Violations may lead to restricted access. Cellphone Usage Turn cell phones off or set to silent mode as you enter the library. Out of respect for others, if you must use a cell phone while in a library, move to one of the following general locations if your conversation will be more than a few seconds: ●public space away from quiet study areas ●study rooms ●lobbies or entrances to libraries (that are not part of the main library) Any person who does not follow this policy may be asked to leave the library. Children in the Library The resources of the Libraries are primarily intended for use by Boston College students, staff and faculty. However, young children accompanied by an adult are welcome in the libraries. Parents or adult guardians who bring young children to the library are responsible for their protection and safety and must never leave children unattended. Children cannot be monitored and supervised by the staff; therefore the safety of unattended children cannot be guaranteed. Food & Drink Food is limited to small items which are generally consumed individually while seated at tables or study rooms. Drinks in covered containers and water bottles are allowed. Not permitted: ●Meals or messy, strong-smelling foods (e.g. pizza, salads, sandwiches and soup) . ●Group meals where food is shared by more than one person. ●Delivery of food to the library. 1. Where can a person take a call for a few minutes in the library? A. At a quiet study desk. B. In a study room. C. In a lobby of the main library. D. Near the reading room. 2. Who should answer for the safety of young children in the library? A. Library staff members. B. The child’s school teacher. C. Campus security officers. D. The accompanying adult. 3. Which of the following behaviors violates the library’s Food & Drink policy? A. Drinking from a covered coffee cup. B. Eating a chocolate bar at a study room. C. Sharing a box of donuts with study partners. D. Keeping a sealed bottle of juice in the bag. B I was walking home when a well-dressed man politely stopped me. “Could you tell me which way to Bloor and...” He struggled to get the next word out with a pained look, but I knew better than to finish his sentence for him. “... Bathurst?” he said after several seconds of trying. When I answered, he told me that he didn’t actually need to know. He was practising stuttering (口吃) openly, he explained, hoping to become more confident doing so around strangers. “Are you doing that because it’s National Stuttering Awareness Day?” I asked with excitement, eager to connect with other stutterers. When he asked how I knew that, I said I grew up with a stutter. He nodded, asking hopefully: “So your stutter has magically disappeared?” I paused. I understood why he assumed this — I sounded quite articulate. But even as we spoke, my stutter had influenced my speech, and that’s why I’d misnamed International as National to avoid the tricky front sound that I continue to struggle with. Though the severity of my stutter has decreased with age, it has shaped my identity and affected my life tremendously, the way that I speak, interact and move around in the world. Some define stutter as a disability because it is as constant and out of control as blindness or other disabilities. There’s no pill, no surgery, no way to get rid of it, no “recovering” from it. But there is recovering from the shame and self-hatred that result from it. The treatment for stutter shouldn’t be centered around removing a person’s stutter, but rather on reducing one’s negative thoughts and behaviors surrounding it. As for me, I’d say that my stutter has not “magically disappeared” because I’ve simply found ways to conceal it. But I have a better therapy now — I will grow alongside it, an identity inseparable from the way that I speak. Thinking about this, I wanted to speak from the bottom of my heart to the man, who looked at me hopefully: “__________” 4. What can we learn about the decent man? A. He had lost his way and asked about the direction. B. He wanted to be braver when talking to unfamiliar people. C. He was interrupted by the author who finished his sentence. D. He was practising giving speeches fluently on open occasions. 5. Which is closest in meaning to “articulate” in paragraph 2? A. Fluent. B. Sensible. C. Different. D. Relaxed. 6. Which of the following can best describe the author? A. Adaptable and optimistic. B. Outgoing and ambitious. C. Humorous and reflective. D. Educated and responsible. 7. What might the author say in the last paragraph? A. Yes. I have got rid of stutter with a more positive attitude. B. No. There is no recovering from stutter and I have just hidden it. C. Yes. As I grow older, I rarely stutter now and people don't know I stuttered. D. No. I will always live with stutter because it is a part of me which I gladly accept. C If your partner gets down on one knee to propose, or you get a call with the job offer, your reaction might be to shout it from the rooftops. But new research suggests that keeping good news a secret before telling someone else could make people feel more energized. “Decades of research on secrecy suggest it is bad for our well-being. However, this work has only examined keeping secrets that have negative effects for our lives. Is secrecy inherently bad for our well-being or do the negative effects of secrecy tend to originate from keeping negative secrets?” asked lead researcher of the latest research Michael Slepian, PhD, a professor of business at Columbia University. In the experiment, some participants were asked to reflect on the good news they kept secret, while others reflected on good news that was not secret, and then rated how energized the news made them feel and whether they intended to share the news with someone else. The researchers found that the participants who reflected on their positive secrets reported feeling more energized than the participants who thought about their good news that was not secret. The research nuances our understanding of the science of secrets. Negative secrets tend to deplete us and have also been linked to anxiety and depression. Positive secrets, however, seem to have an energizing effect and make people alive. One factor could be that people often have different motivations for keeping good news to themselves. Those with positive secrets were much more likely to keep quiet for internal reasons, not because they felt any outside pressures. “People sometimes go to great lengths to plan revealing a positive secret to make it all the more exciting. This kind of surprise can be intensely enjoyable, but surprise is the most fleeting of our emotions, ” Slepian said. “Having extra time days, weeks or even longer-to imagine the joyful surprise on another person’s face allows us more time with this exciting moment, even if only in our own minds.” 8. What did Michael Slepian think of the previous research on secrecy? A. One-sided. B. Pointless. C. Convincing. D. Pioneering. 9. In the experiment, some participants were more energized because ______. A. they were optimistic and cheerful. B. they were free from secrets. C. they had undisclosed positive secrets. D. they had shared good news with others. 10. What does the underlined word “deplete” in paragraph 4 mean? A. Spoil. B. Exhaust. C. Confuse. D. Panic. 11. According to the last paragraph, what did Slepian suggest readers do? A. Never reveal a secret casually. B. Let your imagination run wild. C. Be creative when surprising others. D. Delay sharing a positive secret. D How much stress is good for an athlete? Surprisingly, since modern, professional sport of all sorts now seems to be in the hands of computers, no one knows. The reason is that, to avoid decreases in performance of equal and opposite magnitude (量级), top athletes are rarely willing to carry even the tiniest monitoring devices when in competition. And when they are not in competition such measurements would be meaningless. However, two researchers, Lu Yunfeng and Zhong Songfa, think they have found a way. Dr Lu’s eyes brightened when watching the 2020 Olympic Games on television. He noticed that in the archery contests, competitors’ heart rates were shown as they stood at the mark and shot. Heart rate is well known as an indicator of psychological stress, so he saw this as an opportunity. When they dug into the matter, the two researchers found that 122 of the 128 archers in the games had agreed to have their heart rates measured. The trick was that, since competitors were unchangeable, their heart rates could be monitored remotely by a technique called photo plethysmography, which registers changes in the reflectivity (反射率) of skin caused by flushing (脸红) when the heart pumps. Altogether, they were able to match heart rate to score for 2,247 shots. Overall, archers with higher heart rates had lower scores and those with lower rates, higher ones. The average rate for an archer who hit ten-ring was 134.2 beats per minute. It was 135.7 for nine-ring. And for eight-ring it was 137.9. Overall, Dr Zhong and Dr Lu calculated that each extra heartbeat per minute resulted in a 0.004 point decrease in score. These findings support the theory that the performance of even some of the world’s most outstanding athletes declines as they experience increased stress. Whether that is unique to those who need a steady aim to win, or also applies to athletes who have to run around as they compete, remains to be seen. 12. Why do top athletes refuse to carry monitoring devices in competition? A. Because they think the measurements are useless. B. Because they fear they will affect their performance. C. Because they think devices will increase their stress level. D. Because they think computers are much more trustworthy. 13. What does Paragraph 2 mainly talk about? A. The findings of the research. B. The process of the research. C. The features of the research. D. The inspiration of the research. 14. What does the research focus on? A. Whether monitoring techniques are necessary. B. Why athletes’ heart rates decline during the game. C. How stress level influences athletes’ performance. D. What sharpens athletes’ performance in the game. 15. What does the author think of the research? A. It requires further research. B. It is far from satisfactory. C. It emphasizes a steady aim. D. It applies to various athletes. The Power of Peers Do birds of a feather really flock together? People do tend to choose friends who are similar to them. Many behaviors spread socially. Activities in certain brain areas change when other people are around. ____16____ You can use the power of social relationships to gain healthier habits — and motivate others to do the same. ____17____ Teens are especially responsive to peer influence. At the same time, the reward system in the teen brain becomes extra sensitive. Teens are just learning to explore the social world. Understanding other people’s values and being influenced by them are important parts of socializing. A research shows that even just having another peer around can change the reward response in the brain and also the risk-taking tendencies of teenagers. Some people seem to be more easily influenced than others and more sensitive to feeling included or excluded by others. ____18____ But it’s also a time that peer influence can help teens thrive if it gets them more involved with their community or helps them learn behaviors to get along with others. It’s the quality of friendships — not quantity — that really makes the difference. Friendships you feel you want to let go of may be low quality. ____19____ High quality friendships provide understanding support, and recognition of your self-worth. These types of friendships are more steady and satisfying. Spending time with friends can be especially helpful for people. Noticing that our behavior is influenced by other people, we can be intentional and try to focus on the people who are doing the things we want to get into ourselves. ____20____ A. Adolescence is such a risky period. B. That can affect what you choose to do. C. Peer pressure can sometimes lead to competition. D. People care about what others think across all different age groups. E. They are linked to poor academic performance and behavioral issues. F. Anabia, an 11-year-old girl, was excited because today was the drawing contest at her school. Anabia was really good at drawing and usually got the highest marks in art. Her teachers would often ask her to make posters for school plays and call on her during free periods to help with cuttings, drawing, shading, colouring and much more. There was an art competition taking place in school and Anabia had worked really hard and wanted to win it. But there was one thing that was disturbing her today. Recently, a new girl, Rida, had joined her class. She was also interested in art but she was not as good at drawing as Anabia was. Miss Saima, the art teacher, helped Rida and taught her tips and tricks to improve her drawing skill. And now Rida was also considered among the best artists in grade six. Rida was quick, smart and intelligent. Anabia became jealous of Rida’s intelligence and felt that the new girl would be tough to beat. So that day, for the art competition, Miss Saima took all the students to the art room, told them their roll numbers and gave important instructions. Anabia’s roll number was 16, while Rida was number 17. The bell rang, indicating the beginning of the contest. Miss Saima wrote on the board: make a scene of a sunset with a flowing river and a sailing boat. Anabia knew that the best tools to make a sunset were oil pastels (油画棒). Anabia started to look for her oil pastels in her art bag. Then, after looking through the bag, she remembered that she had left them at home. Immediately, she got up to tell Miss Saima. Miss Saima was disappointed at Anabia’s carelessness and told her that she could not help her, as it was her responsibility to come prepared for the contest that had been announced a week in advance. Anabia’s best friends were also there, but none of them offered to share anything, much to Anabia’s surprise and disappointment. Anabia’ s eyes filled with tears. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Then Rida held Anabia’s hand, and the two girls waited for the winners to be announced. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $ 大连王府高级中学2025—2026学年上学期第一学段考试 高一英语试卷 考试时间:120分钟 第一部分 听力(共两节,满分30分) 做题时,先将答案标在试卷上。 1.How much is the admission for a student above 12? 根据文章第一段内容“He was practising stuttering openly, he explained, hoping to become more confident doing so around strangers.(他解释说,他正在公开练习口吃,希望在陌生人面前能更自信。)” 根据划线词前文“He nodded, asking hopefully: ‘So your stutter has magically disappeared?’(他点了点头,满怀希望地问道:“这么说,你的口吃神奇地消失了?”)” 故选A项。 根据文章末尾段内容“But I have a better therapy now—I will grow alongside it, an identity inseparable from the way that I speak.(但我现在有了更好的治疗方法——我将与它一起成长,一种与我说话方式密不可分的身份。)”可知,作者已经接受自己口吃这一事实;同时文章第四段内容“But there is recovering from the shame and self-hatred that result from it. The treatment for stutter shouldn’t be centered around removing a person’s stutter, but rather on reducing one’s negative thoughts and behaviors surrounding it(但从由此产生的羞耻和自我憎恨中恢复过来是有可能的。治疗口吃不应该以消除一个人的口吃为中心,而是要减少一个人围绕口吃的消极想法和行为。)”可推知,作者已经不再因为口吃而消极,羞耻和自我憎恨了,有了积极乐观的态度。由此推知,作者是一个适应力强,乐观派的人。故选A项。 根据前文内容“As for me, I’d say that my stutter has not ‘magically disappeared’ because I’ve simply found ways to conceal it. But I have a better therapy now—I will grow alongside it, an identity inseparable from the way that I speak.(至于我,我想说我的口吃并没有“神奇地消失”,因为我只是找到了隐藏它的方法。但我现在有了更好的治疗方法——我将与它一起成长,一种与我说话方式密不可分的身份。)”可知,作者已经接受了“口吃”这一身份特征,并且自己在表达方面已经“隐藏”了这一特征,可以带着这个特征正常自信地生活。由此推知,作者想要告诉这个人“不。我将永远带着口吃生活,因为这是我欣然接受的一部分。”故选D项。 C If your partner gets down on one knee to propose, or you get a call with the job offer, your reaction might be to shout it from the rooftops. A 9. C 10. B 11. 根据文章第二段“Decades of research on secrecy suggest it is bad for our well-being. However, this work has only examined keeping secrets that have negative effects for our lives. Is secrecy inherently bad for our well-being or do the negative effects of secrecy tend to originate from keeping negative secrets?”(几十年来对保密的研究表明,保密对我们的健康有害。 根据文章第三段“The researchers found that the participants who reflected on their positive secrets reported feeling more energized than the participants who thought about their good news that was not secret.”(研究人员发现,反思他们积极秘密的参与者比思考他们不是秘密的好消息的参与者感到更有活力。) 根据文章第四段“Negative secrets tend to deplete us and have also been linked to anxiety and depression.”(消极的秘密往往会deplete,也与焦虑和抑郁症有关。) 根据文章最后一段“People sometimes go to great lengths to plan revealing a positive secret to make it all the more exciting. This kind of surprise can be intensely enjoyable, but surprise is the most fleeting of our emotions”(人们有时会不遗余力地计划透露一个积极的秘密,让它变得更加令人兴奋。 和“Having extra time days, weeks or even longer-to imagine the joyful surprise on another person’s face allows us more time with this exciting moment, even if only in our own minds.”(有额外的时间——几天,几周甚至更长的时间——想象别人脸上的喜悦惊喜,让我们有更多的时间享受这个激动人心的时刻,即使只是在我们自己的脑海中。) D。 D How much stress is good for an athlete? B 13. D 14. C 15. 根据第一段中的“The reason is that, to avoid decreases in performance of equal and opposite magnitude, top athletes are rarely willing to carry even the tiniest monitoring devices when in competition.(原因是,为了避免成绩出现等量或相反幅度的下降,顶级运动员在比赛中很少愿意携带哪怕是最小的监控设备。)” 根据文章第二段“However, two researchers, Lu Yunfeng and Zhong Songfa, think they have found a way. Dr Lu’s eyes brightened when watching the 2020 Olympic Games on television. He noticed that in the archery contests, competitors’ heart rates were shown as they stood at the mark and shot. Heart rate is well known as an indicator of psychological stress, so he saw this as an opportunity.(然而,两位研究人员,卢云峰和钟松发,认为他们已经发现了一个方法。 根据第三段“The trick was that, since competitors were unchangeable, their heart rates could be monitored remotely by a technique called photo plethysmography, which registers changes in the reflectivity (反射率) of skin caused by flushing (脸红) when the heart pumps.( 其中的诀窍在于,由于运动员是不可改变的,他们的心率可以通过一种被称为“光电脉搏描记术”的技术远程监控,这种技术可以记录心脏跳动时皮肤潮红引起的反射率变化。)”和文章第四段“Overall, archers with higher heart rates had lower scores and those with lower rates, higher ones.(总的来说,心率高的弓箭手得分低,心率低的得分高。)” 根据最后一段中的“Whether that is unique to those who need a steady aim to win, or also applies to athletes who have to run around as they compete, remains to be seen.(这是否只适用于那些需要坚定目标才能获胜的人,还是也适用于那些在比赛中不得不跑来跑去的运动员,还有待观察。)” 故选A。 The Power of Peers Do birds of a feather really flock together? ____19____ High quality friendships provide understanding, support, and recognition of your self-worth. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】 Anabia’ s eyes filled with tears.
