B As more students begin to use computers for longer time, more of them are suffering from (遭受) eye strain (疲劳). Just a few hours in front of a computer screen can make a person’s eyes feel tired and painful. A number of eye doctors have studied this growing problem and have found ways to deal with it. Their advice will help keep computer users more comfortable. Here are some recommendations they have made. The light in a room shouldn’t be brighter than the computer screen itself. In many classrooms, however, the lights are far brighter than they should be. Students can block some of this light by wearing baseball caps if they’re allowed at school. A special computer screen should be used to cut down on bright light because it is especially tiring to the eyes. Another problem to avoid is the wrong kind of contrast (对比) on the screen. It is best to have dark letters on a light background. This causes less eye strain than light letters on a dark background. Students should also be seated so that they are looking down at the computer screen rather than straight ahead, which is a far more tiring angle (角度). The top of the screen should be a little lower than the top of the head. Any document (文档) which is being typed in should be placed so that it is in the same line of sight as the screen. The length of time students spent in front of a computer screen leads greatly to eye strain. Students should take frequent breaks by looking away from the screen every fifteen or twenty minutes. During that time, they should either close their eyes or focus on an object at a distance. Long-term computer use can dry out the eyes, so students should remember to blink (眨眼睛) frequently while in front of the screen. Blinking helps keep the eyes wet with natural tears and provides much-needed moments of rest. 29.According to the passage, what makes a person suffer from eye strain? A.Staying up too late. B.Using computers too much. C.Watching too much TV. D.Reading books for a long time. 30.What can we know from Paragraph 2 and Paragraph 3? A.Students can cut down some of this light by wearing glasses. B.The light in a room should be brighter than the computer screen. C.Students can use a special computer screen to increase bright light. D.Students can control the contrast on the screen to reduce eye strain. 31.What is the correct posture (姿势) for students when using the computer? A.Standing straight and looking down at the computer screen. B.Sitting much lower than the screen in front of the computer. C.Sitting a little higher than the screen in front of the computer. D.Keeping the top of the head at the same height as the screen. 32.What’s the main idea of the passage? A.How to relax our eyes when using computers. B.How to deal with eye strain when using computers. C.How to avoid bright light when using computers. D.How to keep a correct posture when using computers. C Recently, the topic of “premade food (预制菜) in schools” has caused extensive debates. China’s Ministry of Education has warned against schools serving precooked meals to students, after parents complained they may be unhealthy and unsafe for children to eat. Teenagers need to eat food that is good for their bodies while they’re still young so that they will grow up to be healthy adults. So it is necessary for school cafeterias (食堂) to provide nutritious and healthy food. With this in mind, the government has introduced a new food safety rule that will improve nutrition and health standards in schools. The rule came into force to require the heads of primary and middle schools to eat with students in their cafeterias. Schools will also be required to show the public the information about food sources and suppliers (供应商). The rule also suggests that parents should eat with students at school in order to provide advice on food safety and nutrition. Schools must try to find food safety problems and solve them in a timely manner. “If a school is caught buying low-quality food or failing to report food safety incidents (事件), the head of the school will be warned, fired or handed over to law enforcement (执法机关),” the rule says. Parents across China have become angry about food safety incidents in schools, according to the Beijing News. The most recent example happened in March at the Chengdu No.7 High School Development School. Parents posted videos and photos of moldy (发霉的) food that was served in the schools’ cafeteria, China Daily reported. Finally, the head of the school was fired. In October, the head of an international school in Shanghai was fired after health and education authorities found moldy tomatoes and onions in the school’s kitchen. What do other schools do? Schools in other countries have many ways to ensure food safety. For example, many parents in Australia volunteer in their children’s school cafeterias, according to China National Radio. These parents do their best to see that their children are served nutritious food. 33.What does the word “nutritious” in Paragraph 2 mean in Chinese? A.安全的 B.有营养的 C.足量的 D.健康的 34.What can we know from Paragraph 4? A.Food safety problems can be easily solved. B.Teenagers should go home to eat meals every day. But he didn’t care much about anything around him. He just wanted to be a large tree. Every year, the tree grew taller. As he grew, he still complained, “How I wish I were as tall as the other trees!” In autumn, some people always came and cut down some of the largest trees. The fir tree was curious. “Where did they go?” the fir tree asked one day. “I saw many ships with masts (船桅) and they smelt like fir. I think they must be those trees,” a bird said. “How I wish I could go to the sea like them!” said the tree. When Christmas came, many young trees were cut down. “Where did they go?” asked the tree again. “I saw people decorate them with beautiful things at their homes,” said a bird. “Oh, I wish it could happen to me,” said the tree. Finally, the fir tree was cut down before a Christmas and brought to a large house. Some young ladies decorated him. There were also some candles among his leaves. “Oh, I wonder what will happen. Maybe my old friends from the forest will come to look at me; Maybe I will...; …will…,” he thought and trembled (颤抖) with joy. At the same time, a candle fell and burned some leaves. The ladies quickly put out the fire. After that, some children took the things off the tree. All the branches were broken, but no one noticed it. “I won’t tremble tomorrow!” thought the tree. “I will enjoy what I have now!” The next morning, however, some people took the tree into the loft (阁楼). For days, nobody came. “People cannot plant me in winter, but when spring comes, I can go out arid enjoy life,” thought the tree. Some mice came out of a hole. The tree told them about his old days. But later, they got bored with his stories and never came back again. “It is pleasant when the mice sit around and listen to my story. But I will enjoy myself when I am brought out again,” the tree thought. One morning, people came to clean the loft. The tree was taken out of the corner. “Now a happy life will begin again. I will enjoy life,” he thought. However, at that time, some children saw him and laughed, “Look at the ugly old Christmas tree!” The tree looked at himself and thought of his old happy days—his youth in the forest, the wonderful Christmas Eve and the nice talk with the mice. “I didn’t enjoy myself when I should have done so. It’s too late now,” said the tree. At last, a man came and cut the tree into small pieces and threw them into the fire. 一Adapted from The Fir Tree 37.What do we know from the beginning of the story? These parents do their best to see that their children are served nutritious food. 33.What does the word “nutritious” in Paragraph 2 mean in Chinese? A.安全的 B.有营养的 C.足量的 D.健康的 34.What can we know from Paragraph 4? A.Food safety problems can be easily solved. B.Teenagers should go home to eat meals every day. A.To build more than one cafeteria. B.To improve the conditions of their cafeterias. C.To show the public where their food comes from. The place he lived was beautiful and warm. There was warm sunshine, fresh air and kind animals around him.
