B I have to say it is rather uncommon for males of my age to be classical music enthusiasts. I was not born into a musical family and neither of my parents learned classical music. There wasn’t much music in my home either. So, how did it all start? The story dates back to the times when I was in kindergarten, which has classical music CDs to offer parents. Thinking that it wouldn’t be a bad idea to get me some music to listen to, my parents ordered them without any ambition of developing an interest in classical music or whatsoever. Without knowing who Bach, Vivaldi and Chopin were or what to expect, I just played the CDs one after one and grew increasingly fond of them. What took place meanwhile was my piano studies, which again exposed me to classical music. But I have to admit the beginner pieces sounded rather uninspired and dull to me. Thanks to YouTube, I was able to explore more than what my first piano teacher offered — from piano to orchestral music, from Bach to Scriabin. Very often, I didn’t practise the pieces my teacher assigned, but the pieces I truly loved! It’s also through the Internet that I discovered one of my piano idols later, Grigory Sokolov. Later on, I became interested in not only the music itself, but also composers and music history. I still remember in a 28-day outdoor program in Australia organized by my high school, we weren’t allowed to use our mobile phones and there wasn’t any piano either. What I could only do was to repeatedly recall Chopin’s Preludes (前奏曲) Op. 28 when walking up the hills. I felt peaceful as usual, but even happier with growing enthusiasm for music. To me, classical music explores the deepest emotions of humanity but can be so humorous as well. The magic of it lies in its ability to cast light on aspects of human conditions and, at the same time, to go beyond the reality. 4. What do we know about the author’s parents? A. They knew nothing about music. B. They had to purchase music CDs. C. They never pushed him to love music. D. They rarely valued his creating talent. 5. What can be inferred from the author’s piano studies? A. Online resources benefited him a lot. B. Music history seemed more inviting. C. He recognized the teacher’s advice. D. The piano classes made him sleepy. 6. Why does the author mention the 28-day outdoor program? A. To stress his eagerness to sing. B. To show his passion for music. C. To complain about its strict rules. D. To prove music’s role in calming. 7. What does the author think of classical music? A. It focuses on poetic lyrics. B. It escapes from the reality. C. It gives insights into life. D. It is a peace-seeking art. C While you do the dishes or drive to work, your mind is likely not on the task at hand; perhaps you’re composing a grocery list or daydreaming about retiring in Italy. But research published in the Journal of Neuroscience suggests you might be taking in more than you think. In the study, participants practiced a simple task in which they pressed keyboard buttons corresponding to the direction of arrows that lit up on a screen. But there were patterns hidden within the task that the participants were unaware of — and they learned these patterns without consciously noticing them. The researchers found that when participants reported letting their minds wander, they adapted to the task’s hidden patterns significantly faster. “This is an exciting and important piece of work, especially because the authors opted for a nondemanding task to check how mind wandering would affect performance and learning,” says Athena Demertzi from the University of Liège in Belgium. Previous related research focused more on long and demanding tasks, she says — on which zoning out is typically shown to have a negative effect. But the results are not clear-cut, says Jonathan Smallwood, a psychology researcher at Queen’s University in Kingston, Ontario. “I don’t think that this means the mind-wandering episodes themselves cause implicit (隐性) learning to occur, ” he says. “Rather, both emerge at the same time when people go into a particular state.” Neither Smallwood nor Demertzi was involved in the new study. Using EEG (脑电图) recordings, the team found that during the test periods, participants’ brains produced more of the slow waves that are dominant during sleep. “Perhaps mind wandering is like a form of light sleep that provides some of that state’s learning benefits,” says Péter Simor, lead author of the recent study. To better understand whether mind wandering might compensate (弥补) for lost sleep, Simor and his colleagues next plan to study sleep loss. 8. How does the author introduce the topic? A. By setting relatable scenes. B. By defining a new concept. C. By presenting a research timeline. D. By providing historical background. 9. According to Athen a Demertzi, what may happen if a task becomes more demanding? A. Mind wandering may increase. B. Zoning out may hurt performance. C. Hidden patterns may be easier to detect. D. Participants may adapt to the task faster. 10. What is Péter Simor doing with his remark in paragraph 5? A. Taking back an earlier claim. B. Ruling out Smallwood’s view. C Presenting conclusive evidence. D. Offering a possible interpretation. 11. What is the best title for the text? A. Why Our Minds Wander B. How to Stop Mind Wandering C. The Power of a Wandering Mind D. The Dangers of Mind Wandering D As the wild shrinks, zoos are increasingly being looked to as modern-day arks (方舟): the last shelter against a rising tide of extinction. At the end of the 19th century the Cincinnati Zoo tried — unsuccessfully — to breed (培育) passenger pigeons, whose numbers were in sharp decline. And in the early 20th century, the Bronx Zoo started a program that helped save the wild bison. But zoos have to support themselves, and the sorts of animals that draw crowds are not necessarily the sorts that most need help. This makes prioritization unavoidable. “I think it’s a bit of a cop-out to say the public wants to see x, y, or z,” says Onnie Byers, chair of the Conservation Breeding Specialist Group. “This allows institutions to avoid making hard choices. Plenty of species need exactly the expertise that zoos can provide. I would love to see a trend toward zoos’ phasing out species that don’t need that care and using the space for species that do.” Under tight budgets, conservation programs tend to be led by large big-city zoos. But littler zoos are increasingly joining in. The Miller Park Zoo, one of the smallest zoos in the country, is hoping to figure out how to breed an endangered subspecies of squirrel which doesn’t require much space. Sadly, for every success story like the wild bison, there are dozens of other species hanging on the edge of extinction. The po‘ouli went extinct a year or two after the San Diego Zoo made a last-ditch (最后) effort to save it. When the final bird died, his body was immediately sent to a special room in the zoo. Along with thousands of other identical-looking containers, the tubes of po‘ouli cells represent what might be described as a beyond-the-last ditch conservation effort: the Frozen Zoo. For now, at least, all but one of the species in deep freeze still have flesh-and-blood members. But it seems safe to predict that in the coming years, more and more will go the way of the po‘ouli. After they die, they will, in a manner of speaking, live on — one last hope, suspended in a frozen cloud. 12. What does the underlined word “cop-out” in paragraph 3 probably mean? A. A brave choice. B. A necessary step. C. A legal obligation. D. A convenient excuse. 13. Which case is presented as a conservation success? A. The wild bison at the Bronx Zoo. B. The po‘ouli at the San Diego Zoo. C. The passenger pigeon at the Cincinnati Zoo. D. The subspecies of squirrel at the Miller Park Zoo. 14 What do we know about the Frozen Zoo? A. It is a nonprofit for animal rights. B. It is a facility to store animal cells. C. It is a shelter for cold-climate animals. D. It is a program to breed endangered animals. 15. What is the text mainly about? A. Zoos’ choices on what to save. B Zoos’ role in animal conservation. C. The history of zoos' conservation work. D. The reasons why animals end up in zoos. How to Deal with Awkward Silences We all know what it’s like when a conversation dies off and you’re left to sit in silence. ____16____ Thankfully, filling these silences isn’t as difficult as it may seem. Her mother, a traditional Chinese medicine doctor, ran a small clinic in their town. The air inside was always filled with the earthy smell of dried herbs. Her mother had long hoped Li Wei would take over the family business. “Medicine is a good job, and it connects us to our roots,” her mother often said, pointing to the old books lining on the shelves. But Li Wei’s heart belonged to classical dance. She spent hours practicing in secret, and her room was full of posters of international dance groups. One evening, while helping her mother prepare herbs, Li Wei accidentally knocked over a jar of ginseng (人参). As she hurried to clean up, her mother’s voice cut through the silence: “You’re too distracted. This is why you can’t focus on your studies — and the clinic.” Li Wei’s cheeks turned red. “I don’t want to be a doctor!” She shouted. “I want to dance!” Before her mother could answer, Li Wei grabbed her bag and ran out, leaving the clinic door moving. Weeks passed, and the tension between them reached boiling point. Li Wei avoided the clinic, spending long hours at dance practices even though her knees had become swollen and red. When she did come home, the house was full of cold silence, broken only by the occasional noise of her mother’s tool grinding (研磨) herbs. But Li Wei couldn’t miss the way her mother’s eyes looked at her dance shoes, or the soft sighs that came from her during their rare talks. She was eager for her mother’s support. Then came a big chance: a national dance competition. Li Wei’s hands shook as she filled out the application form, her heart beating fast. But when she looked at the bottom of the page, she felt scared. The form needed a parent’s signature, a sad reminder of the gap between her and her mother. Li Wei stared at the application form, her mind racing. _____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ The day of the competition arrived, and Li Wei stood backstage, feeling nervous. _____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $ 威远中学校2026届高三上期期中考试 英语 注意事项: 1. 1. C 5. A 6. B 7. 根据第二段第二句“Thinking that it wouldn’t be a bad idea to get me some music to listen to, my parents ordered them without any ambition of developing an interest in classical music or whatsoever. (我父母认为给我买些音乐听听也不错,就订购了那些古典音乐CD,没有任何要培养我对古典音乐产生兴趣之类的想法。)”可知,作者的父母给作者订购古典音乐CD只是觉得让作者听点音乐不是坏事,并没有培养作者对古典音乐兴趣的意图,也就是他们从未强迫作者去热爱音乐。故选C项。 【5题详解】 推理判断题。根据第三段中的“Thanks to YouTube, I was able to explore more than what my first piano teacher offered — from piano to orchestral music, from Bach to Scriabin. Very often, I didn’t practise the pieces my teacher assigned, but the pieces I truly loved! It’s also through the Internet that I discovered one of my piano idols later, Grigory Sokolov.(多亏了YouTube,我能够探索比我的第一位钢琴老师所提供的更多的音乐——从钢琴音乐到管弦乐,从巴赫到斯克里亚宾。我经常不练习老师布置的曲子,而是练习我真正喜欢的曲子!也是通过网络,我后来发现了我的钢琴偶像之一,格里戈里・索科洛夫。)” 可知,作者通过YouTube探索到了比老师教的更多的音乐,还通过网络发现了自己的钢琴偶像,这说明在线资源使作者收益颇丰。故选A项。 根据第四段“I still remember in a 28-day outdoor program in Australia organized by my high school, we weren’t allowed to use our mobile phones and there wasn’t any piano either. What I could only do was to repeatedly recall Chopin’s Preludes (前奏曲) Op. 28 when walking up the hills. I felt peaceful as usual, but even happier with growing enthusiasm for music.(我还记得在我高中组织的一个为期28天的澳大利亚户外项目中,我们不被允许使用手机,也没有钢琴。我唯一能做的就是在爬山的时候反复回忆肖邦的《前奏曲》作品 28 号。我像往常一样感到平静,但对音乐的热情越来越高,也让我更快乐。)”可知,即使在不能使用手机和没有钢琴的情况下,作者仍然不断回忆古典音乐,并且对音乐的热情更高,这表明了他对音乐的热爱。故选B项。 【7题详解】 推理判断题。根据最后一段“To me, classical music explores the deepest emotions of humanity but can be so humorous as well. The magic of it lies in its ability to cast light on aspects of human conditions and, at the same time, to go beyond the reality. (对我来说,古典音乐探索了人类最深层的情感,但也可以非常幽默。它的神奇之处在于它能够揭示人类生存状况的各个方面,同时又能超越现实。) ”可知,作者认为古典音乐能够洞察人类的生存状况,也就是使人类对生活有深刻的见解。故选C项。 C While you do the dishes or drive to work, your mind is likely not on the task at hand; perhaps you’re composing a grocery list or daydreaming about retiring in Italy. C. Presenting conclusive evidence. D. Offering a possible interpretation. 11. What is the best title for the text? A. Why Our Minds Wander B. How to Stop Mind Wandering C. The Power of a Wandering Mind D. The Dangers of Mind Wandering 【答案】8. A 9. B 10. D 11. 根据第一段“While you do the dishes or drive to work, your mind is likely not on the task at hand; perhaps you’re composing a grocery list or daydreaming about retiring in Italy. But research published in the Journal of Neuroscience suggests you might be taking in more than you think. (当你在洗碗或者开车去上班时,你的思绪很可能并未专注于手头的任务;也许你正在列购物清单,或者正在幻想自己在意大利退休的生活。但发表在《神经科学杂志》上的研究显示,你所接收的信息可能比你自己意识到的要多。)”可知,作者通过描绘贴近生活的场景引入文章主题。故选A。 根据第三段“Previous related research focused more on long and demanding tasks, she says — on which zoning out is typically shown to have a negative effect. (她说,此前的相关研究更多地关注的是那些耗时较长且要求较高的任务——而在这类任务中,注意力不集中通常会被认为会产生负面影响。)”可知,根据阿提恩·德梅特齐的观点,如果一项任务变得更具挑战性,可能会降低工作效率。故选B。 【10题详解】 推理判断题。根据第五段““Perhaps mind wandering is like a form of light sleep that provides some of that state’s learning benefits,” says Péter Simor, lead author of the recent study. (彼得·西莫尔是这项最新研究的领衔作者,他表示:“或许心理游离就像一种浅度睡眠状态,能带来类似浅度睡眠的一些学习益处。”)”可知,彼得·西莫在第5段中的这番言论意欲提供一种可能的解释。故选D。 【11题详解】 主旨大意题。根据第一段“While you do the dishes or drive to work, your mind is likely not on the task at hand; perhaps you’re composing a grocery list or daydreaming about retiring in Italy. But research published in the Journal of Neuroscience suggests you might be taking in more than you think. C。 D As the wild shrinks, zoos are increasingly being looked to as modern-day arks (方舟): the last shelter against a rising tide of extinction. 14. What do we know about the Frozen Zoo? A. It is a nonprofit for animal rights. B. It is a facility to store animal cells. C. It is a shelter for cold-climate animals. D. It is a program to breed endangered animals. 15. What is the text mainly about? A. Zoos’ choices on what to save. B. Zoos’ role in animal conservation. C. The history of zoos' conservation work. D. The reasons why animals end up in zoos. D 13. A 14. B 15. 根据第一段中“And in the early 20th century, the Bronx Zoo started a program that helped save the wild bison.(20 世纪初,布朗克斯动物园启动了一个项目,帮助拯救了野生野牛)”及第五段中“Sadly, for every success story like the wild bison, there are dozens of other species hanging on the edge of extinction.(可悲的是,在每一个像野生野牛这样成功的故事背后,都有几十个其他物种濒临灭绝)”可知,布朗克斯动物园保护野生野牛是成功案例。故选A。 根据第五段中“Along with thousands of other identical-looking containers, the tubes of po‘ouli cells represent what might be described as a beyond-the-last ditch conservation effort: the Frozen Zoo.(和其他成千上万个看起来一模一样的容器一样,装有波欧里鸟细胞的试管代表着一种可被称为‘超越最后努力’的保护措施:冷冻动物园)”可知,冷冻动物园是储存动物细胞的设施。 通读全文,并结合第一段中“As the wild shrinks, zoos are increasingly being looked to as modern-day arks (方舟): the last shelter against a rising tide of extinction. How to Deal with Awkward Silences We all know what it’s like when a conversation dies off and you’re left to sit in silence. ____16____ Thankfully, filling these silences isn’t as difficult as it may seem. Read on to learn how to initiate small talk and deal with awkward silences. • Think of topics ahead of time. Before attending a social event, think of a few “go-to” topics to jumpstart a dead conversation. This will help you to fill the silences instead of struggling for words in the moment. Recent news, local events, popular books and television shows are all good fallback options. ____17____ • Ask open-ended questions. Ask questions that have more than one possible answer. ____18____ They help avoid resulting in short response. For example, instead of asking, “Did you like your high school?”, you could ask, “What did you like about your high school?” • ____19____ As with any good conversation, the biggest key is to listen. If they respond to your question with a short statement such as “Yes”or “No”, that might indicate that they aren’t comfortable talking about a particular subject. Instead, talk about something that you know they're interested in. For example, “I heard you won your football game the other night. I’d love to hear about it.” • Give a compliment (表扬). ____20____ For example, you could say, “I really like your shirt. Where did you get it?” This could move the conversation in another direction while making the other person feel good. Stick to saying nice things if you’re trying to make small talk. A. Keep the conversation flowing. B. It also allows you to spend more time together. C. Listen carefully and respond to their reactions. D. There’s only one word to describe it: awkward. E. This is always a safe bet, as long as it’s appropriate. F. Such questions are likely to get the person talking more. G. However, avoid some subjects that may cause arguments. D 17. G 18. F 19. C 20. 【16题详解】 上文“We all know what it’s like when a conversation dies off and you’re left to sit in silence. (我们都知道当一次谈话结束,你只能静静地坐着时是什么感觉)”说明谈话结束无话可说的局面非常令人尴尬。空处顺接前文,说明无话可说的感觉非常的尴尬。D项“只有一个词可以形容它:尴尬。”符合语境。该项中的awkward是标题中该词的复现。故选D。 【17题详解】 上文“Recent news, local events, popular books and television shows are all good fallback options.(最近的新闻、当地的活动、受欢迎的书籍和电视节目都是不错的后备选择) ”说明最近的新闻,活动,受欢迎的书籍和电视节目都是可以提前选择的话题。 18题详解】 上文“Ask questions that have more than one possible answer. (提出有多个可能答案的问题)”说明想要打破沉默,可以提出有多个答案的问题。空处承上启下,说明这样做的好处。F项中的“Such questions”和时前文中该词的复现,下文中的They指代的也是“Such questions”,说明这样的问题可能会让对方多说话。故选F。 【19题详解】 下文“As with any good conversation, the biggest key is to listen. If they respond to your question with a short statement such as “Yes”or “No”, that might indicate that they aren’t comfortable talking about a particular subject. (与任何好的谈话一样,最大的关键是倾听。如果他们用“是”或“否”等简短的回答来回答你的问题,这可能表明他们对谈论某个特定的话题感到不舒服)”说明本段所给建议为先要认真倾听,在根据听到了的信息做出回应。C项“仔细倾听并回应他们的反应。”适合做本段的主旨句,统领全段。故选C。 【20题详解】 下文“For example, you could say, “I really like your shirt. Where did you get it?” This could move the conversation in another direction while making the other person feel good. Growing up on a farm, Tori James spent much of her early years outdoors, building shelters and playing in muddy streams. The results show that 31 students go mainly for class trips or assignments, 10 out of personal interest, 6 to accompany family or friends, and 1 simply for something different. In short, visits are still largely requirement-driven rather than curiosity-driven. To spark genuine interest in museums, I suggest that the school redesign coursework to offer more interesting assignments, such as treasure hunts and volunteer hours. The school can also partner with local museums to run hands-on workshops. Finally, it is advisable to launch a student museum club to plan weekend visits and share highlights. I sincerely hope the school will consider these suggestions to foster students’ internal motivation to explore museums. The school can also partner with local museums to run hands-on workshops. It is local museums that the school can also partner with to run hands-on workshops. 1】To spark genuine interest in museums, I suggest that the school redesign coursework to offer more interesting assignments, such as treasure hunts and volunteer hours.(运用了that引导的宾语从句以及不定式短语作目的状语) 【高分句型2】Finally, it is advisable to launch a student museum club to plan weekend visits and share highlights.(运用了“it作形式主语,不定式to launch作真正的主语”结构) 第二节 (满分25分) 47. Li Wei, a high school senior, had always felt confused between her mother’s expectation and her own dream. _____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】One possible version: Li Wei stared at the application form, her mind racing. That evening, she arrived at the clinic, seeing her mother was carefully weighing dried herbs at the wooden counter. With a deep breath, Li Wei placed the application form in front of her. Her mother didn’t look up immediately; Li Wei was ready to accept the rejection. Yet, to her surprise, after packaging a herb bag, her mother slowly picked up the form, scanning the competition details without a word. Then, even more astonishingly, she reached for a pen and wrote her name. The day of the competition arrived, and Li Wei stood backstage, feeling nervous. It was her first time to be in such a big event. Great panic almost made her forget how to dance, and to make matters worse, her knees started to hurt. Then surprisingly, she noticed a familiar face in the crowd — her mother holding a small silk bag. “Carry this; it will make you feel more relaxed, ” her mother said, with appreciation. Li Wei had never seen her mother’s eyes like this before. As she stepped onto the stage, the familiar smell of the herbs filled her with strength. She was convinced that mother’s love is a never-ending gift. 词汇激活: 行为类 ①到达:arrive at/get to/reach ②浏览:scan/look through ③登台:step onto the stage/go on stage 情绪类 ①惊讶:surprise/astonishment/shock ②放松:relaxed/at ease 【点睛】[高分句型1] That evening, she arrived at the clinic, seeing her mother was carefully weighing dried herbs at the wooden counter.(运用了现在分词短语作状语) [高分句型2] Yet, to her surprise, after packaging a herb bag, her mother slowly picked up the form, scanning the competition details without a word.(运用了动名词短语作宾语以及现在分词短语作状语) [高分句型3] As she stepped onto the stage, the familiar smell of the herbs filled her with strength.(运用了as引导时间状语从句) 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $
