Whether you need a restful break after the holiday season or an adventure to kick-start your year, there’s a perfect destination just waiting for you. Here are some of our favorite places to go in February. Montreal, Canada February in Montreal is cold, but the city is tailored to its climate and so is its eating scene. To gain the extra calories you’ll need to function in these icy temperatures, try the traditional cuisine: Montreal bagels and smoked-meat sandwiches. Yet Montreal is more diverse than ever, and its culinary offerings are similarly varied. Expect to taste Korean fried chicken, Haitian griot, Syrian kibbeh and more. United Arab Emirates The UAE is waiting for discovery in this relatively comfortable month, when daytime temperatures remain around 24℃. Beyond Dubai’s tourist beaches, visit Black Palace Beach and Dibba in Fujairah. And enjoy the refreshing cultural experience: explore Al Ain’s old center, Mleiha’s archaeology (考古学), and Sharjah and Abu Dhabi’s world-class museums like the Louvre. Tanzania February is an ideal time to explore northern Tanzania. Groups of wildebeest (角马) cross the plains, and zebras eat the short grass in the southern Serengeti, building up energy before giving birth from early to mid-February. This short dry season offers superb bird-watching. Reserves such as Selous and Ruaha are less crowded with lower rates at hotels. Don’t miss Olduvai Gorge, the “Birthplace of Mankind”, and wildlife-rich Ngorongoro Crater. Singapore Warmth is guaranteed year-round in Singapore, with average temperatures a fairly consistent 27℃. February, however, is one of the driest months — and if you come after Lunar New Year, things aren’t too busy. Perhaps the chief reason to visit, though, is to eat. Hawker centers serve up wonderful food in cheap, canteen-like settings, while top-end restaurants are getting even better. Seek out chili crab, spicy rendang curry and a range of Nyonya dishes, unique to the region. 21. What can tourists do in the UAE? A. Experience exciting water sports. B. Participate in bird-watching activities. C. Explore local history and culture. D. Learn to make smoked-meat sandwiches. 22. Which place is most suitable for animal lovers? A. Tanzania. B. Singapore. C. Montreal, Canada. D. United Arab Emirates. 23. What do Montreal and Singapore have in common? A. They have rich wildlife resources. B. They are crowded after February. C. They can offer delicious meals to tourists. D. They share the same kind of weather. B In the Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region, Jingxi embroidered balls (绣球) — once symbols of love and good fortune — are now telling a new tale of cultural revival (复兴) and economic benefits. With their delicate patterns and brilliant colors, these handcrafted treasures were once at risk of disappearance. Wang Xiufen, captured by their beauty, saw an opportunity to preserve tradition while transforming lives. Despite being unfamiliar with the craft, she refined her techniques through painstaking self-study and hands-on practice. At China’s “Golden Phoenix” innovative product design competition, her embroidered balls won two gold and two silver awards, earning her national recognition. Recognizing their cultural significance of Jingxi embroidered balls, China entitled them as national intangible cultural heritage in 2006. “Yet, despite the remarkable craftsmanship of local craftsmen, many struggled to find a market for their work,” Wang said. Determined to bridge this gap, Wang launched an online store in 2010, introducing Jingxi embroidered balls to a wider audience. As demand grew, she founded China’s first company dedicated exclusively to Jingxi embroidery in 2013, focusing on innovation, production, and scales. To boost efficiency, she introduced modern machinery, automating six production steps while preserving the delicate embroidery and assembly (组装) work for skilled craftsmen. To expand the craft’s reach, Wang has organized over 2,000 free training sessions, forming a core team of 20 expert craftsmen who now support more than 700 women in embroidered ball production. By incorporating elements favored by young people and customizing designs to suit diverse preferences, the craft has gained worldwide recognition. According to Wang, her company exported embroidered balls to the United States, Japan, Australia, Singapore, Thailand, and the Republic of Korea in 2023, generating over 10 million yuan in sales and securing 70 percent of Guangxi’s market share. Looking ahead, Wang remains resolute in her mission. “I hope the embroidered ball industry continues to grow. That has always been my ultimate goal.” 24. How did Wang Xiufen initially gain recognition for her work? A. By selling her products online. B. By opening a large-scale exhibition. C. Through winning a national competition. D. Through her participation in trade shows. 25. What is the correct time order of the following events involving Wang Xiufen? a. She set up China’s first company devoted to Jingxi embroidery. b. She opened an online store to sell Jingxi embroidered balls. c. The balls were listed as national intangible cultural heritage. d. Her company achieved sales figures of over 10 million yuan. A. c→b→a→d B. b→c→a→d C. c→a→b→d D. b→a→c→d 26. Which words can best describe Wang Xiufen? A. Humorous and generous. B. Strict and conventional. C. Cautious and modest. D. Determined and innovative. 27. What is Wang’s attitude towards the future of her business? A. Doubtful. B. Confident. C. Uninterested. D. Worried. C Mosquito-borne diseases like malaria remain significant global health threats. While man-made repellents (驱虫剂) effectively discourage these insects, their chemical components often cause harmful reactions such as skin redness and breathing issues. Natural alternatives, such as essential oils from lavender plants, have shown repellent properties but quickly lose their effect in sunlight and dry up fast, making them hard to use widely. Addressing these challenges, two material engineers from Soochow University in China drew inspiration from nature to design a long-lasting mosquito-repellent fabric. Their study, published in the Journal of Pest Science, focuses on wrapping lavender oil in tiny silk-based containers to achieve lasting protection. The team turned to silk protein, which breaks down naturally and comes from silkworms. Known for its flexibility and slow-release capabilities, silk protein was combined with gum arabic — a natural polymer (聚合物) from trees — to form tiny stable capsules. By continuously stirring the mixture at warm temperatures, researchers successfully added lavender oil into these capsules. Adjusting the oil concentration allowed them to create samples with 5% to 15%lavender content. Once cooled, the capsules settled and were bonded to cotton fabric pieces for testing. To evaluate effectiveness, the team fashioned the treated fabric into gloves and conducted trials with human volunteers. Participants wore either treated or untreated gloves and then put their arms near areas with mosquitoes. Results revealed striking differences: untreated gloves attracted an average of 15 mosquitoes per five-minute session, while gloves with 15% lavender oil saw fewer than one mosquito landing. Even after 40 machine washes, the high-concentration fabric maintained strong repellency, with only 2.5 mosquitoes landing on post-treatment gloves — evidence of its durability. This breakthrough combines eco-friendly materials with advanced material engineering. Unlike traditional repellents, the silk-based capsules gradually release essential oils without frequent reapplication, offering a safer, more sustainable solution. The technology not only reduces reliance on harmful chemicals but also appeals to growing demand for biodegradable (可生物降解的) products. 28. How does the author introduce the topic in the first paragraph? A By comparing the limitations of existing repellents. B. By directly stating the research team’s conclusions. C. By listing statistical data on mosquito-borne diseases. D. By quoting experts’ opinions on chemical components. 29. What experimental condition is necessary during capsule formation? A. Exposure to light for 24 hours. B. Addition of man-made polymers. C. Immediate freezing after adding oil. D. Continuous stirring at warm temperatures. 30. What is the main advantage of the new fabric compared to traditional repellents? A. It combines man- made materials with machine washes. B. It relieves mosquito-borne diseases through reapplication. C. It provides long-lasting protection without frequent reapplication. D. It activates stronger repellent effects during several washing cycles. 31. Which statement best summarizes the new fabric’s significance? A. It reduces fabric durability by using natural polymers. B. It proves silk protein is worse than man-made polymers. C. It joins environmentally safe materials with modern high-tech. D. It brings down lavender oil’s medicinal properties in repellent action. D A recent study by NYU Abu Dhabi reveals that space rays, high-energy particles (粒子) from space, may generate the energy necessary to support underground life on planets and moons in our solar system. This discovery challenges the long-held belief that life can only live near sunlight or volcanic heat. The research, published in the International Journal of Astrobiology and led by Dimitra Atri, shows that space rays are not always harmful. In fact, they can help microscopic life (微生物) survive. When space rays hit underground water or ice, they break water molecules (分子) apart, releasing electrons (电子). On Earth, some bacteria can use these electrons for energy, just as plants use sunlight. This process, called radiolysis (辐射分解), can sustain life in dark and cold places without sunlight. Using computers, the researchers explored how much energy this process could generate on Mars and the icy moons of Jupiter and Saturn. These moons are thought to have hidden water beneath their thick ice layers. The study found that Saturn’s moon Enceladus has the greatest potential to support life through radiolysis, followed by Mars and Jupiter’s moon Europa. “This discovery changes the way we think about where life might exist,” said Atri. “Instead of looking only for warm planets with sunlight, we can now consider places that are cold and dark, as long as they have some water beneath the surface and are exposed to space rays. Life might be able to survive in more places than we ever imagined.” The study also introduces the concept of the Radiolytic Habitable Zone, which is different from the traditional “Goldilocks Zone”. Since space rays are widespread in space, there may be many more life-supporting places in the universe. The findings provide new guidance for future space missions. Instead of only looking for signs of life on the surface, scientists might also explore underground environments on Mars and the icy moons, using tools that can detect chemical energy created by space radiation. This research opens up exciting new possibilities in the search for life beyond Earth and suggests that even the coldest and darkest corners of the solar system could harbor life. 32. What common sense does the NYU study mainly challenge? A. Space rays have caused great harm. B. Life merely depends on solar energy. C. Alien life really exists on other planets. D. Volcanic heat is needed on icy moons. 33. How does radiolysis help sustain life? A. By generating light needed by life. B. By reflecting sunlight to water below icy layers. C. By separating water molecules to free electrons. D. By making dark and frozen areas warmer. 34. What does the underlined word “harbor” in the last paragraph mean? A. Control, B. Hide. C. Extend. D. Transform. 35. What can be a suitable title for the text? A. Space Rays Provide Energy for Hidden Life. B. Icy Moons Hold More Water Than Mars. C. Volcanic Heat Is No Longer Needed for Life. D. Goldilocks Zone Is Redefined by Sunlight. From college students to people seeking a career change to professionals, people are always looking to update their skills. I was never a tidy person — my side of the room always looked like a disaster area, covered with books, shirts, and single socks. Kim, on the other hand, was extremely organized. She labeled each of her drawers and even color-coded her class schedule. She arranged her pens by color and folded her sweaters according to the season; everything had its own spot. Our contrasting habits often made us irritate (惹恼) each other. One evening in the middle of October, things reached a breaking point. After evening self-study, I casually kicked off my basketball shoes. One of them accidentally slid under Kim’s bed. When she found it, her face turned bright red with anger. She picked up the shoe and threw it violently toward my side. It hit my desk lamp, knocking it over. The lamp fell to the floor, and the light bulb broke into pieces all over the pile of T-shirts I had intended to fold. I jumped up, shouting at her for being so disrespectful. She shouted back, complaining about my constant mess. We both rushed toward the door, each determined to be the first to slam (砰地关上) it shut. We might not have come back that night if the phone hadn’t rung just then. I sat on my bed, still angry. Kim picked up the phone. From her brief, unsteady responses, I could tell something was wrong. After she hung up, she crawled (匍匐) into her bed, pulled the covers over herself, and began to cry. The room suddenly fell into a heavy silence, filled with a new kind of unease. As Kim’s quiet crying reached my ears, something inside me shifted. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ I was so focused that I didn’t notice Kim had been watching me cleaning. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $2026届皖南八校高三第一次大联考英语第一部分听力。 excuse me, can you tell me how . much shirt? C. With their delicate patterns and brilliant colors, these handcrafted treasures were once at risk of disappearance. Wang Xiufen captured by their beauty, saw an opportunity to preserve tradition while transforming lives. A. By comparing the limitations of existing repellents. 28. A 29. D 30. C 31. A. Control B. Hide. C. Extend. D. Transform. B 33. C 34. B 35. 根据第二段中“When space rays hit underground water or ice, they break water molecules (分子) apart, releasing electrons (电子). On Earth, some bacteria can use these electrons for energy, just as plants use sunlight. This process, called radiolysis (辐射分解), can sustain life in dark and cold places without sunlight.(当宇宙射线撞击地下水源或冰层时,会分解水分子并释放电子。在地球上,某些细菌能像植物利用阳光那样,通过这些电子获取能量。这种被称为“辐射分解”的过程,能在黑暗寒冷、没有阳光的环境中维系生命)”可知,辐射分解通过分解水分子释放电子,为微生物提供能量,从而维持生命。故选C项。 【34题详解】 词句猜测题。根据划线词前文“This research opens up exciting new possibilities in the search for life beyond Earth and suggests that even the coldest and darkest corners of the solar system could harbor life.(这项研究为在地球以外寻找生命开辟了令人兴奋的新可能性,并表明即使是太阳系中最冷、最黑暗的角落也可能harbor生命)”可知,这项研究为在地球以外寻找生命开辟了令人兴奋的新可能性,表明即使是太阳系中最冷、最黑暗的角落也可能藏有生命,由此可知,划线词harbor意为“藏有”,与B项“Hide”意思相近。 通读全文,尤其是第一段中“A recent study by NYU Abu Dhabi reveals that space rays, high-energy particles (粒子) from space, may generate the energy necessary to support underground life on planets and moons in our solar system.(纽约大学阿布扎比分校最近的一项研究表明,来自太空的高能粒子——空间射线,可能会产生支持我们太阳系内行星和卫星上地下生命所需的能量)”可知,文章主要介绍了纽约大学阿布扎比分校的一项研究表明来自太空的高能粒子——空间射线,可能为太阳系内行星和卫星的地下生命提供必要的能量,故A项“Space Rays Provide Energy for Hidden Life(空间射线为隐藏的生命提供能量)”概括了文章的主要内容,适合作为文章标题。故选A项。 From college students to people seeking a career change to professionals, people are always looking to update their skills. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】 As Kim’s quiet crying reached my ears, something inside me shifted. I realized that my mess wasn’t just annoying — it might be the last thing she needed that night. Without saying a word, I got up and began to pick up the clothes on the floor, which I had ignored for days. I even folded her sweater that had fallen off the bed, because I remembered how much she cared about order. The broken lamp was still there, but I decided that fixing it would show she mattered to me. I was so focused that I didn’t notice Kim had been watching me cleaning. When I turned around, she sat up and said softly, “I’m sorry for throwing your shoe. My grandma is very sick, and I’m scared.” Her words broke my heart. I told her that I understood, and that I would try to be tidier. She smiled, which made me feel hopeful. We agreed to talk more when things got hard, because we both knew that friendship means more than a clean room. 词汇激活 行为类 ①意识到:realize that/be aware that ②捡起衣服:pick up the clothes / gather the clothes / collect the mess ③忽视:ignore/neglect ④折叠毛衣:fold the sweater / put away clothes neatly 情绪类 ①令人生气的:annoying/irritating ②害怕:scared/frightened 【点睛】【高分句型1】I realized that my mess wasn’t just annoying — it might be the last thing she needed that night. 2】Without saying a word, I got up and began to pick up the clothes on the floor, which I had ignored for days.(运用了关系词which引导的非限制性定语从句) 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $
