We have written this to give you an idea of what will happen on your first day in high school. We also have a New Student Handbook that will answer many of the questions that you might have. If you take a school bus, you will arrive at school at 7:30 am, and if you are coming by car, you should be here at the same time. Registration starts at 7:45 am. When you arrive, you will wait in our reception (接待) area for a few minutes. You will be met by our Admissions Officer You will be introduced to your buddy—a student in the same class as you who will be looking after you for the first few days. You will be taken to your form room (年级办公室) by your buddy, and be introduced to your teacher who will give you your timetable and planner. When form time finishes, your buddy will take you to your first class. You will have some tests to do so that we can place you in the right group. For the first couple of days, you will mainly go to lessons with your buddy as we think this helps you to settle in. After that, you will be placed in your appropriate (合适的) group for Maths, Science and English which are taken by all students. At lunchtime, your buddy will show you around the school, show you how to get lunch, and make sure you are spending time with friends and are included in social activities. At the end of the day, your buddy will show how to get your bus or where to wait for your car. We hope you have a really good day, and we look forward to having you here. 1.What will happen on your first day in high school? A.You will take some tests. Her name is Paula, so we call her Miss Paula. The first time we met her she said we were going to be good friends and that good friends were always nice to each other. Miss Paula has been teaching us a lot of things. Some of us used to get in trouble for talking in the hallway (过道). Miss Paula says she can't change the rule that we can't make noise in the hallway but we can still talk to each other. She is teaching us sign language. I already know how to say “hello” and “how are you” with my hands. Now we love it when we have to walk somewhere and we are always quiet except for a laugh or two. Miss Paula likes everybody even Sam and nobody likes Sam. He never does what he's told but now he is doing better. Miss Paula says every single one of us is perfect and beautiful just the way we are. I guess that includes Sam. This week at school was really the best ever. I didn't even get in trouble when I thought I would, because I spilled (洒) milk on my homework and had to hand it in when it was still wet. Miss Paula just smiled and asked “What's this?” So I told her what happened. Miss Paula put it near the window to make it dry. She said the sun had been waiting for such an important job as this and would be happy to help us. Well, I have to go and get ready for bed now. I have school in the morning and I want to wake up early so I will have time to pick Miss Paula some flowers. 5.From the passage we know that Miss Paula ________. You can make your child feel angry, hurt or misunderstood by what you say without realizing it yourself. It is important to give your child the space he needs to grow while gently letting him know that you'll still be there for him when he needs you. Expect a lot from your child, just not everything. Except for health and safety problems, such as drug use or careless driving, consider everything else open to discussion. If your child is unwilling to discuss something, don't insist he tell you what's on his mind. The more you insist, the more likely that he'll clam_up. Instead, let him try to solve things by himself. At the same time, remind him that you're always there for him if he seeks advice or help. Show respect for your teenager's privacy (隐私). Never read his mail or listen in on personal conversations. Teach your teenager that the family phone is for the whole family. If your child talks on the family's telephone for too long, tell him he can talk for 15 minutes, but then he must stay off the phone for at least an equal period of time. This not only frees up the line so that other family members can make and receive calls, but teaches your teenager moderation (节制). Or if you are open to the idea, allow your teenager his own phone that he pays for with his own pocket money or a parttime job. 9.What does the phrase “clam up” in Paragraph 2 probably mean? A.Not allow him to learn driving or take drugs. B.Give him advice only when necessary. C.Let him have his own telephone. D.Not talk about personal things with him. 根据第二段中的“At the same time ... advice or help.(同时,提醒他,如果他寻求建议或帮助时,你会一直在他身边。)” B。 11.The last paragraph is about how to teach a teenager ________. A.how to get along well with a teenager B.how to respect a teenager C.how to help a teenager grow up D.how to understand a teenager 答案:C 解析:推理判断题。 C。 When I woke up, there was only one thing on my mind: what to wear. A billion thoughts appeared through my brain in the closet (衣橱). Not only was it my first day of high school, but it was my first day of school in a new state; first impressions are everything, and it was important for me to impress the people who I would spend the next four years with. After carefully hunting my closet, I proudly came out in a dress from Target. The soft cotton was comfortable, and the specially designed shoulders added a bit of fun. Yes, this dress was the one. An hour later, I felt powerful as I headed toward room 1136. But as I entered class, my jaw (下巴) dropped to the floor. Sitting at her desk was Mrs Hutfilz, my English teacher, wearing exactly the same dress as me. I kept my head down and tiptoed (踮着脚尖) to my seat. I made it through my simple introduction speech until Mrs Hutfilz stood up, jokingly saying that she liked my style. Although this was the moment I had been afraid of from the moment I walked in, all my anxiety surprisingly melted away, and the students paid attention as I shared my story. My smile grew as I laughed with the students. After class, I stayed behind, talked to Mrs Hutfilz and had a humorous and real conversation. Looking back four years later, the ten minutes I spent afraid of giving my speech were really not worth it. My first period of high school certainly made the day unforgettable in the best way and taught me that Mrs Hutfilz has a brilliant sense of style! 13.Why did the author pay great attention to her clothes on the first day of high school?
