The sparrows’(麻雀) song, loud and glorious, fills the air. The climbing plant dances gently below a leafless tree, decorating around the lower trunk like a celebration. Sparrows fly nervously in and out, tapping on the branches. This climbing plant is a home for them, sheltering an entire group. But this scene is no longer ubiquitous. Numbers have decreased by almost 70% in the UK since 1970. Sparrows make their homes near human places and finding a tree like this is a blessing. Happily, the climbing plant is still full of chatter and twitter. In Greek legend, sparrows are sacred and often linked with the goddess Aphrodite, symbolizing true love and spiritual connection. I wonder how many people look at sparrows and feel that depth of connection. All birds live brightly in our imagination, connecting us to the natural world, opening up all kinds of creativity. As I stand there, feathered sparrows chatting with each other, there is a spark. Noticing nature is the start of it all. Slow down to listen, to watch. Take the time, despite mountains of homework. Take the time to observe nature, to lose yourself in its patterns, structures, happenings and rhythms. It is how mathematicians and scientists are trained. Alan Turing studied the patterns in nature: the arrangement of petals on the flower, spots on a leopard and lines on a zebra. He was looking for a mathematical formula (公式) for the development of cells (细胞) in living things. Nature sparks creativity. All we have to do is start with the question, Why? The way my mind races in nature, or even when “daydreaming” is way more productive than the work I do in school. I center myself by thinking and thinking while closely watching the movements of sparrows. Who knows where watching sparrows will lead? 4. What do I do on the way home from school? A. Observe the sparrows. B. Decorate the tree. C. Clean up the trunk. D. Listen to blessing music. 5. What does the underlined word “ubiquitous” in paragraph l probably mean? A. Significant. B. Fancy. C. Horrible. D. Common. 6. What is the author’s purpose in mentioning Greek legend? A. To show the imagination of humans. B. To introduce the power of Aphrodite. C. To stress the significance of sparrows. D. To demonstrate the diversity of species. 7. What can we learn from paragraph 4 of the text? A. Nature promotes cell development. B. Nature follows fixed patterns. C. Nature offers companionship. D. Nature is a source of inspiration. C Most of us learn how to ride a bike during childhood. But as we grow older, many of us stop riding and put those once-beloved bikes away. Years later, when we discover these old things and jump on, it’s as if we never stopped biking. This is surprising because our memories fall short in so many other cases, such as remembering the name of a place or a person we once knew or where we put our keys. So how is it that we can ride a bicycle when we haven’t done so in years? The answer has to do with what kinds of memories we’re making. Neuropsychologist (神经心理学家) Boris Suchan explains that we have two different kinds of long-term memory: declarative and procedural. Within declarative memory are two subtypes: episodic (情景的) and semantic (语义的) memory. Episodic memory is the recall of an event in your life, like going to a concert or falling into a hole. Semantic memory, also known as factual memory, is knowing that World War II ended in 1945. But acquiring a skill is part of procedural memory. Learning how to drive, play a sport, or ride a bike are all activities that are stored in another part of the brain. In theory, it would be possible to suffer a brain injury that could steal your memory of riding a bike but keep the part that knows how to ride the bike. Supposing the brain part which processes non-declarative memory, is unharmed, you’ll be able to ride a bicycle without incident. But why is procedural memory so strong? That’s less clear to science, although one reason, Suchan writes, is that the regions in the brain where movement patterns are formed experience less nerve cell (神经细胞) turnover, helping to keep recall of those actions. That’s why you can always jump on a bike but not necessarily remember that movie. Do you still remember the moment when you first learned how to ride a bike? 8. What does the underlined phrase “fall short” in paragraph I probably mean? A. Fail. B. Match. C. Flash. D. Vary. 9. Which of the following belongs to semantic memory? A. Mastering swimming skills. B. Recalling a birthday party. C. Knowing the capital of France. D. Picking up a foreign language. 10. What can be learned about procedural memory in paragraph 3? A. It is less likely to be forgotten. B. It is easily damaged by brain injuries. C. It is well-understood by scientist. D. It has more frequent nerve cell turnover. 11. What is the purpose of the passage? A. To introduce a new discovery. B. To argue for a particular viewpoint. C. To describe a personal experience. D. To explain reasons for a phenomenon. D Over breakfast this morning, after I enjoyed a short chat with Mia, my new Spanish study buddy (伙伴), I felt that I had mastered more than what I gained from textbook exercises. Mia, however, is an AI that I created to take advantage of a phenomenon called the “protege effect.” According to several studies, we learn more effectively when we teach someone else about the topic we’ve just explored — even if that person doesn’t really exist. Learning through teaching was relatively slow to gain popularity until a group of scientists in the United States began to test its effectiveness. In one of the first experiments, Catherine Chase and colleagues tested on 62 eighth-graders who were tasked with using a computer program to study the biological (生物学的) changes that occur when we get a fever. Over two lessons, they had to read a text and then create a mind-map explaining the different processes and the relationships between them. For half the teens, the mind-map presented the result of self-study. The others were told that their mind-map would help to teach a virtual character. It was not a big difference, but the students in the role of teacher scored significantly better. This increased participation had a big influence: both the amount they got and the depth of their understanding. At the end of the two classes, participants who had played the role of teacher had kept much more of the material, with much stronger performance on test questions. Chase’s team named this the “protege effect” and it has since been studied many times. These later studies suggest that learning by teaching is more powerful than other mnemonic (助记符号) techniques like self-testing. If we know that others are going to learn from us, we feel a sense of responsibility to provide the right information, so we make a greater effort to fill in the gaps in our understanding and correct any mistaken thoughts. Sharing our knowledge then helps to strengthen what we have learned. Why not try to apply the protege effect into practice? 12. Why does the author mention Mia in paragraph 1? A. To stress the importance of AI. B. To share a story of a study buddy. C. To introduce a phenomenon about study. D. To show how to finish textbook exercises. 13. What was different about the two groups in the experiment? A. They differ in learning time. B. They differ in learning tools. C. They differ in learning materials. D. They differ in learning strategies. 14. Why does the “protege effect” help learning? A. Because AI teachers explain things clearly. B. Because mind-maps make memorizing easier. C. Because teaching inspires deeper understanding. D. Because testing yourself is the best way to learn. 15. What can be a suitable title for the passage? A. Learning by Teaching Helps B. Textbook Exercises Benefit More C. Mind-mapping Improves Memory D. AI Promotes Language Learning When traveling, many find themselves in places where the local language is unfamiliar. Once, travelers relied on phrasebooks, but the spread of English has reduced this need. However, most people worldwide still don’t speak English. ____16____ Increasingly, travelers use free translation apps. These apps allow users to speak into their phones and receive spoken translations almost instantly, bridging language gaps effectively. ____17____ Google Translate, a well-known name, often makes mistakes. For instance, translating “my wife is gluten-free (不能吃面筋)” into French or Italian as “my wife is without gluten” misses the intended meaning: However, competitors offer better alternatives. ____18____ It offers no direct translations, but imitates a native speaker’s input. While AI tools make travel easier, some worry they discourage language learning. Douglas Hofstadter, a language expert, argues that relying on machines for communication robs people of meaningful experiences and accomplishments. However, others believe most people don’t need fluency for casual travel. ____19____ As AI translation gains popularity, people may divide into two groups: those eager to learn languages for cultural experience and mental challenge, and those who see it as unnecessary effort. This issue is particularly pressing for English speakers, as many schools in English-speaking countries reduce foreign language programs. ____20____ Direct communication, even if imperfect, brings up deeper connections than relying on technology. A. Yet, these tools aren’t perfect. B. And they prefer the convenience of AI. C. It is a paraphrase rather than a translation. D. Travel has long been a motivator for study. E. Despite this, the social significance of language remains. F. This leads them to rely on gestures, patience, or technology. G. ChatGPT stands out by creating natural-sounding paraphrases. When I was a child, my mom liked to prepare food for dinner every now and then. She found it challenging to express herself and lacked confidence in her abilities. Luckily, her best friend Ada always believed in her and encouraged her to step out of her comfort zone. One day in art class, Mrs. Anderson announced an upcoming citywide art competition. The room buzzed with excitement. Emily’s mind flashed back to her bedroom, where her artwork filled the walls, each piece more attractive than the last. Her heart skipped a beat at the thought of joining, but self-doubt crept (渐渐侵入) in, whispering that her work wouldn’t measure up to the talent surrounding her. Ada, noticing her fear, whispered, “Emily, you should totally enter! Your art is fantastic, and this could be a great opportunity for you to showcase your talent.” Emily closed her eyes, a gentle breeze wafting through the open windows, carrying the distant sounds of laughter and chatter. She reminded herself of the countless hours she had spent honing (磨炼) her skill, the late nights and early mornings for perfecting her technique. With a deep breath, she finally gathered the courage to approach Mrs. Anderson after class, saying “I want to participate in the competition.” Mrs. Anderson smiled warmly. “That’s wonderful, Emily! It’s time you share your talent with the world. I’ll provide you with all the guidance and support you need.” In the following weeks, Emily worked tirelessly on her masterpiece. Whenever she felt tired and wanted to quit, Ada’s and Mrs. Anderson’s encouraging words rang in her ears, overcoming her self-doubt. At last, the day before the competition, she finished her landscape painting — a breathtaking work that grasped the essence of nature’s beauty. On the day of the competition, Emily nervously showed her artwork alongside the other competitors. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $ 山西大学附中 2025~2026学年第一学期高一年级10月模块诊断 英 语 试 题 第 Ⅰ 卷 第一部分 听力 (共两节,满分30分) 第一节(共5小题;每小题1.5分,满分7.5分) 听下面5段对话。 1. A 5. D 6. C 7. 根据第一段中“Walking home from school, I enjoy my day. Each day I stop to listen to music coming from the climbing plant. The sparrows’(麻雀) song, loud and glorious, fills the air. Sparrows fly nervously in and out, tapping on the branches.(放学回家的路上,我很享受我的一天。每天我都会停下来听攀援植物发出的音乐。麻雀的歌声,响亮而光荣,充满了空气。麻雀紧张地飞进飞出,拍打着树枝)”可知,作者在放学回家的路上会停下来听藤蔓植物传来的音乐,看麻雀在树枝间飞进飞出,即观察麻雀。故选A。 根据划线单词所在句子的上文“Sparrows fly nervously in and out, tapping on the branches. This climbing plant is a home for them, sheltering an entire group.(麻雀紧张地飞进飞出,拍打着树枝。这种攀援植物是它们的家园,为整个群体提供庇护)”以及下文“Numbers have decreased by almost 70% in the UK since 1970.(自1970年以来,英国的(麻雀)数量下降了近70%)”可知,麻雀数量大幅减少,由此推断“this scene is no longer ubiquitous”表示麻雀飞来飞去的场景不再普遍。 根据第二段中“In Greek legend, sparrows are sacred and often linked with the goddess Aphrodite, symbolizing true love and spiritual connection.(在希腊传说中,麻雀是神圣的,经常与女神阿佛洛狄忒联系在一起,象征着真爱和精神联系)”可知,作者提到希腊传说中麻雀与爱神阿佛洛狄忒的联系,象征着真爱和精神联系,这是为了强调麻雀的重要性。 根据第四段中“Take the time to observe nature, to lose yourself in its patterns, structures, happenings and rhythms. It is how mathematicians and scientists are trained. Alan Turing studied the patterns in nature: the arrangement of petals on the flower, spots on a leopard and lines on a zebra. He was looking for a mathematical formula (公式) for the development of cells (细胞) in living things. D。 C Most of us learn how to ride a bike during childhood. A 9. C 10. A 11. 根据第一段中的“This is surprising because our memories fall short in so many other cases, such as remembering the name of a place or a person we once knew or where we put our keys.(这很令人惊讶,因为我们的记忆在很多其他情况下会fall short,比如记住一个地方的名字、一个我们曾经认识的人,或者我们把钥匙放在哪里。)” 故选A项。 根据第二段中的“Semantic memory, also known as factual memory, is knowing that World War II ended in 1945.(语义记忆,也被称为事实记忆,是知道第二次世界大战于1945年结束。)” 根据第三段中的“But why is procedural memory so strong? That’s less clear to science, although one reason, Suchan writes, is that the regions in the brain where movement patterns are formed experience less nerve cell (神经细胞) turnover, helping to keep recall of those actions.(但为什么程序性记忆如此强大呢?这对科学来说还不太清楚,尽管苏坎写道,一个原因是大脑中形成运动模式的区域经历的神经细胞更新较少,这有助于保持对这些动作的回忆。)”可知,程序性记忆不太可能被遗忘。故选A项。 通读全文,尤其是第一段中的“So how is it that we can ride a bicycle when we haven’t done so in years?(那么,为什么我们多年不骑自行车,却还能骑呢?)”以及第二段中的“The answer has to do with what kinds of memories we’re making.(答案与我们正在形成的记忆类型有关。)” D Over breakfast this morning, after I enjoyed a short chat with Mia, my new Spanish study buddy (伙伴), I felt that I had mastered more than what I gained from textbook exercises. AI Promotes Language Learning 【答案】12. C 13. D 14. C 15. 根据第一段中“Over breakfast this morning, after I enjoyed a short chat with Mia, my new Spanish study buddy (伙伴), I felt that I had mastered more than what I gained from textbook exercises. Mia, however, is an AI that I created to take advantage of a phenomenon called the “protege effect.” (今天早晨吃早餐时,我和新结识的西班牙语学习伙伴Mia简短交谈后,感觉自己掌握的知识已经超越了课本练习所得。不过,Mia其实是我为了利用“门徒效应”这个现象而创造的人工智能)”可知,作者先提到自己虚构的人工智能学习伙伴Mia,后面自然过渡到对“门徒效应”的讨论。由此可知,作者提到Mia是为了引出关于学习的一个现象。故选C项。 【13题详解】 细节理解题。根据第三段中“For half the teens, the mind-map presented the result of self-study. The others were told that their mind-map would help to teach a virtual character. (半数学生的思维导图作为自主学习成果呈现,而其余学生则被告知其制作的思维导图将用于指导虚拟角色学习)”可知,两组的差异在于学习策略不同。故选D项。 【14题详解】 细节理解题。根据最后一段中“If we know that others are going to learn from us, we feel a sense of responsibility to provide the right information, so we make a greater effort to fill in the gaps in our understanding and correct any mistaken thoughts. (当我们意识到他人将受教于己时,会产生确保信息准确的责任感,从而更主动地填补认知空白并修正错误观点)”可知,“门徒效应”有助于学习。是因为教学行为激发了更深层次的理解。故选C项。 【15题详解】 主旨大意题。通读全文,尤其是第一段中“According to several studies, we learn more effectively when we teach someone else about the topic we’ve just explored — even if that person doesn’t really exist. (多项研究表明,当我们向他人讲解刚学过的知识时——即便对方并非真实存在——学习效果会显著提升)”可知,文章围绕“通过教学促进学习”,即“门徒效应”展开,用科学实验论证了其合理性,表明教学行为能激发更深的理解。因此,A项“以教促学”概括了这一现象,最适合作为文章标题。故选A项。 When traveling, many find themselves in places where the local language is unfamiliar. F 17. A 18. G 19. B 20. 【16题详解】 前文“When traveling, many find themselves in places where the local language is unfamiliar. Once, travelers relied on phrasebooks, but the spread of English has reduced this need. However, most people worldwide still don’t speak English.(旅行时,许多人发现自己在当地语言不熟悉的地方。曾经,旅行者依赖于常用语手册,但英语的传播减少了这种需求。然而,世界上大多数人仍然不会说英语)”提到“旅行时很多人会身处不熟悉当地语言的地方,虽然英语的传播减少了对常用语手册的依赖,但世界上大多数人仍不会说英语”。选项F“This leads them to rely on gestures, patience, or technology.(这导致他们依靠手势、耐心或技术)”中“this”指代前文人们身处陌生语言环境且多数人不会英语的情况,自然地引出后文人们使用免费翻译应用程序这一技术手段来解决问题。故选F。 【17题详解】 前文“Increasingly, travelers use free translation apps. These apps allow users to speak into their phones and receive spoken translations almost instantly, bridging language gaps effectively.(越来越多的旅行者使用免费的翻译软件。 故选A。 G“ChatGPT stands out by creating natural - sounding paraphrases.(ChatGPT通过生成听起来自然的意译脱颖而出)”符合语境。“意译”与后文“模仿母语者输入”相呼应,且“脱颖而出”表明它是谷歌翻译竞争对手中的优秀代表。故选G。 【19题详解】 前文“While AI tools make travel easier, some worry they discourage language learning. Douglas Hofstadter, a language expert, argues that relying on machines for communication robs people of meaningful experiences and accomplishments. However, others believe most people don’t need fluency for casual travel.(虽然人工智能工具让旅行变得更容易,但一些人担心它们会阻碍语言学习。语言专家Douglas Hofstadter认为,依赖机器进行交流剥夺了人们有意义的经历和成就。然而,另一些人认为,大多数人在休闲旅行时不需要流利的英语)”提到“一些人担心人工智能工具会阻碍语言学习,而另一些人认为大多数人在休闲旅行中不需要流利的语言能力”。选项B“And they prefer the convenience of AI.(而且他们更喜欢人工智能的便利)”中“他们”指代前文认为旅行中不需要流利语言能力的人,进一步说明了这些人的态度,即更倾向于使用人工智能翻译工具的便利。故选B。 【20题详解】 前文“This issue is particularly pressing for English speakers, as many schools in English-speaking countries reduce foreign language programs.(这个问题对说英语的人来说尤其紧迫,因为许多英语国家的学校减少了外语课程)”提到“许多英语国家的学校减少了外语课程”,下文“Direct communication, even if imperfect, brings up deeper connections than relying on technology.(直接交流,即使不完美,也比依赖技术带来更深层次的联系)”强调“直接交流,即使不完美,也比依赖技术能带来更深入的联系”。 E“Despite this, the social significance of language remains.(尽管如此,语言的社会意义仍然存在)”符合语境。 When I was a child, my mom liked to prepare food for dinner every now and then.
