However, I decided to 48 one more person to my list, the lady I met every morning walking to work as I drove down the street. She always managed a sweet smile and a hearty wave (挥手), 49 I had no idea which house she lived in. My gift idea was to make small 50 baskets and leave them on each of my neighbour’s front porches (门廊) the night of Christmas Eve. I kept the last one for the friendly lady, since I was still not exactly sure where she lived— 51 the house down about where I met her each morning. Finally I decided to put it there. My neighbours really enjoyed the baskets and a couple even came by to 52 me. This morning on my way to work, I placed my mail in the mailbox and noticed a Thank You card. I opened it and read the 53 which really caught me by surprise. The card said, “Thank you for those lovely apples and strawberries you left on the porch of Tod. He 54 on January 19, but he never stopped talking about how nice it was that someone 55 him in his time of illness. He really enjoyed it.” I was very 56 . I had no idea who Tod was or that he had been seriously 57 . I had left that nice lady’s basket on Tod’s porch by accident. I believe that Tod never expected to have that basket. One third of a person’s life is spent sleeping, so sleep is a very important topic. How much do you know about sleep?Do you know what kind of relationship there is between sleep and memory? In psychology, memory is learning that has continued over time. Memory is divided into three stages, one is sensory memory, one is short-term memory, and the other is long-term memory. Long-term memory is divided into situational memory (语义记忆), and procedural memory related to “how to do”. After understanding memory, what is a sleep stage? Sleep is divided into several different stages as follows, the first stage is just getting ready for sleep, then gently falling asleep, then we go into the deep sleep stage, and finally the rapid eye movement stage. You might think that your brain rests when you sleep, but that’s not the case. In fact, our brain is working very hard when we are sleeping. There are different forms of brain waves that match different stages of sleep. When we are just about to get ready for sleep, our brain waves go into a steady (稳定的) and rhythmic state, the brain waves will become slower. This stage is very important for our long-term memory. Besides, it’s good for getting rid of tiredness (免疫力) against disease. Finally in the rapid eye movement stage, this is when we are often dreaming. Why do we sleep? Two very important reasons are that sleep can be very helpful in our health, reducing stress, and that during sleep the brain cleans up waste in the brain and then helps to make those new memories form long-term memories. So when we don’t get enough sleep, we have mood swings, overeating and other problems. Obviously, having a goodnight’s sleep is important for our memory. 68.Why do the writer use the questions in the first paragraph? A.To get readers’ answers. B.To introduce the topic. C.To show the writer’s interest. D.To give readers’ suggestions. 69.The second and third paragraphs are about ________. In recent years, scientists have done research about the feelings of cows, frogs and pandas. ________ It says that humans can tell whether a chicken is happy or sad by listening to its calls. The researchers put a bowl behind a door. Inside the bowl, sometimes, there was something chickens love to eat, such as rice or insects. Sometimes, there was nothing. When the chickens saw food behind the door, they seemed happy and produced fast and loud sounds, known as food calls. When there wasn’t food, the chickens made low and long noises to express disappointment. The researchers recorded all these sounds and studied their waves. Then the researchers chose 16 recordings of such chicken noises. Half were from the chickens seeing the food and half were from the chickens finding no food. The recordings were played to 194 volunteers. Sixty-nine percent of the volunteers correctly understood whether the chickens were feeling happy or not, and some of them even had no experience of taking care of chickens. The result shows that humans have the natural ability to understand the feelings of chickens. Hopefully, this finding can bring about new technology to help with chicken-raising, a big industry in many countries. Some scientists are already working on a smart computer program that can identify chickens’ feelings. This is good news for farmers who want to make the birds happier and healthier. 72.Which of the following can be put in “________” in Paragraph 1? A.Humans may not like animals. B.A new study adds chickens to the list. C.Nobody knows why this happens. D.Scientists know nothing about it. 73.Which is most probably the sound wave of a happy call by a chicken? A. B. C. D. 74.What does the underlined word “identify” mean in Paragraph 4? A.Control. B.Hide. C.Recognize. D.Hurt. 75.What is the best title for the passage? It’s one of the most popular fashion trends for 2023. First created by US fashion psychologist Dawnn Karen in her book Dress Your Best Life in 2020, dopamine dressing—to put it simply—is dressing for joy. Through brightness and purity of colors, the dressing is aimed to create joyful emotions for people. Science showed long ago that different colors can affect people. They could make us feel warmer or cooler and also affect our feelings. For example, bright colors can make people feel lively. Colors like black, white and grey may bring a sense of sadness instead. Learning how colors work, fashion brands have also used colors in different ways. For example, Versace, an Italian brand, added the idea of dopamine dressing to their clothes in 2021. It said: “This can spread fun and positive energy to the world through fashion.” In the last few years, the pandemic has put everything into question. “Usually, we’re dressing for external factors—the weather, other people and special events. During the pandemic, there was a change. Since no one was around to tell you what to wear, you let yourself find styles that make yourself happy,” Karen told TODAY. Now, many people take this style to fight back bad feelings and show themselves. “I’ve seen people who are very shy put on colorful clothes and become ... free,” Karen said. “Their whole mood changes when they wear clothes that show who they really are.” 81.When did the phrase “dopamine dressing” first appear? 82.How does dopamine dressing make people happy? 83.What colors should you avoid if you are sad? 84.Why did Versace add dopamine dressing to their clothes in 2021? 85.What do you think of the dopamine dressing style? 【答案】81.In 2020. 82.Through brightness and purity of colors. 83.Black, white and grey. 84.To spread fun and positive energy. 85.It is wonderful/creative. 【导语】本文主要介绍了“多巴胺着装”的时尚趋势。 81.根据“First created by US fashion psychologist Dawnn Karen in her book Dress Your Best Life in 2020, dopamine dressing...”可知,美国时尚心理学家道恩·卡伦在2020年她的书《打扮你最好的生活》中首次提出多巴胺着装。故填In 2020. 82.根据“Through brightness and purity of colors, the dressing is aimed to create joyful emotions for people.”可知,通过色彩的明亮和纯净,多巴胺服装给人以愉快的感觉。故填Through brightness and purity of colors. 83.根据“Colors like black, white and grey may bring a sense of sadness instead.”可知,像黑色、白色和灰色这样的颜色可能会让人难过,所以伤心时应尽量避免穿这些颜色。故填Black, white and grey. 84.根据“This can spread fun and positive energy to the world through fashion.”可知,这个品牌是为了通过时尚向世界传播乐趣和正能量。故填To spread fun and positive energy. 85.开放性试题,言之有理即可。根据最后一段内容可知,这里介绍了多巴胺服装能让人有更好的情绪,能让人变得更加自由,因此多巴胺服装是精彩的或者有创意的。故填It is wonderful/creative. 3 (24-25九年级上·江苏扬州·期中)请认真阅读下面短文,用英语回答短文后的问题。(每题答案字数不超过10个字) Mark Twain once said everybody talks about the weather, but no one does anything about it. This was true in his day. But it may not be the case in today’s world. In fact, humans have found many different ways to control the weather. Cloud seeding (云催化) is a kind of technology that can control rain. It is done by spreading chemicals, like dry ice or silver iodide (碘化银) inside of clouds, either by rocket or airline. This changes the amount of water inside the cloud, which helps to control the amount of rain, the time when it rains and even where it rains. This technology has helped to solve droughts. It has also played a key role during important events. For example, China used cloud seeding in Beijing just before the 2018 Olympic Games in order to stop rain from falling during the event. However, scientists are still debating how to use this technology. On one hand, it is believed that it might have side effects. For example, silver iodide may be bad for the environment. On the other hand, no two clouds are the same so every new experiment introduces new conditions. In addition to controlling rain, scientists have also tried to find ways to weaken storms and hurricanes (飓风). Scientists at the US National Hurricane Centre Headquarters think it might be possible to control hurricanes by using lasers (激光). Others believe that burning petroleum (石油) in a hurricane’s path could slow the storms down. 86.Can people control the weather in some ways now? 87.What is cloud seeding? 88.How many aspects (方面) can the amount of water inside the cloud influence? 89.Why are scientists still debating how to use Cloud Seeding? 90.Do you think humans should control the weather? Why or why not? 【答案】86.Yes, they can. 87.It’s a kind of technology that can control rain. 88.3/Three. 89.Because it might have side effects./Every new experiment introduces new conditions. 90.Yes. Because humans can reduce natural disasters. 【导语】本文是一篇说明文。文章讲述了一种可以控制降雨的技术——云催化,及其利弊。 86.根据“In fact, humans have found many different ways to control the weather.”可知,人类是可以用不同的方法控制天气的,因此答案是肯定的。故填Yes, they can. 87.根据文中“Cloud seeding (云催化) is a kind of technology that can control rain. ”可知,云催化是一种可以控制降雨的技术,故填It’s a kind of technology that can control rain. 88.根据“ This changes the amount of water inside the cloud, which helps to control the amount of rain, the time when it rains and even where it rains.”可知,这有助于控制降雨量、降雨时间甚至降雨地点,一共是三个方面。故填3/Three. 89.根据文中“On one hand, it is believed that it might have side effects...On the other hand, no two clouds are the same so every new experiment introduces new conditions.”可知,这项技术可能会有副作用,另一方面,没有两朵云是相同的,所以每一个新的实验都会引入新的条件,故填Because it might have side effects./Every new experiment introduces new conditions. 90.开放性作答,结合实际,言之有理即可。因为人类可以通过控制天气来减少自然灾害。参考答案为Yes. By the next morning, the hole was deeper but now the sides of the tunnel were narrowing. We worked harder. The hole grew deeper, but the air in the Nautilus was very bad. Then, the captain had a new idea. He heated water and pumped it into the hole. This stopped the sides from narrowing, and the men worked as quickly as they could to dig the hole deeper. It was a terrible night. We had so little air that everybody had a headache. We could hardly breathe. Then, the captain drove the Nautilus into the hole. The ice was broken. Suddenly, the Nautilus was free. It sped quickly northwards still under the ice. We still had no air. My face was purple, and my lips were blue. I could not breathe. I could not see or hear. I was going to die! Ned and Conseil found some air in one of the diving tanks. They gave it to me. After the Nautilus broke the ice, air rushed into the submarine and we could breathe again. Ned, Conseil, and I rushed onto the deck. We breathed and breathed, and I thanked my friends for saving me with the air in the tanks. The Nautilus continued sailing north for several days. We were heading back to the Atlantic. Ned was more determined (决心) than ever to run away, but we did not know our destination. The captain did not appear for many days. We saw Tierra del Fuego and the Falkland Islands. We sailed up the coast of South America, past the mouth of the Amazon, and across the equator. In all this time we did not see the captain. Since I came to my new neighbourhood, I have had the pleasure of meeting a few neighbours. They seem to be quite 46 people. For Christmas, I thought I would do something nice for each of the neighbours that I know. I sat down and 47 . There were nine neighbours, and I also knew which houses they lived in. I feel 58 that the nice lady did not get a basket from me this Christmas, but I believe that if she knew what had happened, she would 59 me. A.3 stages of memory and 3 stages of sleep B.relationship between memory and sleep C.3 stages of memory and 4 stages of sleep D.long-term memory and stages of sleep 70.Which of the following is TRUE according to the passage? A.Our brain is in the state (状态) of working when we are sleeping. B.The brain waves becomes slower when we get ready for sleep. C.We’ll lose our memory and get angry easily with enough sleep. D.The deep sleep stage is only important for our long-term memory. 71.After the last paragraph, the writer may write about “_________”. A.Why sleep is important to us B.How we have a good memory C.When we can go to bed D.How we have a goodnight’s sleep 4 (24-25九年级上·江苏扬州·期中)People know animals do have feelings, but they are not sure if these feelings are correctly understood. 4 (24-25九年级上·江苏扬州·期中)阅读短文,回答下面5个问题。(词数不限) We were trapped (困住) in the ice. We worked hard. By the next morning, the hole was deeper but now the sides of the tunnel were narrowing.
