But that is not true of Thessalonika Arzu-Embry. After all, she’s already got her master’s degree. The North Chicago-area teen started homeschooling at the age of 4. She began having an influence on others soon after. When she was 6 years old, she was an inspirational speaker at an organization called Tabitha House Community Service, a shelter for people who were forced to leave their homes due to the situations such as earthquake, flood and other natural disasters. At the age of 11, she graduated from high school and then earned her bachelor’s degree in psychology in 2013. She completed those classes online as she was traveling for church events and leadership meetings. She doesn’t stop there, though. The teen plans to focus on aviation psychology(航空心理学) for her further study, a decision inspired by her father who is a pilot. She grew up around airplanes and took fights all the time. Her goal is to use it to determine whether pilots are dealing with problems that could have deadly results once the plane takes off — a topic that has been in the news lately. For her, it’s a mix of two of her interests. In her free time, Thessalonika enjoys playing tennis, swimming and being active in her youth group at church. She also has three self-published books, which are on her site. Jump the Education Barrier is written to help students finish college, and in the future aims to help business owners with trends. Her third book The Genius Race, has a wider appeal. It is designed to help people to be geniuses in various areas of life. 4. What can we know about Thessalonika Arzu-Embry from the text? A. She got her bachelor’s degree through online courses. B. She majored in science and technology. C. She started homeschooling when she was 5 years old. D. Being active in her youth group D. Writing another book to help people to be geniuses. 6. Why does Thessalonika write the book “Jump the Education Barrier”? A. To share her own experience with others B. To give students a hand to complete college C. To help people to be successful D. To raise concern about psychology 7. What’s the text mainly about? A. Homeschooling B. The way to be a genius C. The story of Thessalonika D. Three published books 【答案】4. A 5. B 6. B 7. Passwords help. But many can be guessed. Newer phones, tablets, laptops and desktop computers often have strengthened security with fingerprint and facial recognition. But these can be imitated. That is why a new approach, behavioural biometrics (行为生物识别) is gaining ground. It relies on the wealth of measurements made by today’s devices. These include data from sensors that reveal how people hold their phones when using them, how they carry them and even the way they walk. Touchscreens, keyboards and mice can be monitored to show the unique ways in which someone’s fingers and hands move. These features can then be used to determine whether someone attempting to make a deal is likely to be the device’s habitual user. “Behavioural biometrics make it possible to identify an individual’s unique motion fingerprint,” says John Whaley, head of Unifyid, a firm in Silicon Valley that is involved in the field. When coupled with information about a user’s finger pressure and speed on the touchscreen, as well as a device’s regular places of use-as revealed by its GPS unit — that user’s identity can be pretty well determined. Used wisely, behavioural biometrics could be a great benefit. In fact, Unifyid and an unnamed car company are even developing a system that unlocks the doors of a vehicle once the pace of the driver, as measured by his phone, is recognized. Used unwisely, however, the system would become yet another electronic spy on people’s privacy, permitting complete strangers to monitor your every action, from the moment you reach for your phone in the morning, to when you throw it on the floor at night. 12. What is behavioural biometrics for? A. To identify network crime. B. To ensure network security. C. To track online fraud. D. To gather online data. 13. How does behavioural biometrics work? A. By offering and analyzing the operating system of devices. B. By spotting and revealing a device’s regular places of use. C. By restricting and detecting the access to an account of users. D. By monitoring and comparing the ways users interact with devices. 14. What’s the author’s attitude towards behavioural biometrics? A. Objective. B. Concerned. C. Doubtful. D. Supportive. 15. From which section of a magazine can this text possibly be taken? A. Health and wealth. B. Books and arts. C. Science and technology. D. Finance and economics. B 13. D 14. A 15. 根据第一段“Most online fraud (诈骗) involves identity theft. Passwords help. But many can be guessed. (大多数网络诈骗涉及身份盗窃。密码的帮助。但很多都是可以猜出来的。较新的手机、平板电脑、笔记本电脑和台式电脑通常通过指纹和面部识别加强了安全性。但这些都是可以模仿的。这就是为什么一种新的方法——行为生物计量学正在取得进展。)”可推知,行为生物识别用来确保网络安全。故选B。 【13题详解】 细节理解题。根据第二段“It relies on the wealth of measurements made by today’s devices. These include data from sensors that reveal how people hold their phones when using them, how they carry them and even the way they walk. (它依赖于当今设备所做的大量测量。其中包括来自传感器的数据,这些数据揭示了人们在使用手机时如何拿手机,如何携带手机,甚至是他们走路的方式。)”可知,行为识别技术通过监视和比较用户与设备交互的方式起作用的。故选D。 【14题详解】 推理判断题。根据最后一段“Used wisely, behavioural biometrics could be a great benefit. (如果使用得当,行为生物识别技术将大有裨益。)”和“Used unwisely, however, the system would become yet another electronic spy on people’s privacy, permitting complete strangers to monitor your every action, from the moment you reach for your phone in the morning, to when you throw it on the floor at night. (然而,如果使用不当,该系统将成为另一个窥探人们隐私的电子间谍,允许完全陌生的人监视你的一举一动,从你早上拿起手机的那一刻,到晚上把手机扔到地板上。)”可推知,作者客观分析了生物识别技术的使用,故对其态度是客观的。故选A。 根据第一段“Most online fraud (诈骗) involves identity theft. Passwords help. But many can be guessed. Newer phones, tablets, laptops and desktop computers often have strengthened security with fingerprint and facial recognition. But these can be imitated. That is why a new approach, behavioural biometrics (行为生物识别) is gaining ground. Recently, I find that some students always eat fast food for lunch. I don’t think it’s a wise choice. Though fast food is convenient and delicious in taste, it can’t provide us with enough nutrition. To keep healthy and get enough energy from lunch, we’d better take some home cooking for lunch or buy some fresh food from the school canteen. I don’t mean fast food should be refused in our life. So he walked to the back of the classroom to put his work away carefully. There, lying on the carpet in front of the classroom bookcase, was a golden ticket! Karl picked it up. His heart beat faster when he saw that the name line was blank(空白的). He couldn’t believe his luck! The boys and girls in Karl’s class could earn golden tickets by doing well in their study or by being extra helpful or kind. Once a week their teacher drew a ticket out of a box on her desk and let the winner choose a prize. Today was the golden ticket drawing, and here was another ticket, just for him! Karl looked around. No one else was near the ticket. All his classmates were at their desks, laughing and talking with each other. Miss Evans was engaged in grading the papers collected earlier in the morning. Karl decided to write his name on the blank line. Then he could put it into the prize box with the six tickets he’d already earned. With so many chances, one of his tickets would most likely be picked! Then he could choose the pink toy pig for his sister’s birthday, just like he had been hoping. He smiled and reached for the pencil in his pocket. Suddenly his fingers stopped. There was a strange feeling in his chest, and it wasn’t his heartbeat. “Finders are keepers, right?”, he wondered. He looked out of the window and tried to figure it out. On the one hand, he did find the ticket, but he hadn’t earned it. Somebody must have lost it. But on the other hand, he did need this extra ticket for his great plan! 注意:1.续写词数应为150左右;2.请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。 Paragraph 1: Karl looked at the blank name line for a moment. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Paragraph 2: “Karl, I intend to give you another ticket!” Miss Evans said. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】Karl looked at the blank name line for a moment. He knew his plan wouldn’t be so great if he won with a ticket that didn’t belong to him. So he walked up to his teacher. “Miss Evans, I happened to find this ticket on the floor near the bookcase. I think the one who lost it will look for it. And these are mine,” he said, his six tickets into the box. When he turned around to leave, the teacher stopped him. “Karl, I intend to give you another ticket!” Miss Evans said. Karl was amazed and wondered why. Miss Evans smiled and signed to the class to quiet down, “Karl handed in the golden ticket he had just found. I think he is honest and deserves another one!” The class burst into loud applause. Karl happily went back to his seat, eagerly expecting the ticket drawing. He still wanted his name to be picked, but he would feel OK even if it wasn’t. She didn’t have anyone to share them with, so she just gave them away to the children in the neighborhood. This went on for several years and the cookies became quite popular, especially at Christmas time. The parents began to like the cookies as much as the children did, and the old woman’s kitchen became very busy, so the children came to help. Then one Christmas the old woman became ill. There were no cookies, and there was no money to pay the doctor. The children were very sad. Later they had a bright idea, that is, to bake cookies from the old woman’s recipe (食谱). So the children started a cookie store. Soon they had a very good cookie business, with money to pay the doctor as well as to put in the bank. After the old woman got well, she was asked to be the manager of the store, selling special cookies for all the holidays of the year. After the old woman died, the children, now grown up, kept the cookie business alive in her name. Maybe life is like a Christmas cookie. The more you share it with your friends, the more you are likely to enjoy it. 8. What did the old woman like to do? A. Buy cookies B. Bake cookies. C. Sell cookies. D. A. Karl was delighted that he had created a very satisfying work. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $
