When I woke up on Aug 4, 2022, there was only one thing on my mind: what to wear. A billion thoughts appeared through my brain in the closet(衣橱). Not only was it my first day of high school, but it was my first day of school in a new state; first impressions are everything, and it was important for me to impress the people who I would spend the next four years with.
After carefully hunting my closet, I proudly came out in a dress from Target. The soft cotton was comfortable, and the specially designed shoulders added a little of fun. Yes, this cloth was the one. An hour later, I felt powerful as I headed toward room 1136. But as I entered class, my jaw(下巴)dropped to the floor.
Sitting at her desk was Mrs Hutfilz, my English teacher, wearing exactly the same dress as me. I kept my head down and tiptoed(踮着脚尖)to my seat. I made it through my simple introduction speech until Mrs Hutfilz stood up, jokingly saying that she liked my style. Although this was the moment I had been afraid of from the moment I walked in, all my anxiety surprisingly melted away, and the students paid attention as I shared my story. My smile grew as I laughed with the students. After class, I stayed behind, talked to Mrs Hutfilz and made a humorous and real communication.
Looking back four years later, the ten minutes I spent afraid of giving my speech were really not worth it. My first period of high school certainly made the day unforgettable in the best way and taught me that Mrs Hutfilz has a brilliant sense of style!

“Your playful days are over,” my brother said to me when he knew I was going to be a Senior One student. Then he continued telling me that senior school life was boring because I had to do a large amount of homework every day. The subjects were much more difficult than those of junior school.
I stepped into the school gate with a nervous heart. However, I was surprised to find what I experienced there was completely different from what my brother had told me.
The teachers gave excellent lessons in their own special way. They talked with me in a natural and fair way, as if I was an adult. All of them are so knowledgeable (学识渊博) and they not only explained the contents of textbooks but also provided extra information from other sources. Every word they said in classes made me so excited and interested that I had a strong desire to take in as much as I could.
In fact, my playful days were not over at all in senior school. There were many kinds of activities I could take part in. For example, sports meetings, the art festival, English corner, outing and so on. Best of all, generally, students organized the activities rather than teachers. Through this process, I improved my leadership abilities and communication skills. I’ve become mature (成熟的). I am not a kid any more.
Now if anyone asks me: “Through your process of growing up, which part is most impressive up till now?” Well, the answer will absolutely be my “senior high school life”.

D. Beautiful and kind-hearted.
10. What has the writer learned by joining in different after-class activities?
A. Leadership and social skills.
B. The understanding of textbooks.
C. Reading and writing skills.
D. Doing housework.
11. What can you learn from the last paragraph?
A. His senior school life is the most memorable.
B. Senior school life was boring and tiring.
C. He will no longer believe in his brother.
D. The writer did well in all his subjects.
D
Every year around August, millions of teens take their parents to stores to buy new clothes for the start of the school year. Not every parent can afford this, and some teens are forced to go to school in the same clothes they wore last year. The obvious differences in clothes cause differences among students. There is a simple solution to this problem: school uniforms (校服).
I know from personal experience and surveys that wearing uniforms creates a sense of equality among peers (同龄人).
From sixth grade until I graduated from senior high school, I attended a school that required students to wear uniforms. The uniform was very simple: dark brown shoes, green-brown pants, and a white shirt. The uniform left little room for any kind of self-expression, especially through clothes.
However, I learned how to stand out by expressing myself through my personality, art, and sports. I did not know I could draw until the sixth grade. I also would never have learned of my musical abilities if it hadn’t been for my desire to find ways to express myself. Uniforms taught me that I was myself, except what I wore.
Uniforms also contribute to a much safer learning environment. I remember a particular event that happened in my junior high school. A man ran away from prison and wanted to hide in the gym of our school. Luckily, cameras all over the school quickly found the stranger before any danger could ever happen as he was out of place. School officials kept the man locked inside our gym until the police came to take him back to prison.
Uniforms help provide a better educational experience for all students no matter what race, culture, or economic class In closing, wearing uniforms is good for both schools and students.
12. How does the author introduce the topic?
A. By explaining a basic rule. B. By challenging others’ views.
C. By describing a common problem. D. By sharing his parents’ experience.
13. Which of the following could the author agree with?
A. Uniforms are bad for self-development. B. Uniforms should be more modern.
C. Uniforms can help shape better students. D. Uniforms are popular with students.
14. What do the underlined words “out of place” in Paragraph 5 probably mean?
A. Standing straight. B. Running fast. C. Breathing heavily. D. Dressing differently.
15. What is the author’s purpose in writing the text?
A. To introduce high school uniforms. B. To record his high school life.
C. To show his supportive view towards uniforms. D. To ask students to like what they wear.

“Your playful days are over,” my brother said to me when he knew I was going to be a Senior One student. Then he continued telling me that senior school life was boring because I had to do a large amount of homework every day. The subjects were much more difficult than those of junior school.
I stepped into the school gate with a nervous heart. However I was surprised to find what I experienced there was completely different from what my brother had told me.

C 13. C 14. D 15. C
根据第一段“Every year around August, millions of teens take their parents to stores to buy new clothes for the start of the school year. Not every parent can afford this, and some teens are forced to go to school in the same clothes they wore last year. The obvious differences in clothes cause differences among students. There is a simple solution to this problem: school uniforms (校服).(每年8月左右,数以百万计的青少年带着父母去商店为新学年的开始购买新衣服。并不是每个家长都能负担得起,一些青少年被迫穿着去年穿的衣服去上学。衣着的明显差异造成了学生之间的差异。这个问题有一个简单的解决办法;校服。)”可知,作者是通过描写一个普遍问题而引出主题——校服。故选C。
【13题详解】
推理判断题。根据第二段“I know from personal experience and surveys that wearing uniforms creates a sense of equality among peers (同龄人).(我从个人经验和调查中得知,穿制服在同龄人中创造了一种平等感。)”和第四段“Uniforms taught me that I was myself, except what I wore. (校服让我知道我就是我自己,除了我的穿着。)”、第五段“Uniforms also contribute to a much safer learning environment.(校服还有助于营造更安全的学习环境。)”和最后一段“Uniforms help provide a better educational experience for all students no matter what race, culture, or economic class (经济阶层).(校服有助于为所有学生提供更好的教育体验,无论什么种族、文化或经济阶层。)”
根据倒数第二段中“Uniforms also contribute to a much safer learning environment.(校服还有助于营造更安全的学习环境)”和“A man ran away from prison and wanted to hide in the gym of our school.(一个人从监狱里跑出来,想藏在我们学校的体育馆里。)”
根据最后一段“In closing, wearing uniforms is good for both schools and students.(总之,穿校服对学校和学生都有好处。)”

However, unfortunately, all she had done was in vain.
One day, Emily’s teacher, Ms. Johnson, noticed her attitude and decided to help her regain her confidence. She said to Emily, “No one is born confident and strong. You have to make a change, so take the first step forward.” She encouraged Emily to participate in classroom activities and group projects. At first, Emily was hesitant, fearing that she would embarrass herself in front of her classmates. But with gentle encouragement and support from Ms. Johnson, she slowly started to overcome her fears. So she started to open up and take action to be better.
Ms. Johnson also noticed that Emily had a talent for writing. She suggested that Emily join the school newspaper team. Emily felt nervous about contributing her work, but the positive feedback from her peers and teachers improved her confidence. She saw that her unique views were value d by others. She started writing some essays to show everyone the desire for beauty in her heart. And the readers were amazed by her writings.
As Emily gained more confidence in her writing, she decided to take on new challenges. She joined the debate team, despite her fear of public speaking. With regular practice and guidance from her teammates, Emily gradually overcame her stage fright and found her voice in expressing her opinions. Obviously, she was successful in her speeches as well.
Outside of school, Emily discovered her passion for community service. She started volunteering at a local animal shelter, where she was able to make a positive impact on the lives of abandoned pets.
