Hello, everyone. My name is Pablo. I live in a nice neighborhood. However, there are also very poor neighborhoods in the city. Life is terrible for many of the children in these areas. They are homeless. They don’t have enough food and even education. Last year, I came back here in Mexico. I spent one year here as a volunteer with an organization. It has several programs. I volunteered for one program to work at a “home” for street children. Here, they had a place to sleep and three meals daily. The home showed them another way of life. As a volunteer, I helped to prepare meals. I taught them to do sports and enjoy arts. I also helped the children with their homework. These kids could be fun. But their long and difficult time on the streets made them not always “street children”.
At this home, I met two other volunteers — Brian from Canada and Greg from Australia. They were both college students. We became very good friends. Now, we often e-mail each other.
It has been a special year in my life. I learned a lot. So I hope you can also like the volunteer work and learn from it!

根据第二段的内容尤其是“This experience made me unwilling to be honest about my struggles (这次经历让我不愿意诚实地面对我自己的困扰。)”
根据第四段的内容“Then, the pandemic (大流行病) hit. I was too tired to keep up the act, and my students needed support. So, I shared the story about my father’s illness and death to acknowledge that life goes on outside of my classroom. I told my students I knew they might be suffering and wanted them to know that if they came to me needing help, I would understand.(然后,大流行病来袭。我太累了,无法继续表演,而我的学生需要支持。因此,我分享了我父亲患病和去世的故事,以表明课堂之外的生活仍在继续。我告诉我的学生,我知道他们可能正在受苦,并希望他们知道,如果他们来找我寻求帮助,我会理解的。)”及最后一段中的“connecting with students on a deeper level (与学生建立更深层次的联系。)”
根据第五段中的“The response was immediate and powerful. Students became unafraid to share their stories with me. I changed nothing about the way I delivered course material, but student exam scores improved, as did my teaching evaluations (回应是迅速而有力的。学生们不再害怕与我分享他们的故事。我并没有改变授课方式,但学生的考试成绩提高了,我的教学质量评价也有所改善。)”可知,在向学生敞开心扉后,作者发现学生们不再害怕与自己分享他们的故事。在没有改变讲授课程材料的方式下,不但学生的考试成绩提高了,自己的教学评估分数也提高了。由but一词可推断出这一喜人的变化让作者始料未及。故选A项。
综合全文信息,尤其是最后一段“Exposing your imperfections, connecting with students on a deeper level, and creating space for them — and you — to grow will always be challenging, but it is worth it. (袒露自己的不完美,与学生建立更深层次的联系,为他们和自己创造成长的空间,这些事情是具有挑战性的,但也是值得的。)”可知,通过写出自己的故事,作者对于老师们的期待是关注学生的心理健康,为他们提供精神支持。故选B项。
【答案】28. C 29. B 30. D 31. A
根据第一段中“Do you have a suit or dress in the closet that you haven’t worn for years but are unwilling to get rid of? Maybe you say, “I can’t throw that away because I paid good money for it.” If you recognize this in yourself, then you are suffering from commitment to the sunk cost fallacy (谬论).(你的衣柜里有没有一套多年没穿过但又不愿意扔掉的西装或连衣裙?也许你会说:“我不能把它扔掉,因为我花了很多钱买的。”如果你在自己身上发现了这种情况,那你就陷入了‘沉没成本谬误’的执念中。)”可知,作者在文章开头描述了人们拒绝放弃过去的投入这一现象。故选C项。
【29题详解】
细节理解题。根据第二段中“It turned out that 54% chose Michigan despite the reasonable choice being Wisconsin, because they had made a greater initial investment.(结果显示,尽管合理的选择是威斯康星州,但仍有54%的人选择了密歇根州,因为他们最初的投入更大)”可知,54%的参与者选择密歇根州滑雪之旅是因为他们最初的投入更大,他们想减少损失。
根据第三段中“Sunk cost fallacy takes place when we let emotions cloud our decisions. Once we’ve invested in a choice, we feel guilt or regret if we don’t follow through, without realizing that past investments won’t be recovered.(当我们让情绪影响我们的决定时,就会产生沉没成本谬论。一旦我们对一个选择进行了投资,如果我们不坚持到底,我们就会感到内疚或后悔,却没有意识到过去的投资是无法收回的)”可知,当我们从情感上坚持已经做出的投资时,就会出现“沉没成本谬误”。故选D项。
【31题详解】
推理判断题。根据最后一段中“No one can deny the fact that we benefit a lot from perseverance. So our society loves to emphasize perseverance. Never give up! Don’t waste! But only you know the right path for you. Sometimes walking away is the hardest choice of all. You might realize a path you’re on is no longer the right one or never was. That’s a painful realization.(没有人能否认我们从坚持中获益匪浅。所以我们的社会喜欢强调坚持。永不放弃!不要浪费!但只有你知道什么是对的路。有时候,离开是最难的选择。你可能会意识到你所走的路不再是正确的,或者从来都不是正确的。这是一个痛苦的认识)”可知,作者认为虽然坚持有好处,但有时离开才是正确的选择,说明作者对“坚持”持谨慎态度。故选A项。
D 33. B 34. C 35. A
根据第二段中“The findings could stiffen employers’ determination to urge or require their employees to come back to the office.(这一发现可能会stiffen雇主敦促或要求员工返回办公室的决心)”以及前文提到的“virtual pairs came up with significantly fewer ideas, suggesting that something about face-to-face interaction generates more creative ideas(虚拟会议的参与者想出的点子明显更少,这表明面对面的交流能激发更多的创意)”可推知,面对面交流更能激发创意,所以这一发现会让雇主更加坚定让员工返回办公室的决心。
根据第三段中““We ran this experiment based on feedback from companies that it was harder to innovate with remote workers,” said lead researcher Melanie Brucks. “Unlike other forms of virtual communication, like phone calls or e-mail, videoconferencing copies the in-person experience quite well, so I was surprised when we found meaningful differences between in-person and video interactions for idea generation.”(‘我们进行这项实验是基于一些公司的反馈,即远程工作者更难创新。’
根据第五段中“Like most educators, Brucks has primarily taught in the past three years, and she did notice some advantages of the approach as well. Her students were more likely to take turns speaking and her shyer students spoke up more often, rid of the anxiety that comes from addressing a large classroom.(和大多数教育工作者一样,Brucks在过去三年里主要采用线上教学,她也注意到了这种方法的某些优势。她的学生更有可能轮流发言,而她那些害羞的学生也更经常发言,摆脱了面对大教室讲话时的焦虑)”可推知,Brucks的学生更有可能轮流发言,害羞的学生也更经常发言,说明他们从虚拟学习中受益。故选C项。
【35题详解】
主旨大意题。通读全文,结合第一段中“Many people have participated in lots of virtual meetings these years. Some research shows this adjustment might not impact workplace productivity to any great degree. A new study, though, suggests otherwise.(这些年来,许多人参加了许多虚拟会议。一些研究表明,这种调整可能不会对工作效率产生太大影响。然而,一项新的研究却得出了相反的结论)”和最后一段“Virtual teamwork can’t replace face-to-face. Idea selection proficiency (能力) is only valuable if you have strong options to select from, and face-to-face teams are the best means to generate winning options. Perhaps the workplace will find a compromise — a sweet spot in the middle that balances working from both home and office.(远程协作无法取代面对面交流。 故选A项。
C 37. F 38. E 39. A 40. G
上文“Time management is super important for students, but juggling schoolwork, activities, and personal life can be tough. With so many distractions around, it’s easy to put things off and miss deadlines.(时间管理对学生来说非常重要,但兼顾学业、活动和个人生活可能很困难。周围有这么多干扰,很容易拖延事情,错过截止日期)”说明了学生在时间管理上面临的困难。空处和前文为顺接关系,既承认问题存在,又给出解决方案。所以C项“好消息是人工智能工具可以提供帮助。”符合语境,该选项以“好消息”衔接前文的困境,引出后文利用AI改善时间管理的建议。故选C。
【37题详解】
上文“These can help you organize your schedule by sharing class times, reserving study periods, and adding breaks between study sessions.(这些工具可以通过共享上课时间、预留学习时间和在学习间隔中添加休息时间来帮助你安排日程)”说明了智能日程安排工具如何帮助学生安排日程。 “This way”指代前文使用工具规划日程的行为,“focus more on studying”体现了工具的价值。故选F。
上文“Let AI handle repetitive tasks like sorting emails or entering data. Apps like Zapier can link your emails to task lists, keeping everything organized without extra effort, which frees up your mind for more important things and reduces mental stress.(让人工智能来处理一些重复性的任务,比如整理电子邮件或输入数据。像Zapier这样的应用程序可以将你的电子邮件与任务列表链接起来,让一切井井有条,而无需额外努力,这可以让你腾出精力去做更重要的事情,减轻精神压力)”说明了自动化简单任务的好处。空处需要总结自动化任务的整体益处,与前文为因果总结关系。所以E项“通过自动化这些任务,你可以节省时间并保持专注。”符合语境,“automating these tasks”呼应前文 AI 处理重复任务的内容,“save time and stay focused”概括了自动化的核心优势。故选E。
下文“Give your to-do list to an AI assistant like ChatGPT to sort out which tasks are most important and help you avoid feeling overwhelmed. By focusing on what truly matters, you can stay productive and get more done.(把你的待办事项清单交给像ChatGPT这样的人工智能助手,让它帮你找出哪些任务是最重要的,并帮助你避免感到不知所措。通过专注于真正重要的事情,你可以保持高效并完成更多工作)”说明了让人工智能助手帮助你找出最重要的任务,即给任务排序,优先处理重要任务。空处为小标题,需要概括本段的主要内容。所以A项“优先处理你的任务。”符合语境。“Prioritize”直接对应后文“sort out which tasks are most important”的优先级排序行为。故选A。
上文“Set timers and reminders to stay on track and avoid distractions. AI can track your screen time and suggest the best time to take a break.(设置计时器和提醒,以保持正轨并避免分心。人工智能可以跟踪你的屏幕使用时间,并建议最佳的休息时间)”说明了使用人工智能来帮助保持专注和避免分心的方法。空处需要举例说明AI具体如何提醒休息,与前文为举例论证关系,通过具体场景强化AI在保持专注方面的作用。所以G项“例如,它可以提醒你在长时间的学习后做一些伸展运动。”符合语境。“For instance”引出具体例子,“remind you to do some stretches”是对“建议休息”的细节化说明,且“long study session”与前文“screen time”形成场景呼应。故选G。

Hearing that, more rescuers quickly came over. They immediately started digging the snow with all their might, knowing that every second counted. As they dug deeper, they could see the outline of David’s body, which was trapped in the airbag. “We need to be careful not to hurt him,” one rescuer said, who was worried about causing further harm. After what felt like a long time, they finally managed to free David from the snow. He was conscious but weak, and they could see that he had been through a lot.
David was sent to the hospital by ambulance immediately. The doctors there examined him thoroughly and found that he had suffered from frostbite(冻伤) and hypothermia(体温过低), which was what they had expected. “It’s a miracle that he survived,” one doctor said, who was amazed by David’s resilience(适应能力). As David lay in the hospital bed, he thought about the rescuers who had saved his life and the search dog that had found him. He knew that he was lucky to be alive and promised himself that he would never take life for granted again.

“Do we have permission to give your father a tracheotomy (气管切开术)?” I was a college student. My father had fallen into a coma (昏迷) a few weeks earlier and I was responsible for his medical decisions.
The call about the tracheotomy came the night before an exam. After a few hours of restless sleep, I was hardly in a state to take the exam. I told my professor what had happened the previous night and requested an alternative exam date, which was denied. This experience made me unwilling to be honest about my struggles. When I soon had to make the decision to take my father off life support, I told nobody.
Despite that sadness, I was able to make it through my studies and, eight years later, I became a professor myself. As a new teacher, I felt I needed to adopt a tough classroom persona (表面形象) to earn fellow teachers’ respect. My behavior wasn’t unlike that of the professor who had denied me the exam extension years earlier, and it did not reflect my actual character.
Then, the pandemic (大流行病) hit. I was too tired to keep up the act, and my students needed support. So, I shared the story about my father’s illness and death to acknowledge that life goes on outside of my classroom. I told my students I knew they might be suffering and wanted them to know that if they came to me needing help, I would understand.
The response was immediate and powerful. Students became unafraid to share their stories with me. I changed nothing about the way I delivered course material, but student exam scores improved, as did my teaching evaluations. Students could see that although I still pushed them to learn the material, I cared about their well-being and wanted them to succeed.
Exposing your imperfections, connecting with students on a deeper level, and creating space for them — and you — to grow will always be challenging, but it is worth it. I cannot know everything that is going on in every student’s life, but I can always choose sympathy.
24. What effect did the professor’s denial have on the author?
A. He lost confidence in himself.
B. He grew stronger in the face of challenges.
C. He became hesitant to ask for help from others.
D. He learned to be respectful of others’ choices.
25. How did the pandemic change the author’s teaching?
A. He lowered his academic standards.
B. He adopted a tough classroom persona.
C. He stopped pushing his students to learn.
D. He shared his personal stories to bond with students.
26. What did the author think of his students’ reactions in paragraph 5?
A. A nice surprise. B. An anticipated response. C. A brave fight. D. A slow change.
27. What might the author expect teachers to do by writing the text?
A. Set good examples for students. B. Care about students’ mental health.
C. Respect students’ individual differences. D. Focus on innovative teaching methods.
C
Do you have a suit or dress in the closet that you haven’t worn for years but are unwilling to get rid of? Maybe you say, “I can’t throw that away because I paid good money for it.” If you recognize this in yourself, then you are suffering from commitment to the sunk cost fallacy (谬论). It occurs when we feel that we have invested too much to quit. This psychological trap causes us to stick with a plan even if it no longer serves us and the costs clearly outweigh the benefits.
Arkes and Blumer conducted a survey revealing that people are influenced by sunk cost fallacy in their decisions. Participants were asked to imagine a situation where they accidentally booked two ski tickets for the same date, spending $100 on a ski trip to Michigan and $50 on Wisconsin. They were also told the latter would be more enjoyable. It turned out that 54% chose Michigan despite the reasonable choice being Wisconsin, because they had made a greater initial investment.
Sunk cost fallacy takes place when we let emotions cloud our decisions. Once we’ve invested in a choice, we feel guilt or regret if we don’t follow through, without realizing that past investments won’t be recovered. Instead, we base decisions on past costs, ignoring present and future costs and benefits. This may be due to loss aversion (厌恶), where people place more weight on losses than on gains. As a result, our decisions often aim to avoid losses instead of seeking the benefits gained if we let go of the past commitment.
No one can deny the fact that we benefit a lot from perseverance. So our society loves to emphasize perseverance. Never give up! Don’t waste! But only you know the right path for you. Sometimes walking away is the hardest choice of all. You might realize a path you’re on is no longer the right one or never was. That’s a painful realization.
28. What phenomenon does the author describe at the beginning of the text?
A. People benefit from sticking with a plan.
B. People’s consumption view has changed.
C. People refuse to give up the past commitment.
D. People’s clothes are becoming more expensive.
29. Why did 54% of the participants choose the Michigan trip?
A. To appear more reasonable. B. To save more of the loss.
C. To make a greater investment. D. To enjoy more of themselves.
30. When does “sunk cost fallacy” occur?
A. When we don’t follow through our choices.
B. When we attach more importance to potential gains.
C. When we feel it worthwhile to invest in past decisions.
D. When we emotionally stick with investment already made.
31. What is the author’s attitude toward “perseverance”?
A. Cautious. B. Favorable. C. Disapproving. D. Indifferent.
D
Many people have participated in lots of virtual meetings these years. Some research shows this adjustment might not impact workplace productivity to any great degree. A new study, though, suggests otherwise.
In the study, 602 participants were randomly paired and asked to come up with creative uses for a product. They were also randomly selected to work together either in person or virtually. The pairs were then ranked by assessing their total number of ideas, as well as those concepts’ degree of novelty, and asked to submit their best idea. Among the groups, virtual pairs came up with significantly fewer ideas, suggesting that something about face-to-face interaction generates more creative ideas. The findings could stiffen employers’ determination to urge or require their employees to come back to the office.
“We ran this experiment based on feedback from companies that it was harder to innovate with remote workers,” said lead researcher Melanie Brucks. “Unlike other forms of virtual communication, like phone calls or e-mail, videoconferencing copies the in-person experience quite well, so I was surprised when we found meaningful differences between in-person and video interactions for idea generation.”
When random objects were placed in both the virtual and physical rooms, the virtual pairs of participants spent more time looking directly at each other rather than letting their look wander about the room and taking in the entire scene. Eyeing one’s whole environment and noticing the random objects were associated with increased idea generation. On platforms, the screen occupies our interactions. Our look wavers less. “Looking away might come across as rude,” said Brucks, “so we have to look at the screen because that is the defined context of the interaction, the same way we wouldn’t walk to another room while talking to someone in person.”
Like most educators, Brucks has primarily taught in the past three years, and she did notice some advantages of the approach as well. Her students were more likely to take turns speaking and her shyer students spoke up more often, rid of the anxiety that comes from addressing a large classroom. Brucks found that one solution to improving virtual idea generation might be to simply turn off the camera, for her students felt “freer” and more creative when asked to do so. And this may be sound advice for the workplace.
Virtual teamwork can’t replace face-to-face. Idea selection proficiency (能力) is only valuable if you have strong options to select from, and face-to-face teams are the best means to generate winning options. Perhaps the workplace will find a compromise — a sweet spot in the middle that balances working from both home and office.
32. What does the underlined word “stiffen” in Paragraph 2 most probably mean?
A. Shake. B. Revise. C. Challenge. D. Strengthen.
33. At first, lead researcher Melanie Brucks might think that ______.
A. creative ideas may emerge from casual thoughts
B. the feedback from companies seems questionable
C. participants should make eye contact in an online meeting
D. videoconferencing can’t compare with in-person communication
34. What can we learn about Brucks’ class?
A. Her students relieve anxiety by speaking up.
B. Her students progressed in focusing attention.
C. Her students benefited from virtual learning.
D. Her students displayed talent for public speaking.
35. Which of the following would be the best title for the passage?
A. Brainstorming Online Limits Creativity
B. Grouping Randomly Increases Productivity
C. Maintaining Teamwork Improves Idea Generation
D. Interacting Virtually Impacts Working Participation

David Souza, a snowmobiler in Colorado’s Vail Pass Recreation Area, was lucky to be alive after being buried in a snowslide for over an hour. Thanks to the rapid response of the Summit County Rescue Group (SCRG) and their skilled search dogs, the man was found aware and breathing — an amazing survival story.
At 12:11 pm on February 17, two men were snowmobiling in the Shrine Bowl area when they accidentally caused a snowslide. David was completely buried, and his friend called 911 at once and began searching for him.
The snowslide, thought at 150 meters wide and 100 meters long, occurred during a “high” snowslide risk day (rated 4 out of 5) by the Colorado Avalanche Information Center following heavy storms.
SCRG responded quickly, organizing four dog teams and 27 rescuers. Additional support came from the Rapid Avalanche Deployment team, the Summit County Sheriff’s Office, and snowslide specialists from Copper Mountain Ski Area. However, bad winter conditions prevented a Flight for Life helicopter from approaching.
Snowslide experts warned that survival rates would drop sharply after just 15 minutes under the snow, making the rescue effort a race against time.
Time seemed to fly away without being noticed. Buried under the snow, David huddled (蜷缩) in his airbag that became smaller and smaller under the pressure of snow. Each breath was a struggle against the biting cold, and he felt he could hardly wait any longer. Still, he didn’t give up hope, telling himself to hold on in a low voice.
Above ground, a search dog named Lightning suddenly cried wildly at a snowbank, excitedly scratching at the snow. Noticing that, a rescuer came with doubt in his mind, only to see a small piece of bright-color cloth sticking out of the snow. It was 1:13 pm — about an hour after the burial, just when all seemed lost. He pulled it and realized it was part of the man’s air-filled snowslide airbag. "We’ve got something!" the rescuer called out loudly.
注意:1.续写词数应为150个左右;
Hearing that, more rescuers quickly came over.

However, there are also very poor neighborhoods in the city. Life is terrible for many of the children in these areas. They are homeless. They don't have enough food and even education. Last year I came back here in mexico. I spent one year here as a volunteer with an organization. IT has several programs. I've volunteered for one program to work at a home for three children here. They had a place to sleep and three meals daily. The home showed them another way of life. As a volunteer, I helped to prepare meals. I taught them to do sports and enjoy arts. I also helped the children with their homework. These kids could be fun, but their long and difficult time on the streets made them not always sweet children. At this home, I met two other volunteers, brian from canada and greg from australia. They were both college students. We became very good friends. Now we often detail each other. IT has been a special year in my life. I learned a lot, so I hope you can also like the volunteer work and learn from IT. Hello everyone, my name is pablo. I live in a nice neighborhood.
