B The TV room at the south end of our house is like a black hole: It’s the place where things often end up if there’s no other place to put them, or if I can’t decide whether to throw them away. As such, it’s a land of perfectly serviceable cardboard boxes, old magazines saved for the recipes I will never try, shoes that are just about but not quite worn out, a wood stove I rarely light and other odds and ends. Just the other night, I heard a scratching sound coming from the TV room. I went out to have a look, but of course there was no sound when I got there. Yet after I had gone to bed, it was loud enough to wake me. The next morning at breakfast the scratching continued even as I entered the room, long enough for me to identify the source, which was the stovepipe leading from the wood stove. Ever so carefully, I approached and opened the stove’s front doors. There it was — a surprised, little squirrel, looking straight up at me. I immediately shut the stove doors and considered what to do. I didn’t want to kill it, so I decided I would give it an easy escape route. I closed the door to the kitchen and opened the outside door. It was a windy, freezing day, and the cold air immediately rushed in. I threw the stove doors open, stepped back and waited — but not for long. The squirrel jumped out of the stove, but it was upset and didn’t head outside. Instead, it tore through my magazines in piles, ran up the curtains, and then broke my collection of soda bottles, sending several crashing to the floor. The animal was in a complete panic, and all I could do was stand back and hope it would leave. It finally dawned on me that I was probably the thing scaring it into a panic. So, I quickly left the room. When I returned it had gone. Job done. All in all, two jobs were done that day. Not only did I evacuate a squirrel, but the animal did me a big favor: it made the TV room into more of a mess than it was before, to the point where I could stand it no longer. I made a great effort in making the room tidy. Finally, I had the clean, inviting space I had planned to have all along. 41. What does the author mean by describing the TV room as “a black hole”? A. According to the last paragraph, what is the author’s attitude towards the squirrel? A. The author was annoyed with the squirrel. B. The author was upset about the squirrel’s leaving. C. The author doesn’t like the squirrel. D. The author felt grateful to the squirrel. 45. What might the best title of the passage? A. A Squirrel’s Chaos Leads to an Unexpected Cleanup. B. C Microplastics have become a common source of pollution across the Earth — they have settled in the deep sea and on the Himalayas, stuck inside volcanic rocks, filled the stomachs of seabirds and even fallen in fresh Antarctic snow. They are even appearing inside humans. Now, new research suggests that a simple, cheap measure may significantly reduce the level of microplastics in water from your tap (水龙头): boiling and filtering (过滤) it. In a study published Wednesday in Environmental Science Technology Letters, researchers from China found that boiling tap water for just five minutes — then filtering it after it cools — could remove at least 80 percent of its microplastics. Crucially, this process relies on the water containing enough calcium carbonate (碳酸钙) to trap the plastics. In the study, boiling hard water containing 300 milligrams of calcium carbonate led to an almost 90 percent drop in plastics. But in samples with less than 60 milligrams of calcium carbonate, boiling reduced the level of plastics by just 25 percent. Additionally, the research didn’t include all types of plastics. The team focused only on three common types — polystyrene, polyethylene and polypropylene — and they didn’t study other chemicals previously found in water such as vinyl chloride. Still, the findings show a potential path forward for reducing microplastic exposure — a task that’s becoming increasingly difficult. Even bottled water, scientists found earlier this year, contains 10 to 1,000 times more microplastics than originally thought. Scientists are still trying to determine how harmful microplastics are — but what they do know has raised concerns. The new study suggests boiling tap water could be a tool to limit intake. “The way they demonstrated how microplastics were trapped through the boiling process was nice,” Caroline Gauchotte-Lindsay, an environmental engineer of the University of Glasgow in Scotland who was not involved in the research, tells New Scientist. “We should be looking into upgrading drinking water treatment plants so they remove microplastics.” 46. How does the author present the issue in the first paragraph? A. By quoting an expert. B. By defining a concept. C. By giving examples. D. By providing statistics. 47. What determines the effectiveness of trapping microplastics in water? A. The hardness of water. B. The length of cooling time. C. The frequency of filtering. D. The type of plastic in water. 48. What does the author try to illustrate by mentioning bottled water in paragraph 4? A The importance of plastic recycling. B. The severity of the microplastic problem. C. The danger in overusing pure water. D. The difficulty in treating polluted water. 49. What is Gauchotte-Lindsay’s suggestion about? A. Choice of new research methods. B. Possible direction for further study. C. Need to involve more researchers. D. Potential application of the findings 50. What is the main purpose of the passage? A. To argue for replacing bottled water with boiled tap water. B. To explain the experimental process of removing microplastics. C. To propose a simple yet limited solution to microplastic pollution. D. To introduce the arguments about the global spread of microplastics. D When people have positive feelings for one another then they are able to sit down and talk about what really matters, that is, the true purpose and meaning of life. When envy and jealousy flee, truth has a rich soil to grow and ripen. In order to really talk, people have to be willing to admit their weakness, and open up. But if there is anger, envy, jealousy or feelings of superiority, truth cannot exist because everyone is measuring what they are saying, trying to avoid making themselves vulnerable in any way. Perhaps the biggest truth-killers of all are envy and jealousy. Envy is desiring what someone else has, while jealousy is feeling unhappy that someone has something that you would like. The objects of envy and jealousy can be material possessions such as jewelry and houses, and other intangibles such as popularity and respect. Most of us hold back when we think about being envious or jealous. But do we really understand how these feelings express themselves? It`s not always so obvious—unless we slow down and examine ourselves, we may miss the signs. We think to ourselves: That person who just won that award/contract/position doesn’t deserve it. She thinks her child’s so great but he’s not very good and is really a mediocre guy. Who does he think he is—he doesn’t know anything about that subject. We may not in truth want what the other person has, but we don’t want them to have it either. This is what we call “Dead-end Envy”. It’s the feeling of dissatisfaction that occurs when someone else owns/achieves something and you aren’t happy about it. If you turn envy or “Dead-end Envy” inside out, you get schadenfreude (幸灾乐祸), taking pleasure in someone else`s misfortune. In an earlier study, “neural correlates (神经关联) of envy and schadenfreude were tied together, with the magnitude (量级) of one predicting the strength of the other,” says researcher Matthew D. Lieberman who specializes in respect and how people get along. Can envy ever be positive? In terms of motivating people to push themselves to succeed—yes. But in terms of personal relationships? That’s harder to prove a positive. Once you accept that someone is your superior in one aspect or another, or has been blessed with a unique talent or quality, and they become a role model, envy may turn into something else, respect. 51. The author intends to tell us that when people talk with others, ________. A. envy and jealousy are unavoidable B. people don’t need to be open up C. people should measure what they are saying D. positive feelings help talk deeply. 52. About envy and jealousy, the author thinks that ________. A. there is no difference between them B. most people are willing to accept them C. they have a bad influence on truth D. they are easy to understand and recognize 53. What does the underlined word “mediocre” mean? A. Ordinary. B. Useless. C. Outstanding. D. Unique. 54. What can we conclude from Paragraph 7? A. Envy is the opposite of schadenfreude. B. “Dead-end Envy” can lead to schadenfreude. C. People with envy or jealousy have no sympathy. D. People always want what others have. 55. What is the best title of the passage? A. Envy and Jealousy, the Power of Success B. The Harmfulness of Envy and Jealousy C. How to Overcome Envy and Jealousy Successfully D. Envy and Jealousy and Their Effects Ⅱ卷(非选择题部分) 第一节:阅读表达(共5小题:每小题2分,满分10分) 阅读表达 Sometimes when it feels like things are falling apart, they may actually be falling into place. This is exactly the case for Holly Smith, 34, from Surrey, when she lost her job two years ago. At the beginning of 2020, Holly was working as a general manager for a small independent bakery business in Surrey. She had been there six years and couldn’t believe it when they told her she had to pack up her bags and leave. Being made redundant came as a huge shock for her and she panicked about struggling to pay the bills and finding another job during such a difficult time. Holly didn’t know where to turn initially, but she was determined to find a silver lining, so she picked up a paintbrush and began to paint. Holly painted a portrait of her parent’s dog, a Spinone Italiano named Bailey, and shared the image online. Straight after, a few friends requested their own pet paintings and soon her career took off. Holly named her business Holly & Murphy, after her special five-year-old cocker spaniel, Murphy. She is often at her most creative when she’s floating on water, together with her furry companion in her boat. She combines watercolour paints and pencils to bring dogs’ faces to life. A small painting usually takes two to three days to complete. Customers love how she captures their pet’s personality in great detail. Some of the most memorable paintings she has been asked to do are of dogs that have passed away. Her dog portraits start at £295 and can cost up to £595. “When it first happened, it felt like the end of the world,” Holly, a current full-time painter and business owner, told The Mirror, “but it was the best thing that ever happened to me. A. The author cannot find anything in the TV room except a hole. B. The TV room contains various things that the author rarely uses. C. The TV room is too dark to see things as clear as possible. D. There is no space to put anything in the TV room. 42. What did the author do when he/she first saw the squirrel? A. The author attempted to catch it immediately. B. The author ignored the squirrel and left. C. The author closed the stove’s front doors. D. The author caught it without any hesitation. 43. What does the word “panic” mean in Para.5? A. A state of excitement and joy B. A state of standing still without moving C. A feeling of fear and anxiety D. A feeling of being embarrassed 44. B. A Squirrel’s Escape from a Wood Stove. C. Saving a Squirrel: A Lesson in Kindness. D. Trapped in the Stove: A Rescue Mission in Winter. 【答案】41. B 42. C 43. C 44. D 45. A 【解析】 【导语】这是一篇记叙文。作者讲述了自家电视房因堆放杂物而混乱不堪。一天,一只松鼠被困在房内的木炉里。作者打开门窗试图让松鼠逃走,但松鼠惊慌失措,制造了更大混乱。最终松鼠离开,作者趁机清理了房间。 【41题详解】 推理判断题。根据第一段“The TV room at the south end of our house is like a black hole: It’s the place where things often end up if there’s no other place to put them, or if I can’t decide whether to throw them away. As such, it’s a land of perfectly serviceable cardboard boxes, old magazines saved for the recipes I will never try, shoes that are just about but not quite worn out, a wood stove I rarely light and other odds and ends.(我们家南端的电视房就像一个黑洞:如果找不到其他地方放东西,或者我拿不定主意要不要扔掉,东西最终都会堆到那里。因此,这里成了完好无损的纸板箱、为我永远不会尝试的食谱而保存的旧杂志、快要穿坏但还没完全穿坏的鞋子、我很少生火的木炉以及其他各种零碎物品的天下)”可知,作者说自家电视房就像一个黑洞,指她一旦有用不着又舍不得扔的东西都放那里,导致那里放着各种各样的很少用到的杂物。故选B项。 【42题详解】 细节理解题。根据第四段“I immediately shut the stove doors and considered what to do.(我立刻关上了炉子的门,考虑接下来该怎么办)”可知,作者发现炉子里有一只松鼠的第一反应就是把炉子前门关住。故选C项。 【43题详解】 词句猜测题。根据第五段“The squirrel jumped out of the stove, but it was upset and didn’t head outside. Instead, it tore through my magazines in piles, ran up the curtains, and then broke my collection of soda bottles, sending several crashing to the floor.(松鼠从炉子里跳了出来,但它很不安,并没有朝外面去。相反,它在一堆堆杂志里撕扯着,爬上窗帘,然后打碎了我的汽水瓶收藏,好几个瓶子摔到地上碎了)”可知,小松鼠的表现说明它很恐惧慌乱,由此推测panic的意思是“恐慌”。故选C项。 【44题详解】 推理判断题。根据最后一段“All in all, two jobs were done that day. Not only did I evacuate a squirrel, but the animal did me a big favor: it made the TV room into more of a mess than it was before, to the point where I could stand it no longer. I made a great effort in making the room tidy. Finally, I had the clean, inviting space I had planned to have all along.(总的来说,那天完成了两项工作。我不仅把松鼠赶走了,而且这个动物还帮我做了一件大事:它把电视房弄得比以前更乱了,乱到我再也无法忍受。我费了好大一番功夫才把房间整理干净。最后,我得到了我一直计划要的那个干净、吸引人的空间)”推测,最后作者对小松鼠的出现是感激的,此事促使她把电视房清理干净了,做了她一直想做去没做的事情。故选D项。 【45题详解】 主旨大意题。根据最后一段“All in all, two jobs were done that day. Not only did I evacuate a squirrel, but the animal did me a big favor: it made the TV room into more of a mess than it was before, to the point where I could stand it no longer. I made a great effort in making the room tidy. Finally, I had the clean, inviting space I had planned to have all along.(总的来说,那天完成了两项工作。 所以短文的最佳标题为“A Squirrel’s Chaos Leads to an Unexpected Cleanup.翻译 一只松鼠引发混乱,带来意外的大扫除”。故选A项。 C Microplastics have become a common source of pollution across the Earth — they have settled in the deep sea and on the Himalayas, stuck inside volcanic rocks, filled the stomachs of seabirds and even fallen in fresh Antarctic snow. A. The importance of plastic recycling. D To introduce the arguments about the global spread of microplastics. 【答案】46. C 47. A 48. B 49. D 50. In the study, boiling hard water containing 300 milligrams of calcium carbonate led to an almost 90 percent drop in plastics. But in samples with less than 60 milligrams of calcium carbonate, boiling reduced the level of plastics by just 25 percent.(至关重要的是,这个过程依赖于水中含有足够的碳酸钙来捕获微塑料。在这项研究中,煮沸含有300毫克碳酸钙的硬水可以使塑料减少近90%。但在碳酸钙含量低于60毫克的样品中,煮沸仅使塑料水平降低了25%)”可知,水的硬度,即水中碳酸钙的含量,决定了捕获水中微塑料的效果。故选A项。 根据第四段“Still, the findings show a potential path forward for reducing microplastic exposure — a task that’s becoming increasingly difficult. Even bottled water, scientists found earlier this year, contains 10 to 1,000 times more microplastics than originally thought.(尽管如此,研究结果仍然显示了一条减少微塑料暴露的潜在途径——这项任务正变得越来越困难。科学家今年早些时候发现,即使是瓶装水,其中的微塑料含量也比原先认为的要高出10到1000倍)”可知,作者提到瓶装水中的微塑料含量远高于原先估计,是为了强调微塑料污染问题的严重性。故选B项。 【49题详解】 推理判断题。根据最后一段中“The new study suggests boiling tap water could be a tool to limit intake. “The way they demonstrated how microplastics were trapped through the boiling process was nice,” Caroline Gauchotte-Lindsay, an environmental engineer of the University of Glasgow in Scotland who was not involved in the research, tells New Scientist. “We should be looking into upgrading drinking water treatment plants so they remove microplastics.”(这项新的研究表明,煮沸自来水可能是一种限制摄入的工具。 通读全文,尤其第二段中“Now, new research suggests that a simple, cheap measure may significantly reduce the level of microplastics in water from your tap (水龙头): boiling and filtering (过滤) it.(现在,新的研究表明,一个简单、廉价的方法可能显著降低自来水中的微塑料水平:煮沸并过滤它)”和第三段中“But in samples with less than 60 milligrams of calcium carbonate, boiling reduced the level of plastics by just 25 percent. Additionally, the research didn’t include all types of plastics. The team focused only on three common types — polystyrene, polyethylene and polypropylene — and they didn’t study other chemicals previously found in water such as vinyl chloride.(但在碳酸钙含量低于60毫克的样品中,煮沸只降低了25%的塑料含量。 D When people have positive feelings for one another then they are able to sit down and talk about what really matters, that is, the true purpose and meaning of life. Envy and Jealousy and Their Effects 【答案】51. D 52. C 53. A 54. B 55. 根据第二段的“In order to really talk, people have to be willing to admit their weakness, and open up.(要想真正交谈,人们必须愿意承认自己的弱点,并敞开心扉。)” 根据第二段的“But if there is anger, envy, jealousy or feelings of superiority, truth cannot exist because everyone is measuring what they are saying, trying to avoid making themselves vulnerable in any way.(但如果存在愤怒、羡慕、嫉妒或优越感,真理就不可能存在,因为每个人都在衡量他们所说的话,试图避免以任何方式让自己变得脆弱。)” 通读全文,尤其是第二段的“In order to really talk, people have to be willing to admit their weakness, and open up. But if there is anger, envy, jealousy or feelings of superiority, truth cannot exist(但如果存在愤怒、羡慕、嫉妒或优越感,真理就不可能存在)”和第三段的“Perhaps the biggest truth-killers of all are envy and jealousy.(也许最大的真相杀手是羡慕和嫉妒。)” Sometimes when it feels like things are falling apart, they may actually be falling into place. And I’m so grateful to have a job that I love.” 56. What’s the meaning of the underlined word in Paragraph 2? (no more than 3 words) ____________________________________________________________________________________________ 57. What does Paragraph 3 mainly tell us? (no more than 15 words) ____________________________________________________________________________________________ 58. What do Holly’s customers love her paintings about? (no more than 10 words) ____________________________________________________________________________________________ 59. How does Holly feel about the big change in life? (no more than 15 words) ____________________________________________________________________________________________ 60. What have you learned from Holly and her story? (No more than 20 words) ____________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】56. Unemployed. 57. After Holly painted a dog’s portrait and shared it online, her career took off. 58. Customers love how she captures their pet’s personality in detail. 59. Holly feels grateful and considers the change the best thing that happened to her. 60. We learn that loss can lead to new beginnings and that passion can turn into a fulfilling career. 根据画线词的上文“She had been there six years and couldn’t believe it when they told her she had to pack up her bags and leave. (她在那里待了六年,当他们告诉她必须收拾行李离开时,她简直不敢相信)”和下文“Being made redundant came as a huge shock for her and she panicked about struggling to pay the bills and finding another job during such a difficult time. (被redundant对她来说是一个巨大的打击,她非常恐慌,担心在这样的艰难时期里难以支付账单和找到新工作)”可知,此处在描述Holly失业时的情况,失业让她受到巨大打击,她的处境很艰难,推测划线单词表示“被解雇,被裁员”。故答案为Unemployed。 【57题详解】 考查主旨大意。根据第三段“Holly didn’t know where to turn initially, but she was determined to find a silver lining, so she picked up a paintbrush and began to paint. Holly painted a portrait of her parent’s dog, a Spinone Italiano named Bailey, and shared the image online. Straight after, a few friends requested their own pet paintings and soon her career took off. (起初,Holly不知道该转向何处,但她决心要找到一线希望,于是她拿起画笔开始绘画。Holly画了她父母的狗 —— 一只名为Bailey的意大利斯皮诺猎犬的肖像,并将这幅画分享到了网上。紧接着,几个朋友请求她也为他们的宠物作画,很快她的职业生涯就起飞了)”可知,本段主要讲述了在Holly画了一只狗的肖像并将其分享到网上之后,她的职业生涯开始腾飞。故答案为After Holly painted a dog’s portrait and shared it online, her career took off. 根据第四段“Customers love how she captures their pet’s personality in great detail. (顾客喜欢她如何细致地捕捉宠物的个性)”可知,Holly的顾客喜欢她的画作,是因为她能细致地捕捉到他们宠物的个性。故答案为Customers love how she captures their pet’s personality in detail. 根据文章最后一段““When it first happened, it felt like the end of the world,” Holly, a current full-time painter and business owner, told The Mirror, “but it was the best thing that ever happened to me. And I’m so grateful to have a job that I love.” (“当这一切刚开始发生时,感觉像是世界末日,”如今身为全职画家和企业主的Holly告诉《镜报》,“但这却是我身上发生的最好的事情。我很感激能够拥有一份我热爱的工作”)”可知,Holly感到非常感激,并认为这次改变是发生在她身上最好的事情。故答案为Holly feels grateful and considers the change the best thing that happened to her. We learn that loss can lead to new beginnings and that passion can turn into a fulfilling career. 参考词汇:上海合作组织峰会 SCO(Shanghai Cooperation Organization) Summit Dear Chris, ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Yours, Li Jin 【答案】Dear Chris, I’m more than delighted to hear that you’re fascinated by Tianjin after learning about the SCO Summit and eager to visit here. Thank you for your interest, and you’re warmly welcome! Since your time is limited, I’d like to recommend two must-experience things. First, head to the Tianjin Eye, a giant Ferris wheel built on a bridge. When you’re on it, you can enjoy a panoramic view of the city, especially the beautiful Haihe River winding through. It’s not only a fantastic sight but also a symbol of modern Tianjin. Then, don’t miss trying ear-hole fried cake, a traditional Tianjin snack. It’s golden and crispy on the outside, and soft and sweet on the inside. The name comes from its small, round shape like an ear hole. Tasting it will let you experience the unique flavor of Tianjin’s snacks. I hope your trip to Tianjin will be unforgettable and leave you with sweet memories. 所吸引:be fascinated by→ be attracted by 欣赏:enjoy→ appreciate 巨大的:giant→ huge 高兴的:delighted→ pleased 2. Then, don’t miss trying ear-hole fried cake, a traditional Tianjin snack. Then, don’t miss trying ear-hole fried cake, which is a traditional Tianjin snack. 1】Since your time is limited, I’d like to recommend two must-experience things.(运用了since引导的原因状语从句) 【高分句型2】When you’re on it, you can enjoy a panoramic view of the city, especially the beautiful Haihe River winding through.(运用了when引导的时间状语从句) 听力部分(满分20分) 第一节(共5小题:每小题1分,共5分) 61.
