Introduced by their moms at the University of British Columbia, they soon became an environmental-activism powerhouse duo “We knew we could make a difference together”, says Cash from Tennessee. Ella, now living in Florida, adds, “We became best friends immediately.” Their meeting quickly turned into action, leading to the creation of Cleanup Kids — a youth-led non-profit focused on environmental protection. Ella’s strong love for the environment began with a love for sharks, encouraged by bedtime stories about them, along with her experiences cleaning up trash along Vero Beach. Cash’s journey started at seven when he found a single plastic straw on the beach, highlighting the broader issue of plastic pollution threatening countless wildlife, including turtles and seabirds. Now both 14, they sometimes meet for sea-turtle freeing, scuba diving, or meeting, but mostly stay “closely connected online” while co-leading Cleanup Kids, which has grown to over 200 members worldwide and continues to grow. “My hope for Cleanup Kids is that it grows from hundreds to thousands of kids, causing a chain of effect that encourages others”, says Ella. Members are tasked with conducting at least one cleanup per month, documenting the rubbish they collect, and aiming for a goal of one million pieces by year’s end, while also sorting and recycling items. In 2022, they were among 25 projects selected for the Gloria Barron Prize for Young Heroes, which honors exceptional young leaders in North America. How do you even begin to make that effect? Cash’s best advice is to start small. “I started with a couple of cleanups with my family. Don’t overdo it”, he says. “Kids may be a small part of the population, but we’re 100 percent of the future, and every little action counts.” 4. What do Ella and Cash have in common? A. They both live in beachside communities. B. They both worry about rubbish on the beach. C. They both have environmental activist parents. D. They both started environmental protection at seven. 5. What effect do Ella and Cash hope to make through Cleanup Kids? A. Local community connection. B. Creation of a worldwide recycling program. C. Children’s awareness of pollution. D. Development of new environmental policies. 6. Which of the following can best describe Ella and Cash? A. Curious and adventurous. B. Warm-hearted and generous. C. Supportive and outgoing. D. Responsible and determined. 7. What can be the best title for the text? A. The Cleanup Kids: Small but Powerful B. Friends for Nature: Ella and Cash C. Green Organization: A Non-Profit Project D. Youth in Action: A Path to Change 【答案】4. B 5. C 6. D 7. 根据第二段中“Ella’s strong love for the environment began with a love for sharks, encouraged by bedtime stories about them, along with her experiences cleaning up trash along Vero Beach. Cash’s journey started at seven when he found a single plastic straw on the beach, highlighting the broader issue of plastic pollution threatening countless wildlife, including turtles and seabirds.(Ella对环境的强烈热爱始于对鲨鱼的热爱,她在睡前听了关于鲨鱼的故事,以及她在维罗海滩清理垃圾的经历,鼓励了她。Cash的旅程始于7点,当时他在海滩上发现了一根塑料吸管,突显了塑料污染威胁着无数野生动物的更广泛问题,包括海龟和海鸟)”可知,Ella和Cash两人都有在海滩的经历且都担心海滩上的垃圾。故选B。 【5题详解】 细节理解题。根据第四段中“Members are tasked with conducting at least one cleanup per month, documenting the rubbish they collect, and aiming for a goal of one million pieces by year’s end, while also sorting and recycling items.(会员的任务是每月至少进行一次清理,记录他们收集的垃圾,目标是到年底达到100万件,同时分类和回收物品)”可知,组织成员通过参与这些环保活动,能提高对污染的认识。 根据第二段中“Their meeting quickly turned into action, leading to the creation of Cleanup Kids — a youth-led non-profit focused on environmental protection.(他们的会面很快变成了行动,导致了Cleanup Kids的成立——一个由年轻人领导的专注于环境保护的非营利组织)”和第四段中“Members are tasked with conducting at least one cleanup per month, documenting the rubbish they collect, and aiming for a goal of one million pieces by year’s end, while also sorting and recycling items.(会员的任务是每月至少进行一次清理,记录他们收集的垃圾,目标是到年底达到100万件,同时分类和回收物品)”可知,从他们创立“Cleanup Kids”组织,并持续领导组织开展环保活动,如要求成员每月清理垃圾等,可看出他们有责任感且坚定。 根据全文内容,结合第二段中“Their meeting quickly turned into action, leading to the creation of Cleanup Kids — a youth-led non-profit focused on environmental protection.(他们的会面很快变成了行动,导致了Cleanup Kids的成立——一个由年轻人领导的专注于环境保护的非营利组织)”可知,文章主要讲述了“Cleanup Kids”这个由青少年主导的环保组织,虽然成员是青少年,但在环保方面发挥了很大作用。 A。 C Sports play a key role in the physical and mental development of children. Although it’s great to see a child succeed in one sport, it’s important to keep their activities in balance. Joining in multiple (多样的) sports enables children to acquire a knowledge of many movement skills. In addition to this, here are some other good reasons why kids should be encouraged to play several sorts of sports. Repetitive (重复的) movements can cause the growing bodies to get injured later on. With multi-sports, each sport works the body slightly differently. This will lead to fewer overuse injuries. Also, kids who are expert in one sport may end up losing interest and eventually give up. Being expert in a sport raises expectations and may put too much pressure on young kids. Having all kinds of experiences will keep children interested and active, and even make them enjoy sports without any pressure. Multi-sports also allow kids to experience different roles. Being a goalkeeper in a football team is very different from being a point guard in basketball. Being exposed to (接触) baseball develops better hand-eye coordination (协调). Soccer develops better footwork. Volleyball develops jumping and hand-eye coordination. The list goes on and on! Joining in multiple sports broadens a child’s developmental, social, and situational experience. It opens up opportunities to become a better competitor and a promising athlete — flexible and energetic. Besides developing a wide range of sports skills, more importantly, multi-sports provide opportunities for children to discover their liking. With the help of the right coaches, sports become fun, inspiring kids’ interests. So if you can’t decide whether your child should focus on one sport or try some different sports, I hope you can make a better decision now. 8. What will happen to kids if they do one sport repeatedly? A. They can be more likely to get injured. B. They can spare more time to study. C. They can be skilled at the sport early. D. They can stay more concentrated. 9. What’s implied about multi-sports in Paragraph 3? A. They inspire kids’ sporting spirit. B. They help kids develop their special talents C. They help advance kids’ all-round development. D. They have much higher requirements for kids. 10. What does the author want to express in the last paragraph? A. Children should turn their interests into professions. B. Sports skills make kids more popular at school. C. Parents should lower their expectations for kids D. Multi-sports help kids find their favorite sports. 11. What is the text mainly about? A. How sports benefit kids. B. Why kids should try multi-sports. C. What sports children should try. D. Why multi-sports are popular today. A 9. C 10. D 11. 根据第二段“Repetitive (重复的) movements can cause the growing bodies to get injured later on. With multi-sports, each sport works the body slightly differently. This will lead to fewer overuse injuries.(重复的动作会导致发育中的身体在日后受伤。而参与多项运动时,每项运动对身体的作用略有不同,这会减少过度使用造成的伤害。)”可知,孩子反复进行一项运动会更可能受伤。故选A项。 根据第三段“Multi-sports also allow kids to experience different roles. It opens up opportunities to become a better competitor and a promising athlete — flexible and energetic.(参与多项运动还能让孩子体验不同角色。 根据最后一段“Besides developing a wide range of sports skills, more importantly, multi-sports provide opportunities for children to discover their liking. (除了培养广泛的运动技能,更重要的是,多项运动为孩子提供了发现自己喜好的机会。)”可知,作者在最后一段想表达多项运动帮助孩子找到喜欢的运动。故选D项。 【11题详解】 主旨大意题。根据第一段“In addition to this, here are some other good reasons why kids should be encouraged to play several sorts of sports. (除此之外,以下还有一些其他充分的理由,说明为什么应该鼓励孩子参与多种运动。)”及后文围绕“减少受伤、保持兴趣、体验不同角色、发现喜好”等理由展开可知,文章核心是“为什么孩子应该尝试多项运动”。故选B项。 D Carmakers have made great advances in safety over the last 20 years. New digital technologies can keep a car in its lane, stop to avoid an accident by itself, and even call for help in an emergency. But unluckily, these carmakers are going too far about the rising dependence (依赖) on touch screens inside cars. In the beginning, touch screens were a practical way to put satellite, GPS-guided directions, and other useful entertainment functions (娱乐功能) together into cars while the main controls for driving were left largely unchanged. But designers couldn’t just leave them alone. Now, touch screens, which require a hand and concentration to use, have taken over many functions, even basic driving tasks like turning on headlights and checking the car’s speed, stealing drivers’ attention. Distracted (分心的) driving has become a big problem. According to National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, accidents caused by distracted driving in 2022 led to 3,308 traffic deaths. Thousands more drivers have their cars damaged or destroyed by those who just can’t keep their eyes off their screens. Besides, the overdependence on touch screens shows a usability problem, too. If any part of a driver’s hand accidentally touches the screen, it’s probable to activate (激活) an unwanted function. Quickly disappearing are the days when physical buttons enable drivers to turn down the radio or turn on the headlights simply by feel, without taking their eyes off the road. Instead, they must divide their attention between the road and the screen, which is dangerous. I’m not against technological upgrades in general. But when I have to focus on what’s inside the car instead of on what’s happening in front of it, it’s gone too far. So give me back my physical buttons that I can control only by feel, and let me keep my eyes on the road where they belong. 12. What’s the first paragraph mainly about? A. Great advances in car safety. B. Praises of technological advances. C Importance of digital technologies in cars. D. A worrying problem with an in-car technology. 13. What does the underlined word “them” in paragraph 2 refer to? A. Driving tasks. B. Basic driving tasks. C. Main controls for driving. D. Useful entertainment functions. 14. What is included in paragraph 3? A. Rules. B. Effects. C. Solutions. D. Reasons. 15. What’s the writer’s attitude toward in-car touch screen technology? A. Negative. B. Positive. C. Satisfied. D. Supportive. 【答案】12 D 13. C 14. B 15. 根据第一段“Carmakers have made great advances in safety over the last 20 years. New digital technologies can keep a car in its lane, stop to avoid an accident by itself, and even call for help in an emergency. But unluckily, these carmakers are going too far about the rising dependence (依赖) on touch screens inside cars. (在过去20年里,汽车制造商在安全方面取得了巨大进步。新的数字技术能够让汽车保持在车道内、自动刹车以避免事故,甚至在紧急情况下呼救。但不幸的是,这些汽车制造商在车内触摸屏使用依赖度不断上升这一问题上做得有些过头了。)”可知,第一段先肯定汽车安全技术的进步,随后转折指出核心——车载触摸屏过度依赖这一令人担忧的问题。故选D项。 【13题详解】 词句猜测题。根据第二段中“In the beginning, touch screens were a practical way to put satellite, GPS-guided directions, and other useful entertainment functions (娱乐功能) together into cars while the main controls for driving were left largely unchanged. (起初,触摸屏是一种实用的方式,可以将卫星、GPS导航和其他有用的娱乐功能整合到汽车中,而驾驶的主要控制装置基本保持不变。)”以及划线词所在句“But designers couldn’t just leave them alone. (但是设计师不能对它们置之不理。)”可知,本句中的them指代的是前文提到的“驾驶的主要控制装置”,即设计师不能对驾驶的主要控制装置置之不理。故选C项。 【14题详解】 推理判断题。根据第三段“Distracted (分心的) driving has become a big problem. 根据第一段中“But unluckily, these carmakers are going too far about the rising dependence (依赖) on touch screens inside cars. (但不幸的是,这些汽车制造商在车内触摸屏使用依赖度不断上升这一问题上做得有些过头了。)”以及最后一段“I’m not against technological upgrades in general. But when I have to focus on what’s inside the car instead of on what’s happening in front of it, it’s gone too far. So give me back my physical buttons that I can control only by feel, and let me keep my eyes on the road where they belong. (我并不反对技术升级。但当我不得不把注意力放在车内的东西上,而不是车前方发生的事情时,这就太过分了。所以,把那些我仅凭触感就能操控的实体按键还给我吧,让我能把目光放在本该关注的路面上。)”可知,作者并不反对技术升级,但认为过度依赖车内触摸屏技术已经过分,并呼吁恢复物理按钮。因此,作者对车内触摸屏技术持负面态度。故选A项。 Find it hard to get started? Try these suggestions to help you rise and shine and be effective from morning till night. ● Get up earlier Sleeping in can be a hard habit to break. Actually it involves two things — going to bed earlier and getting up earlier. Start off by going to bed 15 minutes before your usual bedtime and setting your alarm the same number of minutes earlier the next day. ___16___ ● Have a good stretch (伸展) in bed Before you even open your eyes, stretch every extremity (四肢) for 15 seconds. Lift your arm and begin by stretching each finger, next your hand, and then your arm. ___17___ End with a neck and back stretch that gets you out of bed. By doing this, you will increase the flow of blood through your system, providing your tissues with extra oxygen. ● ___18___ The fewer choices you have to make, the better. Before going to bed, decide what you’re going to wear, work out which route you’ll take to work and pack your bag. ● Refer to your morning calendar (日历) Hang a large whiteboard in your kitchen. On it, write down all you need to know for that particular day, from doctor appointments (约定) to what you’re doing with your friends. Check it carefully while you drink your first cup of coffee or tea. ___19___ ● Get moving ___20___ But if you can get yourself into the habit, exercising in the morning can give you energy to jump-start your day. A. Make choices the night before B. It will help you to arrange your day. C. Move on to your toes, feet and legs. D. Spend less time choosing things when packing. E. Morning exercise can get you refreshed quickly. F. If you’re a night owl (猫头鹰), an early morning jog might sound like punishment. G. Gradually reset your sleep cycle until you get to your desired wake-up time. G 17. C 18. A 19. B 20. 【16题详解】 前文“Start off by going to bed 15 minutes before your usual bed time and setting your alarm the same number of minutes earlier the next day. (从比平时早15分钟上床睡觉开始,把第二天闹钟的时间同样提前15分钟。)”建议首先要调整闹钟的时间,空处需补充接下来如何实现早睡早起,因此G项“Gradually reset your sleep cycle until you get to your desired wake-up time. (逐步调整你的睡眠周期,直到达到你理想的起床时间。)”符合语境,补充逐步调整,承接前文。故选G。 【17题详解】 前文“Lift your arm and begin by stretching each finger, next your hand, and then your arm. (抬起你的手臂,开始伸展每根手指,然后是你的手,然后是你的手臂。)”描述如何在床上拉伸手指、手和手臂,后文“End with a neck and back stretch that gets you out of bed. (最后伸展脖子和背部,让你起床。)”提到最后的拉伸部位,空处需补充身体其他部位的拉伸,因此C项“Move on to your toes, feet and legs. (接着拉伸脚趾、脚和腿。)”符合语境,过渡到下肢的拉伸,符合动作顺序。故选C。 【18题详解】 后文“The fewer choices you have to make, the better. Before going to bed, decide what you’re going to wear, work out which route you’ll take to work and pack your bag. (你必须做出的选择越少越好。在睡觉前,决定你要穿什么,确定你上班的路线,收拾好你的包。)”指出要少做选择,建议睡觉前做好第二天早晨的决定,空处是段落标题,需总的建议提前做决定,且需和其他段落标题一样使用祈使句的形式,因此A项“Make choices the night before (前一晚做好选择)”符合语境,契合后文内容。故选A。 【19题详解】 前文“On it, write down all you need to know for that particular day, from doctor appointments (约定) to what you’re doing with your friends. Check it carefully while you drink your first cup of coffee or tea. (在上面写下当天你需要知道的一切,从看医生到和朋友在做什么。在你喝第一杯咖啡或茶的时候仔细检查一下。)”建议利用厨房白板来记录好当天事项,空处需补充白板规划的好处,因此B项“It will help you to arrange your day. (这将帮助你安排一天的事务。)”符合语境,点明白板的作用,承接前文。故选B。 【20题详解】 后文“But if you can get yourself into the habit, exercising in the morning can give you energy to jump-start your day. (但如果你能让自己养成这个习惯,早上锻炼可以给你能量,让你开始新的一天。)”包含转折,建议养成早晨锻炼的好习惯,空处需补充对晨练的挑战性描述,因此F项“If you’re a night owl (猫头鹰), an early morning jog might sound like punishment. (如果你是夜猫子,晨跑可能像惩罚。)”符合语境,点明晨练的困难,其中的an early morning jog和后文的exercising in the morning呼应。 I was visiting Costa Rica when I found myself in a bad situation. All my bank cards weren’t____21____abroad, and I only had $ 5 and a return ticket in two weeks.Back then, there were no cellphones or Internet. It was____22____who came to my rescue (救援) to get me home. Finally, there was only one family between us and the ticket counter. This family made a big impression on me. There were four children, all probably under the age of twelve. You could tell they didn’t have a lot of money. Their clothes were not expensive, but they were clean. The children were well-behaved, and all of them were standing in line, two-by-two behind their parents, holding hands. They were excitedly talking about the clowns (小丑), elephants, and other acts they would see that night with their brothers or sisters in a low voice. One could sense they had never been to the circus before. It promised to be highlight of their young lives. The father and mother were at the head of the crowd, standing proud as they could be. The mother was holding her husband’s hand, looking up at him as if to say, “You are my knight (骑士) in shining armor (盔甲).” He was smiling and responding (回复) in pride, looking back at her as if to say, “You got that right.” The ticket lady asked the father how many tickets he wanted. He proudly responded, “Please let me buy four children’s tickets and two adult tickets so I can take my family to the circus.” The ticket lady gave the price. The wife let go of her husband’s hand. Her head dropped, and his lips began to shake. There was no longer a smile on the man’s face. He quietly asked, “How much did you say?” The ticket lady told him the price again. It was clear that the man didn’t have enough money. But how could he tell his kids the bad news? Actually we were not rich in any sense. So I understood how the kids would feel. I felt sorry for them. Paragraph 1 Seeing what was going on, my dad put his hand in his pocket, pulled out a $50 bill and dropped it on the ground. __________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Paragraph 2 That day my father and I went back to our car and drove home without any tickets. __________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】Paragraph 1 Seeing what was going on, my dad put his hand in his pocket, pulled out a $50 bill and dropped it on the ground. Then my father reached down, picked up the bill and tapped the man on the shoulder, “Excuse me, sir, this fell out of your pocket.” The man turned around and saw the $50 bill. He realized what was going on, and looked up at my father with his lips shaking and grateful tears sparkling in his eyes. He shook hands with my father tightly and said, “Thank you, thank you, sir! This really means a lot for my whole family.” Paragraph 2 That day my father and I went back to our car and drove home without any tickets. Although we failed to see the circus, we were overwhelmed with happiness. I asked my father,“Dad, why did you do that?” He gently patted me on the shoulder and replied, “My child, it was a desperate, heartbreaking and embarrassing situation for a father. We should be grateful for what we have and try to help those who are in need. And after all, we can always go next time.” What he said and what he did set a good example for me and made a big difference to my life. 词汇激活 行为类: ①轻拍:tap/pat ②与某人紧握双手:shake hands with sb. tightly/clasp hands with sb. firmly ③(眼泪)闪烁:sparkle/glisten ④有重大影响:make a big difference/have a profound influence 情感类: ①感激:grateful/thankful ②幸福:happiness/joy ③羞愧:embarrassing/awkward 【点睛】[高分句型 1]. B When nine-year-old Ella and Cash met at Ocean Heroes Bootcamp in July 2019, they immediately connected. “Kids may be a small part of the population, but we’re 100 percent of the future, and every little action counts.” 4 What do Ella and Cash have in common? C Children’s awareness of pollution. D. Development of new environmental policies. 6. Which of the following can best describe Ella and Cash? A. Curious and adventurous. B. Warm-hearted and generous. C. Supportive and outgoing. D. Responsible and determined. 7. What can be the best title for the text? A. The Cleanup Kids: Small but Powerful B. Friends for Nature: Ella and Cash C. Green Organization: A Non-Profit Project D. Youth in Action: A Path to Change C Sports play a key role in the physical and mental development of children. D Carmakers have made great advances in safety over the last 20 years. C. Importance of digital technologies in cars. D. A worrying problem with an in-car technology. 13. What does the underlined word “them” in paragraph 2 refer to? A. Driving tasks. B. Basic driving tasks. C. Main controls for driving. D. Useful entertainment functions. 14. What is included in paragraph 3? A. Rules. B. Effects. C. Solutions. D. Reasons. 15. What’s the writer’s attitude toward in-car touch screen technology? A. Negative. B. Positive. C. Satisfied. D. Supportive. Find it hard to get started? __________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $
