I never saw such little feet.” “Oh,” Lavinia, unkindly, “that is the way her slippers (拖鞋) are made. I don’t think she is pretty at all. Her eyes are such a strange color.” “She isn’t pretty as other pretty people are,” said Jessie, looking at the other girls in the room. “But she makes you want to look at her again. She has greatly long eyelashes (睫毛), but her eyes are almost green.” “Young ladies,” Miss Minchin said, “I shall expect you all to be very agreeable to Miss Crewe; she has just come to us from a great distance—in fact, from India. As soon as lessons are over, you can know each other.” “Sara,” said Miss Minchin, “come here to me. My impression is that your father wished you to learn French.” “I, I have never really learned French, but, but,” she began, trying shyly to make herself clear. “That is enough,” Miss Minchin said. “If you have not learned, you must begin at once. The French master, Monsieur Dufarge, will be here in a few minutes.” Monsieur Dufarge arrived. His eyes fell upon Sara. “Is this a new student for me, Madame?” he said to Miss Minchin. “Her father really wants her to begin the language. But I am afraid she isn’t ready for it. She does not seem to wish to learn,” said Miss Minchin. Little Sara rose in her seat. She began to explain quite simply in pretty and smooth French. She had not learned French exactly—not out of books—but her father and other people had always spoken it to her, and she had read it and written it as she had read and written English. When she began to speak, Miss Minchin started quite surprisingly and sat looking at her over her eyeglasses, almost angrily, until she had finished. “Ah, Madame,” Monsieur Dufarge said, “There is not much I can teach her. She has not learned French; she is French. Her pronunciation is pure.” “You should have told me,” exclaimed Miss Minchin, turning to Sara. “I, I tried,” said Sara. “I, I suppose I did not begin right.” Miss Minchin knew she had tried, and that it had been her mistake that she was not allowed to explain, when she saw that Lavinia and Jessie were laughing at their French grammars, she felt very angry. “Silence, young ladies!” she said seriously, knocking upon the desk. “Silence at once!” —Adapted from A Little Princess 31.What made Lavinia have a bad impression on Sara? If we couldn’t have these, we might as well sit in front of the television on a quiet evening. Pleasure is an important part of the quality of life, but by itself it doesn’t bring happiness. When people think further about what makes a worthy life, they tend (倾向于) to move beyond pleasant memories and begin to remember other events, other experiences that overlap (有重叠) pleasurable ones but fall into a group with a separate name: enjoyment. Enjoyable events take place when people have not only satisfied a need or met some earlier expectation, but also achieved something unexpected. Enjoyment is characterized by a sense of curiosity, of achievement. Playing a tennis game that improves one’s ability is enjoyable, as is reading a book that shows things in a new light, as is having a conversation that leads us to express ideas we didn’t know we had. None of these experiences may be especially pleasurable when they are taking place, but when we think back on them afterwards, we would say, “That really was fun” and wish they would happen again. After an enjoyable event we know that we have changed, and grown. Experiences that give pleasure can also give enjoyment, but the two feelings are quite different. For example, everybody takes pleasure in eating. However, to enjoys food is more difficult — you have to pay enough attention to a meal, so as to sense and tell its various tastes. As this example suggests, we can experience pleasure without any psychic energy, while enjoyment happens only as a result of full attention. A person can feel pleasure without any effort, as long as certain parts in his brain are stimulated (刺激). But it’s impossible to enjoy a tennis game or a book without full attention. It’s for this reason that pleasure does not last long, nor does it make us grow. Growth requires full attention to goals that are new, that are relatively challenging. Without enjoyment, life will go on, and it can even be pleasant. But it depends heavily on luck and the external (外部的) environment. To achieve personal control over the quality of experience, however, we need to learn how to build enjoyment into what happens day in, day out. 34.You will most probably experience enjoyment when you ________. A.buy expensive shoes B.order a delicious meal C.talk with friends for new ideas D.sit quietly in front of a television 35.What do you know about pleasure and enjoyment from the passage? A.Enjoyment grows out of pleasure. B.Pleasure and enjoyment come hand in hand. C.Pleasurable experiences are part of enjoyable ones. D.Some experiences provide both pleasure and enjoyment. 36.The words “psychic energy” in Paragraph 4 are closest in meaning to ________. A.attention B.interest C.ability D.knowledge 37.The writer probably agrees that ________. A.feeling pleasure stops people from achieving growth B.feeling enjoyment comes with achieving growth C.a worthy life depends on luck and environment D.pleasure is the key to a happy and worthy life 【答案】34.C 35.D 36.A 37.B 【导语】本文主要讲述了快乐和享受的联系和区别。 34.细节理解题。根据“Enjoyment is characterized by a sense of curiosity, of achievement... as is having a conversation that leads us to express ideas we didn’t know we had.”可知,享受的特点是有好奇心和成就感,其中也包含进行一次能让我们表达出潜藏在内心深处的想法的对话。故选C。 35.细节理解题。根据“Experiences that give pleasure can also give enjoyment...”可知,给人快乐的经历也可以给人享受。故选D。 36.词句猜测题。根据“... while enjoyment happens only as a result of full attention.”可知,while在句中表转折,只有全神贯注才能获得享受。可以推测,前半句意为我们不需要集中任何注意力,就能体验到快乐。划线词组的含义与“attention”相近。故选A。 37.推理判断题。根据“It’s for this reason that pleasure does not last long, nor does it make us grow. Growth requires full attention to goals that are new, that are relatively challenging.”可知,正是因为这个原因,快乐不会持续很久,也不会让我们成长。成长需要充分关注新的、相对具有挑战性的目标。结合“while enjoyment happens only as a result of full attention”可知,只有全神贯注才能获得享受。 38.Simon, do you know which bird stands for (和平)? 【答案】peace 【详解】句意:西蒙,你知道哪只鸟代表和平吗?“和平”peace,不可数名词,故填peace。 39.Take it easy. A.feeling pleasure stops people from achieving growth B.feeling enjoyment comes with achieving growth C.a worthy life depends on luck and environment D.pleasure is the key to a happy and worthy life 第Ⅱ卷(主观题 共50分) 四、词汇运用(本大题共10小题,每小题1分,共10分) (A)根据句意和汉语注释,在答题卡对应题号的横线上,写出单词的正确形式。 38.Simon, do you know which bird stands for (和平)? 39.Take it easy.
