What’s your dream job? How much do you know about it? A group of students from Tianjin found a problem among young teenagers: Most of them have few ideas about their career plans because there is too little help from school or family.
To offer teenagers helpful career guidance (指导), the students from Tianjin TEDA No. 1 Middle School started a project called Dian Zhi Cheng Shi. “Our survey shows that over 70 percent of students want to know more about different jobs,” they said.
“Doctors, accountants and lawyers are the top three,” said Wang Xinran, the leader of the project. Based on (基于) students’ needs, the team interviewed (采访) 32 workers in different fields and posted their interviews on social media. They shared true stories behind each job, allowing students to learn about the jobs in depth (深入地). “We also invited these people to give speeches in our school so that students could talk to them face to face,” said Wang.
Team member Lu Jinyan said his most special interview was with a photographer (摄影师). “I used to think being a photographer was cool. But now I know that they need to deal with lots of problems, such as a sudden change of weather. They also need to communicate with different people.”
But the project doesn’t mean to disappoint students by telling them the truth. “We want to show the workers’ love for their jobs,” said group member Zhao Yajie. “The name of the project means to turn a career into a poem. Everyone has a favorite colour, and mine is blue. It’s not just a colour—it’s the sky on a sunny morning, and the deep ocean (海洋) hiding secrets. Blue is everywhere, and it always makes me feel peaceful and calm.
Two years ago, I failed both maths and English. I felt very sad. And I didn’t want to talk to anyone. My parents were worried about me. So, they took me on a trip to the seaside. During the trip to the coast, I fell in love with blue. Standing on the beach, I watched seawater dance. The water shone under the sun, and tiny fish swam near the rocks. They looked like blue stars. Even the salty air seemed to shimmer (闪烁) with blue light. That day, the sea didn’t just look beautiful—it felt like a friend whispering, “Relax. Everything’s okay.”
Back home, blue stayed with me. My bedroom walls are painted sky-blue, helping me relax after busy school days. When I wear my blue sports shoes, I’m ready for an adventure (冒险)—like the time I joined a science fair and built a model plane that shone bright blue when flying. It won second place. Blue isn’t just calm, but it’s quietly brave. Just like the ocean, brave people are not afraid to go to deeper areas.
Blue means trust and peace, like the quiet minutes before the sun goes down. But it also means energy. My favorite colour isn’t boring. It’s a peaceful heartbeat in a noisy world.

Have you ever noticed how colours make you feel? Artists and scientists agree that colours have a powerful connection to our moods. How can different colours change our moods?
Warm colours
Red, orange, and yellow are warm colours that give us energy. Red makes us feel excited or nervous—that’s why traffic signs can easily catch our attention. Orange creates a friendly vibe (气氛), like autumn leaves. It makes people feel lively and happy. Yellow brings sunshine feelings, making us happy and relaxed. But too much bright yellow can sometimes feel uncomfortable.
Cool colours
Blue, green, and purple are cool colours that calm us down. Blue helps us feel peaceful—think of a quiet lake or clear sky. Green reminds us of nature and makes us feel energetic. Purple seems creative and special. These colours appear in many bedrooms because they help people rest.
Neutral (中性的) colours
Black, white, gray, and brown don’t shout like warm colours or whisper like cool ones. White makes spaces look clean and open, while black can look powerful. Too much gray might make someone feel bored.
Our feelings about colours connect to personal experiences. If your best friend always wears green shirts, green might make you feel happy. Cultural meanings matter too: while white means purity in some countries, it represents sadness in others. Whether you’re picking clothes or decorating your room, remember that colours speak a silent language that everyone understands

Have you ever wondered if the colour of our bedroom can affect (影响) how well we sleep? Some studies show that it’s true, because colours can influence our moods. Our pre-sleep feelings are also important for quality sleep. So, what bedroom colours should we choose for a good night’s sleep? People usually connect blue with calmness and relaxation, making it one of the best colours to paint our bedroom. Blue reminds us of calm things like the sea or the sky. It can even help make our heart beat slower, which helps us relax. A survey shows that people in blue bedrooms sleep longer than those in bedrooms of other colours. Just be careful-dark blue might sometimes make people feel sad.
However, warm colours might be the opposite. Colours like red, orange, and yellow have long wavelengths (波长). These colours are very stimulating—they’re like a wake-up call for our brain,so we’d better avoid these colours.
Like blue, green can also be a good choice for a bedroom colour. It brings a touch of nature into our room. This relaxing colour can bring comfort, peace, hope, and happiness to people, making them feel like being outside in a quiet garden.
If blue and green aren’t quite your style, don’t worry. A simple white room can also create an ideal sleep environment. It keeps the brain from getting too active, and gets us ready for sleep.
A suitable bedroom colour is a helper for a good night’s sleep. However, personal preference (喜好) is the most important. If you prefer a colour that’s not mentioned, that’s okay! After all, a bedroom should be a place where we feel relaxed and comfortable. So, when choosing a bedroom colour, think about your own feelings.

Having a teenager at home can be a real headache. Many teenagers smoke, wear strange hairstyles and even fight. Basically, they are often taking risks. Earlier studies have shown that teenagers are more likely to make irrational decisions than people from any other age group, including children and adults. Is it that teenagers are too young to tell right from wrong?
Not really. So what’s the reason? According to Laurence, a teacher from a US university, the reason is that teenagers care a lot about how their peers (同龄人) view them—that is “peer influence”. As children enter their teenage years, they spend more time with their friends and classmates, and they also care more about what they think of them.
This makes teenagers make decisions without thinking about the costs. In a test, a group of teenagers were asked to play a video driving game. When they played with their friends, watching around them, they took more chances and drove more carelessly because that would increase their possibility of winning. But when they played alone, they drove more safely.
Why do peers have such a big influence on teens’ behavior? As Laurence sees it, a teenager’s brain is like a car with a good accelerator (油门) but a weak brake (刹车). The “accelerator” is fully developed by teenage years, while the “brake” is still not fully developed. When teenagers are watched by their peers, they usually push hard on the accelerator. With their weak brake, it is likely that they are going to end up in an accident. But the good news is that a violent (暴力的) teenager doesn’t necessarily become a violent adult. About two-thirds to three-quarters of violent youth grow out of it. “They get more self-controlled.”
1.What does the underlined word “irrational” in the first paragraph mean?
A.Quick. B.Crazy. C.Careful. D.Correct.
2.Why are teenagers often taking risks according to the text?
A.They like difficult tasks.
B.They care about costs.
C.They are too young to tell right from wrong.
D.They care a lot about what their peers think of them.
3.How does Laurence explain the effect of peer influence on teens’ behavior?
A.By using a metaphor (比喻).
B.By giving examples.
C.By presenting research findings.
D.By performing an in-depth analysis (分析).
4.According to the text, with peers around them, teenagers tend to (倾向于) ________.
A.use more self-control
B.focus more on short-term benefits
C.perform better than when they are alone
D.become more careful about what they do
5.What can we learn from the text?
A.Peer influence is bad for teenagers.
B.Teenagers are easy to have traffic accidents.
C.Most of the teenagers become less violent when they grow up.
D.Teenagers shouldn’t spend all the free time with their friends.
【答案】1.B 2.D 3.A 4.B 5.C

1.词句猜测题。根据“Many teenagers smoke, wear strange hairstyles and even fight. Basically, they are often taking risks.”可知,他们吸烟、打架、冒险等行为,说明这些决定是“不理智的”,即:疯狂的决定,故此处划线部分意为“疯狂的”,和crazy意义相近。故选B。

When they played with their friends, watching around them, they took more chances and drove more carelessly because that would increase their possibility of winning. But when they played alone, they drove more safely.”可知,当朋友围观时,青少年在游戏中更冒险,说明他们更关注短期利益,而非长远后果。故选B。
5.细节理解题。根据“About two-thirds to three-quarters of violent youth grow out of it. ‘They get more self-controlled.’”可知,约2/3到3/4有暴力倾向的青少年长大后不再暴力。故选C。
Many people believe that a child’s creativity can only be produced in the warmth of a loving family. However, a study showed that this is not always true.
Although it sounds impossible, the study has found that many creative people had difficult childhoods. In fact, many well-known artists developed their special talents because of their difficult childhood experiences. They always used art as a way to stay away from pain (痛苦), creating imaginary worlds so they had more freedom to express themselves. Famous examples include artists like Vincent van Gogh and Franz Kafka.
Experts explain that there are two main ways creativity develops. One is the positive inspiration. When children have caring parents, they learn from this positive action and grow confidently. The other is coping creativity. When children feel no one cares about them, they might use drawing, writing, or music to comfort themselves.
Interestingly, challenges can actually increase creativity, but not enough caring contributes to worries. Research shows early childhood experiences shape creativity patterns and that some challenge helps shape creativity, but too much challenge is bad for people’s social skills.
Modern life creates new challenges. With parents working longer hours and greater competition in learning, many children spend more time alone indoors. This leads to problems such as worries and poor social skills. To solve these problems, schools can help by offering art and music programs, training teachers to notice creative students and providing advice for children with problems.
The most important lesson is balance. While challenges can produce creativity, love and support are more important. As one expert says, “Creativity grows best when children feel safe enough to discover but supported enough to take challenges,” Parents and teachers should encourage children’s talents while making sure they feel understood.
1.What does Paragraph 2 tell us about art?
A.It is often loved by children with happy experiences.
B.It helps some children feel less pain and more freedom.
C.It allows children to draw a world without thinking much.
D.It requires children to have creativity and rich imagination.
2.Why is Vincent van Gogh mentioned?
A.To give us some advice on how to build up talent.
B.To show an unhappy childhood helps develop talent.
C.To tell us the bad influences of an unhappy childhood.
D.To show an unhappy childhood would be bad for artists.
3.What does the underlined part “contributes to” in Paragraph 4 mean?
A.Mixes. B.Stops. C.Avoids. D.Causes.
4.How does the writer organize Paragraph 5?
A.By giving a situation and then supporting it with examples.
B.By showing a problem and then asking some questions about it.
C.By describing problems and then giving ways on how to solve them.
D.By describing a fact and then using numbers to show it is true.

Do you know anyone with ADHD? ADHD can make it hard for them to keep their mind on things or control their energy. It can cause problems at school, with friends, or at home. In recent years, more teens in North America have been found to have ADHD.From 2009 to 2017, the number grew from 8% to 9%.
ADHD can be caused by genes (基因) or the environment. Studies show that too much screen time can harm attention, memory, and reaction (反应) control. But how do different types of social media affect (影响) the development of ADHD symptoms (症状)? Do ADHD symptoms change over time because of screen time?
Scientists studied nearly 4,000 teens’ habits for five years. The teens also took tests on thinking skills like planning and remembering.
Scientists found that the more time a teen spent on screens, the more ADHD symptoms they reported in that same year and the next. These symptoms included having trouble paying attention and acting without thinking. High screen time also led to lower test scores. This shows that spending too much time on screens might affect how the brain works with information.
Scientists found that social media seemed to have the biggest effect on ADHD symptoms. This is because they can mess with an important brain skill called “stopping behavior”. This skill helps us pause before acting, like when we need to stop ourselves from saying something or wait for our turn. Social media can make it hard to learn this skill.
Although more research is needed to know how social media affects teens’ brain growth, there are still things teens can do to help themselves. For example, set limits (限制) on screen time, get enough sleep, try outdoor activities or develop hobbies. By making smart choices, teens can keep their brains healthy and still enjoy media in small amounts.

2.How can social media affect a teen’s brain?
A.By causing headaches. B.By reducing their creativity.
C.By making it harder to learn self-control. D.By harming their problem-solving skills.
3.What does the passage suggest about the future of ADHD research?
A.It will study how genes help teens with ADHD.
B.It may study how to stop ADHD before it starts.
C.It will look into how social media affect brain health.
D.It may explore ways to replace social media with sports.
4.What can we know from the passage?
A.Screen time affects genes related to ADHD.
B.Social media is the main cause of ADHD in teens.
C.Outdoor activities help improve thinking skills greatly.
D.Longer screen time leads to ADHD symptoms over time.

When Xu Shixiao went to work as usual in a company in Nanchang, Jiangxi Province, five years ago, she was surprised to get a call from her previous (之前的) coach, asking about her willingness to return to canoeing (皮划艇) and compete in the Tokyo Olympic Games. Xu quickly made her decision.
“I left my job as a manager, told my family and went back to training three days later. There was not much time left for me to prepare for the Olympics,” Xu thought back.
On Aug 7, 2021, Xu and her partner, Sun Mengya, won the gold medal in the first women’s canoe double 500m event at the Tokyo Olympics. It was also the first Olympic gold medal for China in the event.
Yet Xu’s journey to the Olympics was bumpy—she faced lots of difficulties, such as her condition after years of retirement (退役) and her parents' disagreement because they thought it was time for her to get married.
“It was really a hard decision for me to go back to being an athlete after four years of retirement,” said Xu, “I didn’t want to regret not competing for a gold medal. I desired to be a champion. I had nothing to lose even if I failed.”
To catch the chance to go back to canoeing on the international level, Xu started her unbearable training. She began her daily exercises in the early morning and ended at 10: 30 p.m. It was a hot July in 2017 in Nanchang, where it could be 40 degrees centigrade in summer. Xu stayed in the sun for hours every day on her canoe. But her daily schedule was hardly influenced. “At the beginning, it really hurt. When the pain reached the highest point, I couldn't feel my arms after that.” she added.
More than two months of such hard training finally paid off. Xu won two gold medals at the 13th National Games in two women’s canoe events. In 2019, she partnered with Sun to get their ticket for the Tokyo Olympics by winning the gold medal at the ICF Canoe Sprint World Championships. Finally, they achieved success in Tokyo.
Compared with athletes who were in their early 20s, Xu’s recovery was slower. But the active time for athletes got longer. “Age is not a problem anymore for an athlete in the age of technology,” said Xu.
The Olympic medalist will go for competitions at home and abroad this year. She is also looking forward to taking part in the next Olympics.

When I was young, I worked in San Francisco. I did my job well and my future was promising. I was alone in the world and I was happy. I didn’t have to work on Saturdays. I enjoyed my time off in my little sailboat on San Francisco Bay (海湾). One Saturday afternoon, I sailed out too far. The strong wind pushed my sailboat out of the bay, into the Pacific Ocean (太平洋).
That night, when I had lost all hope, a small British boat saw me and took me on board. The boat was sailing to London. The voyage was long and stormy. I worked as a sailor to pay for my trip.
When I arrived in London, my clothes were old and dirty. I had only one dollar in my pocket. With this dollar, I ate and slept for the first twenty-four hours. During the next twenty-four hours, I didn’t eat and I didn’t sleep. The following morning, I went to Portland Place. I saw a child walking past, holding a big pear.

C.A Trip to the Seaside D.How Colours Influence Moods

1.What may happen if a student has ADHD?
A.They may have trouble paying attention in class.
B.They must take medicine every day to feel better.
C.They could feel very tired and sleep during lessons.
D.They may often forget to bring their books to school.
