Someone lends you his car while there’s something wrong with yours. You are sick, and a friend brings you a meal and cares for you. How do you show your gratitude(感谢) ? Sometimes simply saying thank you is enough. At other times, it is thoughtful to say thank you in a more different way. Be sure to tell that person what you are grateful for and why you are grateful. Here are some common ways to say thank you. You can write a thank-you note. People are very busy these days. A handwritten note shows you took the time to tell someone you are grateful to him or her. Or you can call and thank the person. You would be surprised how this can make someone’s day. Another idea is to send a thank-you e-mail. This is not quite as personal, but it still shows your gratitude. There are many other ways to say thank you. To say thank you in a creative way, you can: ★ Select some flowers from a shop. Write a thank-you note. ★ Give the person a basket of fresh fruit or a homemade treat. ★ Invite a friend to a movie, meal, snack or coffee. ★ Give a gift card for a bookstore or a restaurant. That way the person can pick out a favourite book or eat out. ★ Find out what the person likes and give something related to that. ★ To say a big thank you to someone, have a party for that person. As you can see, there are many ways to say thank you. Think of some ways of your own. You will feel good trying one of the ideas, and the person being thanked will feel good too. Is all winning success (成功)? Winning is really, really fun. But I am here to share my idea: Winning does not always mean success. All around the world, most people hope to win. We cheer for winners. We have become so focused (关注) on that end result (结果) instead of the process (过程), and when it is a win, we usually didn’t care how we got there. We need to redefine (重新定义) success. Real success is developing winners in life for our world, win or lose. We may be able to plan our way to a win, but we can't plan our way to success. Back to 1990, when I was first made the head coach of the UCLA Women’s Gymnastics Team, the best I could do was what other “successful” coaches had done. So, I became tough-talking and mean. I acted like a head coach whose only thought was to try best to win. After putting up with me for a few years, our team asked me for a team meeting. And for over two hours, they gave me examples of how my arrogance (傲慢) was hurtful. That was my time-out, and I chose to change. I found out that I needed to support our student players as whole persons, not just players who won. It is so much easier to give orders than to encourage someone to be better. And it takes a really long time to change. The key was to develop trust through patience and honesty. Let’s think about what you are talking with your parents on the car ride home. Are they focusing on the end result? Are you excited to use that time to show you are a winner? All of you care too much about the end result instead of your steps of learning. We are all coaches in some ways. We all have the duty to develop winners in life for our world. That is what real success looks like, and that is what we call a win-win. 18.The writer introduced the topic by ______. A.asking a question B.showing some examples C.listing a few numbers D.comparing two different things 19.The underlined word “it” in the Paragraph 2 refers to (指代) ________. A.the process B.the end result C.the winner D.the real success 20.According to the writer, which of the following is a real success in life? A.A kid who shows the medals and prizes he won to his parents. B.A player who tries to win a gold medal at the cost of his health. C.A coach who supports his members though the team didn’t win. D.A parent who keeps asking about the grades his kid gets in the exams. 21.The structure of the passage is ________. A. B. C. D. 【答案】18.A 19.B 20.C 21.C 【导语】本文是一篇议论文。文章主要讲述了人们太专注取得胜利的结果而不是过程,作者讲述自己做教练的经历,认为激励人更重要。 18.细节理解题。根据第一段“I have a question for all of us. Is all winning success”可知,作者通过提出一个问题来引入主题。故选A。 19.词义猜测题。根据“We have become so focused (关注) on that end result (结果) instead of the process (过程), and when it is a win, we usually didn’t care how we got there.”可知,it指代的是end result“最后的结果”。故选B。 20.推理判断题。根据“I found out that I needed to support our student players as whole persons, not just players who won.” C。 D Jan lies in bed, looking at the photos on her phone. A sudden flash (闪光) of lightning illuminates (照射) the scene (场景) followed by a loud crash of thunder. Jan looks around and sees her house. A.Things To Be Grateful For B.Different Situations To Say Thank You C.Ways To Show Your Gratitude D.Reasons For Saying Thank You C I have a question for all of us. A. B. C. D. D Jan lies in bed, looking at the photos on her phone.
