A Lion dance, which mimics (模仿) a lion with kung fu and acrobatic (杂技的) styles, is a traditional Chinese performing art that could often be seen during festive occasions like the Spring Festival. It's believed to have started in the Three Kingdoms period and peaked in the Southern and Northern Dynasties. In ancient China, the lion was regarded as a symbol of good luck. The lion dance is often performed in celebrations to this day and in 2006, it was listed as a national intangible cultural heritage Qiu Haiwei, 17, and Huang Qingliang, 16, are two lion dance lovers in Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region. They started learning the dance two years ago. Though lion dance performances are breathtaking, learning the art is another matter. Dancing on the poles makes the art a fascinating sight. There are 21 poles of heights between 1.2 meters and 2.5 meters with up to 1.8 meters between them. A single false step will send the performers falling to the ground below. As a result, the ancient art form has fallen out of favor with the young generation, as the skills take years to master while only a low wage can be earned. Also, coaches and funding can be hard to find, so it's difficult for a lion dance troupe (表演队) to survive. But since 2017, local authorities in Guangxi have teamed up with companies and schools to help reboot the ancient art. “We must work hard to help pass on the heritage and its spirit to future generations,” Deng Minghua, a national inheritor of the cultural heritage, told Xinhua. 1.What's the longest distance between two poles used for lion dance? A.1.8 meters. B.2.5 meters. C.1.2 meters. D.2.4 meters. A。 2.Why is it difficult for the lion dance troupe to survive? A.No one wants to learn lion dance. B.Mastering lion dance takes decades. C.The payment is not satisfying enough. D.Coaches are not professional enough. C。 3.What can be learned about lion dance according to the text? A.People will perform it only during the Spring Festival. B.Local authorities attach great importance to it. C.It started in the Southern and Northern Dynasties. D.It has been added to the list of tangible cultural heritage. B。 4.What's the text mainly about? A.The future development of lion dance. B.How to perform lion dance successfully. C.Why young generations don't prefer lion dance. D.The importance of keeping lion dance culture alive. B Every summer artists perform at Fringe (边缘) Festivals around the world. Fringe Festivals are a celebration of strange art. They have all kinds of performers—from dancers, musicians and actors to everything in between. The shows give artists a chance to create unusual art. For festival goers, each show is a time to experience something different. The first Fringe Festival was held in Edinburgh, Scotland in 1947. That was also the year of the first Edinburgh International Festival. Artists from around the world traveled to Scotland for the Edinburgh International Festival. They performed at arts centers throughout the city. Eight local theater companies did not receive an invitation, however. In response, they performed at smaller spaces around Edinburgh. These artists performed wherever they could, including churches and even on the street. They started their own cultural event and named it the Edinburgh Festival Fringe. What started as an alternative to the mainstream has now become the world's largest arts festival. Today, there are hundreds of Fringe Festivals taking place around the world. The one in Washington, D.C., called the Capital Fringe Festival, is in its tenth year. It was held in the month of July. Julianne Brienza founded the Capital Fringe Festival. She went to a school for the performing arts, but now sees herself mainly as an organizer of the festival. Brienza believes that fringe performance art is special and can have a powerful effect. The Capital Fringe Festival takes place in different locations throughout the D.C.area. Some performances happen in traditional theaters. Others happen in unusual settings like old, empty buildings or stores after business hours are over. Brienza says the purpose of Fringe Festivals is to explore the limits of art in unique environments. Since 2006, the event has made more than $1.7 million. It is the second largest Fringe Festival in the US and its popularity has grown every year. The Edinburgh Festival Fringe continues throughout the month of August. 5.Who may be interested in Fringe Festivals? A.Strange art lovers. B.Professional artists. C.Classical musicians. A.Why Edinburgh became the global art center. B.How the first Fringe Festival came into being. C.When the Edinburgh International Festival was held. D.Where the Edinburgh Festival Fringe was celebrated. 根据第二段中的“Artists from around the world ... named it the Edinburgh Festival Fringe.” B。 7.What can we know about the Capital Fringe Festival? A.It is the world's largest arts festival. B.It has no fixed places for celebration. C.It can never be accepted by the public. D.It has a longer history than other festivals. 根据第五段“The Capital Fringe Festival ... after business hours are over.” B。 8.Which of the following may Brienza probably agree about Fringe Festivals? A.They raise people's love of festivals. B.They limit the development of arts. C.Formal arts are looked down upon. D.Chances are offered to unusual arts. 根据最后一段中的“Brienza says ... its popularity has grown every year.” D。 C The Lantern Festival is my favorite. Last year, I spent it with my grandparents in their home, where the air felt fresh and the old walls held many stories. In the morning, Grandma tied a pink apron and started making tangyuan. “They're like little balls of happiness—meaning our family stays together,” she said, rolling soft rice dough into perfect rounds. I tried to help, but my first tangyuan looked like lumpy (粗笨的) stones! Grandma laughed and said, “Don't worry! Even funny shapes can taste sweet.” Soon, the kitchen smelled like warm sugar as the tangyuan danced in the boiling water. In the afternoon, Grandpa took me to the busy town square. Sunlight shone brightly, and we saw kids running with toy swords. We made a rabbit lantern with red paper, cutting big ears and a short tail. Grandpa said, “When I was your age, my dad and I made lanterns just like this. Lanterns bring light to dark nights.” Around us, vendors sold colorful sugar paintings and hot candied haws (山楂果) on sticks. At night, the river became a path of stars. My rabbit lantern had a tiny candle that flickered gently. People carried lanterns shaped like fish, pandas, and flowers. The best part was the dragon dance: a long golden dragon moved through the crowd, its eyes shining with red lights. Kids shouted, “Look! The dragon is flying!” I held Grandpa's hand tightly, feeling excited. Back home, we sat on the porch (走廊) eating warm tangyuan. Grandma pointed to the river and said, “See those lanterns? Each one has a wish for good luck.” I watched them float away, hoping my grandparents would stay healthy. The Lantern Festival isn't just about lights and food—it's about laughing together and remembering happy times. Now, when I see a red lantern, I think of Grandma's smile and Grandpa's strong hands making the rabbit lantern. The Lantern Festival is a special time that fills my heart with warmth and love for my family. 9.What did the author and Grandpa make at the town square? A.A fish-shaped lantern. B.A panda lantern. C.A rabbit lantern. D.A dragon lantern. 根据第三段中的“We made a rabbit lantern ... and a short tail.” C。 10.Why did the author hold Grandpa's hand tightly during the dragon dance? A.She was afraid of the crowd. B.She felt excited and happy. C.She wanted to leave quickly. D.She lost sight of Grandma. 根据第四段中的“The best part was ... feeling excited.” B。 11.What can we infer about the author's grandparents? A.They enjoy making lanterns and tangyuan. B.They live far from the town square. C.They don't like noisy festivals. D.They sell candied haws on sticks. A。 12.Which is the best title for the passage? A.My Favorite Food: Tangyuan B.A Night at the Town Square C.The Lantern Festival: Warm Memories of Family D.How to Make a Rabbit Lantern 答案:C 解析:标题判断题。 As the season of celebrations begins, many of us find it difficult to let go of the pressure to pause what we are doing. __1__ They think the holidays often feel like a chain of fake-celebrations, full of forced gratitude, capturing pictureperfect moments for our carefully-planned lives on social media. __2__ Thanksgiving Day is meant to reflect gratitude and connection. Yet, for many, these ideals can feel out of reach, especially when they spend long hours with family members they rarely see or don't feel close to. __3__ Friendsgiving Day, a modern alternative to the traditional familycentered Thanksgiving Day gathering, has been gaining popularity since the early 2000s, officially making its way into Urban Dictionary in 2009. The new holiday offers flexibility and creativity. __4__ Inviting friends often reduces the stress and performative nature of traditional holidays, creating an environment free from the risk of family disagreements. Traveling for Thanksgiving Day can be exhausting, inconvenient, and expensive. __5__ You can celebrate locally or plan your travels for a less hectic (繁忙的), non-peak time. Most importantly, Friendsgiving Day allows us to express gratitude for the people who truly enrich our lives—the ones who are kind, accepting, and supportive in our day-to-day lives. Sometimes, that's not family by blood but by choice. So, skip the pressure of a fine feast, grab some board games, order some pizza, and create your own version of holiday joy. A.Thus, a new holiday, Friendsgiving Day, came into being. B.However, Friendsgiving Day provides a flexible alternative. C.It's a good way to celebrate Thanksgiving Day with our beloved ones. D.For the people who dislike the holiday traditions, those can be disturbing. E.They have a strong feeling to express their gratitude to their friends or family members. F.It allows for new traditions, flexible time, unique divisions of labor and creative decorations. G.Also, they come at a high cost to our wallets as well as our physical and mental well-being. 1.答案:D 解析:根据上文“As the season of celebrations begins ... what we are doing.(随着庆祝季的开始,我们中的许多人发现很难放下手头的事情,摆脱那种压力。)” 2.答案:G 解析:根据上文“They think the holidays ... on social media.” 3.答案:A 解析:根据上文“Thanksgiving Day is ... don't feel close to.(感恩节是为了表达感激和联系。 和下文“Friendsgiving Day ... Urban Dictionary in 2009.(‘朋友感恩节’是传统的以家庭为中心的感恩节聚会的现代替代品,自21世纪初以来越来越受欢迎,并于2009年正式被《城市词典》收录。)” 故选A。 4.答案:F 解析:上文“The new holiday offers flexibility and creativity.(这个新的节日具有灵活性和创造性。)” 5.答案:B 解析:上文“Traveling for Thanksgiving Day ... and expensive.(感恩节旅行可能会让人筋疲力尽,不方便,而且很贵。)” 20%。 Every Christmas, we get “The Box” from my uncle, who owns a local sporting goods store.
