Have you ever thought about reducing plastic waste in the ocean? Here’s my experience.
It all started five years ago when I was 11 years old. I watched a TV show about plastic pollution in the ocean. I was shocked by the tons of plastic waste such as bottles and fishing tools(工具) on the program. That was how I got the idea of making a smart ship for cleaning the ocean. In the beginning, I made a model ship named Ervis. It was far from perfect, but that was an important first step.

Soon, the TED-Ed program invited me to share my idea. It gave me a great chance to express my dream of a better earth. After the talk, I did a lot of research and worked with experts to design a better ship. The ship can collect plastic waste while cleaning the ocean. It is large, with saucers(碟状物) around it. These saucers move in circles on the water to pull the waste toward the centre of the ship and then the ship “eats” it.
However, building the ship wasn’t my only effort to protect the planet. Together with my team, I founded an organisation called the Ervis Foundation. It has three parts: “Hero” “Hub” and “Hygiene”. “Hero” focuses on encouraging future ocean protectors. “Hub” is our digital platform(数字平台) for selling zero-waste(零废弃) products. “Hygiene” collects creative ideas of fighting plastic waste, like Ervis itself.
