Here is our reading list for this topic. Can We Help? This is a photo-driven nonfiction book that follows real kids as they tutor younger students, help train service dogs, and grow produce for food banks, showing in vivid images and simple words how children can make immediate and practical differences in the community. Each Kindness This is a moving picture book about kindness that effectively illustrates how individual actions can have a meaningful impact. Through its simple language and vivid, realistic illustrations, this book serves as a powerful tool to promote discussions about caring for others and developing empathy. To Change a Planet With thoughtfulness, truthfulness, and beauty, this book demonstrates the importance of caring for our planet. Eye-catching explosions of color on every page create an amazing visual narrative that invites readers to find and follow the same characters through their daily lives and ultimately to a climate march in Washington, DC, where their storylines come together. What Do You Do with a Problem? This is the story of a persistent (反复出现的) problem and of a child who isn’t quite so sure what to make of it. The longer he avoids the problem, the bigger it seems to get. But when the child finally gathers the courage to face it, the problem turns out to be something quite different indeed. 21. What can we know about the students in Can We Help? A. They prefer working with adults. B. They come from farmer families. C They are professional dog trainers. D. They serve the community after school. 22. Which book tells the story of supporting a global cause? A. Can We Help? B. Each Kindness C. To Change a Planet D. What Do You Do with a Problem? 23. What does the last book suggest about the child’s problem? A. It becomes tougher when avoided. B. It can be solved by reading books. C. It is too complex to understand. D. It disappears if left untreated. Martha Siede, who has lived with dystonic cerebral palsy (肌张力障碍型脑瘫) just since she was born, shares her powerful story in the book In Pursuit of “Normal”. As a disabled reader, I was delighted, relieved, and lit up with encouragement and connection while reading this book. I especially appreciated the way Martha lays out our struggles frankly because of how frequently we encounter them. “The hospital is where you would think disabilities would be comfortable and accepted,” she writes, “but it does not work. It is like trying to fit a square peg in a round hole.” Martha’s experiences reflected my own frustration there: narrow doorways and crowded spaces that were difficult for me to navigate. Throughout each stage of her life, Martha excels in fair, inclusive environments and struggles greatly otherwise. My preferred adaptation explored in this book is that of clothing companies who advertise by using photos in which models are seated so that wheelchair users can picture how it will look on their bodies. Martha makes a clear, easy-to-follow distinction between when she gets the kind of support that makes her life more equal, and when she does not. Recounting these hardships never feels like a lecture or a reframing of history. Instead, Martha has written something that feels honest and strikes a balance between serious health concerns and conversations where she’s direct about some tough topics. This tone is very true to my experience of living with depression and disability. This book will guide not only disabled people but also their caregivers. A lot of valuable advice and life lessons can be learned from this book. Her candid account of struggles and achievements makes her story a source of inspiration for others, showing that anything is possible with a sense of humor and determination. It’s not just a tale of survival; it’s a testament (证明) to her strength and resolve. 24. Why does the author quote Martha’s words in paragraph 2? A To arouse readers’ care for the disabled. B. To reveal the poor service of the hospital. C. To explain the cause of Martha’s frustration. D. To demonstrate one issue faced by the disabled. 25. What’s the author’s attitude towards using photos of seated models? A Ambiguous. B. Dismissive. C. Favorable. D. Indifferent. 26. What does the author think of In Pursuit of “Normal”? A It is boring but practical. B. It is classic and moving. C. It is abstract but engaging. D. It is inspiring and influential. 27. What is the purpose of the text? A. To teach life lessons. B. To provide inspiration for writers. C. To recommend a book. D. To emphasize the power of humor. Jade Benjamin-Chung, an assistant professor at the Stanford School of Medicine, worked with her coworkers to analyze the impact of hygiene (卫生) interventions on health outcomes in middle — and low-income Bangladeshi households. They found many common strategies used to protect children from disease weren’t as effective as expected. Feeling curious, Benjamin-Chung and her coworkers identified a potential reason. Around 70% of rural homes in Bangladesh have soil-packed floors. As young kids eat and play on the floor, they often absorb tiny soil-based parasites (寄生虫) that spread disease. So they thought about the concrete floors, which could create a space easier to clean and reduce pathogen (病原体) spread. Benjamin-Chung mentioned their idea to Sarah Billington, an expert on concrete and building materials from the Stanford Doerr School of Sustainability. When Billington heard the team’s idea of broadly replacing soil-packed floors with concrete, she worried the approach could have unintended consequences for the climate due to heavy carbon emissions (排放) from concrete production. So Billington invited other Stanford experts into the fold to understand why concrete was effective in reducing pathogen spread and design low-emission concrete alternatives that kept those helpful properties. They wanted to develop a mix using materials that’ re easily found in countries like Bangladesh. Finally, one possible material was recycled fly ash, a byproduct of burning coal. The concrete mix was affordable, durable and produced fewer emissions. Then they did an experiment where they hardened concrete test tiles (砖) made with alternative “green” concrete and then some pathogens were put into the tiles to measure how well they survived on the surface. The team’s findings suggest the pathogens have similar rates of survival on traditional concrete mix tiles and “green” alternative fly ash tiles. “This project could be a model for how to improve public health with sustainability baked in at the beginning,” said Benjamin-Chung. 28. What did Benjamin-Chung and her coworkers focus on initially? A. The bad influences of concrete. B. Disease spread in the neighborhood. C. Hygiene practices in specific families. D. Recycling methods of fly ash. 29. What made Billington invite other experts in? A. Her lack of knowledge of pollution. B. Her worries about health outcomes. C. Her struggle with pathogen resistance. D. Her concern about climate impacts. 30. What can we infer from the last paragraph? A. The alternative is effective at reducing disease spread. B. Traditional concrete does more harm to people’s health. C. The study helps reduce the cost of healthcare in Bangladesh. D. The study offers good educational resources to medical schools. 31. What could be a suitable title for the text? A. Strategies for Bangladeshi Public Health B. Sustainable Concrete for Healthier Homes C. Hygiene Interventions in Low-income Homes D. Pathogens Spread through Building Materials Quick: what’s your best friend’s phone number? Don’t feel bad if you couldn’t answer off the top of your head. You have no reason to commit phone numbers to memory: it’s just there in your phone. Or perhaps you once had a phone book to store them. In either case, an object does the remembering for you. “Prosthetic memory” (人工记忆) is nothing new. Writing itself has been a means of storing information. Yet the information revolution has generated more data than ever before. We are flooded with information. We’re creating more of it, and keeping more of it. The storage capacity of the human brain has since been eclipsed. No wonder, then, that we’re increasingly dependent on memory prostheses, from libraries to smartphones. Not everyone thinks this trend in external memory is good. Historically, memory prostheses were expensive. As technologies such as printing and photography become more affordable, sharing experiences with others is easier than ever. So every breakfast, every sunset, every encounter with a cat finds its way on to social media. And here comes the worry. When we devote ourselves to capturing and sharing the world in this way, something immensely valuable is lost; when recording so much of our lives, we’re forgetting to actually live them, and so disconnect ourselves from experience. But is our social media-driven transformation wholly bad? If we’re still creating and sharing memories like this, perhaps this is because we’ve not had sufficient time to learn how to do these things without thinking about what we’re doing. It is easy to ignore that the mass social media era is less than a decade old. That’s just a short blink (眨眼) in human history, yet it has totally changed how we live. I suspect we’re not far off from being directly faced with experience yet with the ability to share experience in ways less bounded by geography and time. After all, technology can protect all the moments of a life that would otherwise be lost. 32. What can be inferred from paragraph 1? A. Technology weakens our brains. B. We are burdened with phone numbers. C. We rely more on tools to memorize. D. Technology distances us from our friends. 33. What does the underlined word “eclipsed” in paragraph 2 mean? A. Improved. B. Undervalued. C. Restricted. D. Outperformed. 34. What negative effect does online sharing bring about? A. An overflow of posts. B. High cost of digital devices. C. Addiction to the virtual world. D. Disregard for authentic experience. 35. What does the author advise us to do in the last paragraph? A. Have faith in human brains. B. Take time to adapt to digital age. C. Quicken the pace of development. D. Make efforts to enhance memory. Do you remember when someone would be cruel to you at school and you would come home crying? They shared a special bond, and despite the distance, they remained in constant communication through letters and phone calls. Lily had been a constant source of inspiration and encouragement for Sophia, guiding her through the challenges of her academic journey. As Sophia was busy preparing for her final exams, she received a letter from her mother, informing her that Lily had been hospitalized due to a sudden illness. The news struck Sophia with a mixture of concern and sadness, as she had always looked up to her grandmother as a source of strength. Feeling concerned and anxious, Sophia decided to make the long journey back home to visit her grandmother. She knew that her exams were important, but she also understood that her family needed her support during this difficult time. When she arrived at the hospital, she was relieved to see Lily in stable condition but visibly weakened. Over the next few days, Sophia spent every spare moment at her grandmother’s bedside, offering her support and comfort. The hospital staff and other family members were amazed at the strong bond between them, which seemed to transcend (超越) their generational differences. As they spent time together, Lily shared stories from her youth, recounting her own experiences in college and the challenges she had faced. She spoke of her passion for learning, the friendships she had established, and the importance of resilience (韧性) in overcoming obstacles. She also offered valuable life lessons and wisdom, reminding Sophia of the importance of maintaining a balance between her academic pursuits and personal relationships. Their conversations deepened the connection between them, and Sophia felt grateful for the opportunity to learn from her grandmother’s experiences. Throughout her stay, Sophia also took on the responsibility of helping her mother care for Lily, assisting with her medical appointments and ensuring that her needs were met. The experience allowed her to develop a newfound appreciation for the sacrifices her mother and grandmother had made for their family. As she returned to college, she carried with her a deep sense of gratitude and determination to make them proud. Inspired by her grandmother’s words, Sophia made a promise to herself. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ A few weeks after returning to college, Sophia received a package from her grandmother. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $ 高三英语考试 第一部分 听力(共两节,满分30分) 做题时,先将答案标在试卷上。 What is the man mainly excited about? For my speech, I’d like to introduce my work in historical discoveries. This topic is different from other speeches tonight. But it fits the theme of tonight’s charity event for children. We’ll provide a special history course for all students in the new school we’re building using donations. My team focuses on historical digging. We have helped experts in history worldwide make incredible discoveries. I do most of my work outside the United States. In fact, I spent most of my time in Italy. But my most exciting project was researching the Terracotta Army in Xi’an, China. Although these ancient statues were first found by farmers decades ago, they quickly became one of the world’s most unique historical sites. There, over 8,000 well-preserved warriors offer a clear view of what soldiers looked like over 2,000 years ago! The most important part of my team’s strategy is learning about the land we’re investigating. Indeed, researching culture and history was the biggest change to my team’s digging strategy. Well, thank you for listening. And let’s hear it for our next speaker, a science expert, who will present her impressive work. A Reading is a great way to better understand what people from across the globe struggle with in their everyday lives, and it helps us reflect on our own situation. What does the last book suggest about the child’s problem? A. It becomes tougher when avoided. B. It can be solved by reading books. C. It is too complex to understand. D. It disappears if left untreated. D 22. C 23. 根据Can We Help?部分“This is a photo-driven nonfiction book that follows real kids as they tutor younger students, help train service dogs, and grow produce for food banks, showing in vivid images and simple words how children can make immediate and practical differences in the community. (这是一本以照片为基础的非虚构类书籍,它记录了真实的孩子们如何辅导年幼的学生,帮助训练服务犬,为食物银行种植农产品,用生动的图像和简单的文字展示了孩子们如何在社区中产生直接和实际的影响)”可知,这本书中的学生课后为社区服务。故选D项。 【22题详解】 细节理解题。根据To Change a Planet部分“With thoughtfulness, truthfulness, and beauty, this book demonstrates the importance of caring for our planet. Eye-catching explosions of color on every page create an amazing visual narrative that invites readers to find and follow the same characters through their daily lives and ultimately to a climate march in Washington, DC (这本书体贴、真实、美丽,展现了关爱地球的重要性。每一页上引人注目的色彩爆炸创造了一个惊人的视觉叙事,邀请读者找到并跟随相同的人物,通过他们的日常生活,最终到华盛顿特区的气候游行)”可知,该书讲述了支持环保这一全球性议题的故事。故选C项。 【23题详解】 细节理解题。根据What Do You Do with a Problem?部分“This is the story of a persistent (反复出现的) problem and of a child who isn’t quite so sure what to make of it. The longer he avoids the problem, the bigger it seems to get. (这是一个关于一个反复出现的问题和一个不太确定该怎么做的孩子的故事。他回避问题的时间越长,问题就会变得越严重)”可知,书中表明,问题若被回避,会变得更棘手。故选A项。 Martha Siede, who has lived with dystonic cerebral palsy (肌张力障碍型脑瘫) just since she was born, shares her powerful story in the book In Pursuit of “Normal”. 24 Why does the author quote Martha’s words in paragraph 2? A. To arouse readers’ care for the disabled. B. To reveal the poor service of the hospital. C. To explain the cause of Martha’s frustration. D. To demonstrate one issue faced by the disabled. 25. What’s the author’s attitude towards using photos of seated models? A. Ambiguous. B. Dismissive. C. Favorable. D. Indifferent. 26. What does the author think of In Pursuit of “Normal”? A. It is boring but practical. B. It is classic and moving. C. It is abstract but engaging. D. It is inspiring and influential. 27. What is the purpose of the text? A. To teach life lessons. B. To provide inspiration for writers. C. To recommend a book. D. To emphasize the power of humor. D 25. C 26. D 27. 根据第二段“‘The hospital is where you would think disabilities would be comfortable and accepted,’ she writes, ‘but it does not work. It is like trying to fit a square peg in a round hole.’ Martha’s experiences reflected my own frustration there: narrow doorways and crowded spaces that were difficult for me to navigate. (“你会认为医院是残疾人会感到舒适和被接纳的地方,”她写道,“但事实并非如此。这就像试图把方榫头塞进圆榫眼一样。”玛莎的经历反映了我在那里的挫败感:狭窄的门道和拥挤的空间,我很难在其中通行。)”可知,作者引用玛莎的话是为了说明残疾人面临的问题。故选D项。 【25题详解】 推理判断题。根据第三段“My preferred adaptation explored in this book is that of clothing companies who advertise by using photos in which models are seated so that wheelchair users can picture how it will look on their bodies. (在这本书中,我最喜欢的适应性案例是服装公司的做法,它们通过使用模特坐着的照片来做广告,这样轮椅使用者就能想象出服装穿在自己身上的样子。)”可知,作者对使用坐着模特的照片持支持态度。故选C项。 【26题详解】 细节理解题。根据最后一段“Her candid account of struggles and achievements makes her story a source of inspiration for others, showing that anything is possible with a sense of humor and determination. It’s not just a tale of survival; it’s a testament to her strength and resolve. Pathogens Spread through Building Materials 【答案】28. C 29. D 30. A 31. 根据第一段“Jade Benjamin-Chung, an assistant professor at the Stanford School of Medicine, worked with her coworkers to analyze the impact of hygiene (卫生) interventions on health outcomes in middle — and low-income Bangladeshi households.(斯坦福大学医学院助理教授Jade Benjamin-Chung与她的同事一起分析了卫生干预措施对孟加拉国中低收入家庭健康状况的影响)”可知,Benjamin-Chung和她同事最初的研究重心是孟加拉国中低收入家庭的卫生习惯。 根据第三段“When Billington heard the team’s idea of broadly replacing soil-packed floors with concrete, she worried the approach could have unintended consequences for the climate due to heavy carbon emissions (排放) from concrete production.(当Billington听到该团队的想法是用混凝土广泛取代土壤填充的地板时,她担心这种方法可能会对气候产生意想不到的后果,因为混凝土生产会产生大量的碳排放)”和第四段“So Billington invited other Stanford experts into the fold to understand why concrete was effective in reducing pathogen spread and design low-emission concrete alternatives that kept those helpful properties.(因此,Billington邀请了斯坦福大学的其他专家来了解为什么混凝土能有效地减少病原体的传播,并设计出低排放的混凝土替代品,以保持这些有益的特性)”可知,Billington担心使用混凝土会对气候带来影响,故邀请了其他专家参与进来。 根据第五段“The team’s findings suggest the pathogens have similar rates of survival on traditional concrete mix tiles and “green” alternative fly ash tiles.(研究小组的发现表明,在传统的混凝土混合瓦和“绿色”替代粉煤灰瓦上,病原体的存活率相似)”可推断,新型的水泥混合板在减少疾病传播方面一样有效。故选A。 B。 Quick: what’s your best friend’s phone number? C 33. D 34. D 35. 根据第一段中“You have no reason to commit phone numbers to memory: it’s just there in your phone. Or perhaps you once had a phone book to store them. In either case, an object does the remembering for you.(你没有理由把电话号码记在记忆里:它就在你的手机里。或者你曾经有一个电话簿来存储它们。在任何一种情况下,一个物体为你做记忆。)”推知,我们更多地依赖工具进行记忆。故选C。 【33题详解】 词句猜测题。根据第二段中“The storage capacity of the human brain has since been eclipsed. No wonder, then, that we’re increasingly dependent on memory prostheses, from libraries to smartphones.(人类大脑的存储能力从此eclipsed。因此,从图书馆到智能手机,我们越来越依赖人工记忆也就不足为奇了。)”可知,我们越来越依靠人工记忆,其原因是我们大脑的储存能力已经被超越,人工记忆可以记得更多。由此猜测,划线词eclipsed意为“超越”的意思,与outperformed同义。故选D。 【34题详解】 细节理解题。根据第三段中“When we devote ourselves to capturing and sharing the world in this way, something immensely valuable is lost; when recording so much of our lives, we’re forgetting to actually live them, and so disconnect ourselves from experience.(当我们执着于以这种方式捕捉并分享世界时,某种极具价值的东西便会悄然流失;我们记录了生活中太多片段,却忘了真正去体验生活,也因此与当下的感受渐行渐远。)” 根据最后一段中“But is our social media-driven transformation wholly bad? If we’re still creating and sharing memories like this, perhaps this is because we’ve not had sufficient time to learn how to do these things without thinking about what we’re doing. It is easy to ignore that the mass social media era is less than a decade old. Do you remember when someone would be cruel to you at school and you would come home crying? Your parents probably told you that “what they think doesn’t matter — it’s what you think that counts.” ____36____ How can you be happy if you don’t like who you are? For instance, if you’re unhappy with your career, think about a job that would make you happy and how to achieve it. Remember, many successful people didn’t achieve greatness until later in life; it’s never too late to pursue your dreams. ____39____ List your positive traits and achievements. Before aiming for self-improvement, recognize your virtues. Sit down and write ten things you like about yourself and ten achievements you’re proud of. Everyone can come up with at least ten items. Focus on these positive aspects. B. Acknowledge you can change and grow. C. But what if the criticism comes from within? D. The journey itself matters more than the destination. 【36题详解】 根据前文“Do you remember when someone would be cruel to you at school and you would come home crying? Your parents probably told you that “what they think doesn’t matter — it’s what you think that counts.” (你还记得在学校有人对你很残忍,你哭着回家吗?你的父母可能会告诉你:‘他们怎么想并不重要,重要的是你怎么想。’)”提到别人对你残忍时父母的安慰话语,以及后文“How can you be happy if you don’t like who you are?(如果你不喜欢你自己,你怎么能快乐呢?)”说如果不喜欢自己怎么能快乐呢,C选项“But what if the criticism comes from within?( 但如果批评来自内心呢?)” 【37题详解】 根据前文“We all have traits we value and talents we pride ourselves on.( 我们都有自己珍视的特质和引以为傲的才能。)” A项“Focus on these positive aspects.(关注这些积极的方面。)” 故选A项。 【38题详解】 根据后文“Your current self is a stepping stone to becoming who you want to be.(你现在的自己是成为你想成为的人的垫脚石。)” B项“Acknowledge you can change and grow.(承认你可以改变和成长。)” 【39题详解】 根据前文“Remember, many successful people didn’t achieve greatness until later in life; it’s never too late to pursue your dreams.(记住,许多成功人士直到较晚的时候才取得伟大成就;追求你的梦想永远不会太晚。)” D项“The journey itself matters more than the destination.(旅程本身比目的地更重要。)” 【40题详解】 根据后文“To overcome this, find role models who share similar traits but succeed despite challenges.( 为了克服这一点,寻找具有相似特征但在挑战中成功的榜样。)” G项“We often compare ourselves unfavourably to others, especially those in the media.(我们经常拿自己和别人作不利的比叫,尤其是和媒体中的人比。)” It was a busy morning for me. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】 Inspired by her grandmother’s words, Sophia made a promise to herself. She promised to prioritize her relationships and make a conscious effort to stay connected with her loved ones, especially her family members. While she understood the importance of her studies, she realized that her relationships were equally, if not more, valuable in shaping her life. She also decided to visit her grandmother more frequently, cherishing the time they had together and making the most of the opportunity to learn from her wisdom. A few weeks after returning to college, Sophia received a package from her grandmother. Inside, she found a beautifully scarf (围巾), accompanied by a heartfelt note from Lily. In the note, her grandmother expressed her love and appreciation for Sophia’s visit, and shared her pride in seeing her granddaughter grow into a compassionate and driven young woman. The scarf, along with the note, served as a touchable reminder of their special bond and the moving story between two family members, strengthening the importance of love, connection, and the invaluable lessons passed down through generations. 词汇激活 行为类 ①意识到:realize/be aware of ②决定做某事:decide to do/determine to do ③充分利用:make the most of/take advantage of ④陪伴:accompany/company 情绪类 ①无价的:invaluable/priceless ②富有同情心的:compassionate/ sympathetic 【点睛】[高分句型1]She also decided to visit her grandmother more frequently, cherishing the time they had together and making the most of the opportunity to learn from her wisdom.(运用了现在分词作状语,省略了that的定语从句) [高分句型2]In the note, her grandmother expressed her love and appreciation for Sophia’s visit, and shared her pride in seeing her granddaughter grow into a compassionate and driven young woman.(运用了动名词作宾语) 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $
