An unforgettable activity
Last term, our class prepared an English drama for the school art festival. We chose The Lion King and divided roles: some acted, others made costumes, and a few painted the background. I helped practice lines with my friends. At first, we forgot our words and laughed too much, but we encouraged each other.
On the performance day, we worked together perfectly. When someone missed a line, another whispered the words. The audience clapped loudly! We won the best teamwork award.
This taught me that teamwork is like a puzzle—every piece matters. If we trust and help each other, even mistakes can turn into something wonderful!

Tug-of-war (拔河) is popular in China and many other countries all over the world. However, Tug-of-war in other countries is different from China’s. There are 8 members in each of their team, while our two teams have the same number of men or women members. The members are usually strong and heavy.
In the match, we need a long thick rope (绳子). Each team stands at one end of the rope and holds it. Then they try to pull the rope to their side. If a team pulls the center of the rope away for a certain distance, the team will win.
Many experts (专家) think members in the tug-of-war team don’t need to be strong and heavy. We don’t have endless (无尽的) energy for the match. The secret is good hands. If the players have big and strong hands, they will hold the rope better. The experts say the farmers have the best hands for tug-of-war. Because farmers have to work very hard and farming is a good practice for tug-of-war.

Choose the best answer and complete the passage (选择最恰当的选项完成短文)
We all enjoy being part of a group. There’s no better work than teamwork, right? Actually, I 34 . Teamwork can be hard. In fact, it was so difficult that I left my office job and started working from home on my own. It’s a much better fit for me, and it has made me think about why teamwork can make our jobs harder rather than easier.
Personalities (个性) can make teamwork 35 . There’s often someone on the team that puts their needs first. The team often goes along with this person, whose 36 might not be the best, just the loudest. Just one difficult personality can make teamwork hard. Combine (结合) several challenging personality types, and it’s even harder.
Not having enough time together can also make teamwork challenging. For example, I was once on a team where we never had enough time to meet as a group. To 37 work as a team, you need time together, and lots of it.
A final reason why teamwork is difficult is that there’s often no training on how to work on a team. You can’t just put people in a room and expect them to work well with each other. You need to build trust with your team members. Think of football players: They aren’t just given a ball and told to play. They practice, and they train.
Team can be hard, but working alone has its challenges, too. When my computer doesn’t work, I don’t have an IT person to turn to. When I have a great idea, I don’t have anyone to 38 it with to see if it really is a great idea. Don’t get me wrong — I still like my team of one and enjoy making all of the important decisions myself. But now I realise what was wrong with the teamwork I did in the past and 39 good teamwork could be if done correctly. And that’s useful information because one day I might want to turn my ME TEAM into a WE TEAM.
34.A.wonder B.disagree C.support D.conclude
35.A.easy B.touching C.difficult D.perfect
36.A.conditions B.complaints C.understanding D.ideas
37.A.carefully B.successfully C.extremely D.severely
38.A.share B.cooperate C.spread D.inform
39.A.when B.who C.how D.while

The game of throwing mangoes for fun has led to a new sport
芒果球在巴西成为一项体育运动
Children in Brazil often throw mangoes at each other as a fun game. Now the game has become a real sport that’s popular across the country: manbol. Its name comes from the words mango and ball.
In the game, each player throws a mango-shaped ball over a net (网) in a fast, fun way at the same time. You win a point (分) by throwing the ball over the net–as long as (只要) you also catch the other ball when your rival (对手) throws it to your side. If both balls fall, you have to start all over again.
A mango-shaped ball is about three times smaller than a rugby ball (橄榄球). People can play the game on a rectangular court (矩形球场) anywhere.
Rui Hildebrando, 44, started the sport. “At first, it was a simple game between us: My brother Rogerio would throw a mango at me and I would throw it back. But after a while, I thought it would be more fun to each throw a mango at the same time,” Hildebrando told AFP.
After his game became popular, Hildebrando made the official (正式的) rules. Now, there are about 2,000 players across the country. It has also gone to 11 other countries.
