Common Sense Media (媒体), a group that helps children, parents and teachers better understand media and technology, did a study. It paid attention to all kinds of activities about media, from old ways like reading and listening to the radio, to new favorites like using social media and video chatting. More than 2,600 teens were surveyed. Here are some truths and myths (荒诞的说法) the study found:
Truth 1: Some teens spend too much time looking at screens.
One in five teens use more than six hours of screen media each day, and 18% of teens are looking at their screens for more than 10 hours a day. Often they watch television on one while chatting with friends on another.
Myth 1: This is the end of reading.
The average(平均的) time young people spend reading, either in print or on a screen, is only 30 minutes a day. However, teens who took the survey say reading is one of their favorite activities.
Truth 2: Boys prefer video games; girls prefer social media.
Among teen boys, 71% enjoy playing video games, twice as many as teen girls. And while more than 25% of teen boys list playing video games as their favorite media activity, only 2% of teen girls do. What’s more, teen girls spend about 40 minutes more each day on social media than boys do.
Myth 2: TV and music have been muscled out (强行逐出).
For teens, TV is still the top media activity. They enjoy it the most and watch it every day. In fact, 47% of teens have TV sets in their bedrooms. For teens, music is the main form of amusement. However, only about a third listen to music on the radio. Most teens listen on their smartphones.
1.What can we learn from Truth 1?
A.Teens prefer to watch TV rather than chat with friends.
B.Teen boys spend more time on screens than teen girls.
C.20% of teens spend more than 6 hours on screens a day.
D.Teens spend too much time chatting with friends online.
2.What percent of teen girls enjoy playing video games?
A.About 2%. B.About 25%. C.About 35%. D.About 70%.
3.What can we learn from Myth 2?
A.TV and music have been muscled out.
B.Most teens hope to have their own smartphones.
C.More than half teens have TV sets in their bedrooms.
D.It’s popular for teens to listen to music on smartphones.

My senior year at Westfield High School was supposed to be the best year of my life. Instead, it turned into a lesson about friendship that I would never forget.
My best friend, Emily, and I had been inseparable since middle school. But as graduation approached, the stress of exams and college applications began to weigh heavily on us. Emily and I became distant. I focused on getting into a top university, while Emily was more interested in enjoying our last year together. Our different goals led to disagreements, and soon enough, we started to argue over the smallest things.
One day, things reached a boiling point. We had a huge fight over a group project. Days turned into weeks, and our friendship seemed beyond repair. We avoided each other at school and stopped sitting together at lunch. Our friends tried to help, but neither of us was willing to make the first move. The silence between us was deafening, and I missed her more than I wanted to admit.
It wasn’t until our English teacher assigned us to work together on a final presentation that we were forced to confront each other. At first, we worked in tense silence. But as we spent more time together, the ice began to melt. One evening, as we were finishing up our project, Emily broke the silence. “I miss you, ” she said softly. “I miss you, too, ” I admitted, feeling a lump in my throat. “I’m sorry for being so hard on you. I just wanted everything to be perfect.” “I’m sorry too,” Emily replied. “I should have been more understanding. We’re both stressed, but we shouldn’t let it ruin our friendship.” We hugged, and at that moment, it felt like a weight had been lifted off my mind.
On the graduation day, we stood side by side, proud of what we had accomplished and grateful to each other. The experience made our bond stronger, and we knew that no matter where life took us, we would always be there for each other.
4.What caused the initial tension between the author and Emily?
A.Conflicts over college applications. B.Differences in academic performances.
C.Different focus about their final year. D.Varied approaches to their group project.
5.What made them restore their friendship?
A.Their friends’ assistance. B.A school teacher’s criticism.
C.Taking a timely break from the quarrel. D.Working on a school project together.
6.How did the author feel after making up with Emily?
A.Annoyed. B.Relieved. C.Stressed. D.Excited.
7.Which of the following suits the story best?
A.A friend is easier lost than found.

C.True friendship can stand the test of disagreements.
D.Friendship, once broken, will never be the same again.

It’s good to share, right? Growing up as kids we are told to share our toys and not to be selfish. We also live in an age when discussing our feelings is encouraged. But with new crazes becoming popular all the time, such as dance challenges and wearing a pillow (枕头) as a dress, the question is: when can sharing become oversharing on social media?
Oversharing has become connected with social media, but isn’t unique to it. Imagine you head to a party and meet someone. Within five minutes they have given away very detailed information about their life. While some of us may try to escape these people, according to marriage expert Carolyn Cole, this form of oversharing could come from a strong desire to get close to someone. A painful developmental story lies behind the behaviour. People share too much because they have been too lonely. But they fail to understand the risks resulting from it.
Dr Christopher Hand, a lecturer in cyberpsychology (网络心理学), says the more details people disclose, the less sympathy (同情) we express when things go wrong. This could be due to a belief that more negative experiences will be attracted if shared more. It seems that sadfishing, the idea of seeking sympathy by oversharing, is generally regarded as negative rather than the cry for help.
However, Dr Hand’s research also seems to suggest that the more we post online, the more socially attractive we become on condition that the posts we share are positive. Even back in 2015, Gwendolyn Seidman PhD, said we should avoid complaining too much and being negative online. We should also avoid showing off, especially about our love lives. It makes sense— if your love lives are going ‘that well’, would you really have time to share a photo with text?
So, how can you know if you are oversharing? Well, why not ask your friends in real life? They would be happy to tell you if your posts about your breakfast or your complaints about your lack of money really are too much.
8.Which of the following is a kind of oversharing?
A.Disclosing personal details quickly at a party. B.Discussing our feelings online.
C.Sharing our toys with kids unselfishly. D.Recording our feelings in the diary.
9.Why do people share too much according to Carolyn Cole?
A.To satisfy their psychological needs. B.To overcome the sense of failure.
C.To show their feeling of sympathy. D.To develop a painful story.
10.What do you know about sadfishing?
A.It is an idea of sharing positive experiences. B.It is generally thought of as a cry for help.
C.It is seen as a positive way to seek help. D.It is intended to attract sympathy.
11.What does the underlined sentence imply in Paragraph 4?
A.People having good love lives are too busy to post online.
B.Sharing photos and texts about love lives makes sense.
C.People won’t have successful love if posting it online.
D.Good love lives shouldn’t be shared on social media.
【答案】8.A 9.A 10.D 11.A

根据第二段中“Oversharing has become connected with social media, but isn’t unique to it. Imagine you head to a party and meet someone. Within five minutes they have given away very detailed information about their life. (过度分享已经与社交媒体联系在一起,但并不是社交媒体独有的现象。想象一下,你去参加一个聚会,遇到了一个人。在五分钟内,他们就透露了自己生活的非常详细的信息)”可知,在派对上快速透露个人详细信息是一种过度分享的行为。故选A项。

Reviving old friendships is extremely beneficial. But according to a new study, we often hesitate (犹豫) to start those reconnections. The study surveyed almost 2,500 participants (参与者). Over 90% of the participants could think of a friend with whom they had lost touch and would like to speak again. However, even when participants expressed wanting to reconnect and were given time to write a message, only about 1/3 sent the message.
The researchers tried to encourage connection by mentioning research showing messages from old friends are often well-received. But this did little to improve the situation — the number of participants who sent messages remained low. The researchers realized they needed to be creative. Their new strategy had one group of participants practice with a warm-up — spending three minutes writing messages to their current (现在的) friends, while another group spent three minutes looking through social media. Then, everyone was asked to send a message to an old friend. The practice task proved successful: 53% of those who “warmed up” sent the message. Only 31% of those in the social media group reached out to an old friend.
Why is this such a problem that we need to warm up to deal with? Over time, old friends can start to feel like strangers, explains researcher Aknin. Our sense of distance and fear of awkwardness make us hesitate. Actually, people will appreciate it more than you expect. Peggy, a psychologist, found that we often underestimate (低估) how much other people appreciate us reaching out.
When people move away, they meet different people and experience different things. That’s what makes running into someone you haven’t seen for a long time so interesting — you might hear about something new and cool. So if you are thinking about reaching out to an old friend, go for it. It’s worth doing. Hesitant? You could start with a warm-up similar to the one in the study. You’d be surprised by how excited people would be to reconnect.
12.What problem was found in most participants in the study?
A.They lost some friends’ contact information.
B.They were unwilling to revive old friendships.
C.They were not certain why to contact old friends.
D.They failed to contact old friends when given a chance.
13.What measure did the researchers take that improved the participants’ behavior?
A.Making them practice contacting friends.
B.Showing them positive examples of reconnection.
C.Letting them follow their friends on social media.
D.Teaching them how to write messages to old friends.
14.How might people feel when being contacted by old friends?
A.Annoyed. B.Thankful. C.Impatient. D.Shocked.
15.Why does the author write the last paragraph?
A.To stress the value of friendships. B.To show the importance of the study.
C.To call on people to contact old friends. D.To encourage people to learn from friends.

根据第二段“Their new strategy had one group of participants practice with a warm-up — spending three minutes writing messages to their current (现在的) friends, while another group spent three minutes looking through social media. Then, everyone was asked to send a message to an old friend. The practice task proved successful: 53% of those who “warmed up” sent the message.(他们的新策略是让一组参与者先热身——花三分钟给他们现在的朋友写信息,而另一组花三分钟浏览社交媒体。然后,每个人都被要求给一位老朋友发个信息。这个练习任务被证明是成功的:53%‘热身’的人发送了信息)”可知,研究人员通过让参与者练习联系朋友来改善他们的行为。故选A。
根据第三段“Actually, people will appreciate it more than you expect. Peggy, a psychologist, found that we often underestimate (低估) how much other people appreciate us reaching out.(事实上,人们会比你想象的更感激你。心理学家佩吉发现,我们经常低估别人对我们主动联系的感激程度)”可知,当老朋友联系时,人们会感到感激。故选B。
15.推理判断题。根据最后一段“When people move away, they meet different people and experience different things. Studies show if you have good friends throughout your life, you will live longer. There is a lot of truth behind the common saying. You must first be one if you want some good friends. Here are some tips you can refer to.
Be real. People are bored with those who are always trying to be someone they are not. People are most comfortable around others who are comfortable in their own skin. 16 Even though you aren’t perfect, the way you handle your strengths and faults with humility (谦逊) and confidence will give other people permission to be real and relaxed with you, as well.
Be honest. Lies always have a way of coming to light. Try to be honest with everyone around you. An honest person is usually reliable, and people tend to make friends with honest ones. Nobody wants to be friends with someone who lies. 17
Be a good listener. 18 In most cases, people need more than good advice. They need someone to listen to them as they talk about their feelings. Ask them what’s going on in their life and how they feel.
Make time for your friends. Time is one of the greatest gifts we have. When we share extra time with friends, we are giving that gift back to them. 19 It takes time. A real friend will take that time.
20 When you see your friends getting into a dangerous situation, or maybe even a harmful relationship, step in timely and protect them from the dangers that come their way.
A.So just be yourself.
B.Choose your friends wisely.
C.Care about your friends.
D.No friendship can develop overnight.
E.Also, friends will tell the truth to each other, even when it’s hard.
F.It is important to maintain boundaries with your friends.
G.Don’t watch television or text while your friends are sharing something with you.

36.which/that 37.with 38.going 39.Unluckily 40.is broken 41.a 42.sadness 43.yourself 44.requires 45.to forget
provide sb. with sth.
故填is broken。
it is wise of sb. to do是固定句型,意为“某人做某事是明智的”,其中it是形式主语,真正的主语是不定式,因此空格处是不定式to forget。故填to forget。

The rain beat violently against the classroom windows as Lily sat there, her gaze fixed on the empty seat beside her. For weeks on end, her best friend Emma had been completely ignoring her calls. Every time they passed each other in the school hallway, Emma would swiftly turn her head away, pretending not to notice Lily at all. This painful situation all started because of a simple misunderstanding.
One day, Lily had borrowed Emma’s most cherished blue pen without asking for permission first. When Emma discovered it in Lily’s desk, she immediately thought that Lily had stolen it. Lily’s chest tightened as she vividly recalled that heated argument.
“You’re just jealous because I’m better at art!” Emma shouted angrily, her face red with frustration, before storming out of the room.
Now, feelings of guilt constantly ate away at Lily. She had tried numerous times to explain that she just wanted to borrow the pen from her, but Emma stubbornly refused to listen. The silence between them felt heavier than the pouring rain outside, like a thick cloud that blocked out all the warmth of their once-close friendship.
After the final school bell rang, Lily waited patiently by Emma’s locker, a carefully written apology letter clutched (抓紧) tightly in her trembling hand. Just then, she spotted Emma’s sketchbook lying on the cold, hard floor, its pages spread open. The top drawing was a beautiful picture of a brilliant sunset over their secret treehouse, a place filled with so many happy memories. The sight of it made Lily’s heart ache. She remembered clearly how they had spent an entire summer afternoon together, laughing and chatting as they created that very scene.
Without thinking twice, she picked up the sketchbook and put it into her bag, planning to return it to Emma later. But as she turned around, Emma suddenly emerged from the stairway. Emma’s eyes widened in surprise and disbelief at the sight of Lily holding her precious sketchbook.

Emma’s eyes were filled with a mix of anger and hurt as she stepped forward. “Not again!” she cried, her voice trembling. “First my pen, now my sketchbook? How could you?” Lily’s heart raced as she quickly pulled the apology letter from her pocket. “Wait, Emma! I found it on the floor. I was going to return it—” she stammered, holding out the letter. Her fingers brushed the sketchbook’s page, revealing their treehouse drawing. Emma paused, her gaze lingering on the memory they once shared.
For a long, uneasy moment, Emma was silent. Then, a tear slipped down her cheek as she took the letter. “I thought you didn’t care anymore,” she whispered. Lily shook her head. “I’m so sorry. I should’ve asked before borrowing your pen.” Emma sighed, her shoulders relaxing. “I overreacted too…” She opened the sketchbook, tracing the treehouse lines. “Remember that sunset?” Lily smiled softly. “How could I forget?” Outside, the rain slowed to a gentle drizzle as they walked home, the weight between them lifted.

B.A friend in need is a friend indeed.
