Winston Churchill was born into a famous family. His father was a successful politician.
However, as a boy, Churchill was considered a slow learner in school.
Later he entered the Army and saw action in various countries.
In October 1900, Churchill began his political career For the next sixty years Churchill’s work as a great politician was both brighter and more difficult than his father had been.
In 1939, Germany attacked Poland. Churchill prepared to fight. In 1940 he became the Prime Minister of England.
France fell. The Germans fought their way through Western Europe. It looked as if Britain was about to lose the war. Was it not possible to ask for peace, and listen to Hitler?
Churchill spoke,“I have nothing to offer but blood, hard work, tears and sweat (汗) … You ask what is our policy (政策)? I will tell you, it is to fight, by sea, by land and air, with all our force and with all the strength that God can give us. You ask what is our aim? I can answer in one word: victory.”
The Germans began moving their armies to the French coast and prepared to go to war with the British. The British had not enough guns to go round. Churchill gave the answer: “We shall defend our island, whatever the cost may be, we shall fight on the coasts, we shall fight on the landing grounds, we shall fight in the field and in the streets, we shall fight in the hills, we shall never give up.”
By his courage and hard work Churchill heartened his people and other nations fighting together against Hitler. Victory finally came when the Germans lost World War II.

A teenager needs to have a sense of independence in their life to feel secure (安全的). To some teenagers independence means a lot to them and I think that some parents don’t allow their teenagers enough independence.
Independence has something to do with freedom. Some kids are not allowed to go anywhere alone, and the only thing their schedule includes is going to school, coming home, going to sleep, and repeating the process the next day. Parents tend to be afraid that their kids can get hurt if they go outside into the world. But if parents control their kids too much, they may never learn to live on their own. The best way for a teenager to lean lesson is through experience. I think it is good for teenagers to have freedom.
Teenagers’ lack of freedom can also stop them from having good friendship at school. Some might say this is a good thing, because it helps them focus more on their school work. I argue that this can only discourage them not to do their school work. Some parents do not allow their children to be around their friends outside the school, thinking that this will get them into trouble. But I don’t think so. Instead, isn’t this a good reason for parents to get their children a cellphone? Cellphones allow teenagers to stay in touch with their parents, and communicate with friends.
Privacy (隐私) is another issue between parents and their teenagers. Teenagers tend to enjoy relaxation by themselves in their own room. This also gives them a sense of independence. It often annoys teenagers when their parents enter their room when they are not home. I know that my mom always goes in my room when I’m not home, and this has brought me to the point where I have asked many times to get a lock on my door.
8. What is the main idea of the second paragraph?
A. Kids have a dull schedule every day. B. Parents allow their kids no freedom.
C. Kids know how to live independently. D. It helps teenagers a lot to have freedom.
9. Which of the following statements is true in the opinion of the author?
A. It is unnecessary for a kid to have a cellphone.
B. Good friendships between kids harm their school work.
C. Parents should make it easy for kids to communicate with their friends.
D. Kids should center on the school work without friends outside the school.
10. How do teenagers usually feel when their parents enter their rooms in their absence?
A. Disappointed. B. Frightened. C. Angry. D. Calm.
11. Why does the author hope to have her door locked?
A. To keep her father from reading her dairy. B. To prevent her mother entering her room.
C. To protect herself from any harm. D. To stop thieves from going in.
D 9. C 10. C 11. B
根据第二段最后两句“The best way for a teenager to lean lesson is through experience. I think it is good for teenagers to have freedom. (对青少年来说,吸取教训的最好方式就是亲身经历。我认为青少年有自由是好事。)”可知,第二段主要是讲拥有自由对青少年有很大帮助。故选D。
【9题详解】
细节理解题。根据第三段最后四句“Some parents do not allow their children to be around their friends outside the school, thinking that this will get them into trouble. But I don’t think so. Instead, isn’t this a good reason for parents to get their children a cellphone? Cellphones allow teenagers to stay in touch with their parents, and communicate with friends. (一些家长不允许他们的孩子在校外和他们的朋友在一起,认为这会给他们带来麻烦。但我不这么认为。相反,这难道不是父母给孩子买手机的一个好理由吗?手机让青少年与父母保持联系,并与朋友交流。)”可知,父母应该让孩子和他们的朋友交流变得容易。故选C。
【10题详解】
推理判断题。根据最后一段第四句“It often annoys teenagers when their parents enter their room when they are not home. (当青少年不在家时候,父母进入他们的房间,这常常会惹恼他们。)”可知,当父母在他们不在的时候进入他们的房间时,青少年通常很生气。故选C。
【11题详解】
细节理解题。根据最后一段最后一句“I know that my mom always goes in my room when I’m not home, and this has brought me to the point where I have asked many times to get a lock on my door. (我知道我妈妈总是在我不在家的时候进入我的房间,这让我不得不多次要求给我的门上一把锁。)”可知,作者希望给她的门上锁是不想让妈妈进入她的房间。故选B。
D
Over breakfast this morning after I enjoyed a short chat with Mia, my new Spanish study buddy (伙伴), I felt that I had mastered more than what I gained from textbook exercises. Mia, however, is an AI that I created to take advantage of a phenomenon called the “protege effect.” According to several studies, we learn more effectively when we teach someone else about the topic we’ve just explored — even if that person doesn’t really exist.
Learning through teaching was relatively slow to gain popularity until a group of scientists in the United States began to test its effectiveness. In one of the first experiments, Catherine Chase and colleagues tested on 62 eighth-graders who were tasked with using a computer program to study the biological (生物学的) changes that occur when we get a fever.
Over two lessons, they had to read a text and then create a mind-map explaining the different processes and the relationships between them. For half the teens, the mind-map presented the result of self-study. The others were told that their mind-map would help to teach a virtual character.
It was not a big difference, but the students in the role of teacher scored significantly better. This increased participation had a big influence: both the amount they got and the depth of their understanding. At the end of the two classes, participants who had played the role of teacher had kept much more of the material, with much stronger performance on test questions.
Chase’s team named this the “protege effect” and it has since been studied many times. These later studies suggest that learning by teaching is more powerful than other mnemonic (助记符号) techniques like self-testing. If we know that others are going to learn from us, we feel a sense of responsibility to provide the right information, so we make a greater effort to fill in the gaps in our understanding and correct any mistaken thoughts. Sharing our knowledge then helps to strengthen what we have learned. Why not try to apply the protege effect into practice?
12. Why does the author mention Mia in paragraph 1?
A. To stress the importance of AI.
B. To share a story of a study buddy.
C. To introduce a phenomenon about study.
D. To show how to finish textbook exercises.
13. What was different about the two groups in the experiment?
A. They differ in learning time. B. They differ in learning tools.
C. They differ in learning materials. D. They differ in learning strategies.
14. Why does the “protege effect” help learning?
A. Because AI teachers explain things clearly.
B. Because mind-maps make memorizing easier.
C. Because teaching inspires deeper understanding.
D. Because testing yourself is the best way to learn.
15. What can be a suitable title for the passage?
A. Learning by Teaching Helps B. Textbook Exercises Benefit More
C. Mind-mapping Improves Memory D. AI Promotes Language Learning
C 13. D 14. C 15. A
根据第一段中“Over breakfast this morning, after I enjoyed a short chat with Mia, my new Spanish study buddy (伙伴), I felt that I had mastered more than what I gained from textbook exercises. Mia, however, is an AI that I created to take advantage of a phenomenon called the “protege effect.” (今天早晨吃早餐时,我和新结识的西班牙语学习伙伴Mia简短交谈后,感觉自己掌握的知识已经超越了课本练习所得。不过,Mia其实是我为了利用“门徒效应”这个现象而创造的人工智能)”可知,作者先提到自己虚构的人工智能学习伙伴Mia,后面自然过渡到对“门徒效应”的讨论。由此可知,作者提到Mia是为了引出关于学习的一个现象。故选C项。
【13题详解】
细节理解题。根据第三段中“For half the teens, the mind-map presented the result of self-study. The others were told that their mind-map would help to teach a virtual character. (半数学生的思维导图作为自主学习成果呈现,而其余学生则被告知其制作的思维导图将用于指导虚拟角色学习)”可知,两组的差异在于学习策略不同。故选D项。
【14题详解】
细节理解题。根据最后一段中“If we know that others are going to learn from us, we feel a sense of responsibility to provide the right information, so we make a greater effort to fill in the gaps in our understanding and correct any mistaken thoughts. (当我们意识到他人将受教于己时,会产生确保信息准确的责任感,从而更主动地填补认知空白并修正错误观点)”可知,“门徒效应”有助于学习。是因为教学行为激发了更深层次的理解。故选C项。
【15题详解】
主旨大意题。通读全文,尤其是第一段中“According to several studies, we learn more effectively when we teach someone else about the topic we’ve just explored — even if that person doesn’t really exist. (多项研究表明,当我们向他人讲解刚学过的知识时——即便对方并非真实存在——学习效果会显著提升)”可知,文章围绕“通过教学促进学习”,即“门徒效应”展开,用科学实验论证了其合理性,表明教学行为能激发更深的理解。因此,A项“以教促学”概括了这一现象,最适合作为文章标题。故选A项。

Churchill died in 1965 and was given a State Funeral (国葬). This was a fitting payment to one of all the greatest men the world had ever seen.

A. was a slow student B. was an army man
C. helped his father in his career D. had little interest in politics
5. The Germans attacked Britain ______.
A. after France was defeated B. before France fell

C. countries which won World War II held a State Funeral in honor of the statesman

D
Over breakfast this morning, after I enjoyed a short chat with Mia, my new Spanish study buddy (伙伴), I felt that I had mastered more than what I gained from textbook exercises.
Over two lessons they had to read a text and then create a mind-map explaining the different processes and the relationships between them.

All of a sudden, the wall AD attracted him, “Looking for a man, height 180 cm, shoe size 44, just with my son a weekend, I am willing to pay $500.”
Fifteen minutes later, when Brian got to the accommodation, a gaunt (憔悴的) woman opened the door.
After a simple communication, the woman took out the set of teddy bear doll clothing and let Brian put on. She said, as long as he played with her son until he went to bed, $500 belonged to him. Then the woman took Brian into her son’s room and said, “Dear, see who is back?”
The little boy was very excited. As the woman said,he is a mentally retarded (智力低下) boy.
The boy looked at Brian, “Dad, dad...are you back?” Brian said, “Yes!” The woman said, “Andrew, mom didn’t cheat you. Dad has come back with a teddy hear look!” Then Brian played with the boy happily until it was time to have dinner.
When the three people finished the meal, the little boy wanted to play basketball in the yard. Brian had to agree and accompanied the little boy in the yard. When the little boy played with Brian in the yard, he said, “Dad, you are great!”
It’s time for bed. Brian helped the little boy bath and began to tell him story. Brian’s musical sound let the woman stand behind the door for a long time. Finally, the little boy fell asleep.
