People know animals do have feelings, but they are not sure if these feelings are correctly understood. In recent years, scientists have done research about the feelings of cows, frogs and pandas. A new study adds chickens to the list. It says that humans can tell whether a chicken is happy or sad by listening to its calls.
The researchers put a bowl behind a door. Inside the bowl, sometimes, there was something chickens love to eat, such as rice or insects. Sometimes, there was nothing. When the chickens saw food behind the door, they seemed happy and produced fast and loud sounds, known as food calls. When there wasn’t food, the chickens made low and long noises to express disappointment. The researchers recorded all these sounds and studied their waves.
Then the researchers chose 16 recordings of such chicken noises. Half were from the chickens seeing the food and half were from the chickens finding no food. The recordings were played to 194 volunteers. Sixty-nine percent of the volunteers correctly understood whether the chickens were feeling happy or not, and some of them even had no experience of taking care of chickens.
The result shows that humans have the natural ability to understand the feelings of chickens.
Hopefully, this finding can bring about new technology to help with chicken-raising, a big industry in many countries. Some scientists are already working on a smart computer program that can ascertain chickens’ feelings. This is good news for farmers who want to make the birds happier and healthier.
25. Which is most probably the sound wave of a happy call by a chicken?
A. B. C. D.
26. How did the volunteers help with the research?
A. By listening to the chicken calls. B. By taking care of the chickens.

①Nowadays, some calligraphers (书法家) are marrying modern technology with ancient writing art to let young people love it.
②Chang Binghuang is a teacher of Chinese language at Tamkang University. He found that his students liked to spend much more time on computers and phones than writing on paper, and even less time on calligraphy.
③“It was quite a blow to me,” said Chang. “And I started to think about how to use technology to get young people interested in calligraphy.” So Chang created a system called “e-pen”. However, this system was not perfect at first. The writers had to watch the screen instead of their hands. It did not feel like writing calligraphy.
④Then, thanks to the tablet computer, a new “e-pen” was born. People can now look at the screen and their hands at the same time. The new “e-pen” app became popular quickly. “The e-pen app is for anyone with an interest in learning Chinese characters,” said Chang. So people who have little interest or are not that willing to learn will be able to take the first step into the world of calligraphy. For instance, young students can now practice writing characters like “love” and “peace” with a digital brush.
⑤To keep the tradition alive, Chang hopes more young people will learn more about calligraphy with the help of new technology.
29. Why did Chang Binghuang create the “e-pen” system?
A. He wanted to teach calligraphy more quickly.
B. His students were very interested in calligraphy.
C. He was attracted by the popularity of tablet computers.
D. He found students preferred technology to traditional writing.
30. What can we infer from the underlined sentence about Chang in Paragraph 3?
A. He felt sad and shocked. B. He felt surprised and proud.
C. He felt excited and happy. D. He felt bored and puzzled.
31. Who is the user of the “e-pen” app according to Chang?
A. Some successful Calligraphers. B. Anyone who is interested in Chinese characters.
C. Young people who are skilled in technology. D. Students from Tamkang University.
32. Which of the following best shows the structure of the passage? (P=Paragraph)
A. B. C. D.
D

At the same time, the government is adding even more charging points (充电站). On the other hand, more Chinese people are aware of the environmental problems. It is encouraging more buyers to choose EVs.
EVs are the way of the future. In an ideal world, everyone benefits from innovation and green transport. Some might get there sooner than others, and will gain greater rewards. It is very likely that China will hold the lead.
33. How many Chinese-made EVs were sold in China in 2023?
A. 8.38 million. B. 9.49 million. C. 9.58 million. D. 8.29 million.

C. To show the development of China’s EV industry. D. To advise people to buy Chinese-made EVs.
35. EV makers can most probably reduce growing risks by ______.
A. improving innovation ability B. winning the government’s support
C. adding more charging points D. dealing with environmental problems
36. What’s the writer’s attitude (态度) towards the future of China’s EV industry?

C. By finding food for the chickens. D. By making the chickens happy.

A. Control. B. Hide. C. Recognize. D. Hurt.
