It also lifts everyone’s spirits. Imagine that you make cakes for the office and it makes others do it each month. Then you’re getting cakes a lot more days than providing them.

Teenagers often experience ups and downs in emotions. Sometimes negative (消极的) emotions from present schoolwork and worries about future are with us.
26 They even influence a person’s confidence greatly and make it hard to realize dreams. For example, people who think“I can’t do this” or “I doubt my skills” may fail to finish their tasks. This is one reason why it’s important to know some negative emotions and find ways that change them for the better.
27 . Sometimes they can be so sudden and powerful that it’s hard to know exactly what you’re experiencing. The best way is to stop for a short time and think for a moment when you notice yourself feeling unhappy. Try to name what emotion it is and say to yourself, “I feel angry, sad, or worried.” 28
If you’re unhappy but aren’t quite sure why, it can help to talk to someone you trust, like a close friend or family members who can keep a secret. 29
If you have much difficulty talking about your feelings or you think people cannot understand you, keep a diary, draw or paint, or do something else that helps you get through hard times. 30 If you spend time finding out more about your feelings, you will become skilled at solving the emotional problems as they come up.

根据“for about 3,700 years”可知,此处用现在完成时,结构为“have/has done”,主语it为第三人称单数,所以助动词用has,be的过去分词为been。故填has been。
根据“made”和“silk or cotton”可知,此处用“be made of”表示“由……制成”,固定搭配,所以此处用of。故填of。
根据“is”和“more and more popular”可知,此处用现在进行时表示正在进行的动作,结构为“be doing”,get的现在分词为getting。故填getting。
故填us。
根据“more and more popular”中的more和语境可知,此处用比较级表示“更多”,much的比较级为more。故填more。
故填a。
根据“how can we talk about other important parts of our culture?” 故填if。
Judy often helped out at her dad’s restaurant, but today felt different-she needed to serve customers. Excited, yet nervous, she carefully carried a pork steak (猪排) to Table 6. Her excitement quickly turned to anxiety (焦虑) when she saw Kassy, a popular girl from school, sitting there with her friends. Feeling shy and afraid, Judy ducked (弯下身) behind the front desk to avoid being seen.
Though an excellent student, Judy often felt out of place among her rich classmates. She remembered how Kassy used to laugh at her and worried that others might do the same to her for working at a restaurant. When Judy’s dad found her hiding, she didn’t know what to say. He suggested that she should take a break.
Turning back to the kitchen, Judy felt bad for letting her dad down. To her surprise, Mary, one of Kassy’s friends, came over and said that she knew how mean (刻薄的) Kassy could be. She also praised Judy for her hard work. This gave Judy the strength she needed.
With confidence, Judy returned to the dining area and brought the bill to Kassy’s table. When Kassy tried to make fun of her, Judy and Mary did a silly “crab dance” and laughed together. As she crossed the dining room, Judy realized she didn’t feel embarrassed (尴尬的). Whether Kassy liked her family’s restaurant or not, it didn’t matter.
As Judy returned to the front desk, she felt a warm sense of pride, knowing the restaurant was special to her, no matter what others thought. She understood that hard work and kindness were what really mattered. From then on, she started to enjoy her new role with confidence and pride.
54.How did Judy feel when she saw her classmates at Table 6?
55.What made Judy become confident?
56.What did Judy learn from this experience? What did she do from then on?
54.She felt shy and afraid. 55.Mary came over and said Kassy was mean. She also praised Judy for her hard work. 56.She understood that hard work and kindness were what really mattered. She started to enjoy serving customers with confidence and pride.
54.根据“Feeling shy and afraid, Judy ducked (弯下身) behind the front desk to avoid being seen.” She felt shy and afraid.
55.根据“Mary, one of Kassy’s friends, came over and said that she knew how mean (刻薄的) Kassy could be. She also praised Judy for her hard work. This gave Judy the strength she needed.” Mary came over and said Kassy was mean. She also praised Judy for her hard work.
56.根据“She understood that hard work and kindness were what really mattered. From then on, she started to enjoy her new role with confidence and pride.” She understood that hard work and kindness were what really mattered. She started to enjoy serving customers with confidence and pride.

①Everybody enjoys acts of kindness. But can you explain why? Some people think kindness is something out of love and care, while others believe it is just a tool that we use to become more popular. But research shows that being kind can activate (激活) an area of the brain called Striatum. Research also shows that kindness improves people’s mood (情绪). But why and how does it happen? Here are a number of different ways.
②Being kind can make someone smile. If you see yourself smile in a situation, people around may be smiling, too. This is specially true for your close friends and family. A kind act makes someone who is sad feel better. It can also make ourselves feel good. So why not set off that chain (链条) of good feelings to people around?
③Secondly, being kind starts or develops a social connection with others. Kind acts like buying someone a present make friendships stronger. Research has shown that spending money on others may help you get a stronger feeling of happiness than spending it on yourself. Similarly, charities (慈善) also open up new circles of people to connect with someone on the other side of the world.
④In another recent research, even children in their first year of secondary school know how being kind makes them feel happy. If one person is kind, he or she makes others in the group kind. It also lifts everyone’s spirits. Imagine that you make cakes for the office and it makes others do it each month. Then you’re getting cakes a lot more days than providing them.
⑤All in all, being kind may improve your mood, but research has also shown that if you’re in a good mood, you can act much more kindly. This makes it a wonderful two-way relationship, doesn’t it?

26 They even influence a person’s confidence greatly and make it hard to realize dreams. For example, people who think“I can’t do this” or “I doubt my skills” may fail to finish their tasks.
