C A 100-year-old shoe store in Iowa, America, is proving that there is a way to run a business in a small town even if you don’t use the Internet. Weaver’s Leather Store has been open since 1925 and is still going strong. Their secret is just doing a good job for their customers. They always take time to listen to each customer’s needs and make sure they leave with the perfect fit. “We have shoes in every state,” Tim Weaver said. He is the third generation of Weavers who have made the shoe store their life's dream. “We never had a website — just word of mouth and people coming in,” said Tim. The way the store runs has changed little from how Tim’s father, LeRoy Weaver, ran it since he took over the business from his own father. The machines the family uses are from many years ago. One of them was probably built in the 1930s. Another thing that has given them an advantage is the stacked (堆叠的) storage of shoes. They probably have about 13,000 pairs of shoes. A salesman once told Tim, “You can never sell an empty shelf.” Therefore, they always make sure to keep the shelves full. The future of the store looks bright as the next generation prepares to step in. Colin Weaver, 26, and his brother Tanner, 29, plan to someday take over the store. Colin shared his journey, saying that while he was considering his choices during college, he finally realized, “Nothing else could bring me the same joy and purpose that the store does.” The family knows just how lucky they have been. In an age where technology and the Internet can make or break a company this small shop has left a big footprint (足迹) with not so much as an online ad. “Not too many people can say that. It’s an honor,” Tim said. “That’s what we’re here for — to keep the business going through generations.” 8. What is the key to Weaver’s Leather Store’s success? A. Good online marketing and promotion. B. A well-known salesman. C. Excellent customer service. D. A high-tech production line. 9. What is special about the store? A. It sticks to updating machines. B. It depends on a time-tested business model. C. It offers skill development programs. D. It often changes its website design. 10. What does Colin’s realization during college mainly suggest? A. His pressure from family expectations. B. His enjoyment of college life. C. His love for the family business. D. His interest in journey. 11. What message does the author want to express through the story? A. Technology development matters a lot to business success. B. Traditional business model can survive in the digital age. C. Family members should deepen communication. D. The younger generation prefers challenging jobs. D Sugar-free cookies, sugar-free candy, and diet soda—are these better for you? After sugar became a no-no in the nutrition and wellness world, sugar-free food and drinks acted as a replacement for once beloved sweet drinks and snacks. Being claimed to be ZERO sugar means the food and drinks are healthier, better for diabetics, and help you slim down ... Right? Wrong. Sugar-free products aren’t better for you. In fact, they are worse. For most sugar-free products, it means that artificial sweeteners (甜味剂) are used instead of real sugar. The problem is that these sweeteners do not come from natural soures and they can do you more harm than good. Let’s get into what these artificial sweeteners actually are. Sugar-free sugar sounds wrong because there is no such thing as sugar-free sugar. Some of these sugar-free alternatives even contain sugar and the ones that have chemicals your body often does not know how to process. Most artificial sweeteners are a lot sweeter than sugar so only a small quantity of them are needed. That’s why they can market sugar-free alternatives as “low-calorie” or “no-calorie’. It also means that you get no nutritional value from consuming them, which is why so many sugar-free replacements are classified as “non-nutritive”. These artificial sweeteners tend to hide under some names. Actually, they are 200-600 times sweeter than sugar. When you eat sweet stuff, your body continues to desire it and, even though your body cannot metabolize (代谢) these sugar-free alternatives, your brain does not know the difference. In turn sugar-free alternatives relate to weight gain and Type-2 diabetes. Besides, artificial sweeteners also damage your gut’s ability to break down sugar which impacts everything you eat. In other words, your body doesn’t know how to handle artificial sweeteners because they have nothing real to process. Here is a good rule of thumb: stay away from artificial sweeteners and look for non-sugar, natural sweeteners like stevia (甜叶菊) or date sugar. In the war against artificial sweeteners and real sugar, both lose. Satisfy your sweet tooth with natural sugar that comes from fruits and stay away from products claimed to be sugar-free. 12. What do most sugar-free products have in common? A. They don’t taste sweet. B. They are free of calories. C. They are rich in nutrition. D. They have artificial sweeteners. 13. What can be inferred about artificial sweeteners? A. They are as sweet as sugar. B. They pose a big risk to health. C. They can be metabolized easily D. They have long been added to food. 14. What does the author advise us to do? A. To keep a balanced diet. B. To stay away from sugary products. C. To choose fewer artificial ingredients. D. To take in sugar from natural sources 15. Which of the following can be the best title for the text? A. Why are sugar-free products bad for your health? B How will sugar-free products affect your body? C. What can be called sugar-free products? D. Why are sugar-free products popular? 第二节 (共5小题;每小题2. 5分,满分12. 5分) 根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。 Learn to Be Responsible How does it feel when you admit that you have done something wrong? Since I was an Indian girl, nobody wanted to talk to me. Every spare minute was spent alone, and no classmates would group with me for projects. Feeling lonely and sad, I was in desperate need of close friends. A girl named Fatin, who was cute, clever and talented, appealed to me deeply. However, she seemed to be avoiding me as well. Being only six years old, I didn’t understand why people treated me like that, I opened up to my mother about all this, almost crying my eyes out. Mom smiled, comforting me until I calmed down. She looked into my eyes and encouraged me, “Honey, don’t worry. They’re just not familiar with you. Try to bring out the best in you. They’ll befriend (做朋友) you as long as they see your advantages.” At that time, I didn’t believe her, but Mom was right. One day, my teacher, Miss Barbara, announced that there was to be a speech competition. I really enjoyed joining in speech competitions. Actually, I was quite good at them. The only problem was that the whole school would be watching me and I knew none of my audience. However, I was determined to do it. I gathered all my courage, went up to the teacher and said, “Miss Barbara, I want to join in the speech competition.” She stared at me, but then I saw a gentle smile on her face. She handed me an application form. The next day, I arrived at school early to submit (提交)my form to the teacher. Miss Barbara said encouragingly to me, “For a new student, you have lots of courage. Do your best, Diya!” Rarely did Miss Barbara praise anyone. Her words lifted up my spirits that day. Until the competition day, I practised my speech whenever possible. I even designed the necessary hand gestures and did repeated practice in front of a mirror. 注意:1.续写词数应为150左右; 2.请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。 Then came the big day. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ As I went off the stage with my award, I heard Fatin call my name. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $ 乐平三中2025-2026学年高一上学期第一次月考 注意事项: 1. 1. Bryant, a barrier breaker who stood firm in her determination to be a respected jazz trumpet player despite the open sexism (性别歧视) that shadowed her, died on August 25, 2019, in Los Angeles, when she was 92. Life as a jazz trumpeter was an uphill battle, said her son Darrin. “It was a man’s world, and that made it hard for her. But that only fueled her fire, and made her more resolved.” Bryant played the trumpet with such passion and she became a mainstay in the growing jazz scene in the 1940s. Dizzy Gillespie once told Times jazz critic Leonard Feather that Bryant was the most underrated (低估) trumpet player in L. A. But by 1992, she was living on Social Security, staying at a son’s Long Beach, in California, apartment, and two of her trumpets were in the pawnshop (典当铺). “A lot of clubs have closed.” she told the Times. “And how many female trumpet players do you see working?” Bryant and her brothers were raised by their father, a patient man who encouraged his children to think big. She wanted to be in the high school marching band, but Charles Bryant warned his daughter she’d likely face resistance. “But anything you want to do, I’m behind you,” she recalled. It was her father who encouraged her to do whatever she wanted to do that made her stronger and stronger. 4. What does the underlined word “resolved” in paragraph 1 probably mean? A. Adventurous. B. Unique. C. Determined. D. Anxious. 5. Why is “Social Security” mentioned in paragraph 3? A. To prove Bryant’s struggle through life. B. To show Bryant’s relation with her son. C. The poor family background. C. The discouragement from family. D. The open sexism from society. 7. What played an important role for Bryant to stick to her dream? A. Her son’s support. B. Her brothers’ company. C. Her father’s encouragement. D. Her strict family education. 【答案】4. C 5. A 6. D 7. C 【解析】 【导语】这是一篇记叙文。文章介绍了小号乐手Bryant成名的过程很缓慢,得到的赞誉远不及她应得到的那么多,但是她越过人生的障碍,最终获得了成功。 【4题详解】 词句猜测题。根据第一段中“Bryant, a barrier breaker who stood firm in her determination to be a respected jazz trumpet player despite the open sexism (性别歧视) that shadowed her (Bryant虽然一辈子都被公然的性别歧视所困扰,但她突破屏障,下定决心要成为一名备受尊敬的爵士小号手)”可知,Bryant虽然她一辈子都被公然的性别歧视所困扰,但她决心成为一名受尊敬的爵士小号手。结合划线词前“It was a man’s world, and that made it hard for her. But that only fueled her fire (这是一个男人的世界,这让她很难过。但这只会点燃她的热情)”可知,性别歧视并未能阻挡Bryant成为一名爵士小号手,反而使她更加下定决心成为一名爵士小号手,所以可以推断出画线单词“resolved”意思是“下定决心的”,与“determined”意思一致。故选C项。 【5题详解】 推理判断题。根据第三段中的“But by 1992, she was living on Social Security, staying at a son’s Long Beach, in California, apartment, and two of her trumpets were in the pawnshop (典当铺). (到了1992年,她却只能靠社会保险金生活,住在儿子位于加州长滩的公寓,两把小号都被送进了典当铺。)”可推知,作者提及“社会保险金”是为了证实她当时经济状况的窘迫,从侧面反应她成名过程中的奋斗与艰辛。故选A项。 【6题详解】 推理判断题。根据第一段中的“Bryant, a barrier breaker who stood firm in her determination to be a respected jazz trumpet player despite the open sexism (性别歧视) that shadowed her, died on August 25, 2019, in Los Angeles, when she was 92. Life as a jazz trumpeter was an uphill battle, said her son Darrin. “It was a man’s world, and that made it hard for her. But that only fueled her fire, and made her more resolved. 根据最后一段中的“It was her father who encouraged her to do whatever she wanted to do that made her stronger and stronger. (正是她的父亲鼓励她去做任何她想做的事情,这使她变得越来越强大。)”可知,父亲的鼓励是她坚持自己的梦想的关键,起到重要作用。故选C项。 C A 100-year-old shoe store in Iowa, America, is proving that there is a way to run a business in a small town even if you don’t use the Internet. In an age where technology and the Internet can make or break a company, this small shop has left a big footprint (足迹) with not so much as an online ad. C. B. How will sugar-free products affect your body? C. What can be called sugar-free products? D. Why are sugar-free products popular? 【答案】12. D 13. B 14. D 15. A 【解析】 【导语】这是一篇说明文。如今市场上充斥着各种“无糖食品”和“无糖饮料”,但实际上存在更大健康隐患。文章说明了人造甜味剂的危害以及建议远离人工甜味剂,寻找无糖的天然甜味剂, 【12题详解】 细节理解题。根据第一段中“For most sugar-free products, it means that artificial sweeteners (甜味剂) are used instead of real sugar.(对于大多数无糖产品来说,这意味着使用人工甜味剂来代替真正的糖)”可知,“无糖产品”通常含有人工甜味剂。故选D。 【13题详解】 推理判断题。根据倒数第二段中“In turn sugai-free alternatives relate to weight gain and Type-2 diabetes. Besides, artificial sweeteners also damage your gut’s ability to break down sugar which impacts everything you eat. (反过来,无糖替代品与体重增加和2型糖尿病有关。此外,人造甜味剂还会损害肠道分解糖的能力,这会影响你吃的所有东西)”可知,这些所谓的“无糖产品”中含有的人工甜味剂会导致肥胖和糖尿病,还会损害肠道分解糖的能力,因此是更大的健康隐患。故选B。 【14题详解】 细节理解题。根据最后一段中“Here is a good rule of thumb: stay away from artificial sweeteners and look for non-sugar, natural sweeteners like stevia (甜叶菊) or date sugar.(这里有一个很好的经验法则:远离人工甜味剂,寻找无糖的天然甜味剂,如甜菊糖或枣糖)”可知,作者建议摄取自然的糖分——比如来自水果的糖。故选D。 【15题详解】 主旨大意题。根据第一段“Sugar-free products aren’t better for you. In fact, they are worse. For most sugar-free products, it means that artificial sweeteners (甜味剂) are used instead of real sugar. The problem is that these sweeteners do not come from natural sourees and they can do you more harm than good.(无糖产品并不对你更好。事实上,他们更糟糕。对于大多数无糖产品来说,这意味着使用人工甜味剂来代替真正的糖。问题是这些甜味剂不是来自天然来源,它们对你的危害大于好处)”结合下文具体介绍无糖产品实际更甜,并且对身体对糖的代谢有影响可知,A选项“为什么无糖产品对你的健康有害?”最符合文章标题。故选A。 第二节 (共5小题;每小题2. 5分,满分12. 5分) 根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。 Learn to Be Responsible How does it feel when you admit that you have done something wrong? Taking responsibility for your actions not only feels good, it teaches you to trust yourself and strengthens friendships. What does being responsible mean? It can be easy to blame(责怪) others or make excuses for mistakes, but being responsible means accepting that you are wrong. ___16___ You could say the bus was late, but being responsible means apologizing and accepting that it was your responsibility to get there on time. However, being responsible doesn’t mean taking the blame for things you can’t change. You’re only responsible for things that you can control. ___17___ According to research, understanding you have control over your own actions makes you feel more positive and hopeful about the future. ___18___ For example, I remember a time I got the sofa dirty. I was going to lie about it because if my mum saw it, she would get angry. But after I told her the truth, I wasn’t in as much trouble as I thought. Instead, mom praised me for my honesty. Being responsible helps you to gain people’s trust. How can you be responsible? ___19___ One way of doing this is by drawing a circle of control: what is in this circle of control and what is out of this circle. As well as being responsible for what you can change, try accepting the things you can’t. We can’t always control what happens to us. ___20___ We can still choose our attitude. And most of the time, attitude decides if you are truly a responsible person. A. What makes you responsible? B. How is being responsible good for you? C. But we can control how we respond to it. D. Start by understanding what is in and out of your control. E. Taking responsibility can also make others trust you more. F. Imagine agreeing to meet a friend and then turning up late. G. This can increase your happiness and help you achieve more. 【答案】16. F 17. B 18. E 19. D 20. The next day I arrived at school early to submit (提交)my form to the teacher. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】 Then came the big day. When my name was called, I went up to the stage confidently and started presenting my speech with full enthusiasm. As I had expected, it was a real hit. The moment my speech ended, I was greeted with a standing ovation from the audience. Finally, I was declared the winner of the first prize and awarded the title of Best Speaker. As I went off the stage with my award, I heard Fatin call my name. Turning around, the girl I admired was waving to me. She approached me and said cheerfully, “Hey, Sneha! You gave us such an amazing speech. Never had I expected you to be so great! Would you like to be friends with me?” “Sure, Fatin.” I happily accepted her friendship invitation without any hesitation. Since then, the two of us have supported and inspired each other through thick and thin. So take up your courage and show your best to the world. Some day you can achieve what you initially dreamt of. 词汇激活 行为类 ①走上前:go up to/come over to ②宣布:declare/ announce ③走近:approach/ get close to 情绪类 ①开心地:happily/cheerfully ②自信地:confidently/in confidence 【点睛】[高分句型1]When my name was called, I went up to the stage confidently and started presenting my speech with full enthusiasm.
