Four Days on the Great Beach Drive
Day 1: Noosa Heads to Rainbow Beach
Rent a car and make your way towards Noosa North Shore. Along the way, cross the Noosa River and take the third beach access road to officially start your drive. One of the very first regions that you meet is the Great Sandy Biosphere. Continue north via Leisha Track to Rainbow Beach, a picturesque seaside town overlooked by colourful, towering sand cliffs (悬崖).

Once you get here, enjoy the pleasure of driving along one of Australia’s most famous sand roads, 75 Mile Beach.
Day 3: K’gari to Hervey Bay

Here, you can hand-feed kangaroos, meet cockatoos, and learn all about Australia’s crocodiles.

In the San Diego Zoo, there lived Lucas, a four- year- old African penguin (企鹅). Lucas was not like the others because he suffered from a disease known as bumble foot, which includes a range of bad foot conditions that stop animals from standing upright, and a lack of treatment can lead to possible death.
For Lucas, life had been a series of treatments and disappointments (失望). The zoo’s team had tried everything, but nothing seemed to work on his disease. Dr. Beth Bicknese, a member of the zoo’s team, said, “I’ve looked after Lucas for years. I am very sad when Lucas develops pains.”
Then, there was a hope. The zoo’s team got the help of Thera-Paw, a company that designs products to help animals move better.
“The orthopedic shoes (矫形鞋) from Thera- Paw help Lucas to fully join the group and show behaviors that are more typical for a penguin — such as climbing the rocks, swimming, nesting and finding a suitable mate,” said Dr. Beth Bicknese.
Debbie Denton, a senior wildlife care specialist in the team, was there when Lucas first put on his shoes. “We were pleasantly surprised to see the immediate change in him,” she said. “Seeing him move about now gives us hope that he may be OK going forward and able to live a full life.”
With every step Lucas took, he walked better, stood up straighter, and was more balanced. The rocky place that was hard to move around before was now fun to explore for Lucas.

The Chinese dragon, also known as the “loong”, standing for strength, fearlessness and kindness, is a cultural symbol for good business, rich harvests and good health. Similarly, in Harare, Zimbabwe, the China- Zimbabwe Friendship High School hosted lively local dances and drum performances to welcome the Year of the Dragon. At the same time, the students enjoyed Chinese martial arts inspired by a performance from the Henan Provincial Shaolin Wushu Training Center. Brenda Moyo, a local student, found the martial arts challenging yet wonderful.
An acrobatics (杂技) performance in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, enjoyed by Temesgen Yitayew, a student learning Chinese, showed how the friendship between China and Ethiopia was growing stronger. Yitayew thought more events like this should be held to support cultural exchange, carrying the flags of both nations as a symbol of unity.

If you happen to be in Hollywood and see a car go by with no driver at the wheel, don’t be afraid. After more than a year of testing, around 50 driverless robot axis are debuting (亮相) to the public across Los Angeles on Thursday.
The autonomous vehicles (自动驾驶车辆) are run by Waymo, which is owned by Google’s parent company Alphabet. Waymo started giving driverless rides to passengers in San Francisco last year and also operates them in Phoenix.
At first, the rides will be free and open to people who’ve signed up on Waymo’s waitlist, which the company says has 50,000 people. In the coming weeks, Waymo will change to a paid service. The company’s service covers 63 square miles in Los Angeles, from Santa Monica to downtown.
In the beginning, self-driving cars in San Francisco got into trouble with mistakes and controversy. Both Waymo and its competitor Cruse, which is owned by GM, were complained about running red lights, and blocking public buses.
Cruise was involved in (涉及) an accident that left a walker seriously injured in October — causing the company to lose its operating right in San Francisco.
Unions and labor leaders say they’ re concerned that the robotaxis will take away jobs and also be a danger to workers who drive emergency vehicles.
“Autonomous vehicles like the ones that Waymo wants to introduce to our communities have been causing troubles wherever they go,” said Yvonne Wheeler, president of the Los Angeles County Federation of Labor. “It’s clear that this technology has not been well prepared for its use on our roads and in our cities.”
Despite those disagreements, autonomous driving is now a real-world way of getting around for tens of thousands of people each week. Waymo is setting its sights on its next robotaxi debut later this year.
12. What does the underlined word “controversy” in paragraph 4 most probably mean?
A. Trust. B. Cost. C. Appearance. D. Disagreement.
13. Why did Cruise stop operating self-driving cars in San Francisco?
A. It caused a serious accident. B. It was short of money.
C. Its leader changed his mind. D. It took away workers’ jobs.
14 What is Yvonne Wheeler’s attitude towards self-driving cars?
A. Admiring. B. Uncaring. C. Unsupportive. D. Unclear.
15. In which part of a website can we find this text?
A. History. B. Technology. C. Health. D. Education.
D 13. A 14. C 15. B
根据第四段“In the beginning, self-driving cars in San Francisco got into trouble with mistakes and controversy. Both Waymo and its competitor Cruse, which is owned by GM, were complained about running red lights, and blocking public buses. (起初,旧金山的自动驾驶汽车因错误和……而陷入困境。Waymo及其竞争对手——通用汽车旗下的 Cruise——都被抱怨闯红灯和阻挡公共巴士。)”可知,自动驾驶汽车出现了诸如闯红灯、阻挡公交车等问题,这些问题会引发人们的不满和争论,所以controversy意思最接近disagreement。故选D项。
【13题详解】
细节理解题。根据第五段“Cruise was involved in(涉及)an accident that left a walker seriously injured in October— causing the company to lose its operating right in San Francisco. (Cruise在10月卷入了一起事故,导致一名行人严重受伤——这使得该公司失去了在旧金山的运营权。)”可知,Cruise公司因为在十月份发生了一起导致行人重伤的事故,所以失去了在旧金山的运营权,即停止在旧金山运营自动驾驶汽车。故选A项。
根据倒数第二段“ ‘Autonomous vehicles like the ones that Waymo wants to introduce to our communities have been causing troubles wherever they go,’ said Yvonne Wheeler, president of the Los Angeles County Federation of Labor. ‘It’s clear that this technology has not been well prepared for its use on our roads and in our cities.’

由上文“Giving up too soon. (放弃得太早)”可知,本空要说跟“不要放弃”有关的话题,由下文“It may take some time for everyone to grow comfortable with family meetings. But if you hold them regularly (定期) and try to make them better, your meetings can become helpful to everyone in the family. (每个人可能都需要一段时间才能逐渐适应家庭会议。但是如果你定期举行并努力改进,你的家庭会议就能对家里的每个人都有帮助)”可知,即使第一次家庭会议不成功,也不要放弃,故C选项“If your first meeting doesn’t go well, don’t give up (如果你的第一次会议进行得不顺利,不要放弃)”能承上启下,符合题意。故选C。
【17题详解】
由下文“Don’t use your meetings to single out one person for creating a problem and don’t lecture (说教) the kids about the way they act. (不要用会议来单独指出某一个人制造了问题,也不要就孩子们的行为方式对他们进行说教)”可知,本空要说跟“不要说教”有关的话题,A选项“Turning a meeting into a lecture (把会议变成说教)”能引出下文,符合题意。故选A。

F选项“Even so, let them know the adults are open to their opinions (即便如此,也要让他们知道大人们是愿意倾听他们的意见的)”能承上启下,符合题意。故选F。
由上文“Your kids may begin to get off the topic and if you don’t bring the conversation back to the task at hand, you may feel the meeting is pointless. (你的孩子们可能会开始偏离主题,如果你不把谈话带回当前的任务,你可能会觉得这次会议毫无意义)”可知,孩子们可能会偏离主题,故本空要说跟“把谈话带回当前的任务”有关的话题,E选项“In this case, step in and tell them to get to the main topic (在这种情况下,介入并告诉他们回到主题)”能承接上文,符合题意。故选E。
【20题详解】
由上文“Getting into arguments (争吵)”可知,本空要说跟“争吵”有关的话题,由下文“Family meetings are a great time to introduce socially proper ways to deal with disagreements. If the kids start to argue noisily or someone crosses the line, stop them at once. (家庭会议是介绍社会上处理分歧的恰当方式的好时机。如果孩子们吵吵嚷嚷,或者有人越界了,马上制止他们。)”可知,有时候家庭会议最终会变成争吵,故G选项“At times, a family meeting ends up with an endless argument (有时,家庭会议最终会以无休止的争吵告终)”能承上启下,符合题意。故选G。

In the early afternoon, Jack, a 13-year-old boy who loves games, found himself at an important moment in a class race. The blue team, where Jack was, was set against the red team in a friendly competition. Jack was always driven by the desire (渴望) to win because, to him, joy only came from victory (胜利).
Before the race, he was very sure he would win. But then his new black shoes made him trip and fall. It was a moment when he felt bad and thought he might lose.
Suddenly, a voice broke through his sad feeling: “Come on! Let’s run together.” It was Alan, a boy from the red team, giving a helping hand. Jack looked up, surprised and a bit confused. “We’re not on the same team. Why do you want to help me?” he asked.
Alan said something simple but deep: “Winning isn’t everything. It’s just a race, and there are many races in life. I want to be kind to others.” These words hit Jack and made him think again about what’s really important.
Jack slowly got up. His knees (膝盖) still hurt from the fall. He looked at Alan, who was smiling at him. “Thank you,” Jack said quietly and thankfully. Alan just said, “We’re classmates. Let’s finish this race together.”
注意:1. 续写词数应为150个左右;
Jack nodded, and the two of them started running side by side, much to the surprise of their classmates. ______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
From that day on, Jack started to change from caring about winning to helping others more. ______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Jack nodded, and the two of them started running side by side, much to the surprise of their classmates. As they ran, the other students on both teams watched in amazement. Some cheered them on, while others were still trying to understand what was happening. Jack and Alan didn’t seem to care about which team would win. They focused on the joy of running together. Jack's pain from the fall was still there, but he felt a new strength inside him. When they crossed the finish line, the whole class erupted into applause. Jack and Alan looked at each other, their faces beaming with a sense of accomplishment that went beyond winning or losing.
From that day on, Jack started to change from caring about winning to helping others more. He realized that the true value in life wasn't always about coming out on top. One day, he saw a classmate struggling with his schoolwork. Remembering Alan's kindness, Jack offered to help. He spent hours patiently explaining difficult concepts. As time went by, Jack became known as a helpful and kind-hearted boy. He no longer felt the need to always be the winner. Instead, he found joy in making a difference in others' lives, just like Alan had shown him that day in the race.

“The orthopedic shoes (矫形鞋) from Thera- Paw help Lucas to fully join the group and show behaviors that are more typical for a penguin — such as climbing the rocks swimming, nesting and finding a suitable mate,” said Dr.
4. How did the disease affect Lucas?

If you happen to be in Hollywood and see a car go by with no driver at the wheel, don’t be afraid. After more than a year of testing, around 50 driverless robot axis are debuting (亮相) to the public across Los Angeles on Thursday.
The autonomous vehicles (自动驾驶车辆) are run by Waymo which is owned by Google’s parent company Alphabet.
