking can get the muscles (肌肉) stronger and improve sleep. As for how to walk, they suggest walking on a flat (平整的) surface. If you’re not a good note taker, or there are “holes” in your notes, then ask a friend if you can copy his or her notes. Good notes can make all the difference when you’re studying. They make difficult points easier to understand and remember. ◆Ask your teacher about the test material. One of the easiest ways to begin your studying is to find out what is on the test directly from your teacher. People also should listen to their bodies, as walking too far or for too long could make the pain worse. 1.Which of the following can be put in “_______” in Paragraph 1? A.Why does this happen? B.How to stop the back pain? C.Have you ever experienced back pain? D.Back pain is quite common and painful. 2.How long were the people in the walking program asked to walk each day? A.5 minutes. People also should listen to their bodies, as walking too far or for too long could make the pain worse.”可知,人们应该控制步行的时间,以免走得太远或太久使疼痛加剧。故选D。 5.最佳标题题。根据全文内容,特别是第一段“But scientists believe that doing one simple thing could help: walking.”以及后文对走路有助于降低背痛发作频率的研究和解释,可知文章主要讲述了走路可能有助于降低背痛,D选项“走路可能降低背痛”符合文章主旨,是最佳标题。故选D。 Preparing for an exam can be stressful, but it doesn’t have to be. There’s no need to stress out or cram (突击准备). By doing a couple of simple things, you will be confident and ready for anything that comes up on the test. ◆Start studying early. If the class material is especially difficult for you, start studying early. Give yourself enough time to truly understand the material, practice it and then review it. Get a full night’s sleep before the exam. Your brain needs time to digest everything you’ve put into it, so start early and you don’t have to stay up all night. ◆Read through your notes that may be on the exam. It will refresh (刷新) your memory of the material and help you remember what you learnt. It will also help you to know all the information in your notes, including where it is located in your notes, so that you know where to find them, and what might be missing from your notes. ◆Get some good notes. Many teachers will provide some guidance on what will and will not be covered on the test. Knowing which material the test will cover can help you focus on the main material that you need to study. 1.What does the underlined word “digest” in Paragraph 3 probably mean? A.Influence.
