A friend recently showed me her planned trip to Italy. Over cups of tea, she laid out the trip in military order—the Colosseum(罗马斗兽场), Pompeii, Venice... By the time she was done, I was tired, and I hadn’t even set foot outside the house.
My way of travelling is different. I just pick a destination and then go there, leaving things to chance. This may not be for everybody, but leaping into the unknown, for me, has been great.
Take Greenland for example: I found myself in a tiny village of just 40 people, with no place to stay. The locals welcomed me warmly, and I enjoyed a pleasant supper with an Inuit family, accompanied by fantastic stories not found in guidebooks.
A few years back, driving through Iceland, I noticed an older woman sitting at a picnic table by a waterfall. I approached her and asked if I could sit with her. She agreed and shared her knowledge about the area with me happily, and we had the place all to ourselves, without a tourist in sight.
Wandering in Trinidad, I got on a coastal ship. On the way, a young woman talked to me and gave me a tip for a visit to a hidden local restaurant with delicious and affordable food. There, I enjoyed the meal surrounded by the relaxing local music.
As a teacher, I encourage my students to travel. Most of them have never gone outside; others have never even left their hometown. In many cases, they express fear of going someplace where they won’t know anybody. I try to remove their anxieties by sharing my own travel experiences, and the message that there are good people everywhere, and friendships are waiting to be started.
I once read a piece about regrets that people expressed later in their lives. One that struck me was “I wish I had taken more chances.” Setting off with little planning does mean taking a risk, but for me, it is rewarding.
24. How does the author lead into the topic of the text?
A. By introducing several tourist attractions.
B. By comparing two different ways of travelling.
C. By describing her tiredness of making plans.
D. By emphasising the benefits of organised travel.
25. How did the older woman treat the author in Iceland?
A. She invited the author to have a picnic together.
B. She suggested a travel spot to the author.
C. She chatted with the author warmly.
D. She ignored the author’s request.
26. What does the author want to share with her students?
A. True friendships always start in the journey.
B. Travelling to unknown places is always risky.
C. Travelling alone helps to overcome personal fears.
D. There are always kind-hearted people in the world.
27. What is the main idea of the text?
A. Life always comes with some regrets.
B. Success favours those who stay focused.
C. Unprepared travels lead to unexpected joys.
D. Proper planning ensures a comfortable travel experience.

“I can’t live without my mobile phone!” is what I often hear people say as they talk about how mobiles have become an essential part of their lives.
The very common sight of heads bent, eyes staring at mobile screens and fingers busy tapping away repeats itself around the world. Whenever there is a moment to spare, people busy themselves with their mobile phones.
Some people believe our unhealthy obsession with mobile phones is destroying how we appreciate the little things in life or miss the moments that matter. The truth is that technology overall should be seen as a tool to improve our lives.
Mobile phones have certainly had a great influence on our lives, but I truly believe it’s for the better.
It’s changed the way we communicate, whether for work or play. We are now less limited by time and geographical location. With my mobile phone, I can dial into conference calls while stuck in a traffic jam, or reply to urgent emails while on the go. I can send a text message or share photos and videos with friends who aren’t living in the same country.
The mobile revolution isn’t just changing the lives of urbanite (城市居民) like myself. I know of a young woman named Shompa Akhter who is crazy about fashion and design. She dreamt about starting her own business and she did just that, opening a shop in Kushtia featuring her own creations. Dealing with suppliers in different towns was a problem for Shompa — purchase orders had to either be hand-delivered or mailed out to suppliers. Shompa also found it tough to publicise (宣传) her business to potential customers outside her town. But once she learnt to operate the mobile phone, she was addicted. The 25-year-old businesswoman now stays in touch easily with her suppliers. Mobile email is a blessing (幸运) in her life. Who would have thought that mobility could bring about such enormous change? It shouldn’t really be a surprise though.
28. What do the first two paragraphs mainly show?
A. Mobile phones make people’s lives more enjoyable.
B. People’s health is greatly affected by mobile phones.
C. People become addicted to mobile phones in daily life.
D. The public is concerned about mobile phone overuse.
29. What’s the author’s attitude towards mobile phones?
A. Indifferent. B. Negative.
C. Doubtful. D. Supportive.
30. What is Paragraph 5 mainly about?
A. The solution to geographical limitations.
B. The advantages of mobile phones.
C. The new functions of mobile phones.
D. The methods to save time.
31. What do we know about Shompa from the text?
A. She is addicted to Internet surfing.
B. Mobile email is still unavailable to her.
C. She found suppliers through social media.
D Her mobile phone helped her business a lot.

A young Dutch inventor is expanding his efforts to clean up floating plastic from the Pacific Ocean. He has developed a floating device to trap plastic waste moving into rivers before it reaches the oceans.
Boyan Slat was just 18 years old when he invented a system for catching waste in the ocean. He also founded an environmental group called The Ocean Cleanup. Its purpose is to develop the system. In 2019, Slat showed the next step: a floating device called Interceptor. It removes plastic from the rivers. The device is powered by energy from the sun. “The 1,000 rivers are responsible for about 80% of plastic going into the world’s oceans,” said Slat. Three of the machines have already been used. Each machine costs about $775,600, but the cost might drop as production increases.
Since they were used, the machines have been performing effectively, collecting the plastic bottles and other waste in the rivers. According to Slat, it is necessary to close “the tap”, which means preventing more plastic from reaching the oceans in the first place. He aims to clean them all in the next five years. “This is not going to be easy, but if we do get this done, we could truly make our oceans clean again,” said Slat.
The device is designed to be safe in rivers. Its nose is shaped to change directions to keep it away from larger floating objects. It works by guiding plastic waste into an opening in the front of the device. The waste is then carried inside the machine, where it is dropped into containers. The device sends a text message to local operators that can come and empty it when it is full.
32. What can we learn about Interceptor?
A. It can help sort waste. B. It is still being tested.
C. It is mainly used in oceans. D. It runs on solar energy.
33. What do the underlined words “the tap” in Paragraph 3 refer to?
A. The machines. B. The rivers. C. The containers. D. The oceans.
34. What’s the function of the device’s nose?
A To ensure the device’s safety. B. To store the collected plastic.
C. To send operators text messages. D. To signal its location to passing boats.
35. Where is the text most likely taken from?
A. A science magazine. B. A cultural research paper.
C. A travel guidebook. D. A geography textbook.

Tom was a young boy from a poor family. His father worked as a street sweeper, waking up early every morning to clean the streets in the biting cold. His mother, too, worked outdoors, doing various jobs to help make ends meet. Tom couldn’t bear to see his parents struggle, especially in the freezing weather. He desperately wanted to do something to help them.
For weeks, he saved every penny he could. He did small jobs around the neighbourhood, running errands (跑腿) and helping neighbours. Each time he earned a little money, he put it aside. His goal was clear: to buy a warm coat for his father and gloves for his mother so they would be warm during the winter.
On Christmas Eve, he went to the store and carefully selected a warm coat and a pair of soft gloves. But when he reached the counter (柜台), he found that he didn’t have enough money to pay. The total cost was more than he had saved.
Disappointed, Tom stood there, unsure of what to do. Just then, Mrs Green, a kind neighbour, walked by and noticed his distress. She stopped and asked him what was wrong. Tom explained his situation and expressed how much he wanted to keep his parents warm in the cold.
Knowing the struggles the family faced, Mrs Green smiled and said without hesitation, “Don’t worry, I’ll help you out. You go ahead and buy those gifts. It’s a wonderful thing you’re doing for your parents.”
Tom was so grateful for Mrs Green’s support. He hadn’t expected anyone to help him, especially in such a kind way. Tom thanked her over and over again.
“You’re a thoughtful boy,” Mrs Green said. “Your parents are lucky to have you.”

26 What does the author want to share with her students?
B 25. C 26. D 27. C

根据第一段“A friend recently showed me her planned trip to Italy. Over cups of tea, she laid out the trip in military order—the Colosseum(罗马斗兽场), Pompeii, Venice... By the time she was done, I was tired, and I hadn’t even set foot outside the house(最近,一位朋友向我展示了她计划好的意大利之旅。我们一边喝茶,她一边有条不紊地安排着这次旅行——罗马斗兽场、庞贝古城、威尼斯……等她安排完,我都累了,还没迈出家门一步呢)”和第二段“My way of travelling is different. I just pick a destination and then go there, leaving things to chance.(我的旅行方式不同。我只是选择一个目的地,然后就前往那里,一切随缘)”可知,作者比较了一位朋友和自己的不同的旅游方式,引出了主题:选择一个目的地,然后就前往那里,一切随缘,可推理出作者通过比较两种不同的旅行方式来引出文章的主题。故选B项。
【25题详解】
细节理解题。根据第四段“A few years back, driving through Iceland, I noticed an older woman sitting at a picnic table by a waterfall. I approached her and asked if I could sit with her. She agreed and shared her knowledge about the area with me happily, and we had the place all to ourselves, without a tourist in sight(几年前,我开车穿过冰岛时,注意到一位年长的女士坐在瀑布旁的野餐桌上。我走近她,问她我是否可以和她坐在一起。她同意了,并愉快地和我分享了她对这个地区的了解,这个地方完全属于我们,看不到一个游客)”可知,冰岛的那位年长的女士和作者愉快地聊天。故选C项。

C
D. Her mobile phone helped her business a lot.
C 29. D 30. B 31. D
根据第一段中“‘I can’t live without my mobile phone!’ is what I often hear people say as they talk about how mobiles have become an essential part of their lives.(“没有手机我活不下去!”这是人们在谈论手机已成为他们生活中不可或缺的一部分时,我常听到他们说的话。)”以及第二段中“The very common sight of heads bent, eyes staring at mobile screens and fingers busy tapping away repeats itself around the world.( 这种常见的场景——人们低着头,眼睛盯着手机屏幕,手指不停地敲击着——在全球各地不断重复出现。)”
根据第四段中“Mobile phones have certainly had a great influence on our lives, but I truly believe it’s for the better.(手机无疑对我们的生活产生了重大影响,但我坚信这种影响是积极的。)” 选项D“Supportive(支持的)”符合题意。
根据第五段中“It’s changed the way we communicate, whether for work or play. We are now less limited by time and geographical location. With my mobile phone, I can dial into conference calls while stuck in a traffic jam, or reply to urgent emails while on the go. I can send a text message or share photos and videos with friends who aren’t living in the same country.( 它改变了我们的交流方式,无论是工作交流还是娱乐交流。现在我们不再受时间与地理位置的限制。有了手机,我在遭遇交通堵塞时可以拨打会议电话,或者在外出时回复紧急邮件。我还能给不在同一国家的朋友们发送短信、分享照片和视频。)”可知,本段主要描述了手机如何改变了人们的沟通方式,使得人们不再受时间和地理位置的限制。作者通过自己的经历举例说明了手机在工作和娱乐中的便利性。因此,该段的主要内容是介绍手机的优点,选项B“The advantages of mobile phones(手机的优点。)”
根据文章最后一段中“ Shompa also found it tough to publicise (宣传) her business to potential customers outside her town. But once she learnt to operate the mobile phone, she was addicted. The 25-year-old businesswoman now stays in touch easily with her suppliers. Mobile email is a blessing (幸运) in her life. (Shompa还发现,要在她所在城镇之外向潜在客户宣传自己的业务相当困难。但当她学会使用手机后,就完全沉迷其中了。)”可知,Shompa Akhter学会了使用手机后,能够轻松地与供应商保持联系,并且手机邮件对她的生活来说是一种幸运。这说明手机对她的商业活动产生了很大的帮助。因此,选项D“Her mobile phone helped her business a lot(她的手机对她的业务帮助很大。)”

注意:1. 续写词数应为150个左右;

Tom eagerly shared his experience in the store with his parents.
____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
On Christmas Day, Tom woke up early in the morning. He placed the wrapped gifts on the table and waited, heart pounding with excitement. When his parents returned from work, their eyes widened at the sight of the surprise. With a wide smile, he presented the gifts he had carefully prepared for them. His parents were deeply moved, tears welling up in their eyes. “Tom, they are the best gifts we could ever receive,” his father said, hugging him tightly. Overwhelmed with curiosity, they asked Tom how he managed to afford such wonderful presents.
Tom eagerly shared his experience in the store with his parents. His mother was touched by the story. Later, they visited Mrs Green, bringing cookies they had baked as a token of their appreciation. Mrs Green greeted them with a warm smile, inviting them inside to share the festive spirit. Together, they enjoyed a joyful Christmas, exchanging stories and laughter. Tom’s father, with a reflective smile, remarked, “This is the essence of Christmas — care, love and kindness.” It was a beautiful reminder that kindness, no matter how small, can truly transform lives.
