Below, we will focus on these leading-edge technologies, and at the same time, explore whether society is ready for their impact through an ecosystem readiness (准备度) map (ERM) — this map covers 5 aspects for each technology, with each aspect rated on a four-point scale ranging from “no readiness” to “high readiness”. Osmotic power systems It makes electricity from the difference in salt levels between two water sources, promising a unique approach to global energy generation. Biochemical sensing Biochemical sensing is a smart network that can detect and respond to biological changes in water all by itself. This could strengthen the safety of water supplies and the natural environment. GLP-1s GLP-1 drugs have been proven to remove protein (蛋白质) linked to the development of Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s. And its impact could even shape how we think about elder care and even ageing itself. Collaborative sensing Sensors in our properties, cars, and workplaces are increasingly being linked together and combined with AI, leading to big advances in “collaborative sensing.” In the future, this technology could transform how cities run and how households and organizations make decisions. 1. What is the score of the “social” aspect of GLP-1s’ ecosystem readiness map? A. 1.5 points. B. 2.5 points. C. 3.5 points. D. 4 points. 2. Which technology contributes to smart homes? A. Osmotic power systems. B. Biochemical sensing. C. GLP-1s. D. Collaborative sensing. 3. What do the four technologies have in common? A. They all rely on crucial chemicals. B. They all cure brain-related diseases. C. They all address critical global issues. D. They all promise commercial benefits. B Wilson noted the people whom he admired in his autobiography. They are individuals who “concentrate all the courage and self-discipline they possess toward a single worthy goal: explorers, mountain climbers, military heroes, and a very few scientists.” Wilson’s formula for being a hero is simple but difficult to follow. You need to “drive toward discouraging goals with nerves dealt with failure and a willingness to accept pain.” You need to be a scientist like Philip Jackson Darlington, one of Wilson’s early heroes. In the 1940s, Darlington was in pursuit of insects in the jungles of Papua New Guinea in the southwest Pacific. A crocodile (鳄鱼) took him in its jaws and dragged him underwater. He escaped, but his right hand was permanently injured. Yet he went on to greatly expand our knowledge of the insects of Papua New Guinea and other parts of the world. “I acknowledge,” Wilson told us, “that to fight off a crocodile is an act of survival, not proof of character. But to go where crocodiles live is.” When Wilson was 23 and ready to set off on his first field trip to collect insects in the tropics (热带地区), he went to Darlington for advice. “Most people,” Darlington shared, “take it easy when they go in the field.” He told Wilson not to stay on the trails but to walk in a straight line through the forest. “Try to go over any barrier you meet,” he advised. “It’s hard, but it’s the best way to collect.” Darlington’s advice for ant collecting might be considered a metaphor for the way Wilson began his career and lived for nine decades. Life can be hard. Steel yourself to it; face its challenges. Do not fear — the hard way is the right way. Be brave, be driven, and keep your mind and best eye open. 4. Why could Darlington be Wilson’s hero? A. He discovered new species. B. He funded Wilson’s first trip. C. He pursued science fearlessly. D. He taught Wilson about insects. 5. What do Wilson’s words in Paragraph 3 mean? A. Fighting crocodiles defines a hero. B. Surviving an accident is pure luck. C. Scientists should avoid risky places. D. Choosing to face danger is courageous. 6. What was Darlington’s suggestion for field research? A. Focus on collecting common insects. B. Go straight and overcome obstacles. C. Follow the established trails for safety. D. Take it easy and avoid difficult barriers. 7. What is the main message of the text? A. A list of personal heroes. B. A warning about research risks. C. An inspiration to face difficulties. D. A record of scientific achievements. C In popular belief, cancer begins when a normal cell’s DNA changes, allowing it to multiply uncontrollably and form tumors (肿瘤) that may spread. Yet, scientists have recently discovered that so-called cancer-driver mutations (变异) are also widespread in healthy tissues. For instance, such mutations appear in a quarter of skin cells by middle age, over half of throat cells, and nearly 10% of stomach lining cells. Similar findings have been reported in other parts of the human body. Why don’t these cells turn into tumors? Researchers are uncovering that surrounding healthy cells — some with beneficial mutations — can suppress cancerous growth. By supporting these healthy cells, we may develop new strategies to prevent cancer. This new view stems from studying normal tissue. When cells divide, they accumulate random mutations. In organs like the skin or throat, the fittest cells survive and expand, while others are shed. Interestingly, some mutations can help block cancer growth. For example, a gene called NOTCH1, often mutated in throat cancer, may also protect against it by limiting abnormal cell growth. Environmental factors also influence cancer risk. While some chemicals cause direct DNA damage, others — including air pollution and certain chemicals in water or cosmetics — do not. Instead, they trigger chronic inflammation (慢性炎症), which over time encourages mutated cells to become tumors. For example, air pollution can cause lung inflammation that promotes tumor growth in people who never smoked. These insights are shifting cancer prevention strategies. Instead of targeting mutations alone, scientists now aim to control inflammation. This approach could benefit high-risk groups, such as people with inherited cancer risk, former smokers, or those with early abnormal cell changes. As cancer rates rise with longer lifespans, such preventive treatments may help more people in the future. 8. What can be learned about mutations from Paragraph 1? A. They don’t all lead to tumors. B. They are only found in tumors. C. They mostly occur by middle age. D. They mark the beginning of cancer. 9. What does the underlined word “suppress” in Paragraph 2 probably mean? A. Promote. B. Ignore. C. Control. D. Release. 10. How does environmental factors influence cancer risk? A. By damaging the cells of lungs. B. By causing inflammation over time. C. By polluting the skin through cosmetics. D. By triggering direct damage in non-smokers. 11. What does Paragraph 5 focus on about the insights? A. Their limitations. B. Their methods. C. Their challenges. D. Their significance. D As “The Martian”, Sir Ridley Scott’s film based on Andy Weir’s book, reaches its most exciting part, the world watches attempts to save Mark Watney, a NASA astronaut left alone on Mars, while holding its breath. All of humankind seems united in worry for a single life; crowds in America, Europe and China closely follow news reports about the efforts to bring him home. The topic of a recent NASA press conference was strangely similar. Scientists announced the discovery of a “potential biosignature”, a possible sign of life, in a Martian rock sample. According to NASA’s acting leader, this could be “the clearest sign of life that we’ve ever found on Mars.” The sample has been sealed in a metal container, for future study. Unfortunately, those advanced instruments are on Earth, while the precious sample remains on Mars. The rock comes from Jezero, a huge hole on the red planet’s surface, where a Mars vehicle landed four and a half years ago. Scientists identified distinctive rock formations in a valley, naming one particular sample “Sapphire Canyon.” Analysis shows it contains organic molecules (分子), carbon-based materials, and unusual mineral formations that appear to have grown within the rock. These features contain minerals that underwent chemical reactions similar to those produced by bacteria (细菌) on Earth. While organic molecules don’t necessarily indicate life, their presence along with these special features makes this finding particularly significant. The discovery represents the strongest potential evidence of life ever found on Mars. However, returning the sample to Earth presents enormous challenges. NASA has cancelled the mission to bring these samples back to earth due to budget issues. Bringing samples from Mars requires complex operations including a Mars launch vehicle, and a return spacecraft. Although private companies claim they could achieve this at lower cost, and China is planning its own sample-return mission, international cooperation remains unlikely. For now, this exciting discovery must await future technology or missions to reveal its secrets. 12. Why does the author mention the movie in Paragraph.1? A. To praise director Ridley Scott. B. To show public interest in Mars. C. To introduce Andy Weir’s novel. D. To lead to NASA’s announcement. 13. What makes the finding particularly significant? A. The rock contains carbon-based materials. B. The rock shows unusual mineral formations. C. The rock comes from Sapphire Canyon in Jezero. D. The rock holds organic bits and bacteria-like minerals. 14. What does Paragraph 4 mainly focus on? A. NASA’s budget issues. B. Private companies’ claims. C. Technology for future missions. D. Challenges of bringing the sample home. 15. What would be the best title for this passage? A. A Movie: Inspiring Mars Exploration. B. Discovery: Organic Molecules on Mars. C. Mars Sample: Discovery and Return Challenges. D. Cooperation: International Efforts for Sample Return. Everyday Sources: How to evaluate reliability? In today’s digital age, social media feeds, news alerts, and instant messages flood our phones — so much so that we’re not just surrounded by information, but drowning in a messy mix of facts, opinions, rumors, and even deliberate misinformation. ____16____ That’s why assessing the truth of information is a key life skill — so how do we then tell useful information from useless? When we search for information, one of the biggest challenges is knowing which sources we can rely on. Generally, the more time and money that is put into the creation of the material, the more likely you are to find reliable information. ____17____ And they are unlikely to provide information from an individual or institution committed to preserving their reputation. One of the key factors in deciding whether to trust a source is the author behind it. A source is more trustworthy if written by someone with relevant training or education. ____18____ Ask questions about the author: Are they an innovator or a defender of the status quo? Do peers cite or advocate their work? ____19____ And sometimes a study is conducted in order to align with the goals or interests of its funders. For example, a study backed by an energy firm could minimize data on environmental risks. Be aware of wording that indicates judgment. It is more appropriate to compare something to an objective standard than to label it with words that represent abstract concepts. ____20____ A. These authors are more likely to produce original works. B. Funding is the biggest challenge when starting a new project. C. For example, say “illegal” instead of the vague term “terrible”. D. Poorly designed sites are filled with ads, trackers, and pop-ups. E. Unsurprisingly, it’s never easy to tell which sources we can trust. F. Even so, check their originality and influence, not just the degree. G. Who pays for research influences what the study emphasizes or ignores. The 71st annual Boston Marathon was held on April 19, 1967. One Saturday morning, after we had unpacked the last box in our new apartment, we headed to North Bay Animal Services. The shelter was busy with families and volunteers, and many cats were resting in cages or playing with toys. But Cali’s eyes immediately locked onto an orange-and-white kitten. The attendant smiled warmly. “These two are brothers — Ozzy and Butter. They’ve always been together,” she explained. She led us to a small room where the kittens tumbled (打滚) and chased each other, leapt over cushions, and then curled up side by side, their tiny bodies forming what looked like a heart. “Can’t we take both?” Cali pleaded, her voice trembling, tears welling in her eyes. “Our apartment rules allow only one pet,” I said firmly, though my heart sank. After a long struggle, we finally chose Ozzy. That night, I sat quietly beside Cali as she fell asleep holding Ozzy, hoping the little kitten would soon feel at home and that Cali’s bright smile would return. In the following days, Ozzy wandered around the apartment, crying as if he were searching for his brother. He ate little, scratched (抓挠) constantly at the door, and sometimes hid under the couch. Cali sobbed, “He misses his brother!” I tried to comfort her, stroking Ozzy’s soft fur, but even the gentle petting couldn’t fill the gap between the kittens. Months went by. Ozzy grew calmer, and Cali stopped asking about Butter. Then one sunny afternoon, we visited a friend’s house for a barbecue. As we stepped into the backyard, an orange-and-white cat ran past us, its tail moving in excitement. “That’s my cat!” Cali shouted, eyes wide with shock and delight. “No, that’s Butter!” my friend laughed. My hands trembled as I bent down to examine the cat. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Two days later, Cali and I brought Ozzy to meet Butter. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $ 高2027届高二(上)学月考试 英语试卷 注意事项: 1. 1. A. 4. C 5. D 6. B 7. A 9. C 10. B 11. 根据第一段中“Yet, scientists have recently discovered that so-called cancer-driver mutations (变异) are also widespread in healthy tissues.(然而,科学家最近发现,所谓的致癌变异也广泛存在于健康组织中)”以及第二段中“Why don’t these cells turn into tumors?(为什么这些细胞不会变成肿瘤?)” 故选A。 根据第二段中“Researchers are uncovering that surrounding healthy cells — some with beneficial mutations — can suppress cancerous growth.(研究人员发现,周围的健康细胞——其中一些具有有益的变异——可以suppress癌细胞的生长)”可知,周围的健康细胞可以抑制癌细胞的生长,故“suppress”意为“抑制,控制”。A. Promote.(促进);B. Ignore.(忽视);C. Control.(控制);D. 根据第四段中“Environmental factors also influence cancer risk. Instead, they trigger chronic inflammation (慢性炎症), which over time encourages mutated cells to become tumors.(环境因素也会影响癌症风险。虽然一些化学物质会直接损害DNA,但其他化学物质——包括空气污染以及水或化妆品中的某些化学物质——则不会。相反,它们会引发慢性炎症,随着时间的推移,慢性炎症会促使变异细胞变成肿瘤)”可知,环境因素通过随着时间的推移引起炎症来影响癌症风险。故选B。 【11题详解】 主旨大意题。根据第五段中“These insights are shifting cancer prevention strategies. Instead of targeting mutations alone, scientists now aim to control inflammation. This approach could benefit high-risk groups, such as people with inherited cancer risk, former smokers, or those with early abnormal cell changes. As cancer rates rise with longer lifespans, such preventive treatments may help more people in the future.(这些见解正在改变癌症预防策略。科学家们现在的目标不再是仅仅针对变异,而是控制炎症。这种方法可能会使高风险人群受益,比如有遗传性癌症风险的人、前吸烟者或有早期异常细胞变化的人。随着寿命的延长,癌症发病率上升,这种预防性治疗可能会在未来帮助更多的人)”可知,第五段主要讲述了这些见解的重要性。故选D。 D As “The Martian”, Sir Ridley Scott’s film based on Andy Weir’s book, reaches its most exciting part, the world watches attempts to save Mark Watney, a NASA astronaut left alone on Mars, while holding its breath. 12. D 13. D 14. D 15. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】范文 My hands trembled as I bent down to examine the cat. Its orange-and-white fur was identical to Ozzy’s, and its eyes held the same familiar spark. Memories flooded back — the shelter, the two kittens curled up together like a heart. “Yes, it’s Butter!” I whispered, my voice thick with emotion. Cali knelt beside me, tears of joy streaming down her cheeks. Our friend explained they had adopted Butter from the same shelter months ago, unaware of his history. Overwhelmed, I realized Butter’s new home was only blocks away. Hope flickered in my heart as an idea formed. Two days later, Cali and I brought Ozzy to meet Butter. The moment the carrier opened, Ozzy cautiously stepped out. Butter froze, then dashed forward, rubbing against his brother with loud purrs. Ozzy’s tense posture melted; he nuzzled Butter fiercely, as if whispering secrets only they understood. The kittens tumbled and chased each other just like before, finally curling up side by side — their bodies forming that perfect heart once again. “They’re whole now,” Cali sighed, tucking a smile. Watching them, I knew love had truly found its way home. 词汇激活 行为类 ①打开:open/disclose ②形成:form/develop ③意识到:realize/be aware of 情绪类 ①快乐:joy/pleasure ②谨慎地:cautiously/with discretion 【点睛】[高分句型1] Hope flickered in my heart as an idea formed.(运用了as引导时间状语从句) [高分句型2] Watching them, I knew love had truly found its way home.(运用了现在分词作状语) 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $
