Hello everyone, our school has decided on a variety of environmental activities. Let me give you an idea about some of these activities. Firstly, mondays and tuesday will be walked to school days. That means everyone will go to school on foot. Anyone living far away may use public transport, but they must walk at least half a kilometer. In this way, the school not only encourages students and teachers to exercise, but IT also helps to reduce air pollution. Secondly, on wednesdays and thursdays, all classes take turns looking after our school garden. After school finishes on fridays, you will have the opportunity to attend lectures about the dangers our environment faces, what the solutions are and what we can all do to be environmentally responsible. The speakers will be either our teachers from our school or scientists from our local community. In addition, there will be a special event once every month. For example, next weekend we are having an art exhibition. All the art students have made some fantastic things from recycled materials. This exhibition is going to be held at the school gym from ten AM to two PM. On both saturday and sunday. That's all for me. Thank you. After her husband left her, a 38-year-old Australian woman decided it was time for a fresh start and moved out of Melbourne. She spent two months living in an Airbnb, which proved costly, and when she started looking for an apartment she could actually afford, she found the places on offer weren’t very attractive. Later, when she visited her aunt at a retirement village and told her that she was looking for a place, the elderly woman asked her if she wanted to try an apartment that had just opened up in the Village. After thinking for a while, she decided to give it a try. It turned out to be the best decision she had ever made.
“I’ve been living in the retirement village for over a year. I’ve stopped considering it a stepping stone to a better place, and I now see it as my home,” the woman said.“I’ve never felt out of place here, and living around people who aren’t in a rush or consumed (消耗) by tech has been great for my mental health.”
Although many people think she would find living in a retirement village tedious, the woman says that in the morning she usually wakes up to the chat of her neighbors, enjoys a cup of coffee, and takes a short walk. Then she takes yoga classes, and even manages to get some paid work done. In the evening, she sits on the steps and has unending conversations with her neighbors. All of them turn her day-to-day routine (日常) into something lively and satisfying.
“My new home has reshaped my life ambitions and the way I view aging,” the woman said. “I’ve found great peace here, and it’s my idea of a wonderful life. It’s comforting to know that the 70s and 80s aren’t so bad after all. As I’ve learned from those around me, you can still volunteer, make friends, and start new hobbies, no matter your age.”
24. What mainly caused the woman to move into the retirement village?
A. The requirement of her elderly aunt.
B. Her money problem after her marriage ended.
C. The need to escape technology-driven society.
D. Her dream of experiencing a special lifestyle.
25. What do the woman’s words in paragraph 2 suggest?
A. She feels there is no place better than the retirement village.
B. She has found peace and belonging in the retirement village.
C. She struggles with the lack of technology in the retirement village.
D. She has met challenges before adapting to the life in the retirement village.
26. What does the underlined word “tedious” in paragraph 3 probably mean?
A. Comfortable. B. Busy. C. Safe. D. Boring.
27. What did the woman use to think of aging?
A. It’s something unpleasant. B. It brings a very lonely experience.
C. It means fewer working opportunities. D. It’s something most people can’t accept.
【答案】24. B 25. B 26. D 27. A

【导语】这是一篇记叙文。澳大利亚一名女子离婚后因经济问题,经姑姑提议住进养老院,一年多来她适应良好,认为这里让自己心态变好,还改变了对衰老的看法。
【24题详解】
细节理解题。根据第一段“After her husband left her, a 38-year-old Australian woman decided it was time for a fresh start and moved out of Melbourne. She spent two months living in an Airbnb, which proved costly, and when she started looking for an apartment she could actually afford, she found the places on offer weren’t very attractive. Later, when she visited her aunt at a retirement village and told her that she was looking for a place, the elderly woman asked her if she wanted to try an apartment that had just opened up in the Village.(一位38岁的澳大利亚女性在丈夫离开后,决定开启新生活,于是搬离了墨尔本。她在爱彼迎(Airbnb)住了两个月,开销很大。当她开始寻找自己负担得起的公寓时,却发现市面上的房源都没什么吸引力。后来,她去养老院看望姨妈,提到自己正在找住处,这位老人便问她是否愿意试试养老院里刚空出来的一间公寓)”可知,她搬入养老院的主要原因是婚姻结束后的经济问题。故选B项。
【25题详解】
推理判断题。根据第二段““I’ve been living in the retirement village for over a year. I’ve stopped considering it a stepping stone to a better place, and I now see it as my home,” the woman said.“I’ve never felt out of place here, and living around people who aren’t in a rush or consumed (消耗) by tech has been great for my mental health.”(“我在这家养老院已经住了一年多了。我不再把这里看作是通往更好住处的跳板,现在我把它当成了自己的家。” 这位女士说道,“我在这里从未感到格格不入,和那些不慌不忙、不被科技产品牵绊的人住在一起,对我的心理健康特别有益。”)”可知,她在养老院找到了平静和归属感。故选B项。
【26题详解】
词句猜测题。根据第三段 “Although many people think she would find living in a retirement village tedious, the woman says that in the morning she usually wakes up to the chat of her neighbors, enjoys a cup of coffee, and takes a short walk. Then she takes yoga classes, and even manages to get some paid work done. In the evening, she sits on the steps and has unending conversations with her neighbors. All of them turn her day-to-day routine (日常) into something lively and satisfying.(尽管很多人觉得她住在养老院会tedious,但这位女士说,早上她通常在邻居的聊天声中醒来,喝杯咖啡,再散会儿步。之后她会去上瑜伽课,甚至还能完成一些有报酬的工作。到了晚上,她会坐在台阶上,和邻居们聊个不停。这一切都让她的日常生活变得既充实又愉快)”可知,这里“tedious”与“生动满足”相反,意为“无聊的”。故选D项。
【27题详解】
推理判断题。根据第四段“It’s comforting to know that the 70s and 80s aren’t so bad after all.(知道七八十岁也没那么糟糕,这让人很安心)”可推断,她以前认为衰老“是不愉快的事”。故选A项。
C
Labubu dolls are hard to find. Even at the giant flagship store of their maker Pop Mart, in Shanghai, customers are told they need to wait a week or longer. The lovely creatures, sold in “blind boxes” so that buyers don’t know which one they will get, are loved not only by Chinese children but also by famous people at home and abroad.
For many years, Chinese shoppers liked to follow foreign trends in fashion, make-up, hotels and other areas. But now, they are turning to local luxury brands (奢侈品品牌), high-end make-up labels and milk tea shops. Furthermore, many of these brands are winning fans in other countries. Chinese brands are beginning to penetrate international markets with their unique products.
As consumers have become more careful about spending, cheap but good-quality local brands have grown popular. But lower prices are not the only reason for the love of Chinese brands. In many cases shoppers are paying the same or even more for local products. For instance, the best-selling drinks at Chagee, a tea chain (连锁) that went public in New York in April, are tea lattes (拿铁) that sell for 15-20 yuan ($2-3), almost the same as Starbucks’s top drinks in China.
Chinese consumers are also now far less crazy about foreign goods simply because they are foreign. The rapid rise of Laopu proves that. Instead of copying Western style, both Laopu and Chagee have shown off their Chineseness. It has worked. The competition is not limited to China. Pop Mart now has stores in more than 20 countries, including at least 37 in America. Chagee will have more than 1,300 shops outside China by the end of the year, up from almost none four years ago.
Experts believe that the more foreign recognition these brands get, the more popular they become within China. The popularity on Western social media over Labubu dolls is thought to have made them even more famous at home.
28. What’s the purpose of the first paragraph?
A. To introduce the topic. B. To present an argument.
C. To offer a solution. D. To give an opinion.
29. What does the underlined word “penetrate” in paragraph 2 most likely mean?
A. Avoid. B. Enter. C. Ignore. D. Destroy.
30. What does the example of Chagee’s tea lattes show?
A. Price matters most to consumers.
B. Cheap local brands are popular in China.
C. Some local brands achieve high pricing.
D. Chinese tea chains outperform foreign ones.
31. Which of the following is the best title for the text?
A. Pop Mart: A Symbol of Chinese Toys

推理判断题。根据第一段“Labubu dolls are hard to find. Even at the giant flagship store of their maker, Pop Mart, in Shanghai, customers are told they need to wait a week or longer. The lovely creatures, sold in “blind boxes” so that buyers don’t know which one they will get, are loved not only by Chinese children but also by famous people at home and abroad.(拉布布娃娃很难找到。即使在制造商Pop Mart位于上海的大型旗舰店,顾客也被告知需要等待一周或更长时间。这些可爱的动物被装在“盲盒”里出售,买家不知道他们会得到哪个,它们不仅受到中国孩子的喜爱,也受到国内外名人的喜爱)”并结合下文对中国消费者由对外国产品的喜爱转为青睐本土产品现象的介绍推知,本段的作用是引出文章话题。故选A。

词句猜测题。根据第二段中“Chinese brands are beginning to penetrate international markets with their unique products.(中国品牌正开始以其独特的产品penetrate国际市场)”中的“with their unique products(以它们独特的产品)”可知,此处是指中国品牌以其独特的产品打入国际市场。由此猜测,划线词penetrate意为“进入”,与enter同义。故选B。

【31题详解】
主旨大意题。通读全文,并结合第二段“For many years, Chinese shoppers liked to follow foreign trends in fashion, make-up, hotels and other areas. But now, they are turning to local luxury brands (奢侈品品牌), high-end make-up labels and milk tea shops. Furthermore, many of these brands are winning fans in other countries. Chinese brands are beginning to penetrate international markets with their unique products.(多年来,中国消费者喜欢在时尚、化妆品、酒店和其他领域追随外国潮流。
D
Most of us know that music can brighten daily life, turning boring tasks into enjoyable moments and making exercise more exciting. But what about listening to music after an experience? Can it affect how well we remember it? A recent study from UCLA (University of California, Los Angeles) suggests that music can indeed shape memory — depending on the emotions it produces.
The researchers showed volunteers images of common objects such as oranges, computers and telephones. After viewing about 100 pictures, participants listened to 10 minutes of classical music. Once their emotional response returned to normal, they took a memory test. Some images were exactly the same, some a little different and others entirely new. Participants had to tell whether each object had been seen before and if it was exactly the same or different.
The results showed that music did not improve memory overall. Instead, its effect depended on the listener’s emotional response. Neither the style of music — whether happy or sad — nor its familiarity played a decisive role. What mattered most was the level of emotional response the music caused. Individuals who experienced a medium level of emotional response showed better memory for details, especially in recognizing similar but not exactly the same images. Those with very strong or very weak emotional response had worse detail-based memory but better memory for the general idea of the experience.
According to the researchers, these findings suggest that music can help sharpen detailed memory when it creates just the right amount of emotional response. “This discovery may have practical applications in education and treatment. For instance, music that causes a medium level of emotion could help learning if played after studying. It might also support individuals with Alzheimer’s or anxiety disorders by helping them manage how they remember past experiences,” they said.
However, since people respond differently to music, personalized playlists may be necessary. Further research is needed to develop targeted musical methods that can improve — or soften — specific types of memory. With additional support, music could become a powerful, safe tool for improving memory and supporting mental health.
32. What did the participants do immediately after viewing the images for the first time?
A. They listened to classical music. B. They took a memory test.
C. They described the images they saw. D. They discussed their emotional responses.
33. What advantage did participants with a medium emotional response have?
A. They felt no stress at all. B. They finished the test faster.
C. They remembered more details. D. They could draw pictures easily.
34. What is the researchers’ attitude toward the use of music in medical treatment?
A. Hopeful. B. Unconcerned. C. Doubtful. D. Critical.
35. What is the main idea of the text?
A. Music makes life enjoyable. B. Classical music benefits memory.
C. Personal playlists aid mental health. D. Music affects memory through emotions.

The Blue Ribbon of Courage
The moving truck faded into the distance, leaving twelve-year-old Leo and his family standing in front of their new, and much smaller, house. Leaving his friends and the familiar streets of his old city was tough enough, but the quietness of this new neighborhood felt heavy and lonely.
Days turned into a week. Leo spent most of his time indoors, watching the world from his window. He noticed an old man, Mr. Thompson, who lived next door. He was always in his garden, tending to his roses with a serious expression. He seemed nice but a little hard to read. Leo’s mom encouraged him to go over and say hello, but every time Leo thought about it, a wave of shyness washed over him. What if the old man didn’t like kids? What if he said something wrong?
One afternoon, a sudden gust of wind slammed Leo’s window shut. He didn’t think much of it until he realized his house keys were locked inside. Panic set in. His parents wouldn’t be back for hours. The only person around was Mr. Thompson, humming a tune and working in his garden.
Leo’s heart pounded. He had no choice. Taking a deep breath, he walked slowly across the lawn, his hands trembling slightly. Just as he was about to speak, another strong wind blew, knocking over a beautiful glass vase next to his front door. It broke into a million pieces on the stone path.
Mr. Thompson turned around, his eyes widening at the mess. Leo froze, his apology for the accident stuck in his throat. This was a disaster. He wasn’t just a shy boy now; he was a destructive troublemaker.

Did any of the pieces cut you?” he asked, his voice much kinder than Leo had imagined. Leo, still trembling, shook his head and stammered an apology, explaining about the wind and his locked keys. A warm smile crept onto the old man’s wrinkled face. “A little bad luck often brings good luck. That vase was old, but a new friend is valuable. Come, let’s call your parents first and then see about fixing this little situation.” He placed a reassuring hand on Leo’s shoulder, guiding him gently towards the house. The heavy knot of fear in Leo’s chest began to loosen.
Later that evening, holding a small box from Mr. Thompson, Leo stood by his window again, but this time he felt different. Inside the box was a single, beautiful rose seedling, its roots carefully wrapped, and tied with a slender blue ribbon. A note card read: “For your new garden. A little courage often blooms into something beautiful. – Your neighbor, Sam Thompson.” Looking out, Leo saw the warm light in Mr. Thompson’s kitchen window. The silence of the neighborhood was no longer heavy; it was peaceful and full of possibility. He knew tomorrow he would go out and plant this rose, and perhaps ask Mr. Thompson for gardening advice. A smile spread across his face. He wasn’t lonely anymore; he was home.
范文二:
Mr. Thompson’s face softened as he looked from the broken pieces to Leo’s terrified expression. “Don’t worry, son. It’s just an old vase,” he said, his voice calm and warm. He noticed Leo’s pale face and asked gently, “Are you all right? You look like you’ve seen a ghost.” Leo stammered that he was locked out and the wind caused the accident. Mr. Thompson smiled, “Well, it seems we both have a problem to solve. First, let’s get you a drink and call your mom.” He led Leo inside, carefully stepping around the shining fragments on the path.
Later that evening, holding a small box from Mr. Thompson, Leo stood by his window again, but this time he felt different. In the box was a tiny rose plant with a blue ribbon tied around its pot. A note said: “To my new helper. Let’s grow this together. - Mr. T.” Leo looked at the old man’s house, where a light was still on in the garden. He realized that this new place wasn’t so lonely after all. He smiled, thinking about tomorrow when he would help Mr. Thompson clean up the broken pieces and learn how to plant his first rose.

C The need to escape technology-driven society.
C
Labubu dolls are hard to find. Even at the giant flagship store of their maker, Pop Mart, in Shanghai, customers are told they need to wait a week or longer.
D Chinese tea chains outperform foreign ones.
31. Which of the following is the best title for the text?
A. Pop Mart: A Symbol of Chinese Toys
B. Why Milk Tea Brands Are Popular in China
C. From Foreign Trends to Local Love: Chinese Brands Shine
D. The History of Chinese Luxury Brands

According to the researchers these findings suggest that music can help sharpen detailed memory when it creates just the right amount of emotional response.
