A.a; / B.the; the C.a; the D.a; a 【答案】D 【详解】句意:——你觉得电影《万里归途》怎么样?——嗯,我从未见过更感人的电影。 D。 2.The music ________ is liked by people all over the world. A.with a strong local color B.with strong local color C.has a strong local color D.has strong local color 【答案】B 【详解】句意:这种音乐因其强烈的地方色彩而受到全世界人们的喜爱。 B。 3.— How are you today ? — I’m feeling even ________ . I don’t think the medicine works . A.better B.worse C.happier D.unhappier 【答案】B 【详解】句意:——今天你怎么样?——我感觉更糟了。 根据“I’m feeling even...I don’t think the medicine works .” B。 4.Danny’s father moved to China _______. Two years later, he _________ Danny’s mother. A.in his thirty; married to B.in his thirty’s; married C.in his thirtieth; married to D.in his thirties; married 【答案】D 【详解】句意:丹尼的父亲在三十多岁时搬到中国。 D。 5.They were playing soccer on the playground ________ the storm came. A.as soon as B.as long as C.when D.while 【答案】C 【详解】句意:暴风雨来临时,他们正在操场上踢足球。 as soon as一……就……;as long as只要;when当…… 根据题干从句 “ the storm came.” C。 6.—Oh, so many people are standing outside the hall.________ will the film start? —________seven o’clock. A.How soon; Not until B.How long; Not until C.How soon; Until D.How long; Until 【答案】A 【详解】句意:——哦,很多人都站在大厅。 A。 7.At last, the girl was made _________ to music and began to do her homework. A.stop listening B.to stop to listen C.to stop listening D.stop to listen 【答案】C 【详解】句意:最后,这个女孩被要求停止听音乐,开始做她的家庭作业。be made to do sth被让做某事,stop to do sth停下来去做另外一件事;stop doing sth停止正在做的事情。根据空前was made可知,句子是被动语态,make用于被动语态时,其用法是be made to do sth,故排除选项A和D,根据空后“to music and began to do her homework”可知,是停止听音乐,然后去做另外一件事,所以用stop doing sth to do sth。故选C。 8.It is well known that Suzhou is famous ________ its silk and Qi Baishi was known ________ an artist in the world. A.as; for B.as; as C.for; as               D.for; for 【答案】C 【详解】句意:众所周知,苏州因它的丝绸而闻名于世,齐白石作为一名画家而出名。 as作为;for因为。be famous for因……而闻名;be famous as作为…… 根据“its silk”可知是因丝绸而闻名,用介词for;根据“an artist”可知是作为画家而出名,应用as。故选C。 9.Time waits for no man. A.controlled B.will be controlled C.are controlled D.are controlling 【答案】C 【详解】句意:——太酷了! C。 12.Mr. Lee will ________ the awards ________ the top three athletes at the sports meeting. A.present, with B.present, to C.be present, with D.be presented , to 【答案】B 【详解】句意:李先生将在运动会上为前三名运动员颁奖。 B。 13.— I am wondering ________. — Whatever the result is, don’t be too hard on yourself. He looked at the gold and silver. “The world is tricked by appearances,” he said. “People often hide ordinary things with beautiful gold, silver, and jewels. People always agree with those who speak well, even if they say foolish things. Many people who seem brave are really cowards. How often do we believe in leaders who turn out to be bad?” Then Bassanio remembered the story of Midas, the man who loved gold too much. He wanted everything to be gold. He wished that he could make everything gold just by touching it. When he could, it was a disaster. He could not eat his golden food, and he was afraid to touch his daughter. “No, I do not want these beautiful boxes of gold and silver. I will choose the lead box with its ordinary color. It speaks more to me than all the gold and silver in the world. Please give me the key to the lead box. Let happiness be mine.” Bassanio said to himself. One of the servants gave him the key, and he went to the box and opened it. Portia was very pleased. She could not believe it, until Bassanio opened the box and saw the picture of Portia inside it. When he saw the picture, he loved her even more because the picture was very beautiful. He wondered how anyone could paint such a good picture of her. It was almost as beautiful as Portia herself. He looked at all the parts of the picture. He looked at the eyes and the hair and the eyes. All of them were perfect. But Portia herself was even more beautiful than her picture. The writing inside the box told him that he had chosen the right box. It said that he should go to Portia and look into her eyes. She would be his wife. Bassanio could not believe it. “Is it really true?” he asked.“Will you really be my wife? I am afraid to believe it until you say so.” 34.What may “cowards” do when they face the difficulties? A.Find out ways to solve them. B.Show fear and give up. C.Ask others for help. D.Hand in the problems to others. 35.Which of the following is TRUE according to the passage? A.There was nothing but a picture in the lead box. B.The servants stopped Bassanio choosing the lead box. C.Bassanio thought the picture was more beautiful than Portia. D.Bassanio was too excited to believe himself after reading the writing. 36.What lesson can we learn from Bassanio’s choice of the lead box? A.The grass is greener on the other side. B.Many hands make light work. C.Don’t judge a book by its cover. D.It never rains but pours. 37.What may be the best title of the passage? Scientists are suggesting that humans manage to contact people’s names with their appearance, and can even guess someone’s name based on how they look. Researchers at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem in Israel collected thousands of photos of people’s faces. They labeled each photo with four names. Then, they asked volunteers to guess which of the four names was correct. The volunteers guessed nearly four names correctly out of ten. It seems that humans are able to recognize (认出) certain characteristics of faces that can give them clues about someone’s name, Reader’s Digest reported. However, this only works when we’re looking at names within our own culture. In addition, the volunteers were not as good at guessing the real names of people who use nicknames more often than their real names. This shows that a person’s appearance is influenced by his name only if they use it often. This kind of face-name matching happens “because of a process of self-fulfilling prophecy (自我实现预言), as we become what other people expect us to become”,Ruth Mayo from the university told science news website Eurek Alert. Earlier studies have shown that gender (性别) and race (种族) stereotypes (刻板印象) can influence a person’s appearance. The researchers believe there are also similar stereotypes about names. For example, people manage to think that men named Bob should have rounder faces because the word itself looks round. People may think that women named Rose are beautiful. They expect them to be delicate and feminine, just like the flower they are named for. 38.What does the passage mainly tell us? A.A person’s appearance can be influenced by three factors. B.There are several ways to guess a stranger’s name. C.People can guess others’ names according to their appearance. D.It’s not polite to ask strangers about their names. 39.Dr Ruth Mayo thinks some people look like their names because of ________. A.their different cultures B.a self-fulfilling prophecy C.racial stereotypes D.their living environment 40.According to the passage, girls named Cherry are expected to ________. A.wear glasses B.have big eyes C.look cute and lovely D.have round faces 41.What do we know from this research? A.Nicknames have a bigger influence on people’s appearance. B.Gender and race have no influence on a person’s appearance. C.The volunteers were able to guess 40% of the names correctly. D.People are good at recognizing the different characteristics of faces. Scientists are suggesting that humans manage to contact people’s names with their appearance, and can even guess someone’s name based on how they look”可知,这篇文章告诉我们人们可以通过外表猜测别人的名字。故选C。 39. This kind of face-name matching happens ‘because of s process of self-fulfilling prophecy (自我实现预言), as we become what other people expect us to become’.” They expect them to be delicate and feminine, just like the flower they are named for.” The volunteers guessed nearly four names correctly out of ten”可知,每10个名字中,志愿者们猜对了近4个,所以有40%的正确率。故选C。 D Children do not laugh for joy. Scientific studies, including my own, show that there is something much deeper than joy in a child’s laughter. I find that it is closely connected to brain and personality development: children laugh for very different reasons at different stages of development. Laughter begins soon after birth. Babies learn to laugh because they want to copy their parents’ expressions, and to receive attention and praise from them. This is the way babies learn everything at first: through copying and receiving attention and praise of adults around them. But as they grow, they learn to tell their own person from their parents and the world around them. Once they begin to behave on their own—from age 2 to 5—they begin to feel something new for the first time: certain things may seem cold, strange, or out of place, and this shocks, confuses and amazes them. This is where laughter comes in: after a moment of hesitation, they understand that what seemed frightening or unexpected is actually harmless. For instance, a child laughs when they see their father with a funny clown nose. Why? Because for a second they felt awkward: that nose is not a “live” nose. When they understand it was just dad’s joke, they calm down and laugh. They may also laugh when their older brother makes a silly face, and the process is the same. From age 5 or 6 and up, children learn to handle abstract (抽象的) ideas, meaning they can grasp and “get” jokes. Before that, they are at the earlier stage of being self-centered, which hinders their understanding of others’ reasoning. But once they overcome it, their laughter process is the same as that of adults. These three stages of laughter development are good indicators of child’s mental growth and development. 42.Why do babies laugh soon after birth? A.They are expressing their happiness. B.They are showing their personality. C.They are learning their parents’ behavior. D.They are giving praise to their parents. 43.What’s the babies’ mental process of laughing from age 2 to 5? A.They feel amazed, understand and laugh. B.They feel harmless, hesitate and laugh. C.They hesitate, feel frightened and laugh. D.They understand, feel shocked and laugh. 44.Why does the author mention the father and the brother in paragraph 4? A.To give examples. B.To provide methods. C.To make comparisons. They played games at the wooded place where the ferry stopped. Then there was the picnic meal, and finally a visit to some nearby caves. It was quite late when they started back towards the town. Huck was already on duty watching the tavern. He heard the door closing softly. Two men walked past him, and one had something under his arm. It must be the box! It was too late to call Tom now, so Huck decided to follow them. They went up Cardiff Hill and down the other side into the dark trees. Then they stopped. Huck heard Indian Joe’s voice just in front of him. ‘Widow Douglas has got guests — there are lights on!’ ‘Let’s go back,’ said the other man. ‘Go back? I’m going to leave this country forever and this is my last chance to get my revenge (报仇) on her. I’m not interested in her money — you can have it. But her husband jailed me many times for being homeless and whipped me in front of the whole town. He’s dead, but I’ll take revenge on her!’ ‘Let’s start now!’ “No, we must wait until the guests have gone and the lights are out.” Huck listened in horror. Then he walked backwards very carefully until he was a good distance from the two men. Then he ran down the hill until he reached the Welshman’s house. He banged (猛敲) on the door. The old man put his head out of the window. “What’s all that noise? What do you want?” ‘Let me in — quickly! I’ll tell you everything!’ The door opened and Huck told his story. Three minutes later the old man and his sons were up the hill walking quietly. After a silence there was a sudden explosion of guns and a cry. A.Bassanio and the lead box B.Portia and her picture C.The things in the boxes D.Tricks by appearances C Have you ever had an experience where you meet someone new, learn his name and think to yourself, “Wow, they really look just like their names!” What does this mean exactly? D Children do not laugh for joy. D.To offer suggestions. 45.What does the underlined word “hinders” in paragraph 5 mean? A.Forms. B.Deepens. C.Explores. D.Prevents. Park is far away from here. You’d better take a bus here. No adults went with the children, just some young teachers. They all met at Judge Thatcher’s house and then they went on the ferry together. Huck ran back down the hill as fast as he could. —Taken from The Adventures of Tom Sawyer 56.What did Becky’s mother prepare for Becky’s picnic? 57.How did Huckleberry help save Widow Douglas from being hurt? 58.Why did Indian Joe want to kill Widow Douglas? 59.If you were Huck, what would you do in that situation? 60.What do you think of Huck?
