英语 必修·第一册[人教版]作业与测评 经验贴29 关注标志词,如on the whole, in short, therefore, in spite of, on the contrary, however等。这些词语之后往往是作者的观点,也是文章的主旨。 There's no denying that learning a foreign language is difficult, and when it comes to speaking the language, it can be extremely tough. I remember walking into my firstever Spanish class at university only to discover that half of my classmates were already fluent in many languages. It's_safe_to_say_I_felt_out_of_my_depth! At first the thought of speaking Spanish terrified me; not only were my vocabulary and grammar very limited, but I had never spoken another language before. However, I was determined to overcome my fear, and by adopting a few simple methods I have been able to build my confidence and make progress. In fact, it was not as terrible as I thought. Here, I think I will share a few tips with you. Firstly, it is OK to make mistakes for language learners and that you should accept them. This sounds obvious, but when it comes to language learning we often aim for perfection and feel as though we are not ready to speak until we have “enough” words or grammatical knowledge. The truth is that you will never feel ready, and instead it is important to use the knowledge to communicate what you can. This leads on to my next tip: don't compare yourself to others. This can be a hard one, especially if you are in a large language class. It is important to remember that we all learn at different speeds and through different styles of learning. Something that really helped me progress was finding a patient language exchange partner. Finding someone whose level of English was similar to my level of Spanish to practice with made me feel much more confident. Lastly, celebrate the small success and remember how far you have come! Instead of focusing on how far you have to go, focus on the progress you have already made and be proud of your achievements! 篇章导读:本文是一篇说明文。文章就如何有效掌握一门语言提出了一些建议。 1.What does the underlined part suggest in the passage? A.The author took great pride in his classmates. B.The author was unable to speak many languages. C.The author wanted to leave university immediately. D.The author failed to join in his classmates' conversation. 答案:B 解析:推理判断题。根据第一段中的“I remember ... many languages.(我记得在大学里第一次走进西班牙语课堂时,我发现有一半的同学已经能流利地讲多种语言了。)”和第二段中的“At first ... language before.(起初,一想到要说西班牙语,我就害怕;我不仅词汇量和语法知识非常有限,而且以前从未说过其他语言。)”可推知,画线句表明作者不会说多种语言。故选B。 2.What is the common barrier for language learners? A.They can't use the language in right situations. B.They fail to have a good command of grammar. C.They can't help comparing themselves to others. D.They have a lack of courage to speak the language. 答案:D 解析:推理判断题。根据第三段中的“Firstly, it is OK ... should accept them.”和第四段中的“don't compare yourself to others”可知,人们害怕犯错误,总是拿自己和别人作比较,从而导致缺乏开口说这种语言的勇气。由此可推知,语言学习者的共同障碍是他们缺乏开口说这种语言的勇气。故选D。 3.What's the best way to learn Spanish in the author's opinion? A.Find a partner whose Spanish is excellent. B.Set longterm goals to improve interest. C.Learn from an example and pick out weak points. D.Choose a language exchange partner at the same level. 答案:D 解析:细节理解题。根据第四段中的“Something that really helped me ... more confident.”可知,在作者看来,学习西班牙语最好的方法是选择一个水平相当的语言交流伙伴。故选D。 4.What does the author want to tell in the passage? A.Learning new languages is not so hard. B.Mastering Spanish is a chance in a million. C.Confidence is the key to speaking a language. D.Don't ignore what you have achieved in learning. 答案:A 解析:推理判断题。根据第二段中的“However, I was determined ... I thought.(然而,我决心克服恐惧,通过采取一些简单的方法,我已经能够建立信心,取得进步。事实上,它没有我想的那么可怕。)”可推知,作者想通过这篇文章告诉我们:学习新语言并没有那么难。故选A。 Today we talk about pointless, useless actions. And we have an expression to help us do that. For this expression, let's go to the beach! For a beach trip, we bring several things that can make the trip more enjoyable. For example, a beach towel makes sitting on the sand more comfortable. Some people choose to bring a beach chair. And a beach umbrella protects you from the sun's powerful rays. Swimming in the ocean can really make you hungry. So many people bring a cooler for food and drinks. Making sandcastles on the beach is a fun activity. So, bringing sanddigging tools—like a shovel (铁铲)—and a bucket is a good idea. But you do not need to bring the sand. Most beaches have a lot of that already! And that brings us to today's expression: “bringing sand to the beach”. “Bringing sand to the beach” describes actions that are pointless and unnecessary. The actions are useless. This means serving no purpose. To_bring_sand_to_the_beach_can_also_mean_overkill. Overkill means to do or have more than what is necessary or useful. Often when using this expression, we say “like”. For example, bringing flowers to the opening of a flower store is like bringing sand to the beach. We usually use “like bringing sand to the beach” when bringing something to a place is unnecessary. But you can also say the same idea with different objects and places. For example, I could also say it is “like bringing a sandwich to a restaurant”. With this example, the meaning goes one step further. It also means that what you are bringing (the sandwich) is of poorer quality than what you would find at the place (the restaurant). 篇章导读:本文是一篇说明文。文章介绍了一个英语习语“Bringing sand to the beach”的含义、用法及文化背景。 5.Why are so many things mentioned in Paragraph 2? A.To show many activities on a beach trip. B.To show the various meaningless things. C.To advise necessary things for a nice trip. D.To bring hope for an enjoyable family trip. 答案:C 解析:推理判断题。根据第二段(去海滩旅行,我们带几样东西,可以使旅行更愉快。例如,沙滩巾让坐在沙滩上更舒服。有些人选择带一把沙滩椅。沙滩伞可以保护你免受强烈阳光的照射。在海里游泳真的会让你很饿。所以很多人带冷藏箱来装食物和饮料。)可推知,提到这些物品的目的是为一次愉快的旅行建议必要的东西。故选C。 6.What can be pointless to bring when going to the beach? A.A towel. B.A chair. C.A shovel. D.The sand. 答案:D 解析:细节理解题。根据第三段中的“But you do ... that already! (但是你不需要带沙子。大多数海滩已经有很多沙子了!)”可知,去沙滩自带沙子是多此一举。故选D。 7.How to understand the underlined sentence in Paragraph 5? A.Doing things too much is as bad as doing little. B.We should take measures to protect the ocean. C.There can't be too much killing of marine life. D.Things can't be done based on one's preferences. 答案:A 解析:句意理解题。根据第四段内容可知,“Bringing sand to the beach”描述的是毫无意义和不必要的行为;再结合第五段中的“Overkill means ... or useful. (Overkill的意思是做或拥有的事情超过必要或有用的事情。)”可知,过度行为与不足同样糟糕。故选A。 8.Which saying has the opposite meaning of “bringing sand to the beach”? A.Teaching a fish how to swim smoothly. B.Providing timely help to those in need. C.Teaching eagles to fly higher and higher. D.Adding some fresh water to the sea. 答案:B 解析:推理判断题。根据第一段中的“Today we ... do that. (今天我们谈论的是毫无意义的、无用的行为。我们有一个表达方式来帮助我们做到这一点。)”以及下文中对“bringing sand to the beach”的解释可知,该表达的意思是“做毫无意义的、无用的事”。由此可推知,B项(及时帮助有需要的人)是其反义表达方式。故选B。 There are some differences between American English and British English. Some differences are quite interesting. When my friend Lily from London used the word “larder”, I didn't know what it meant. Realizing I didn't follow her, she used another word. I finally knew she wanted to find something to keep some food. The next word came up when we were planning a lunch date. She jotted_down the date and time in her diary, while I marked my calendar. If she called me on the phone, she would ring me up. But if the line was busy, she would say the line was engaged. Most times, I can know what Lily means. Last week, she regretted sending her boys to watch an early morning tennis game without their fleeces. I thought that she meant without their jackets or something like those. Other times, we have to ask each other. She recently told me a funny tale about a woman who was pissed. I wondered what had made the lady angry. It turns out that pissed means drunk. Here is one more example. My British friend Jane was filling out a ticket at the grocery store recently. She asked the young man if he had a rubber. When she noticed he didn't follow her, she quickly asked for an eraser, which, in England, is often called a rubber. In order to communicate well with the British, we Americans should learn some words that the British use differently. And I think people who learn English as a second language should also realize that there are differences between American English and British English. 篇章导读:本文是一篇记叙文。作者通过生活中的一些例子告诉我们英式英语和美式英语中一些词在使用上的差异。 9.When Lily used the word “larder”, she was probably looking for a ________. A.cup B.ladder C.cupboard D.cooker 答案:C 解析:细节理解题。根据第二段中的“I finally knew she wanted to find something to keep some food.”可知,Lily (莉莉)在寻找一个可以储存食物的容器。cupboard意为“橱柜”,符合题意。故选C。 10.What does the underlined phrase “jotted down” in Paragraph 2 mean? A.Wrote down. B.Left behind. C.Looked for. D.Settled down. 答案:A 解析:词义猜测题。根据画线短语后的“in her diary”以及“while I marked my calendar”可知,Lily把日期和时间记在日记本上。由此可推知,画线短语意为“记下,写下”。故选A。 11.Last week, Lily regretted sending her boys to watch a tennis game mainly because ________. A.she thought the game was boring B.she wanted to spend time with her boys C.she didn't dress her boys in thick clothes D.her boys got lost 答案:C 解析:推理判断题。根据第三段中的“an early morning tennis game”和“I thought that she meant without their jackets or something like those.”可推知,Lily后悔孩子们去看网球比赛,主要因为她没给孩子们穿厚一点的衣服。故选C。 12.According to the passage, in British English ________. A.the word “pissed” means “angry” B.the word “jacket” is often used C.the word “engaged” means “tired” D.the word “rubber” means “eraser” 答案:D 解析:细节理解题。根据第四段中的“she quickly asked for an eraser, which, in England, is often called a rubber”可知,eraser在英国被叫作rubber。故选D。 The classic 1951 science fiction film The Day the Earth Stood Still includes an impressive character—a frightening robot (Gort) whose terrible actions are under control only when he is ordered, “Klaatu Barada Nikto”. What does this mean? I don't know. But when I overhear my students speaking to each other, I am often similarly confused. I teach at a university. One of the “problems” is that as the years pass, I get older, but my students remain the same age—18 to 22.Early on, when I was in my 20s and 30s, this wasn't an issue, as we were close enough in age to speak the same language. But lately I have become well aware that a language ship seems to have sailed, and I am not on board. Let me make it clear by using an example: Recently, when I walked into my class, my students were chatting happily with each other. One of their comments caught my ear: “Venmo it to me.” I had no idea what “Venmo” meant, so I asked. The goodnatured students were happy to explain it to me, and in return I nodded with an awkward expression, as if I should have known better. I went home that evening, absorbed in that moment of noncomprehension (不理解). I am not against change, but I am uncomfortable with change when its pace has me hanging on by my fingernails. If I were to awaken from a fiveyear nap, I'd have no idea what people were talking about. I just wouldn't understand the language. Their willingness to explain their words to me is a great comfort, and I congratulate myself on at least having interest in what they're talking about, as well as on my ability—for the most part—to understand their explanations. But what will happen if my interest wanes and the language ship finally disappears over the horizon? The answer, to me, is clear: Klaatu Barada Nikto. 篇章导读:本文是一篇记叙文。文章主要讲述了作者随着年龄的增长在与年轻学生交流中逐渐遇到语言代沟的困扰。 13.What did the author probably meet with? A.Hearing loss. B.Cultural shock. C.A language barrier. D.A frightening robot. 答案:C 解析:细节理解题。根据第一段中的“But when ... similarly confused.”和第三段中的“Recently, when I walked into my class ... so I asked.”可知,作者遇到了语言障碍,时常无法理解学生们交谈的内容。故选C。 14.What make(s) the author fall behind in language? A.Learning needs. B.Teaching tasks. C.Age difference. D.Language abuse. 答案:C 解析:细节理解题。根据第二段中的“One of the ‘problems’ ... 18 to 22.”可知,日益增长的年龄差导致作者在语言上落后,无法理解年轻的学生们所说的内容。故选C。 15.What does the author think of language change? A.It is entirely avoidable. B.It is really small. C.It is very beneficial. D.It is much too rapid. 答案:D 解析:推理判断题。根据第四段中的“I am not against change ... understand the language. (我并不反对变化,但当变化的速度让我紧张不安时,我就会感到不舒服。如果我从五年的小睡中醒来,我根本不知道人们在谈论什么。我就是听不懂他们的语言。)”可推知,作者认为语言变化过快,自己难以适应。故选D。 16.What does the underlined word “wanes” mean in the last paragraph? A.Lessens. B.Grows. C.Happens. D.Focuses. 答案:A 解析:词义猜测题。根据倒数第二段中的“I congratulate myself ... their explanations (我庆幸自己至少对他们谈论的内容感兴趣,也庆幸自己有能力——在很大程度上——理解他们的解释)”和最后一段中的“But”可推知,画线词所在句表示“如果我的兴趣减退,语言之船终将消失在地平线,会发生什么呢?”wanes意为“减退,减少”,与lessens意思相近。故选A。 7 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $
