C Confucianism (儒家思想) has been followed by Chinese people for more than two thousand years. To help people understand how to behave towards others, Confucianism teaches the Five Constants (五常). These are ren, yi, li, zhi and xin. They are general virtues (美德) around the world. The most important two are ren and li. Ren is the feeling of care and love we should have for others. Confucius explained ren could best be understood as loving others. He is famous for teaching people “What you do not want done to yourself, do not do to others”. It is quite similar to what is known in the West as the Golden Rule (treat others as you wish to be treated). While the meaning of ren is easy to understand, li is a little harder to express. It can be thought of as duty or even respect. Generally, li is the way we should connect with people in our everyday life. In Confucian writings, discussions about li include the proper way to drink tea and how to remember ancestors (祖先). While ren is mostly about our opinions and feelings, li is about how we express our opinions and feelings towards others and towards the world around us. Perhaps the most well-known Confucian virtue is xiao. This is the duty children have to their parents. Xiao means loving, respecting, obeying and taking care of one’s parents in their old age. In Confucianism, xiao is important for a harmonious (和谐的) society: without it, the whole world would fall into a mess. 31.What is the best Chinese for the underlined sentence in Paragraph 3? D.Its golden rules. D How far can bees travel to collect food? Scientists at Penn State University used an unusual method to track (追踪) honey bees. The work helps scientists learn more about how bees collect food and how far they travel. Researchers used simple codes called “AprilTags”, which are similar to QR codes (二维码). These codes are easy for cameras to track and work out, even when the lighting isn’t good. Over the spring and summer, the scientists marked over 32,000 young bees spread across six different hives (蜂巢). By placing a solar-powered camera and a tiny computer above the entrance to a hive, the researchers could track the movements of the each marked bee. The new system (系统) gave the researchers a lot of information about the bees’ movements. They found that most trips outside the hive took 1 to 4 minutes. The scientists think these short trips were used for quick jobs like checking the weather. Most trips, even longer ones, were shorter than 20 minutes. But about 34% of the bees took trips that lasted longer than two hours. The scientists say this could show that the bees were making longer trips to collect food. The researchers noticed that the bees spent more time out collecting when there were fewer flowers around. The scientists were surprised by how long the bees lived. Before the study, scientists thought honey bees lived for about 28 days. But the marked bees didn’t start collecting food until they were around two weeks old. And the researchers discovered that the bees continued to collect food for six weeks after that. Scientists know that bees use a special “waggle dance” to communicate with each other about where to collect food. Now the researchers want to see how their new tracking information matches up with these special movements. They plan to teach beekeepers and other scientists how to use their tracking system. 34.What does Paragraph 2 mainly tell us? A.The reason for studying honey bees. B.The way to track honey bees. C.The living habits of honey bees. D.The place of collecting food. 35.What can we infer about bees when there are fewer flowers around? A.They need longer sleep. B.They may be dead soon. C.They work harder to find food. D.They fight with other insects. 36.Why were the scientists surprised at the findings in Paragraph 4? A.Because bees stopped collecting food after 28 days. B.Because most of the bees took trips for 2 hours. C.Because bees lived longer than they had thought. D.Because bees flew far away to check the weather. 37.What will researches do next in the last paragraph? A.Put off the research on bees. B.Study the dance of other insects. C.Teach other scientists the system. D.Change ways of tracking bees. 四、词汇运用(本大题共10小题,每小题1分,共10分) 38. Thank you for giving me some useful ________ (建议). They’re of great value to me. 39. While Shiny’s great grandfather fell asleep during the race, Smily’s great grandfather won the race by slowly walking towards the finishing line. Smily said, “If your great grandfather didn’t go to sleep, my great granddad might never win. So his win was not a real win.” The next day there was a notice in the jungle(丛林)newspaper. It said that there would be a race and the winner would win many prizes. The race started from the bear’s house. From there, the runners had to cross the river. But most of the animals could not both run fast and swim fast. So they didn’t know what to do. Shiny and Smily made a plan. Shiny ran, while smily was sitting on his back. He and other animals, like the deer, reached the river side at the same time. But they saw the swift(湍急的)water and stood there because they were worried. None of them liked the idea of crossing the river. Smily quickly got into the water and Shiny sat on his back. Smily started swimming. Soon they reached the other side of the river. Shiny got down from Smily’s back and Smily climbed on Shiny’s back again. Shiny ran fast.
