On August 7, 2025, OpenAI introduced GPT-5, a major update for ChatGPT that brings faster responses (反应), more accurate (准确的) answers, and better problem-solving skills than older versions. This advancement has made the competition in the AI field even stronger, but it has also sparked discussions about how AI might affect people’s mental well-being and job opportunities in the future.
Available to all ChatGPT users at no cost, GPT-5 shows improvements in writing, programming, and answering health questions. Most importantly, it makes 45% fewer factual mistakes than GPT-4 and clearly tells users when it doesn’t know something, instead of making up answers.
OpenAI’s leader Sam Altman praised GPT-5 as a big step toward AI that thinks like humans. He explained, “While GPT-4 was like talking to a college student, GPT-5 feels like getting advice from a top expert in many fields. “With 700 million people using it every week, OpenAI stays ahead despite new competitors.
One exciting new feature is “prompt-based programming,” which lets users create working software just by giving simple instructions. During a test, GPT-5 built a website with fun games to help people learn French in only a few minutes, proving how useful it could be for programmers.
However, concerns (关注) remain about jobs being replaced by AI. Some tech leaders say AI now handles (处理) more than 40% of basic coding work. Others worry about people relying (依赖) too much on AI, sharing a story where a man’s constant use of AI hurt his family relationships.
As GPT-5 becomes more common in schools and offices, it shows both the amazing possibilities and the social challenges that come with advanced AI technology.
16.What is one key improvement of GPT-5?
A.It can speak 10 new languages. B.It has 45% fewer factual errors.
C.It is free for only premium users. D.It runs on solar power.
17.What is the author’s opinion on how GPT-5 influences society?
A.Entirely positive, with no drawbacks.
B.Favorably only for educational use.
C.As a threat to human creativity.
D.Two-sided, highlighting both benefits and challenges.
18.This passage can be divided into several parts. Which one is the most reasonable (合理的) ?
A.①/②③/④⑤/⑥ B.①②/③④/⑤/⑥ C.①/②/③④/⑤⑥ D.①②③/④⑤/⑥
19.Which of the following statements is not right?
A.Sam Altman thinks GPT-5 is as good as a top expert.

An encyclopaedia is a useful special reference book, or a set of books. It contains valuable information on many different subjects, or it can focus deeply on one subject. For over 2,000 years, encyclopaedias have summarized human knowledge to help people learn.
The word “encyclopaedia” comes from ancient Greek words meaning “all-round education”. At first, it described a complete system of learning. A German writer, Paul Scalich, was the first to use “encyclopaedia” as the actual title for a book in 1559. Before that, these books often had creative names or were simply called “dictionaries”. Denis Diderot later made “encyclopaedia” more popular with his well-known French “Encyclopédie”.
The meaning of “encyclopaedia” has changed greatly. Today, people usually think of a large set of books. These books often include maps, pictures, and an index to help find information. They cover many various topics, including biographies of important people, both in the past and at present. Many experts write these articles, and skilled editors carefully put them together.
However, encyclopaedias weren’t always exactly like this. In the past, some were just a single book written by one person, while others were indeed huge sets. They didn’t always have illustrations or information about living people. Arranging topics alphabetically or using languages other than Latin took many years to become very common.
Encyclopaedias can cover all knowledge or focus on specific broad areas, like history or science. They are important because they record what people knew at different specific times. Even old encyclopaedias are valuable because they contain writings from many great thinkers and leaders, showing how our understanding of the world has greatly grown.
21.What is the main purpose of an encyclopaedia?
A.To replace formal education systems. B.To advertise new scientific discoveries.
C.To entertain readers with creative stories. D.To summarize human knowledge for learning.
22.How did early encyclopaedias differ from modern ones?
A.They focused only on science. B.They were always written in Latin.
C.They often didn’t have illustrations. D.They never covered multiple subjects.
23.What does the underlined word “index” in Paragraph 3 probably mean in Chinese?
A.索引 B.封皮 C.脚注 D.标题
24.Which of the following best shows the structure of the passage?
(①Modern features ②Definition ③Value ④Past features ⑤History)
A.②→⑤→①→④→③ B.⑤→②→④→①→③
C.②→①→⑤→③→④ D.①→⑤→②→④→③
25.Where is the passage probably taken from?
A.A fiction novel about Greek scholars. B.A museum guidebook about ancient books.
C.A newspaper article on modern technology. D.An educational magazine on knowledge tools.

Do you like the number 13? 26 In the past, a lot of tall buildings didn’t have the 13th floor. 27 For example, the number “4” is said to be unlucky because it sounds like the Chinese word for “death”. But that’s just one example about numbers in China.
When I first came here, I was surprised to see that many websites had numbers in their names instead of letters. I soon found that this is actually convenient, as Chinese characters (汉字) cannot be used for website addresses. 28
In pinyin, the telecom company China Unicom is called Zhongguo Liantong. If the company used their pinyin name for their website address, it would be quite long. 29
In addition, the pronunciations of some numbers sound similar to other words in Chinese. This is wordplay (双关语). For example, the numbers “520” in Chinese sound similar to the pronunciation of the Chinese phrase “I love you”. 30
A.They can only use numbers or letters instead.
B.There are also superstitions (迷信) about some numbers in China.
C.In western countries, some people think the number 13 brings bad luck.
D.It is interesting to see how Chinese people use numbers in different ways.

以下是一篇短文,请阅读全文,并从下列六个句子中选择五个还原到原文中,使原文意思完整、连贯。
E.So instead, they used the hotline number—10010.com. This is easier to type and remember.
F.Many couples choose to get married on May 20th for this reason.
