Following the crowd may not always be in a person’s best interest. However, a new study shows that teens who go along with their friends may become healthier as adults. Scientists have known that close friendships help improve health. People who do their own thing may experience unpleasant feelings and get sick. Those findings inspired Joseph Allen, a scientist, to look at teen behavior. Allen’s group noted that experiences during teen years might influence adult health.
Scientists interviewed 171 teens every year for five years starting at the age of 13. These teens became the focal (中心的) teens in the study. The teens were asked about both positive and negative aspects of friendship. The scientists also spoke to their closest friends. They asked the friends how likely the focal person was to follow the crowd, go along with the friends or keep on doing his or her own thing.
The same 171 people were interviewed again as adults, at ages 25, 26 and 27. This time, the questions surveyed each person’s overall health. The scientists found a correlation between a teen’s behavior and adult health. Firstly, teens who had close friends grew up to be the healthier adults. Secondly, teens who held back their feelings were more likely to be sick as adults than those who shared feelings with a close friend. What’s more, the study found that teens who went along with what their friends wanted, instead of being independent, also were healthier in their twenties.
The correlation held up (依然成立) even after the scientists included other possible influences on health, such as weight, family income and drug use. The study showed that such other things did not explain adult health as well as teen friendships did. For those who wonder whether they should follow the crowd or not, now they have a legitimate (合理的) reason to say yes.
24.Scientists asked the focal teens ________.
A.if they experienced unpleasant feelings
B.if they always agreed with their friends
C.about the things they kept on doing on their own
D.about the positive and negative aspects of friendship
25.What can we learn from the study?
A.Being independent is better than working with friends.
B.Many things can explain health as well as teen friendships.
C.Expressing feelings to a close friend can be good for you.
D.Teenagers shouldn’t follow the crowd and say yes to others.
26.What is the best title for the passage?
A.Teens and Growth
B.Say Yes to Teens

In the US,most people take a shower once a day in the morning. The showerhead is usually fixed (固定) on the wall and cannot be moved. The bather simply stands under the water, gets wet, of course you need to scrubs (擦洗) with a soap,or you can’t make yourself clean enough and often a washcloth is needed, and then washes off the soap.
Remember that when you take a shower or bath in the US,you should be careful to keep the water inside the bathtub (浴缸). Unlike bathrooms in many countries, there is no drain (下水道) in the floor. If water gets on the floor, you must clean it up with a towel or a mop (拖把). It can also make the floor break more easily. So be careful.

1.—You mustn’t go there on your own, because you _________ get lost in the mountains.
—OK. I will wait _________ you have time.
A.might; unless B.must; unless C.might; until D.must; until
根据“You mustn’t go there on your own, because you…get lost in the mountains.”可知,此处表示没有把握的推测,即:可能会在山里迷路,所以第一空使用might;根据“I will wait…you have time.”
2.—What a pity! I haven’t got a new mobile phone. They have been sold out.
—This shows how people are _________ by advertisements.
A.impressed B.influenced C.improved D.imagined
根据“This shows how people are...by advertisements.”
3.— Have you seen the TV play My Ugly Mother?
—Yes, it s well worth _________. It’s _________ exciting that I’ve seen it twice.
A.being seen; such B.being seen; so C.seeing; so D.seeing; such
be worth doing sth.
4.The music by Tan Dun sounds .
A.was written; wonderful B.written; wonderfully
C.was written; wonderfully D.written;wonderful

—Yes. A large number of tourists ________ so far because of the new look of our city.
A.is; have come B.is; has come C.are; has come D.are; have come
【答案】A
the number of“……的数量”,修饰主语时,其后be动词用is;a large number of“大量,许多”,修饰名词复数作主语时,其后用助动词have。故选A。
6.We all know the Anti-Japanese War _________ in 1937, and _________ for eight years.
A.was broken out; was lasted B.was broken out; lasted
C.broke out; was lasted D.broke out; lasted
7.—Tom, do you know if Sam ________ to my party next week?
—I think he will come if he ________.
A.comes; will invite B.will come; will be invited
C.comes; invites D.will come; is invited
根据“do you know if Sam ... to my party next week”可知,此句是if引导的宾语从句,由时间状语“next week”可知,时态用一般将来时will do;根据“he will come if he”可知,此处是if引导的条件状语从句,根据“主将从现”原则,从句用一般现在时,主语he是第三人称单数,与invite是被动关系,故用一般现在时的被动语态is done。故选D。

A.What a; / B.What; a C.How; a D.What; /

I couldn’t agree more我完全同意;That’s not the case情况不是这样的;That’s for sure那是肯定的;I’ve got it. 根据“All of my online friends are so kind to me”以及“Few of them would become your real friends”可知,不同意对方的观点,故选B。
10.—Could you tell me _________?
—Go along the road. Take the fourth turning on the left.
A.how could I get to the library
B.which is the way to the library
C.How long it takes to get to the library
D.how many books I can borrow in the library
根据“Go along the road. Take the fourth turning on the left.”可知,在问路怎么走,排除CD;根据“Can you tell me…”

C.Friendship and Health
D.Get along with Friends
