第一节(满分 15 分)
My Suggestions on the Book-drifting Program
Our school’s book-drifting program is well-received, yet I’ve noticed some issues.
Firstly, many books are damaged during the process of drifting, probably due to the lack of a more effective management system. Secondly, most drifting books are non-fiction, our need for diversity ignored.
Therefore, I suggest our school regularly collect damaged books and repair them timely for future drifting. Additionally, fiction like detective stories, sci-fi and poetry could be included to add to the variety.
Hopefully, my ideas could make our book-drifting program more fruitful. (85 words)
第二节(满分 25 分)
When I returned home and saw it with my own eyes, I broke down. The once lively pub was now a charred skeleton, with its walls blackened and the roof collapsed. The garden was reduced to ashes, the rooms barely recognizable. I stood there, tears streaming down. Craig held my hand tightly, his presence silently supporting me. Then memories of the past, the laughter, the clinking of glasses, the expectant eyes of my grandfather... all emerged in my mind. Not like this, I decided, a determination to keep going on reignited and taking hold. (80 words).
“We’re going to rebuild it,” I said to Craig, firmly. He nodded. The next months witnessed us working tirelessly, pouring our hearts into every detail. Our new design honored the pub’s history while adding modern touches—an even larger beer garden and better facilities. When the reopening day arrived, I stood behind the bar, welcoming everyone. Watching customers chatting and drinking happily, I felt the good old days were back and my grandfather was smiling beside me. It was as if he was saying to me: you carried on our family spirit. (80 words)

Text 1
M: Welcome to The Elephant Bistro. Have you dined with us before?
W: No, this is my first time here.
M: Would you like to sit by the window or somewhere more private?
W: The window sounds nice.
Text 2
M: Hi, Jane. At last! We were getting worried.
W: Yeah, sorry, Mike. Your apartment was hard to find, but your directions helped.
M: Here, let me take your coat. Come in.
Text 3
M: It's freezing outside! What happened to the weather report? I thought this cold front had passed.
W: Yeah, I thought so too. That's what I read online this morning.
Text 4
W: I think you have to accept that Sean's talents as a chef are all tied up with his explosive personality.
M: Oh, I'm perfectly aware that his talents come at a price, but the price is very high.
Text 5
W: How do you practice your music when you live in an apartment?
M: Well, I use headphones while playing my digital piano, so I won't make a lot of noise in the building.
W: I wish my neighbor did the same.
Text 6
W: If we want to increase sales of our new skincare products, we need to be more visible on social media.
M: Why do you think that?
W: Our customers are moving there. And our competitors are already using social media to promote similar products.
M: But what about the costs?
W: I've done a cost analysis. We'll have to increase our advertising budget, but the return will be well worth it.
M: Impressive! Make a plan and we will discuss it later.
Text 7
W: Hello, who is that?
M: Hi, this is Robert. I think that's my mum's phone! She must have left it near the Maple Street bus stop.
W: Yes, I found it here on the ground. I tried to reach you but I don't know the password.
M: Oh, that's kind of you! We're heading back now. Can you hold on to it for a few minutes?
W: Well, just to confirm, how do I know it's yours?
M: Oh, the phone case is pink, with a white cat on it.
W: Yes, that matches! But right now I'm in a hurry to attend a meeting at the Grand Maple Hotel. It's just five minutes' walk from the bus stop. Could we meet at the entrance?
M: Sure! How will we recognize you?
W: I'm wearing a red scarf.
M: OK! See you!
Text 8
W: You can't imagine what a terrible night I had!
M: What happened?
W: I was alone in the house. I usually sleep deeply, even through thunderstorms! But that night, I woke up at about 2 a.m.
M: Why?
W: I heard two people speaking downstairs. And I was sure they were searching for something.
M: What did you do then?
W: I felt really scared, and I reached for my phone to call the police. And they heard me. Then one of them shouted "Let's go!" Luckily, I took a photo of their car by the window as they drove away.
M: Did they steal anything?
W: My laptop.
M: Did the police catch them?
W: Yes. They arrested them yesterday. And I got my laptop back this morning.
Text 9
M: Hi, Dani! Thanks for joining me. When you first decided to homeschool your kid, what concerned you most?
W: Honestly, the money issue. As a single mom, I had to quit the well-paid job as a loan manager. I worried if I could make ends meet while focusing on my daughter's education.
M: Then what do you do to afford homeschooling?
W: Well, we cut back on things like vacations, dining out, and other unnecessary expenses. And at times, I've had to rely on some financial help from my family. They understand me well, given that I don't have a stable job now.
Text 10
W: It can be tough. To recharge myself, I usually do some exercise like yoga and gentle stretching for a couple of uninterrupted hours. Thankfully, my daughter understands this and respects that time. She usually finds something quiet to do, like drawing or reading her own books.
M: What is the best part of homeschooling as a single parent?
W: The strong bond with my daughter. We have quality time together, which is priceless.
M: Oh, that is rewarding, but also demanding.
W: Yes, managing everything alone, definitely.
Text 10
W: Hi, guys! Today, I'd like to share with you my recent trip to Ireland. My first impressions? It was really beautiful—green, and quite rural. There are plenty of wonderful museums, like the National Museum, which houses treasures from ancient Ireland. But what I loved most were the pubs. Guinness was delicious—even if you're not a beer fan, you might just get addicted. The live music in the pubs was fantastic too. However, I hated the weather. I remember it was in the middle of August, but I had to wear a woolly jumper! The weather changed quickly, too. You could wake up to a sunny day, but at midday it began to rain. Then in the afternoon, the sun might come out again. The funniest moment? On my birthday, my friends took me to a restaurant. While we were waiting for our food, Mel Gibson suddenly sat down next to us! You know, he starred in the film Braveheart. I froze. But one of my friends took a photo of us with him in the background. It didn't turn out perfectly, but it's still a crazy memory!

We’ll walk from Wednesday to Friday through the beautiful scenery of the Spanish Pyrenees. The route will take us through a variety of landscapes: first we’ll follow an amazing path along the coast. Then we’ll head away from the coast and walk through hills and forest. We will walk about 15 kilometers per day. It should take us about six to seven hours. Each day’s walking will start from one hotel and finish at the next hotel on the route. We’ll walk at a leisurely speed, so this challenge is no problem if you’re a fit and active person. Previous experience is useful, but it’s not absolutely necessary. We will have an experienced leader who’s fully trained and knows the route.
What will you need to take? The most important item you’ll need is good walking boots. You should buy them well in advance to make sure they fit well. You’ll need a waterproof jacket to keep you dry and warm and walking shorts are a good idea. You will also need a small backpack to carry your lunch and a water bottle.

【原文】 Hi everyone. Today I’d like to share with you my journey into dog rescue. Actually, my journey happened later in life. Growing up in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, I never had a dog or cat due to my mom’s illness. My twenties and thirties were spent moving west for my career and really focusing on that. It wasn’t until my late thirties that my husband, Alex suggested that we get a dog. We both wanted a big dog and agreed that rescuing one would be best. This was my first entry into the world of rescue. We spent the next few weeks working with an animal shelter in los Angeles to find the perfect dog for us. Finally, Spencer came into our lives. Because of Spencer, I would go on to volunteer at the animal shelter for the next two years and my love for dog rescue developed. After two years volunteering work, I got asked to be the animal rescue event director. I was fond of this role. Every weekend I showed our little dogs and interacted with the public. I got to celebrate rescuing over 250 dogs during my time there, as well as adopting two more boys of my own, Junior and Thor. It is really worth while to be at events, meeting the dog and volunteers and celebrating as each lucky dogs finds their forever home.

18. How did the speaker’s grandfather die?
A. Due to a disease. B. During a charity event. C. Because of a plane crash.
19. Why did the speaker decide to skydive?
A. To help some patients. B. To have fun with friends. C. To overcome a fear of heights.
20. What does the speaker think was the best aspect about the skydive?
A. Falling from 2,000 meters. B. Hearing stories about Alzheimer’s. C. Raising a large amount of money.
【答案】18. A 19. A 20. B
【解析】
【原文】M: If you’d told me a year ago that I’d be jumping out of a plane, I’d have laughed. I hated heights. It’s not the kind of thing I enjoy doing with friends! But something changed after my grandad passed away from Alzheimer’s. I wanted to do something meaningful that could help others affected by the same disease. So, I signed up for a charity skydive. I’d never even done a bake sale before!
We watched a safety video and we jumped from 4,000 meters. The free fall lasted for one minute, and we dropped at 200 kilometers per hour. I worked out that meant I fell roughly 3,300 meters before the parachute (降落伞) opened.
It was peaceful. You’d expect panic, but instead I felt calm. Everything looked so small, and yet I felt part of something huge.
The great part? We raised £8,452 — the highest amount anyone in our area has ever raised for Alzheimer’s. But even better than the total was hearing people talk about their experience with this illness. So many had been through the same as my grandad.
I still don’t love heights, so I’ve not overcome that fear. But I’ve learned that sometimes, doing something scary opens doors — and hearts.

M: You mean music, hobbies, clothes.
W: Yeah, all that stuff just seemed meaningless to me. I didn’t want to hang out with the cool kids. I’m just not a cool kid and I don’t want to be.
M: And do you think it’s connected to your family background?
W: Oh definitely. My parents are really quiet. And although there are four kids, we live in a quiet household. We read, we eat together, we’re very respectful of each other’s space and we’re just not into partying.
M: So do you see this as a problem at school, like when you’re trying to make friends.
W: Um, a little bit. It’s not so much a problem, more a feeling that I’m just very different. Like when other teenagers are starting to go out, I’m happier staying in and studying. It’s more a question of looking for similar people, wanting friends who have the same interests, friends like you, actually.

【原文】M: Hello everyone. I’m going to tell you about our trip to the city museum. The museum isn’t far. It’ll only take us about 20 minutes to get there. There’ll be several events during the day, and you’ll have the chance to walk around the museum for at least 50 minutes.
At first, we’ll listen to the museum director, Jane Whitten, for about 30 minutes, telling us about what there is to see. Usually in a museum you’re not allowed to touch what’s on show, but on this visit we are. You’ll all work in groups and each group will be given pots to pick up and look at and think about what they were used for. You’ll study some ancient rings, too, although I’m afraid they’ll stay in their glass case. The museum also has a technology center for education and research.
You’ll be able to find out lots of interesting facts rather than using computers, though. Ipads will be provided, you can work on these to search for information. When you’ve finished your research for the final activity, you’ll do a quiz to see how much you can remember. When we get back to, school I’d like you to design and make something for other students to see. The museum has sent us some of their postcards which can give you ideas for the posters I want you to draw.

Hello everyone, i'm going to tell you about our trip to the city museum. The museum isn't far in lonely. Take us about twenty minutes to get there. There will be several events during the day, and you'll have the chance to walk around the museum for at least fifteen minutes. At first will listen to the museum director, jane, written for about thirty minutes, telling us about what there is to see. Usually in a museum, you're not allowed to touch what's on show, but on this visit we are. You all work in groups, and each group will be given pots to pick up and look at and think about what they were used for. You'll study some ancient rings too, although i'm afraid they'll stay in their glass case. The museum also has a technology center for education and research. You'll be able to find out lots of interesting facts rather than using computers, though ipads will be provided. You can work on these to search for information. When you finish your research for the final activity, you'll do a quiz to see how much you can remember when we get back to school. I'd like you to design and make something for other students to see. The museum has sent to some of their postcards, which can give you ideas for the posters I want you to draw. Growing up in pittsburgh, pennsylvania. I never had a dog or cat due to my mom's illness. My twenties and thirties were spent moving west for my career and really focusing on that. IT wasn't until my late thirties that my husband, alex, suggested that we get a dog. We both wanted a big dog and agreed that rescuing one would be best. This was my first entry into the world of rescue. We spent the next few weeks working with an animal shelter in los Angeles to find the perfect dog for us. Finally, spener came into our lives because of spener. I would go on a volunteer at the animal shelter for the next two years, and my love for dog rescue developed after two years volunteering worked. I got asked to be the animal rescue event director. I was fond of this role. Every weekend, I showed our little dogs and interacted with the public. I got to celebrate rescuing over two hundred fifty dogs during my time there, as well as adopting two more boys of my own junior and thur. IT is really worthwhile to be at events, meeting the dogs and volunteers and celebrating as each lucky dog finds there forever home. Hi everyone. I hated heights. It's not the kind of thing I enjoy doing with friends. But something changed after my granddad passed away from alzheimer's. I wanted to do something meaningful that could help others affected by the same disease. So I signed up for a charity skydive. I'd never even done a big sale before. We watched the safety video, and we jumped from four thousand meters. The free fall lasted for one minute, and we dropped at two hundred kilometers for hour. I worked out that meant I fell roughly three thousand, three hundred meters before the paris he opened. IT was peaceful. You'd expect panic. But instead I felt calm. Everything looked so small. And yet I felt part of something huge, the great part. We raised eight thousand, four hundred fifty two pounds, the highest amount anyone in our area has ever raised for alzheimer's, but even Better than the total was hearing people talk about their experience with this illness. So many had been through the same as my granddad. I still don't love heights, so i've not overcome that fear, but i've learned that sometimes doing something scary opens doors and hearts. I'm honor to talk to your class today about something I know a thing or two about being afraid. As you can see, I was born without arms. Every time I fell down, I was scared that I wouldn't be able to get up. My parents were too poor to afford plastic arms for me, but luckily, one of my doctors, doctor Wilson, showed me how to use my feet to do everything. Once I could do a few things by myself, I didn't feel scared of being alone anymore. In high school, everyone in my class made fun of me every morning. I was afraid of what they would say that was the hardest and darkest time in my life. But my teacher, mrs. Don't made sure I stay focused on my school work. SHE taught me to be strong and confident. Once I realized that I didn't matter what other people thought of me. I wasn't scared of being in the crowds anymore. Now that I have my own successful law company in manchester, I can afford those plastic arms. Maybe I will give them one day, but for now, my missing arms remind me every day that I don't have anything to be afraid of. Thank you, ms. Jackson.
