Finley-Jay is only eight years old, yet his determination to make a difference shines bright. His sights are already set on helping others in his community with his touching acts of kindness. Inspired by an Internet-based group calling itself “Hit the Ambulance Gamers” which highlights random acts of kindness, or “hits”, he creates and hands out goody bags to ambulance crews in the West Midlands, the UK, to bring joy to the hard-working paramedics Much more than just treats, they are a reminder that compassion can have a deep impact on others. The youngster fills his goody bags with tea, coffee, chocolates, biscuits, and pens, all gifted to him by friends and family. “I am so proud of him — he is such a kind little boy,” says his mom, Laura Stubbs. “Whenever we have some spare time, you can find Finley at the hospital handing out little bags that he’s made to every ambulance that arrives. He’s so popular that Shrewsbury ambulance crews all know him now.” The hospital’s nursing director, Hayley Flavell, also shows her admiration, “What a lovely and kind gesture by Finley — his goody bags will make all the difference to the ambulance crews that arrive at our hospital. Well done, Finley!” Perhaps this kind-hearted kid’s selfless actions are more worth praising because he lives with ADHD. It is a common mental disorder in children. Its symptoms include difficulty in focusing, inappropriate hyperactivity (多动) and a tendency to act impulsively. Finley’s love for ambulances has led to him setting up his own online group titled “Finlay-Jay’s Ambulance Bags Journey”. In it, he continues to inspire others to support his mission and spread kindness in their own communities. Finley has taken the concept of random acts of kindness to new heights. The “Hit the Ambulance Gamers” group encourages members to share gestures such as waves with ambulance crews, but this caring boy is praised for going above and beyond with his goody bags. 25. What inspired Finley to do good deeds? A. An online community. B. His personal experience. C. The importance of rescue work. D. His mother’s encouragement. 26. Where do Finley’s goods to ambulance crews come from? A. They are collected through the Internet. B. They are donated by a charity. C. They are given by his familiar people. D. They are bought by Finley himself. 27. What can be learned about Finley? A. He is a child with exceptional talents. B. He faces personal difficulties yet spreads kindness to others. C. He has received national recognition for his achievements. D. He has developed a unique medical treatment for ADHD. 28. What can be known from the last paragraph? A. Finley became an active leader of “Hit the Ambulance Gamers”. B. Finley received financial support from others to carry out his good deeds. C. Finley’s goody-bag-giving activity was recognized by “Hit the Ambulance Gamers”. D. Finley furthered the kindness concept of “Hit the Ambulance Gamers”. More time spent sitting, reclining or lying down during the day may increase the risk of cardiovascular (心血管的) disease (CVD) and death, according to a study in the Journal of the American College of Cardiology. More than roughly 10-and-a-half hours of sedentary (久坐的) behavior per day was significantly linked with future heart failure (HF) and CVD death, even among people meeting recommended levels of exercise. “Our findings support cutting back on sedentary time to reduce cardiovascular risk, with 10.5 hours a day marking a potentially key threshold tied to higher heart failure and cardiovascular mortality,” said Shaan Khurshid, MD, MPH, a cardiologist at the Massachusetts General Hospital. “Too much sitting or lying down can be harmful for heart health, even for those who are active.” This study examined the amount of sedentary time at which CVD risk is greatest and explored how sedentary behavior and physical activity together impact the chances of atrial fibrillation (心房颤动) (AF), HF, myocardial infarction (心肌梗死) (MI) and CVD death. Among the 89,530 study participants of the UK Biobank, participants submitted data from a wrist-worn triaxial accelerometer that captured movement over seven days. The average sedentary time per day was 9.4 hours. After an average follow-up of eight years, 3,638 individuals developed incident AF; 1,854 developed incident HF; 1,610 developed indecent MI; 846 died of CVD causes. For study participants who met the recommended 150 minutes of moderate-to-vigorous physical activity or more, the effects of sedentary behavior on AF and MI risks were substantially reduced, but effects on higher risk of HF and CVD mortality remained prominent. “This study adds to the growing evidence of a strong link between sedentary behavior and cardiovascular health,” said Khurshid. “The findings strongly suggest that we need to get people moving to promote better health. Future guidelines and public health efforts should stress the importance of cutting down on sedentary time. Avoiding more than 10.6 hours per day may be a realistic minimal target for better heart health.” 29. What risk does the study mention for those who sit more? A. Obesity. B. Recognition loss. C. Heart problems. D. Physical disability. 30. What does the underlined word “threshold” mean in paragraph 2? A. Dimension. B. Limitation. C. Reputation. D. Discipline. 31. What does Khurshid think of the current guidelines? A. They need improving. B. They are of no meaning. C. They stress physical activity. D. They cut down sedentary time. 32. What can be a suitable title for the text? A. Active Lifestyles Protect Against Sedentary Risks B. Sedentary Behaviors Under 10.5 Hours Are Safe for Heart C. Exercise Alone Fails to Fight Against Heart Disease Risks D. Sedentary Lifestyles Threaten Heart Health Despite Exercise Many people often do nice things for others. Well, here’s something interesting about “doing good”. Research suggests that when we make acts of kindness a habit, it’s also good for both our mental and physical health, whether it's volunteering at a local organization, or taking soup to a sick neighbor, says Tara Gruenewald, a social and health psychologist. Most of the evidence comes from observational studies of people who volunteer regularly. But there is also experimental evidence. Perhaps the most striking one comes from the Baltimore Experience Corps study, where adults aged 60 and older were randomly assigned to either volunteer at schools or be put on a waiting list. The volunteers spent at least 15 hours a week helping kids with their studies. After two years, the researchers found that the volunteers had measurable changes. “They didn’t experience declines in memory and cognitive (认知的) function like we saw in our control participants. There was even an increase in brain volume in areas of the brain that support cognitive processes,” says Gruenewald. “Volunteers also became more physically active, which is important for maintaining both cognitive and physical health as folks age,” she explains. It is likely that multiple processes are at play. For example, stress causes a series of reactions in your body that can drive up blood pressure and other problems, ultimately leading to other poor health outcomes. But volunteering can draw your attention away from the problems that you might be having. Also when you help others, it also makes you less lonely, which is also crucial for your physical health. Julia Boehm, an associate professor of psychology at Chapman University, says that most of the research in this field has looked at middle-aged and older adults. There’s less evidence on the health benefits of helping behaviors when it comes to younger people. Given the findings so far, Boehm says she’d like to see health officials make it a public health priority to study the benefits of volunteering and other acts of kindness to minors. 33. Why was Baltimore Experience Corps study different from other studies in this field? A. It observed people often volunteering. B. It involved a large number of kids. C. It focused on short-term volunteering. D. It was based on experimental evidence. 34. Which aspect of the volunteers had obvious changes by the end of this study? A. Brain function. B. Work efficiency. C. Knowledge reserve. D. Cognitive style. 35. What does paragraph 4 mainly talk about? A. How volunteering helps with health. B. Why volunteering strengthens relationships. C Which volunteer work is suitable for the old. D. What reactions volunteering causes in the body. 36. What does Julia Boehm suggest? A. Providing additional experimental data. B. Expanding the size of the research subjects. C. Performing more experiments on the elderly. D. Making volunteer activities a public priority. Effective communication is a fundamental skill that plays a crucial role in both personal and professional life. It involves not just the exchange of information, but also the ability to understand and be understood by others. Here are four essential tips to enhance your communication skills. First and foremost, active listening is the cornerstone of effective communication. It means fully concentrating on what the other person is saying, rather than just passively hearing the message. ___37___ Avoid interrupting and give the speaker time to express their thoughts completely before responding. This not only shows respect but also ensures that you accurately understand the message. ___38___ When delivering a message, make sure it is straightforward and direct. Try not to use complicated language that could confuse the listener. Organize your thoughts before you speak, and if needed, divide your message into smaller, more manageable parts. ___39___ Keeping your message concise also helps maintain the listener’s attention and enhances the effectiveness of your communication. Non- verbal communication, such as body language, facial expressions, and gestures, plays a significant role in how your message is received. Be mindful of your non-verbal clues, as they can either enhance or contradict what you are saying. For instance, maintaining an open posture and smiling can make you appear more approachable and trustworthy. ___40___ Empathy (同理心) is another critical component of effective communication. ___41___ This not only helps in building relationships but also makes the other person feel valued and respected. Phrases like “I understand how you feel” or “That sounds challenging” can go a long way in showing empathy. Empathy fosters (培养) a deeper connect ion and can make your interactions more meaningful and productive. A. Being clear and brief is crucial. B. Think twice before you start to speak. C. Try to understand things from the other person’s perspective. D. Non- verbal communication is being paid more attention to worldwide. E. The desk, which should have been clear for my homework, was always filled with empty milk bottles, old magazines, and Post-it notes. My floor seemed to swallow anything that entered my room. Mom always insisted that I clean my room. I’d respond with a nod, but never actually did it. She ended up having to tidy up herself. But no matter how much she cleaned, I always seemed to turn it into a mess again within days. One weekend afternoon, I was lying in bed, lost in a book while my room was a total mess. Clothes were piled on the chair, snack wrappers littered the floor, and the desk was entirely hidden beneath my school books. I was comfortably immersed in (沉浸在) my chaos — until the phone rang. It was my best friend Felix. “Hey! How about playing chess together?” “Good idea! Just come over!” I replied, picturing us laughing and enjoying each other’s company. However, as soon as I hung up the phone, reality hit me like a ton of bricks: my room was an absolute disaster! I didn’t want my friend to see my room like this. My mind raced — should I call Felix back and tell him I am too busy? Wouldn’t it be better to spare him from the horror of stepping into my disaster zone? But I felt so guilty at the thought of lying to my best friend just because it looked as if a tornado had hit my room. I decided to tidy up my room. With only half an hour before Felix arrived, I felt the pressure increasing. I thought about asking someone for help, so I stepped out of my room. I found my brother playing video games and my dad working. Only Mom seemed to have a moment to spare. When I approached her with my request, she turned me down. “You can handle it on your own. Just learn to be independent,” she said gently. I knew there was no way out this time. ______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Just as I finished cleaning, I heard a knock on the door. ______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $Welcome back, everyone. His sights are already set on helping others in his community with his touching acts of kindness. Inspired by an Internet-based group calling itself “Hit the Ambulance Gamers” which highlights random acts of kindness or “hits”, he creates and hands out goody bags to ambulance crews in the West Midlands, the UK, to bring joy to the hard-working paramedics Much more than just treats, they are a reminder that compassion can have a deep impact on others. 25. A 26. C 27. B 28. It is a common mental disorder in children. Its symptoms include difficulty in focusing, inappropriate hyperactivity (多动) and a tendency to act impulsively.(也许这个善良孩子的无私行为更值得赞扬,因为他患有多动症。 根据最后一段“The ‘Hit the Ambulance Gamers’ group encourages members to share gestures such as waves with ambulance crews, but this caring boy is praised for going above and beyond with his goody bags.(“Hit the Ambulance Gamers”组织鼓励成员向救护人员挥手致意等简单善举,但这个贴心男孩因送爱心包而超越了这一概念,获得赞扬。)” More time spent sitting, reclining or lying down during the day may increase the risk of cardiovascular (心血管的) disease (CVD) and death, according to a study in the Journal of the American College of Cardiology. Among the 89530 study participants of the UK Biobank, participants submitted data from a wrist-worn triaxial accelerometer that captured movement over seven days. Sedentary Lifestyles Threaten Heart Health Despite Exercise 【答案】29. C 30. B 31. A 32. 根据第一段“More time spent sitting, reclining or lying down during the day may increase the risk of cardiovascular (心血管的) disease (CVD) and death, according to a study in the Journal of the American College of Cardiology. More than roughly 10-and-a-half hours of sedentary (久坐的) behavior per day was significantly linked with future heart failure (HF) and CVD death, even among people meeting recommended levels of exercise. 根据第二段中“Our findings support cutting back on sedentary time to reduce cardiovascular risk, with 10.5 hours a day marking a potentially key threshold tied to higher heart failure and cardiovascular mortality (我们的研究结果表明,减少久坐时间可以降低心血管风险,每天久坐10.5小时是一个可能的关键threshold,与心力衰竭和心血管死亡率升高有关。 根据最后一段中“The findings strongly suggest that we need to get people moving to promote better health. Future guidelines and public health efforts should stress the importance of cutting down on sedentary time. Avoiding more than 10.6 hours per day may be a realistic minimal target for better heart health. 故选A。 通读全文,尤其是由文章第一段“More time spent sitting, reclining or lying down during the day may increase the risk of cardiovascular (心血管的) disease (CVD) and death, according to a study in the Journal of the American College of Cardiology. C. Which volunteer work is suitable for the old. D. What reactions volunteering causes in the body. 36. What does Julia Boehm suggest? A. Providing additional experimental data. B. Expanding the size of the research subjects. C. Performing more experiments on the elderly. D. Making volunteer activities a public priority. D 34. A 35. A 36. 根据第二段“Most of the evidence comes from observational studies of people who volunteer regularly. But there is also experimental evidence. Perhaps the most striking one comes from the Baltimore Experience Corps study, where adults aged 60 and older were randomly assigned to either volunteer at schools or be put on a waiting list. (大多数证据来自对定期志愿者的观察性研究。但也有实验证据。也许最引人注目的一项来自巴尔的摩体验团的研究,在该研究中,60岁及以上的成年人被随机分配到学校做志愿者或被列入候补名单。)”可知,该研究的独特之处在于它基于实验性证据,而多数其他研究是观察性的。故选D。 【34题详解】 细节理解题。根据第三段中“They didn’t experience declines in memory and cognitive (认知的) function like we saw in our control participants. There was even an increase in brain volume in areas of the brain that support cognitive processes, (他们没有像我们在对照组参与者身上看到的那样,记忆力和认知功能下降。甚至在支持认知过程的大脑区域,大脑体积也有所增加,)”可知,志愿者的大脑功能(包括记忆、认知功能和脑容量变化)在研究结束时有明显改变。故选A。 根据第四段“It is likely that multiple processes are at play. For example, stress causes a series of reactions in your body that can drive up blood pressure and other problems, ultimately leading to other poor health outcomes. But volunteering can draw your attention away from the problems that you might be having. Also when you help others, it also makes you less lonely, which is also crucial for your physical health. (很可能有多个过程在起作用。例如,压力会导致你身体的一系列反应,从而推高血压和其他问题,最终导致其他不良的健康结果。但是志愿服务可以把你的注意力从你可能遇到的问题上转移开。此外,当你帮助别人时,也会让你不那么孤独,这对你的身体健康也很重要。)”可知,本段主要讨论志愿服务如何帮助改善健康。故选A。 根据最后一段中“There’s less evidence on the health benefits of helping behaviors when it comes to younger people. Given the findings so far, Boehm says she’d like to see health officials make it a public health priority to study the benefits of volunteering and other acts of kindness to minors. (对于年轻人来说,帮助行为对健康有益的证据较少。鉴于迄今为止的调查结果,Boehm表示,她希望看到卫生官员将研究志愿服务和其他对未成年人的善举的好处作为公共卫生的优先事项。)”以及上文可知,当前研究主要针对中老年人,缺乏针对年轻人的数据,因此她建议扩大研究对象的范围(将未成年人纳入研究)。故选B。 Effective communication is a fundamental skill that plays a crucial role in both personal and professional life. E. Show that you are engaged by maintaining eye contact and providing feedback. F. Similarly, observing others’ non-verbal clues can help you respond more appropriately. G. There are several reasons behind this phenomenon. One of them is that social media provides a convenient platform for students to express themselves and connect with peers. Besides, sharing life online can bring a sense of belonging and recognition, as likes and comments from others can boost self-esteem. Lastly, in today’s fast-paced world, students often seek an outlet to relieve stress, and online sharing serves as such an outlet. From my perspective, sharing online has good points, but we need balance. Too much sharing might cause privacy issues and harm our mental well-being. We should think about what we post and its effect on our lives. So, I suggest sharing carefully online to match our values and aims. So, I suggest sharing carefully online to match our values and aims. So, I suggest we should share carefully online to match our values and aims. 1】In recent years, it has become a common sight to see students sharing their everyday moments on social media platforms, which is particularly popular among high school students.(运用了which引导的非限制性定语从句) 【高分句型2】So, I suggest sharing carefully online to match our values and aims. I liked living in a mess. ______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】One possible version: Paragraph 1: I knew there was no way out this time. So I walked back to my room. The chaos around me weighed heavily on my mind. Each item reminded me of the work I had to do. Time was running out, and I knew I had to get it together and take action. I picked up the clothes from the chair and put them into the laundry basket. Then I threw the snack wrappers into the trash can and piled my schoolwork. I wiped the dust off the desk. It felt good to see some progress. Paragraph 2: Just as I finished cleaning, I heard a knock on the door. It was Felix. After greeting my family, he walked into my room with me. As he stepped inside, he was surprised at how tidy it looked. Embarrassment washed over me as I explained that my room had been a total mess before this clean-up. I finally decided to take charge of the chaos. Felix remarked on how impressive it was to see me managing my space, admiring my newfound independence. A strong feeling of pride welled inside me. 1】Each item reminded me of the work I had to do.(运用了省略关系代词that的定语从句,修饰先行词the work) 【高分句型 2】Embarrassment washed over me as I explained that my room had been a total mess before this clean-up.(运用了as引导的时间状语从句,以及that引导的宾语从句) 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $mrs.
