What do you think is the most important thing in our life, to keep young, to be rich or to be successful? No matter what you want to be, everyone wants to be happy. However, few know how to make it. Money and success alone do not bring us happiness. Aristotle, a Greek thinker, said, “Happiness is up to ourselves.” In other words, we make our own happiness. Here are some ways to help you be happier.
First, enjoy the simple things in life. Too often, we spend so much time thinking about the future, for example, getting into college or getting a good job. In that way, we are unable to enjoy the time now. We should enjoy life’s simple happiness, such as reading a good book, listening to your favorite music, or spending time with close friends. If people have some close friends, they often live more happily and healthily.
Another way of living a happy life is to be active and have hobbies. Hobbies can help you forget your problems. Many people enjoy dancing, or playing a sport, such as swimming. You can forget about your problems by only thinking about the activity.
Finally, many people find happiness in helping others. Scientists believe that people feel good when they spend their time helping others. If you want to feel happier, do good things for someone. You can help a friend with his or her studies, go shopping to buy food for the old, or just help out around the house by washing the dishes.
23.How many ways are mentioned (被提到) to help people be happier?
A.2. B.3. C.4. D.5.
24.The underlined word “it” in Paragrap1refers to “_________ ”
A.keeping young B.keeping healthy C.being happy D.becoming rich
25.We can do many things to enjoy life’s simple happiness except (除……外) _________.
A.Reading a good book. B.Spending time with friends.
C.Listening to music. D.Going around the world.
26.The writer thinks that _________.
A.everyone knows how to live a happier life B.it’s wrong to spend time on work
C.hobbies take us too much time D.helping others can make us feel happy
D
①Tears (眼泪) are powerful. They are more than just drops on our faces. They play important parts in our lives.
②When we are babies, tears are our way of telling our needs. Whether we are hot, hungry or in discomfort, big salty tears pour down our faces, showing our parents that something is wrong. It is a simple but useful way for us to ask for attention before we have the words to do so.
③As we grow older, we don’t cry too much. But, our body never stops making tears. We don’t feel them, but they are there. Tears of this kind are always cleaning our eyes. If they were not there, our eyes would quickly dry out and can’t see things clearly.
④We also make tears when we are sad. Watching a sad movie might make us cry. Saying goodbye to a good friend who is moving to another city might make us cry. These tears also have a purpose. They help us release (释放) those bad feelings inside us, so they are good to our mental (心理) health.
⑤Sometimes, we’re having a great time with our friends. We laugh so hard that we start to cry. Yes, tears are not just for sadness. Many of us cry when we are happy too. These tears are called “happy tears”. Sharing the moments of happiness and the happy tears can bring us closer to our friends and family.
⑥Nature gives us many tools to keep us healthy. Tears are just one of the tools that we cannot live without.
27.If there were no tears made by our body, what would happen to our eyes?
A.They would stay the same. B.They would quickly dry out.

B.Our body stops making tears when we grow older.
C.Tears can help us in many different ways in our whole life.
